The company has established a reputation as a valuable resource for freelancers in the media production industry, with many users appreciating the variety of job opportunities and the user-friendly platform. However, there are significant concerns regarding the effectiveness of job placements, as several customers report difficulties in securing paid work despite numerous applications. Additionally, issues with customer service, particularly in terms of accessibility and responsiveness, have been highlighted as major drawbacks. Overall, while the platform offers potential for networking and job discovery, the lack of support and inconsistent job outcomes detract from the user experience.

You get free membership for 30 days; I wanted to pay for the Premium membership, only to find it one is restricted to 1 skill genre, e.g. acting. So, if you're an actor, who also wants to get voice-over work, then you have to pay £130. Plus VAT for the acting, AND £107. Plus VAT for the voice-over part. There is no way to 'bundle' both, and they don't have any way offers to enable one to do this. It's completely un-acceptable that in the 'free' 30 days one can apply for any job genre, like singing or acting, giving the impression that is what the full membership will entail. Its mis-representation, misleading, and I will be contacting Trading Standards. Utterly unacceptable. Don't go anywhere near them.
If I could give this site zero stars I would. I am extremely disappointed with Mandy's service. They send out few listings and the jobs are either miles away or very shady. For the fee they are charging I can safely say this has been a scam. I'm also shocked that this site was recommended to me by an employment agency.
In the two years or so that I've had a Mandy/Film & TV Pro profile, I've had three jobs, none of which were paid well or professional. Too many jobs being posted by amateurs who are demanding expertise, years of experience and loads of very expensive equipment that barely meets minimum wage at the hourly rate, then they want you to do extra work outside of the daily rate which ends up breaking the law.
If you want a platform that doesn't rip you off and only deals with professionals, use Production Base.
It went from completely free, to 5 free per month unless you buy a premium membership, now it looks like you can't apply at all unless you pay. What is worse is that with my premium membership which recently expired, for many postings you were redirected to the employer's site to apply rather than using the quick and easy method within Mandy. So it is just not worth it anymore. I have been keeping a spreadsheet of the NYC production companies that have been posting over the years, so I will just start bugging them on my own as I see fit. I find it interesting how often some companies seem to re-post the same job. Are they hiring the wrong people, or are they a toxic environment? Also, I had much more luck years ago when I was YOUNGER and LESS EXPERIENCED and there were infinitely fewer production venues - get the picture?
They send out dozens of so called job listings but not a single person responds when you apply. When I looked at the traffic counter in a 2 month period and 12 people had viewed my profile. I have a feeling that 9 of those visits were from myself looking at the damn profile.
They send out jobs that have nothing to do with what I actually do.
I think they are taking advantage of people that are struggling to find work and every single person I have spoken to about Mandy.com have said it was a scam and a total waste of money.
I wish I had have found the reviews before signing up for a year.
Please don't give them your money!
Mandy must be avoided if you are a professional
Both jobs that I found through the site have ended up with major difficulties due to the unprofessionalism of the client.
Play time only- avoid if you are earning a living from your work
Hi Joe,
I'm sorry to hear you had such an experience. I would be very grateful if you could get in touch with us at [email protected], with a little more information. Once we find this individual, we will be able to offer support to you and investigate whether the client's access to the platform should be limited, for the benefit of our other members.
Best wishes,
Amelia
Think it's a scam. Why would a company only choose to have their listings with Mandy which is a paid service and means that very few crew members will sign up for. Companies want to have access to as many people as possible. They can easily advertise on Craigslist, Indeed, which doesn't charge people to view submissions. Meaning they will get a lot more candidates than Mandy. The listings also seem fake. No one I know has every gotten a job from paying the subscription. I have tons of experience and have never received even an interview request. Ever. There's no way to even know the company's name that's advertising or if it even exists (it doesn't) because they don't give out the company's name. Legitimate companies advertise the name of their company because they want to get the best candidates.
Hi Jess,
Thanks for your feedback, and sorry to hear you feel that way.
We work hard to build relationships with employers, in order to offer our candidates a more tailored jobseeking experience.
In response to your questions...
Once you are on a premium plan, you will be able to see the employers' names.
There are many reasons why employers chose to list with us - but principally, as ours is a professional community, we offer a greater quality of applicant than open platforms such as Craigslist.
Please contact us at [email protected] if you require further support.
Best wishes,
Amelia
The only job inquires I have received from this site have been from fakes. Luckily if you do research, it's easy to tell since they relay obvious discrepancies from the websites of the companies they are pretending to be. (For example the website will say the company is based in London when the person contacting me is caliming they are based in the us) It truely bothers me that Mandy Crews is handing out my personal information to people who most likley have ill intent. I hate to find out what happens to those who don't do research ahead of time. I have attempted to have them remove my profile from the website on multiple occasions but have been ignored. I also dislike the idea of having to pay to apply to a job, definitely scammy. I haven't spent any money but after my experience as a regular member I refuse to.
Hi Margaret, I'm sorry you feel this way.
My colleague Kiana emailed you on the 21st - but my colleague Rob will get in touch today to help you with your concerns.
Kind regards,
Amelia
I started using Mandy 10 years ago, back then it was a useful site to find short-term production jobs.
About 3 years ago it went downhill fast. Users had to pay £30/month or £200(?) a year just to read job descriptions and apply, this should be illegal but they used a loophole in some 'advertising' law. Insulting.
Since then they've managed to make things worse, people now have to pay for the £200+VAT yearly subscription.
This is absolutely ridiculous, I'd understand if I had to pay a couple of quid to apply for a job (although still wouldn't be too happy about it) but £200?!
People need to stop giving them money so they can either disappear for good or rethink their business model.
Like most businesses, it was better when it was good ol' Mandy before they got bought out buy a bigger, more evil fish!
Hi Keith,
I'm sorry to hear you feel this way, but I'm not familiar with the payment plan you are talking about. We have never charged £200+VAT to apply to jobs - that package is for our commercial service providers. Could you drop us an email at [email protected] so we can look into this?
Kind regards,
Amelia
If you want to browse low/no paying gigs do it on craigslist for free. This site is a complete scam and waste of money. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A PAID SUBSCRIPTION.
I'm a successful industry professional that's been using Mandy for 10 years. The new site is so disappointing. Mandy is allowing numerous Shoe String Budget and Amateur Project Postings with SUPER LOW DAY RATES to be listed in the Standard JOBS section, instead of forcing them onto the LO/NO PAY Opportunities board. This is highly unprofessional of Mandy and will gradually crush the already stagnant day rates of experienced production professionals. Please, Mandy, just enforce Low Rate/No Pay postings and ensure they stay within the correct lo/no pay "Opportunities" section, not on the "Jobs" board! Ex: $14/hr for Experienced Editor and $125/day for DP w/Camera are not standard industry rates for pros! Those are intern rates. I don't mind paying for highly professional industry sites, but allowing amateur/shoe string project postings in the Experienced/JOBS is inexcusable. In addition, Mandy now forces applicants to submit their Mandy profile as their "resume," when applying, instead of the option to only send a PDF resume and PDF cover letter. Experienced pros have too many credits to use a simple profile as a resume. Ugh! If these Low Rate and Resume Issues continue, many long term Mandy users will drop the membership and $15/mo dues, and move permanently to more professional job sites.
Don't do it. I did for 5 months and after sending out over 200 applications I only got 3 replies. None of them had money, and they were not professionals.
I've been in the biz for over 40 years. I've never seen a scam like this before.
Took my profile from a company they bought out, have made it difficult to remove that profile - quite distressing to see incorrect data about me taken from 2013, along with my old private address and telephone number - that the original Voiceover Company they took the profile from did not publish.
Have to pay to apply to jobs, crazy they are only loosing customers/candidates for the people paying to post the jobs. If you pay to post a job you expect to have the widest array of candidates available. Well not here you only get the people who are paying to subscribe to the job board. Very bad business practice makes no scenes other then to try to collect as much money as possible before there site looses all the customers. DOOMED TO FAIL...
I joined Mandy/Film & TV pro once i became a pro Make up artist. After paying £120.00 a year for a paid membership. I never got offered any jobs posted on the site. I wasted £120.00 of my own money on this garbage site. They only have very few jobs advertised for make up artist. Even though they claim your application gets to the top as you have a premium membership.ABSOLUTE LIES !
I just think Film & TV pro is a travesty.
Bring back MANDY which was free to apply for jobs.
I've been working in the film industry for about 15 years now. When I was starting out Mandy.com used to be a really great free resource to find work. My first few jobs came from there and they were high-level festival-quality films, with professional crews. Now, I feel like all of these job listing sites: Mandy, Media-Match, Findfilmwork.com (Below The Line Magazine) are just making money off of the vast amount of people in the industry looking for work. I tried Mandy for two years and was never contacted for any job I applied for except one time. I got one interview for a production that said they were in talks with Netflix, only to find that it was two girls who very recently graduated from film school, had no experience, and no meeting with Netflix. I also never received callbacks from any production on Below The Line Listings, what's worse is that even after I canceled they kept charging me and I had to work with my bank for 6 months straight to get these guys to stop. I think these sites just turned into money-makers, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of listings are false, they put out just enough to keep people interested. The only thing that would keep me interested is seeing results. The sad truth is that not many films are filming in LA anymore, most are going to other states or Canada. The best thing is to contact your states film commission to see whats in production, it's free.
Applied for plenty of jobs on Mandy. Some are ok, but a lot of listings are no pay, expenses only that kind thing. New site not bad though, big improvement
Hi Juan, thanks for your feedback. I'm delighted to hear you appreciate the improvements – it sure has been a busy year so far!
While we do list low pay or profit share vacancies under our 'Opportunities' section, we are very strict about what we post. You can find our full policy here – https://actors.mandy.com/uk/policy/opportunities-policy – but our main point is that opportunities should be genuine chances for our members to advance their careers. With both our Jobs and Opportunites boards in mind, we work closely with local unions and associations to drive positive change in our industry and improve the jobs that we list.
I appreciate that not everybody wants to hear about expenses-only work, so it's easy to switch these notifications off in your mail settings. You shouldn't see an expenses-only / sub-minimum wage listing on our jobs board.
Thanks once again!
Amelia
I bet a mandy.com robot will come in after my review here and say some bs about how great it is now, but we all know the truth, it's nothing anymore and nobody cares.
Mandy.com is a disgrace to the industry. I am in communication with authorities that are willing to shut these criminals down. Blue Compass, the company that owns Mandy, is a terribly unprofessional, sloppy and dishonest company.
Hi Johnny C.,
At Mandy, we work hard to ensure the jobs on our board are compliant with all legislation, and we work closely with organisations, unions and NGOs to work toward the most progressive guidelines. We adhere strictly to the Data Protection Act (England and Wales; 1998) and strive to maintain a platform that provides a professionally enriching experience for all of its users. A lot of care and conversation goes into the work that we do, and I find it personally disheartening that you have been left with a different impression. With this in mind, I would be grateful if you could contact me at [email protected] to explain your concerns and help us to sculpt a resolution.
Kind regards,
Amelia
I regularly apply for jobs via this site and get a high number of auditions as a result. I've used their headshot directory and agents database in the past.
I've never paid for premium membership, but do like what I get for free.
Thanks so much for the thumbs up, Chris! Here's to many more auditions. Cheers! Amelia
Answer: Hi Alicia, That's Great! If you are based in the UK we have a Mandy Kids UK site available for anyone under the age of 18. We offer a 30 day free trial for this site so you can sign up for free and try it out! If you need any help signing up, get in touch with us at [email protected]
Answer: Hi Chloe, Apologies for the delay in reply. You can indeed! Your membership will simply revert to a Standard membership which does not block employers from contacting you, nor does it affect existing applications. Please contact us at [email protected] if we can support you with anything else. Kind Regards, Roz - Mandy Customer Service Lead
Answer: I paid the subscription fee for a year, mainly so I can get speaking parts on any kind of production. I don't even care if they're mostly student productions, as I get film footage from them, which is very usable. However, if you're thinking of paying the subscription fee to get paid work, I would advise against it. You will not get much paid work through Mandy. If you want paid work, you're better off getting an office job that will pay far more than the NMW that's offered by most productions. I can't wait to get my necessary named speaking roles so I can join Spotlight!
Answer: Hi Paula, Thank you for taking the time to contact us. The Mandy Network is a platform where you can connect to other professionals in the industry to advance your career. As we are not a direct casting director or agency, we do not select who is successful for any role posted with us. We do indeed have a large number of users in both the US and the UK, but we do have our international region for members from all over the world! I hope this helps. Please do reach out to us at [email protected] if we can support you with anything else.
Answer: Hi Julia, Thanks for getting in touch. There are 2 sorts of Job-related emails we will send you. Our Daily/Weekly Opportunities round ups are not tailored to your profile, however, you can turn these off or change their frequency via your Profile settings. Your Job Alert emails, on the other hand, are tailored to your profile and are sent out as soon as the job is posted. If you are looking to better tailor your Job Alerts, please go to your 'About me/Skills' section and update the 'Interested in' and 'Experienced in' section so that we have the information necessary to send you the best jobs for you. If we can help further, please reach out to us via [email protected].
Answer: Hello Gary, thank you for your question. It is free to post a job with us, though we have premium options available for recruiters wishing to give their job post a little boost. If you would like to find out more please contact [email protected]
Answer: In other words no. It is NOT free for employers? They charge both employers and crew but guarantee nothing to the person's looking for work.
Answer: Hi Anna, thanks for your question, we'll be happy to help. Please refer to the status indicator when looking at Jobs > Applications, as this will give further information as to whether an application has been viewed or shortlisted. If you see the status is "Viewed", this means the employer has reviewed your application. If you have any further questions please get in touch at [email protected].
Answer: Hello Maria, Thank you for your question. We do indeed post a number of roles in your field, the best profile type to create is a Theatre Professionals profile! If you need help getting set up please contact us at [email protected]
