They need to hire more help. The people there are working fast and furiously and can't keep up. There is really no such thing as service. It's all they can do to clean out the dressing rooms and ring people up. I hate the whole coupon thing. The lines are too long with the time it takes to try to manipulate the sale to maximize the coupon purchase. Just lower the prices. It's a scam anyway. Half the time you can't find what you are looking for even if the sales person says it's in the system. It's likely on one of they many many hanging racks that are ever present. I just don't shop there any more. I have a card but never use it.
I have a Macy's gift card. I was told there was a temporary hold on it. When I called they verified it hadn't been used, but I was told it was "old" and I would need to prove ownership of the card before they would remove the hold. The ONLY proof they accept is the original purchase receipt. They will not even tell me (for security reasons so I'm told) how old the gift card now is so I can even attempt to fulfill their insane request to produce the original purchase receipt. This goes against the whole concept of "gift card". This is a way for the company not to honor the law that gift cards do not expire and to keep the funds without providing the service/goods that were purchased. This is robbery and I will NEVER shop at Macy's again.
I would suggest that anyone reading this consider long and hard before they purchase another Macy's gift card as Macy's has found a way not to honor them by hiding behind their super secret policy (which I'm thinking can change at their discretion) because they won't even tell me after what period of time they put such a hold on their gift cards!

Social Media apparently worked. A few days after posting this I received a call from someone in Macy's customer service. They wanted to verify my address to issue a new gift card. Several weeks later I was shocked to receive a replacement gift card! After my prior lengthy discouraging call to their Fraud department and talking with their manager who told me without a purchase receipt they could not do anything for me, I can't believe they actually gave in and took care of their customer.
Regularly priced items are a bit expensive for us, but when they go on sale, discount, clearance, plus coupons, etc, no other retailer can bit these prices! For example, I got a great quality and brands like Kenneth Cole jeans for $5 (regular $120), Polo shirt for $12 (regular $90), and nice Lacoste long sleeve shirt with buttons for $18 (regular price was $110). Love this story, always friendly staff, but in the meantime it feels like they experiencing shortage of staff

Excellent quality of merchandise and you can often hit a sale. Customer service is spot on. Return process is wonderful.
I have never been happy with Macys. People who worked there do not want to work there. They are unionized and some think they just need to show up and work 2 hours out of 8 and that is OK. I was a Xmas wrapper there once. Yikes.
After the internet sales start to climb I have not shop there. But every time I go in I wonder why I even came in to shop there in the first place!
I still love Thanksgiving Parade and all the old timers and old people still shop here so I want them to survive. But they really need a new brand make over fast!
I SHOP ONLINE QUITE FREQUENTLY AT MACYS. I AM ALWAYS SO IMPRESSED WITH THEIR STANDARDS. I ALWAYS GET THE MERCHANDISE IN THE RIGHT COLOR AND SIZE, NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN DEFECTIVE (INCLUDING SMALL APPLIANCES.) AND EVERYTHING IS PACKAGED SO WELL. I NEVER HAVE TO RETURN SOMETHING BECAUSE OF THEIR ERROR.
I WISH THAT YOU GOT THE SAME SERVICE EVERYWHERE!
I just scored some lovely shoes during their summer sale. I love when you go to the register and you think you're going to pay one price, then it turns out to be at least 30% less than you though. One can't have too many shoes :)

Different parts of the country have different stores-hard recognize the Macy's in Pentagon City, VA as the same store in Burlington MA.
The MA store has notoriously held up shipping for weeks, over- or under-charged, and been a dirty mess.
It has recently completed some renovation, but it hasn't renovated sales personnel.
VA and the Minneapolis store are another story-lovely, great displays, staff, etc. etc... that is why I ranked Macy's as "average."

If you have daughters, you'll love this site! You can get a lot of brand name items at lower prices than in the store.
I have been a Macy's customer for years but I am sad to say after visiting the Kailua Kona Macy's I will not be a customer anymore. I was sadly disappointed when I went to their store for a pair of Black Pants. Should have been an easy item to purchase but the Sales Clerk informed me that the store there does not carry any Women's sizes over an XL. Since their store normally carries plus sizes I find it strange that they would choose to discriminate against Plus Sized Women at this location but that is exactly what they are doing. It is a shame since I have always liked shopping at Macy's but if they choose to discriminate then I have no choice other than to Boycott buying anything at their store. Sorry Ladies if you want Plus Sized Clothing in Kailua Kona Macy's evidently does not want you to shop there and discriminates against larger Women. Best to spend your money some place else who wants your business
You can shop almost any clothing brand at great prices at Macy's. Sometimes when I go to the mall right on woodside New York and cant find an item my size, Macy's.com tells me which stores could have my size.
It is wonderful to be able to shop online with Macys. You already know they have good quality products, clothing and it is fairly simple order process. Wonderful for those of us living too far from a Macy's store.
