HORRIBLE COMPANY
October 13, 2021

Terrible company! Do not use them! I put my stuff in storage with them for 6 months. They charged me roughly double of the price I was quoted at. Then, I got an email saying that they updated their pricing terms. When i put my stuff in storage with them their policy was a $59 drop off fee. They changed the policy and said it would cost me $800+ to deliver my stuff. When they did deliver my stuff they lost my $4K custom couch and a bar stool. The customer service representative told me that the warehouse is understaffed and therefore they dont have the resources to have someone try to locate it. They offered me $1K for the lost items. It would have been cheaper for me to be renting 2 apartments at the same time instead of using makespace. Not only did they try to scam me but they admitted to not even trying to look for my missing items. Spare yourself the money and use another service!

Don't go anywhere near this company!
September 30, 2021

MakeSpace was a terrible disappointment. I wish I looked at the Google reviews before using them. As a customer, I can't even write a review on their website to contribute an actual review; are all the website reviews currated and fake?
They are overpriced and scam you out of money at every opportunity they have. They say you're "locking in a quote" and then change it upon pickup to get more money. The whole experience was awful and then when they delivered my things last weekend one of the movers eventually said he didn't feel well and now my sister has COVID. Avoid this awful business.

Horiible and waste of money.
September 29, 2021

Except for the friendly delivery guys (Joshua R, Felix M and amex team), my experience with MakeSpace was really terrible.

First of all, the price was increased by changing the contract and changing the storage size while my items were stored. And by changing the subscription conditions (shipping was free when I signed up for Makespace. Then it changed. It was $59 per delivery.

The TV, chest of drawers, two coffee tables and hangers were completely smashed and unusable and the desk chipped in.
What's even more annoying is that things are missing.
It contained a Chanel bag and a Saint Laurent bag, as well as clothes and a blanket tote bag too.
They say they will look for it, but I wonder if they will find it or if I will be rewarded.
Finally (not the Joshua R, Felix M and amex team), the team that helped with the delivery made it uncomfortable by moving things roughly with an unwilling look and attitude.

Moved my Items 16x's!
September 25, 2021

Don't think your items are going to one safe place. Half of my items were broken and damaged only to learn my storage unit moved 16 x during the pandemic. I paid $3,600 in storage to have a pile of broken items arrive at my apartment. Make Space is only willing to pay $475 on my $1,600 claim. DON'T USE THEM!

I Was Worried... But Actually Had a Good Experience!
September 8, 2021

I too had read all the negative reviews here and on Yelp (conveniently after I had already had my stuff picked up). There were a few things that went wrong, but in the end, all my stuff was delivered on time, unbroken, and the movers helped unwrap everything.

Pick Up:
Pick up was a little rough. The movers were 45 minutes late to the allotted window. I had a flight to catch so this was also quite stressful-- because although the main Make Space phone was available, they just kept telling me "soon" from dispatch, while the movers wouldn't respond at all. They were silent, kinda rude, one guy watched stuff on his phone. BUT they wrapped everything up really well and I felt good about that!

App:
It sucks. It logs in an out all the time. It just won't allow you to access info to your things. Good thing I booked my pickup in like July because damn do they fill up quick and also the app crashes all the time. During pickup it let me track their location better though!

Pickup:
Amahzing. They were on time, communicative, helpful, went the extra mile and helped unwrap everything, AND were kind people. They did bring one extra thing (a broken dresser) that wasn't mine so sad face to whoever's that was. All of my stuff was secure and not broken, just one tear in my bedframe. Overall, with smaller items (I had a bed, mattress, desk, chair, and 7 bins), it seems a-okay! I also had some good luck on my side though, I guess.

Very Traumatic experience
September 7, 2021

The most traumatic experience ever! I received my boxes yesterday and most of my expensive items were stolen! I cried all night (not even exaggerating). It's a lifetime of savings in items stolen. I filled a claim with the stuff I can remember but Im sure there is more. I need help to get my items back. I trusted with my most valuable items and someone had the time to pick and chose the best of my wardrobe! Im sad and angry. I truly need HELP!.

Awful scam, avoid like the plague
August 15, 2021

Don't even think of using Makespace. They maliciously advertise as being a standard storage service and calculate your storage needs accordingly, but once they have your things they'll claim you need more space, because (surprise, surprise!) They conveniently forgot to mention that their storage units are actually only 4 feet tall, so they will "upgrade" your plan and automatically charge you double or triple what they originally quoted you. An outright scam that, based on the insane amount of negative reviews on the internet is probably on its last legs and will most likely shutter soon or be put put of its misery by a good old lawsuit from one or many of the people they've screwed over. Avoid like the plague.

Absolutely the worst experience in moving and storage
August 10, 2021

Wish there were a zero or a more negative number I could give them. They assured me my items would be in a cage 10x15 and raised the price to $250 from 199 after my second call. I put 19 items into storage with them 10 months ago, ( in Sept 2020) and tried to pull 18 out on the 1st July 2021. Heres what happened:-

Their 1st appointment to return my goods was 19 days later - ok, I paid rent for an empty apartment for 19 days.OK

Then they informed me that an antique English pine dining table ( very heavy and solid, currently items like that are offered on the internet at $10k to $20K) had suddenly lost two legs and a side panel - they sent me a photo which shows obviously that it had been dropped from a height and the whole side had broken off.

On the 19th they delivered the other goods- but suddenly a leather bench was missing. They could not find it? Said it was a computer error and they are still looking.

Numerous items were damaged, obviously the boxes had been thrown or dropped and showed signs of it. One couch was torn. I have photos of all the damage - just want to warn other would be customers - IF YOU VALUE YOUR PROPERTY, DO NOT LEAVE IT IN STORAGE with this Company. Their sales people are slick, but if you are storing goods you obviously want them back in the same condition you gave them - it WONT happen with this Company.

SCAM WON'T RETURN YOUR ITEMS!
August 10, 2021

Hi I think there should be a class action suit against Make Space LLC storage company. Is anyone interested in joining? When you ask to get your stuff back they say there's "no appointments" and refuse to return your things and keep charging you storage fees. There are numerous complaints against this company on here, BBB social media etc. The same experience, they hold people's stuff hostage and keep charging fees for storage. I think this would be a prime case for class action since this is not an isolated incident it is common business practice for them to collect more storage $ from customers. I have been trying to get my stuff out of storage for MONTHS! EVERYONE AT A BARE MINIMUM WHO WAS SCREWED BY THIS COMPANY SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH BBB AND THE FMCSA https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/ and The Attorney General of California (or your state). They need to be held accountable. If enough people bring to the attention their ongoing fraud, maybe someone will do something about it. CLASSACTION LAWSUIT!

Damage
July 26, 2021

I stored my 3 bedroom home in November with MakeSpace and just had my belongings returned in July. The initial move went well and the movers were great. Fast forward to July and the drop-off made by MakeSpace...

So much of my furniture was damaged when it was returned. My dresser that was in perfect condition was completely destroyed and was refused upon delivery because it was not salvageable. My leather couch and loveseat, end table and a bed were also damaged. They lost a set of bedrails that make the bed essentially useless. Also, 2 boxes of my kitchen pans/dishes were lost in storage. I have filed a claim but it doesn't seem that all of the damaged items will be covered because I didn't purchase their additional insurance. In my opinion, everything should be covered due to the carelessness and total disregard for my belongings. I was told it will take at least 2 weeks for them to try and "find" the missing items and then after that timeframe, they can be added to my damage claim as well. That claim will take a minimum of 4 weeks. Even though I provided pictures and documentation supporting the damage. After all the damage that was done to my belongings, it would have been cheaper to hire professional movers. Very disappointed in MakeSpace.

All they do is lie
July 21, 2021

Extremely unprofessional. Their team will offer you so many things - free delivery, free bags etc but when it's time for billing they will charge you for everything as per their "terms of service." Don't trust what they promise on the phone - even after reviewing the calls they'll say there's been a misunderstanding from their end and they can't honour the agreement. They charged me extra because they could not deliver my items on time so they charged for the days my items were in storage when it was their fault they couldn't deliver on time.
Never using this service again. Try Access storage and save yourself all the hassle.

MakeSpace streamlines a stressful move
July 14, 2021

I had an excellent experience here. Deidre Thompson, Jacobo Molina and Macire Traore were very prompt and professional in their service. All of my items came back intact (and I stored whiskey glasses, computer monitor, xbox, etc.). The experience here really is incredible and makes the entire process of moving and storage so incredibly easy.

Getting my stuff back has been an absolute nightmare, and I'm positive they're doing something illegal. I assumed that, like literally every other storage service, I'd be able to pick up my own stuff whenever I was ready to move back into an apartment. Apparently you need to make an appointment to even pick up your stuff yourself, with no help moving - AND they charge you 70$ anyways. No one communicated this to me! So, when I called them on my drive to my new apartment to ask what times I'd be able to retrieve my things, I was informed that they were booked for almost a MONTH and I wouldn't be able to pick up my bare essentials like my mattress, bedframe, etc... until then. Despite spending hours on the phone with them, their representatives were unable to resolve the issue and refused to put me in touch with anyone higher in the command chain. If I didn't have a friend to stay with, I'd be sleeping on the floor of an empty apartment for weeks until the next open appointment. I have no idea how this is legal - they're keeping my property without my permission, AND charging me for the additional month that they are non-consensually storing my belongings. In summary, don't give these people your money. (However, the movers were very nice and efficient when I was initially storing my stuff!)

Run Away!
June 22, 2021

I was moving from Los Angeles to Atlanta. Not knowing where I was going to live in Atlanta, I decided to rent a furnished sublet for a couple of months in Atlanta to help me get a lay of the land. I thought that it would be best if I moved out of my apartment in LA, put my stuff in storage and then find a mover to get said stuff and bring it to me once I found an apartment. Simple enough.

When I made my appointment with MakeSpace, I was told that there would be three people on the truck for the move out. There was only two. Then, when I got my first invoice they tried to change my plan from $206 a month to $289 a month without cause. I told them that my stuff came in under 400 cubic feet and therefore I should only be charged $209 a month. They changed it back. Then, I got an email asking me if I would like to spend money on extra insurance? But if not, then not to worry, because my items are fully covered anyways. I declined the "extra" insurance. Like "extra" insurance was going to protect my items, in storage, any further than the insurance that I already had?

I found an apartment in Atlanta and now it's time to get my stuff, so I need an address right? I thought that my items were in Los Angeles. They weren't. My items are in Ontario, which is forty miles east of LA. This is not what MakeSpace advertises. They say that they are out of Los Angeles, but in fact they are out of Ontario, and trying to contact MakeSpace to get the actual address proved to be difficult and time consuming.

Also, you have to contact MakeSpace a week before your pick up so that they can have your items ready for you to pick up. So I did. I had a total of 56 items. I told MakeSpace to only stage 53 items and to leave these other three items in storage. They said ok.

I gave MakeSpace two possible pick up dates, and that I wouldn't know the exact date until the moving company contacted me. They said no problem. We'll have your items ready for pick up on both dates.

I found out from the moving company that the pick up date was going to be the second of the two dates, which, once I found out, I informed MakeSpace of said date. Well, since I "missed" the first pick up date, MakeSpace charged me $100, and then a couple of hours later refunded me the money back. Just another innocent way of harassment.

Now the moving company has arrived and they can't find the storage unit. Apparently, it's among a bunch of other giant buildings that aren't labeled. The storage unit for MakeSpace doesn't say MakeSpace on it, so navigating which storage unit it theirs is impossible. So my guy had to get out of his truck, walk around and ask around until he finally found the storage unit.

Once he loaded my items, he calls me to tell me that I'm 85 cubic feet over the initial estimate. I told him that that's not possible, because I had three items removed, so the total count should only be 53 items, which would lower my cubic feet total. He said that there were 56 items staged and that they were already placed on the truck. To remove the items was an additional $400 and to ship the items was going to cost me $416.50. What do I want to do? Ship them I said, and I'll deal with it on my end.

I contacted MakeSpace and they apologized for the error. I told them that it was going to cost me an additional $416.50 and that they should pay for it since it was their error. They didn't contact me back about this issue, but they did send me a follow-up email asking me to rate their service. I gave them zero stars and told them that they sucked. A few days later I received another follow-up email asking me to rate their service again. I didn't reply.

MakeSpace lies. MakeSpace takes no responsibility and MakeSpace will rip you off.

Do not "makespace," for MakeSpace.

Dishonest/Deceptive/Misleading Company
May 18, 2021

I'm not usually one to leave a bad review but after everything I went through with this company, I truly think my experience can help someone in a future bind.
I found this company after I was layed off during covid and had to quickly leave the city so I could sublease my apartment in Chicago. Everything was great at the beginning - They sent large sturdy bags in advance to pack my belongings to eventually transfer into large plastic bins (which avoids purchasing packaging supplies), then they came and picked up my stuff and disassembled my furniture. This was all included in the monthly storage fee. I have to say the Pickup and initial part of my move was fantastic. However, I am a single individual with bedroom furniture and a couch, they told me my stuff is consuming a 300+ cubic storage unit which is $185 a month.
Later, when I realized how ridiculous that sounded and how I felt I was overcharged, I called to have them take a photo of my stuff occupying that large of a storage unit and they refused to do it. Come to find out, its not even in a storage unit, its on a giant pallet in a warehouse filled with other pallets of people's stuff! So this is a total LIE on their website that you have your own storage unit.

When I finally was ready to get my stuff 7 months later ($1200 in storage fees later), I had the most difficult time trying to schedule my stuff. I was no longer in Chicago. And the $59 delivery anywhere – doesn't really count. They don't have a license to ship over state lines even though they have storage facilities all over the country. They won't deliver/pack a Pod due to liability reasons so I had to find a cross country moving company that was over $3k to get my stuff. It was beyond difficult to select a date and time because the warehouse only allows three hour warehouse pickups which is really two hours because you have to be there by the end of the 2nd hour – oh and they don't do weekends. They were so "busy" that when I called, they couldn't schedule me an appt. For almost three weeks out. I am living on a borrowed mattress on the floor of my new apartment in California for a month because of the delays in scheduling to pick up my stuff and time for my stuff to get to California. Oh! AND they charge you $62 to pick up your OWN stuff at the warehouse! I haven't even received my stuff from the moving company yet, I'm terrified to see what it looks like after reading everyone else's reviews.

This company seems easy and convenient but it just stacks charges and is very deceptive. This is not a business I would ever recommend, even if you're in a bind. My total cost with this company was $1800. Plus my cross county move was about $3,000. If anyone is in a similar position – I recommend the Uhaul pods and adding movers ($300). They will deliver the pod, you can have local movers load it for you (all through uhaul). They can store it for as long as you want for $90ish a month. And the initial fee is about $1600. If I would have done this my total cost would have been about $3000 vs. $4800. UNREAL

And just to add a cherry on top, my moving company wouldn't accept the bags, so I am now the proud owner of 21 green makespace storage bins ($315.00 later). LOL

I do like to leave things on a positive note though. The customer service was always great. The people they hire are awesome. I dealt with MANY.

Do Not Believe Anything They Say
May 12, 2021

I had a two-hour conversation with my representative before I made an appointment. He told me that I could not lose anything on making a deposit over the phone then, as I had up to 24 hours before service to cancel and receive my full deposit back. I decided to sell my furniture instead and called over 24 hours to cancel and they did not refund my $350.00 deposit!

Awful experince
May 2, 2021

I would caution anyone contemplating the use of Make Space as your mover of choice to rethink your decision. The way in which may painting, artwork and furniture was handled was appalling. At delivery there was over $2500 in damages because of absolutely horrible packing methods by the movers at my old home. Literally took them downstairs and unbeknownst to me threw them in a box! The artwork was wrapped all together and stacked 15 hi, broken glass damaged frames, damaged artwork. Instead, of standing behind their methods of their movers, I was offered $250! Reason oh "that's all the insurance you have". Why that might be true gross negligence by your movers should warrant a different answer. I will be filing a complaint with the Federal Commerce Commission.

Don't use!
February 6, 2021

Warning don't use them! We were moving into a new place and needed to store some new furniture. The furniture was picked up by Make Space in perfect condition - they were brand new in the bubble wrap from the manufacturer.

Fast forward a few weeks when they delivered the furniture. The bubble wrap was all ripped and falling off. The wood nightstands were all chipped and damaged.

The drivers were really nice and acknowledged that they items were clearly mistreated in the process. They told me to file a claim.

I filled the claim and they wanted to pay me $60. They originally cost $2,000. They then said they would pay $250 and I would have to sign a NDA because they didn't want the negative attention.

$250 for damaging $2000 is not worth this happening to others. Do not use Make Space for storing nice items. I found some similar reviews online.
