Today I had (2) 12ft. High commercial quality Xmas trees returned to me. These trees are HEAVY. Having them picked up and stored with Make Space gave me the opportunity to clean out my garage. Quarantine gave me the time. The trees were delivered this morning. The movers, Lonnie and Richard T., were on time, friendly, polite and placed the trees in my garage. This job was hard because the trees were soooo tall and heavy, but these guys finished the job quickly. If I have need for this service again, I would request LONNIE & RICHARD T. Again. Thanks!
Absolutely despicable how they treat their Black and brown customers. There have been NUMEROUS complaints about late arrivals, no contact, and being careless/reckless when moving items. They get items dirty, throw items into a space with no thought, and they're completely dismissive and refuse to take accountability for their actions! One of the white movers, who has been fired, said the n word to a Black customer. And customer service proceeded to be completely rude and refused to assist this customer! Broken items, damaged items, dirty items - think of a problem and i'm sure the a customer has dealt with each one with this company! This company does not truly care about their customers, otherwise the problems customers have continuously been facing would be solved. But instead they continue to bring problems. Gross service overall. Ew. Find another service.
The team that shows up at your house are great (you think)! They shrink wrap and act all concerned about your items. They ask you for a YELP review before they leave. The app requests you to tip them as soon as they leave-$20/person at least. Then... they mishandle your belongings! This has been a NIGHTMARE! An iron floor lamp was so badly bent up if I ever wish to use it I will have to take it to a welder. All of my furniture was damaged. Floor mirrors-broken! Wall pictures-destroyed! Leather chairs scraped against concrete! It's like they my items were in a dump truck and they just dumped it in their warehouse and swept it to the end. BEWARE! DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! They are not even movers! They are a warehouse who has lost their primary business and are trying to use their buildings for something to make money taking advantage of trusting people who believe the reviews they solicit at your house-not after the transaction. Don't even get me started on the lies they tell you about their pricing and charges for picking up! STEER CLEAR! I chose these idiots as I have a back injury and limited funds. I would have been better off giving my items away!
If you want a good storage company, better look elsewhere. At first you think it's convenient and cost affective but what you get is a company that loses some of your things and damages your items. I have never experienced such frustration, disappointment, and anger dealing with this company. They have no regard for your personal items, and their delivery people are young, inexperienced, and irresponsible. I would rather pay a more expensive storage company that's actually competent, and the final thing is they don't have a way for you to access your storage unit. They have a holding facility where they keep your things, but it's not like your standard storage unit where you have a key and can access it at any time. DO NOT do business with these people, if you value your personal items.
I've used this company three times and the third time is not the charm.
They moved me out of storage on April 26,2020 with slow and inexperienced movers. They completely damaged a vintage china cabinet owned by my parents which I had refurbished and was in mint condition as well as a lost item and two other damaged pieces of furniture.
Whatever your insurance policy coverage amount is is what Make Space will cover regardless of how extensive the damage due to their negligence. My cabinet repair cost is $2410. My coverage is only $1000. Who knew that I needed to buy a lot of coverage because I had trusted them from prior moves.
They have asked me to sign a release form in order to get the $1000 thus releasing them from any further liability. Way to go in protecting their customers.
Make Space does not care about you or their reputation. This is a rip off company with no pride in what they do.
We needed to store all our household items for a year while we remodeled. We had a long conversation with the MakeSpace sales person to determine if they could truly pick up and safely store a household worth of furniture as they were new to our area. We should have known when they got here. The day of the movers showed up late with three people and a full moving van. They weren't told it was a whole house. It took them some 7 hours, multiple trips and several different crews to pick up our items. A few days later and we had the first call about damaged items. Broken glass table top.
Fast forward 1 year, time to deliver all our stuff. They again show up late. They take another 5+ hours to put the stuff in the front room. They take 3 items upstairs and the walls are dinged, gouged and scratched. More broken glass, this time an entire shelf system. Fabric on the sofa is torn. Plastic totes and boxes are smashed or cracked.
And the icing on the cake, their free totes that they encourage you to use, must be unpacked at the time of delivery otherwise there is another fee to come pick them up.
If I could give them a lower rating I would. Their customer service spouted policy and rules as to why none of this is their fault and they can't do anything about.
Please go anywhere else.
Buyer beware--false advertising and scam service-- just go with a higher priced alternative before going with them and being charged a higher price anyway.
I lived in a studio apt., less than 500 sq. Ft., no walk-in closet, and I gave over half of my furniture away. Originally, I requested their "walk in closet" sized space. But received a call that what I wanted to store, a bed frame (no mattress), a love seat, a rocking chair, and 20 boxes would require a "Studio" space. I thought it was odd that I would need their "Studio" space to store less than half of a 470 sq. Ft. Studio worth of stuff, but whatever...
After it was all said and done, I get an email saying they had to move me into a 1BR storage space. I lived in a tiny studio and only stored half of my things! How would all of my stuff fit into a small studio, but storing half my stuff required a 1BR size storage space?
I wrote and complained, and they gave me a canned response full fine print... What it boils down to is that they are false advertising spaces to make their prices more competitive. Then, after they pick up your stuff, they charge you for a larger size. It's a scam--do not use them!
In the future, I'm going to go with Clutter or a better reviewed service that costs more but at least charges what they say they will and does the packing for me. Makespace is not the bargain or service they advertise!
I've been using MakeSpace for a little over a year and the level of service and convenience they offer are absolutely second to none. It makes living in a small NYC apartment more manageable b/c I'm able to put my off-season clothes and other things into storage when I know I'm not going to need them. 10/10 would recommend.
I could not believe it! When my things came back the crew told me the broke a leg off of my dinning room table and decided it was easier to store and move so the broke the other 3 off. They told me I could just "glue them back on". The company has agreed to pay for ONLY PART of the cost of repair. My table will never look the same. The crew who picked up my things told me there was a charge to wrap furniture and that is was unnecessary, I reviewed the website after they took my things and it said no charge to wrap. My couch was dragged through the water/dirt in my driveway caused by a recent snow melt almost everything including my table is scratched.
Guess there is a reason why this company is getting a negative review. At first, I thought it was a great company... I guess I was fooled too? I can't wait to get a house with a great storage space area to get me out of this mess. At first, I was told that it's easy. That they would take photos of all my stuff. They omitted the part that if it's my box or bin, they wouldn't take photos of the inside. If I knew, I would've gladly transferred everything to their bins! Why not, it was free! Secondly, I would've taken the time of labeling what's inside because they would just take photos of the top of the bin. So you literally don't know what's inside still. Lol
Now, my first experience. I call to request my first few bins brought to my home. I sold some vases online and they were at the storage. I requested if I could get it the next day. They said the next available one was the ff week. I couldn't wait that long. So the lady I spoke with said she'll try to squeeze me in on Saturday morning. Or afternoon. I asked her morning is better since I work in the PM. I told her i needed some boxes to be picked up as well. I really emphasized to her the need to have it done on Saturday. I found out later she was able to get that appt. But she wanted me to confirm it. I was already too busy and didn't get that message in time. It was so frustrating. So we basically missed that appt. I called back Monday. I expressed my frustrations since they could've just relayed the message to me that we got the appt. Anyway, they booked another appt. For today. They came, but just to drop off these boxes. They didn't even care to wait to pick up the other boxes. Wow! So I had to call for another appt so they can pick up the rest of the boxes and the ones I do not need. Plus, several of my vases were broken wow! Super disappointing. How are they keeping these boxes? Im so totally scared!
I don't know where to begin with these frustrations anymore! I mean yes, they are definitely cheaper. But I guess you'd have to pay for it somewhere else. In service and in quality?
Conclusion: If you value your items, safety, and home, don't store with MakeSpace.
They have lost or broken at least one item every time they have made a delivery to my home. They lost four whole suitcases I was storing and have delivered other people's items to me. They broke all four of my air conditioning units that I stored during the off season. They've even attempted to bully me to take down my honest negative reviews!
Their delivery guys always make me uncomfortable. At best, they're just rude and incompetent, at worst they are creepy, too familiar, and aggressive. I've had to call and complain about them. What was done about my complaints? Nothing.
Finally, they have damaged every floor and wall in my home from the front door to my bedroom.
Save yourself the headache and go with the competition!
First, my stuff was moved to different locations so everything didn't come at once. Second, 70% of my furniture had some kind of damage! They disassembled everything and lost the screws so I'm stuck with a bedframe with no screws and a table that I cant assemble (table which was scratched down the middle!) On top of that they lost my couch and told me 2 days before delivery (mind you I made an appointment a week and a half in advance!)
Working through getting reimbursed, first it's send pictures of the damage then receipts then send full pictures of the damaged goods!
Really bad service.
Difficult to work with, demanding paperwork, and they destroyed quite a bit of my stuff. Glassware, which I understand. But they also shattered a light fixture when they delivered it (banging into the wall) and dragged all the bins on our brand new wood floors, scratching the hell out of those.
Anytime you reach out to them, they respond "Please note that, as per our Terms of Service, you agreed to 'waive all rights and claims against MakeSpace should your fragile stuff break or other be damaged.'"
If you care about your things, stay away.
I have been in a Public Storage unit for over a year now, here in Los Angeles, that increases the price by $30 every 6 months. I was so happy to find MakeSpace. The process was very easy. But, what impressed me the most was the way they wrapped and handled my belongings during the moving process. I received e-mail updates during the move and I love how they upload the pics of your belongings onto the app. Im now saving $73/Month. Best storage decision Ive ever made.
My items were mishandled and broken. Perhaps an unhappy employee? YOU must submit the website of where you purchased the broken/damaged item in order to be reimbursed. You have 30 days to do so. MakeSpace did process my damage claim quickly.
They delivered the boxes to be pre-packed on time. I moved from a 1 BR 750 sq2 apartment. Their final cubic foot estimate of 10'x20' storage locker is exaggerated. By their own estimates a 10'x20' area would fit a 3BR with household applicances. I sold my couch and bicycles to mimimize storage space. I have no major kitchen appliances. I have a platform bed with headboard and mattress, large dresser and an IKEA desk. For the most part most of the items were boxes. You will get cloud photos of your items wrapped and cataloed, but not photos of how your items are stacked or stored in their facility. I question this, as proof of how your items are stored would back up what they are saying. My quote of $179 just ballooned to $400 plus dollars. Their movers are polite and very professional. They do send email reminders of pick up and delivery dates. I would NOT recommend this service unless they start supplying customers with finished product, ie., photos of items placed in their final storage place.
