Most of the time the premium listed on the site is really high and the deductible is huge, I love how it says Affordable health care but my question is who can afford it.
I would like to warn anyone not to use this place, I cancelled my policy in 2019 and they keep renewing and taking money from me. I am not trying to fight my last years auto renew and it's a major pain! Be aware
Since 2019 I have had the same plan and costs through healthcare.gov. It was going smoothly and it was affordable for me. My monthly premium was $145 a month but my specialist copayments were only $5, prescriptions were free, and my deductible was $1,900 so if I went to emergency room. I am prone to getting pneumonia (non-covid) since 2017. I have had Gastro problems and chronic migraines. I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and was waiting to see if it was cancerous. There was a lot of waiting for doctor appointments so it dragged on for months of me being stressed about my prognosis. In September I noticed my healthplan changed before open enrollment and they changed it for me. They bragged about a lower monthly premium. It's called the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and they emphasize lower monthly premiums. What stood out to me was the copays are now $65 for a specialist and the prescriptions are $5 each now. The deductible went up to $4,600 and this changed after I went to the emergency room the first time whenever I needed a chest X-ray just to get antibiotics. The minuteclinic wouldn't give me antibiotics without a chest X-ray and I couldn't get into any urgent cares or anywhere. I was limited on where I could go and I couldn't wait around. During my cancer scare I was stressed out and my hair fell out (it may be from hormones and I'm getting more tests). In December I went to emergency room again with symptoms of a stroke and possible brain bleed. Ever since then, I got a doctor bill for $1,761 that I have to pay out of my pocket because I didn't meet the deductible. At the time I wasn't thinking clearly or else I wouldn't of gone to hospital. I am now in a worse position because I was so used to how my insurance used to be that I didn't know I was going to get a bill that I couldn't afford. I'm already on a payment plan for other medical debt from an MRI. This has all been just too much stress. I have missed work for times I have had to call the insurance and be on the phone for hours. I spent the day crying and I'm sick to my stomach. It's ruined my life and I looked up costs to get health insurance directly through an insurance company and it's $400-$600 a month premium. I can't look at plans to compare for healthcare.gov until enrollment in Nov or Dec 2022. They took away options whenever I renewed this past Dec 2021 and I already sat on the phone and website with very little options.
No one ever knows what's going on at this place. Everyone tells you something different. I had pay, a higher premium I couldn't afford only to find out they screwed me up. I was supposed to be getting more subsidies. The mentally challenged employee I talked to never even apologized. This worthless govmint agency needs to be completely abolished. The healthcare industrial complex just needs to implode on itself. I will be happy to see that happen. Just proves NOTHING ran by the government EVER works.
I see all these commercials about people paying $49 and even $0. Mine was going to be almost $600 for just ME! I guess I need to be on Medicaid to get free health care! I would give it 0 stars if I could!
When I started to be on my own 3 years ago, I could use my wife's insurance, but I signed up on healthcare.gov, because I did not want to lose my doctor and my kids' doctors. First year, okay. Second year, the Covid hit, and the IRS refunded me the tax premium, so not much to complain. In the year 2021, suddenly this plan became trash - I had to pay almost the full amount out of pocket for the doctor's visit, blood test, and my medication price jumped from $30 a month to $350. Then I wanted to switch, even that means that I will have to switch doctors.
The messages from Marketplace always gave me this impression that if I don't re-enroll in the market place it would be automatically cancelled, so hurry up and re-enroll asap. But no. I was never reminded that when I signed up for the plan, the fine prints said they had the right for 5-years of automatic re-enrollment (thanks for another reviewer in this site). I was surprised when the insurance company sent me an email about the pending charge for January 2022, and they even sent a new insurance card for the year 2022. I called the insurance company 3 times, spent hours with different reps, and finally understood that it was because of Marketplace's automatic renewal. They transferred the call to a Marketplace rep, and the rep said it would be cancelled.
Next day I called Marketplace, this time a different rep. He had a hard time to find any information about my cancellation. Anyway, he told me to wait 2-3 days for the confirmation email to arrive. I asked for an email confirmation, but they were not able to do it. I asked for a confirmation number for the case, but he could not provide it. Finally, he provided me a 27-digits confirmation number, but I was not even sure what this was for, probably for the confirmation of the call, which would be of no use if anything happens.
So today, on 12/30/21, I called Marketplace again. This time a female rep. She did not know what the confirmation number is for. With some research, she told me that I am not to be re-enrolled into 2022 coverage. But I need some evidence, some confirmation, after reading some horrible stories on this site. Basically, if the Marketplace messes up and I would be charged for the year 2022, and I would have no evidence that I have cancelled it. The rep said she could not send me any email/message, saying that it's their protocol. I asked to talk to her supervisor and was transferred a few times. In 30 minutes, I started talking with a male, and he provided me the same explanation, that they could not send me any email or message to confirm my cancellation of 2022 coverage. He tried to convince me that in healthcare.gov, the status of my current 2021 plan ("Active until 12/31/2021") is the proof that I have successfully cancelled my 2022 coverage. I asked for a more explicit phrase, something like "your will not have coverage for the year 2022", and he said no. He also said this is per the guideline of CMS.gov. I asked for another supervisor, this time a woman. Again she said the Marketplace will not send out any message/email/mail about the cancellation per the guideline, but the insurance company will in a few days. I had to ask for another supervisor, and was transferred to a peer. An old lady, probably with better patience, but the same BS. She could not let me talk to her manager, and she just hang up.
Company name is maximus and it has branches all over the country.
Commercial says hey I got covered me and my family 60$ a month. I'm single can't make ends meet and my cheapest plan according to website is 400$+ a month. And it doesn't even cover my medications. Will go without taking my medications I guess.
The agents you get to talk to after an inhuman amount of wait time know absolutely nothing! They simply read off a horribly long script. I asked one person if my coverage gets auto renewed next year. She puts me on hold for ages then comes back and reads a script which went on for ages, so I had to stop her and say, hey, chill I don't understand a word you are saying and its all just legal BS. STOP! So she stopped and I asked her my question again and then she read what it said on my account which is general and doesn't explicitly say if my coverage renews or not info that I can already see. So I had to keep saying "yes I can read too, but I need to know if it renews" and then she finally just gave up and said no it doesn't. So why in all that is holy didn't she simply just F%$ing say that 45 mins ago? I mean I know exactly why but it is an unpopular opinion with woke/gen Y and Z people so there is no point explaining the truth, we'll just say that this Marketplace it is an extremely incompetent and unhuman process that has no competition so why do they need to make it better? Same with all Govt services, the lack of competition makes them absolutely useless and unbearably frustrating. As much as I am begging for national healthcare, This certainly is where capitalism shines. Imagine if the govt gave us national healthcare and then ran the show like this... I'd be begging for private insurance again lol
I used this site to find insurance. I found and started s policy. I then received 83 calls before 9am on Sunday morning. As of 1pm Monday I've had 42 calls. All my messages and responses letting them know I have insurance has not stopped the calls. They offer no recourse to have calls stopped. To avoid dealing with this, DO NOT USE THIS SITE!
The site promises to have an affordable plan. I have applied for a 70 y. O. woman as a helper in a community center. The poor woman in the state of VA had to pay a minimum of $1330 a month.
The lady, according to the files that I had to provide for the site has practically no income and lives off her family and some savings. There is nothing "affordable" in Obamacare.
Not only did a representative named R. Martinez just hang up on me bc he couldn't answer my question, I had asked other questions he ignored. I was trying to enroll for 2022. The plan he recommended was $687 a month. That was for me only and I'm not working or receiving any kind of benefits or income. Wow! In August I applied for 2021. Within 3 days of applying I was in emergency surgery for diabetes, plus had Covid. I called them back to see what else I needed to do. A woman told me I had been enrolled with Ambetter and there were no cost to me. I was good to go! A month in a half later I'm still on the hospital with Ambetter covering the cost. Then they tried to transfer me to a physical rehab and Ambetter said they terminated me for nonpayment. So I called Ambetter and explained I was told no cost but was willing to pay whatever I owed. They put me on hold then returned and said I never had insurance with them. Myself and the hospital case worker asked how that was possible when they had been covering me until then. They said I never enrolled and should call the Healthcare Market back. I did. Several times. They just kept saying I needed to call Ambetter. All they did was keep telling me to call the other back. I even gave the Healthcare Market the date and time of the phone call confirming I had insurance. They never checked into it. Even talked to 2 supervisors. Nothing but crickets. They're not even functional. I gave them a 1 because there's not a 0.
Went on the site just to get a quote. As soon as I submitted my info I got a call from a agent who connected me to another agent. He was extremely pushy about when I could start coverage and how much could I afford monthly. He didn't even explain any plans he just wanted to get right down to the money. He hung up on me when I said I would want my coverage to start the 1st of the year. Shortly after the lady that called first called me back and claimed that was her first time calling me! OMG it was a total game. I asked her to remove me from the call list ASAP. I do not recommend.
Just spoke to A "Gabrielle". She got upset because I looked up reviews... SMH. She asked if i "just wanted to waste her time. Are you kidding me? Her phone# or what she gave me is *******338
I've never applied but got charged 700.00 last tax season called them to tell them I never wanted it & I'm still getting mail from them asking for income proof that I dont send cuz I don't want it & thats what they did last year it says you will get disqualified if you don't reply but dont be fooled they still enroll you then hit you with a fine for insurance you didn't know you had nor used STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE
I live in Missouri which expanded medicaid in August 2021. As I figured out later on, the new rules say that if you have zero income in any given month that you are automatically eligible for medicaid during that month.
I applied through this website in mid September and said that I have zero monthly income. The website incorrectly said that I didn't qualify for medicaid and that I must purchase a plan through the marketplace if I wanted health insurance so I did and the cheapest plan was $350.
A month later which was almost two months after Missouri's new medicaid rules went into effect, this website notifies me that I'm eligible for medicaid backdated to September 1st because the new law was passed in August.
I called them and said that they need to refund the $350 for the plan I purchased because they incorrectly told me that I didn't qualify for medicaid when I first applied.
During this process, I figured out that their programmers dragged their feet on updating the website to reflect the new Missouri medicaid rules which was the source of the whole problem. The website was supposed to reflect the new rules on September 1st but they didn't update the website until October 1st.
Ten phone calls and countless hours later wasted talking to them on the phone, I finally found someone who wasn't totally clueless and they agreed that I got screwed over so they escalated it to their parent agency the Center for Medicaid Services.
A week later I get a letter from this agency telling me that they won't refund the money and refuse to explain their logic as to why. I tried calling and emailing them multiple times afterwards and they ignored my emails and voicemails (because they won't let you talk to a real person).
Then they had the audacity to send me an email a few days later telling to enroll in coverage for the upcoming new year and that "4 out of 5 people find a plan through the marketplace for an average of $10 a month" which is a total lie and scam.
In short, this website is ran by a bunch of low IQ government stooges with zero accountability who are largely out to steal your money and I advise great caution in trying to get health insurance through them.
I found out in October that I was no longer able to get my employer medical coverage. I filled out the application at Healthcare.gov to see what was available. After filling out the entire application I was told I was not eligible because I still have coverage. The application asked if I had coverage until December 31. I answered yes but my coverage ended that day. I called up Customer service who treated me like a child. I stated that the application at NO time asked when my current coverage ends but only asked IF I had coverage until year end. "You don't know what you are doing" he kept telling me. After explaining 4 times the problem he said "Clearly you don't understand. I will walk you through and show you where you went wrong". After 30 minutes of his attempting to show me I was wrong, he apologized and stated that the application was programmed wrong and no longer seemed to have the same questions asking WHEN current coverage ended and when coverage was being requested for. He said, "WOW, no one will qualify for coverage how this is programmed!" Is this a simple programming error or a ploy to avoid new coverage? He did some work on his end and I received a new notice that I not only qualified for 2022 insurance plans but should qualify for the government discount. Without taking an additional hour of my time and refusing to accepting NO for an answer I would not have the pleasure of seeing plans starting at $1300 a month that cover virtually nothing and have ZERO providers within 60 minutes of my home! And this is supposed to be 'good coverage'. So much for making sure all Americans get medical treatment and coverage. If I were not a Citizen I would get better care for ZERO cost to me! Thanks...
You've got to be kidding me. The cheapest coverage for me is $800.00 a month. So two weeks of my pay on top of my $900.00 a month rent. So another two weeks of my pay. That leaves me 0 left for my $300.00 a month auto insurance. I am at $2000. 00 a month without paying any bills or putting any food on the table. What the hell is wrong with this country? Who the hell can afford to live anymore? Insurance is out of control! Something has to give soon or we are all in trouble!
Its a scam to sell your information to insurance companies. I never got a quote. I just received 10 calls a day from people selling me insurance. 3 months later and I am still blocking numbers. If you choose to sign up, Don't give your real number. They will call none stop. Its sad our government runs a scam to sell our information. This should be against the law
I found a plan on healthcare.Gov for $217 a month. It was the worst insurance I have ever had. My doctor was listed on their site as if he was in network. I found out later that he's not in network. I ended up needing a medical procedure so I called and asked can it go toward my deductive. They said no. So $3k out of pocket plus other visits associated with the surgery. I received the next bill and thought they'd cancel due to non payment. Nope. They sent another bill. Now they think I'm going to pay them $430.
This $#*! should be illegal. Oh, it's the government so it's ok that it's not legal
I just had the "JOY" of talking to customer service, I was need to change my name in the BCBS insurance- I am so pissed off their behavior! The first representative said-she can barely understand me!? In addition she was scared to make mistakes in my updating information, and she transferred me to another representative, which she said can understand Russian language. And another lady was surprised a lot because she is works only with Medicare and she is able speaks just English. So second lady gave me a phone number. I was calling once again and third person (men) said- he doesn't have time to assist me! SORRY FOR BOTHERING YOU! It is ridiculous how they are working. If they are soooo busy or they are sooo scared what the point to work in that place, I used to work in customer service more than 20 years, but never met so many rude people in one place.
