I've used Grove for about two years now and was aware I had to always watch my cart for extras they sneak in there but was generally happy with the products. As of recent, the same order has been "damaged" in shipment and returned 4 times. I finally requested a full refund and to cancel. Grove needs to figure out the shipping issues and tell the customer what's going on. Don't say it's been shipped if it hasn't.
I've been ordering tissue paper, toilet paper, and paper towels for 2 years. I received a box of tissue papers with what looked like meals worms embedded into the tissue paper, at least 8 of them in one box! I was too late to cancel the next order so I received another box, same thing! Beyond disgusted thinking worms may also be in the toilet paper. I contacted customer service and they refunded- but WHY ARE THERE WORMS IN THE TISSUE PAPER?! Totally unsanitary
Hi there, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are very sorry to hear about your recent experience with Grove. Please reach out to [email protected] so we can investigate further. Thank you kindly.
I gave this site a chance. No Plastic sounded good. The products were just OK. I canceled everything before the next subscription was scheduled to arrive. Then months later I have an order just ship. I didn't want it or request it. Beware. This seems like one of those places that you will need to change you CC number if you use.
Hi Brian, thanks for reaching out to Grove. Grove is a flexible recurring order service by default. We send reminder emails and texts 7 days before an order is set to ship and then a day before, giving you the option to cancel or make any changes. We're very sorry if you didn't see those. If you haven't already, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] and we'd be happy to send you a return label so you can send back what you don't want for a full refund. Thanks again for your review.
I've been using "green" cleaners or making my own for over 20 years. Living in a fairly small town, I have a hard time finding some of the products I prefer if I'm buying off the shelf (Method for example). After seeing many ads for Grove, decided to give it a try rather than just ordering the same stuff from Amazon. I'm not a "retail therapy" kind of shopper. I don't "buy more to save more" or get taken in by "if you spend x you get a free y" kind of marketing. Unfortunately, I am clearly not the target market for this company, which is ALL ABOUT this. AND its a subscription service. Every month they throw a bunch of stuff in your cart they think you might like, and you have to go in and manually delete stuff you don't want. If you miss the email, well, they have your credit card number and a box of stuff you didn't choose shows up on your doorstep. Turning off the subscription all together is possible but takes some research.
I LOVE the idea behind this company. More natural/greener products all in one place and a move towards less plastic. But geez louise this is a pushy system. I don't want to have to monitor a system closely to avoid products being shipped. Just not my cup of tea.
Thank you for your review, Jennifer! Grove is a flexible recurring order service by default but everything is completely customizable and up to you. It is most likely that those items were added to your cart because of your Product Subscriptions. You can customize the shipping frequency for each product in your subscriptions or remove them completely by clicking the "x" in the top right corner of the product photo. Items in your product subscriptions will be automatically placed in your cart based on those settings. Removing items from your subscription does not remove them from your cart if they have already populated for your next shipment. Having said this, we will certainly share your comments with our team. Thanks again for your review!
This is a very dishonest and terrible business. No where when i made a purchase did it say it was going to bill me monthly. I would of never ordered if i known i was going to get billed monthly. It was hidden so well i had no idea.
Not only that but the service was terrible. One of the bottles broke during shipping and leaked all over everything. When i contacted customer service I didn't even get a reply.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID THIS SITE! Trust me it's not work the headache. Also most of their products are stuff you can buy in your local Target and Walmart. They just resell other merchants products. Disgraceful website
Hi Drew, we're very sorry to hear about your recent experience. Grove is a flexible recurring order service by default but it is completely customizable - we do offer regular one-off shipments too. We send reminder emails and text messages 7 days before an order is set to ship and then a day before giving you the option to cancel or make any changes. In addition, when you sign up for Grove, you agree to our terms of use before placing an order. Those can be found here: https://www.grove.co/terms/
We always want our community to be happy with their shopping experience, so if there is anything else we can do to help, please reach out to [email protected]. Thank you again for taking the time to leave a review.
I like the selection and the convenience of monthly orders.
However, if you put something in your cart once, they will add it every single time, as well as any related products to that item, and keep doing so every single order.
For example, I ordered mosquito sticks 1x in early summer. It, and like items, are automatically added to my cart before every order, even thought it's now November in the NW and I never purchased them more than once.
And note- they will ship your order without your confirmation, it happens automatically, so if you aren't paying attention you will end up with (paying for) a ton of stuff you likely don't need.
I have at least $100 worth of product I don't need every single order that I have to remove so it doesn't ship.
Meanwhile, they have little in place to tell me when I might be leaving an essential that I haven't ordered in a while (like toilet paper). I'd much rather get overstocked on something useful than be tricked into a higher cart value with random crap.
Shipping extra boxes of products you don't need that might end up landfilled (with fossil fuels) sure seems to go against all of the claptrap they have about being an environmentally friendly company.
If they really were focused on the environment, they would add cubi-scan logic to your order, telling you how many boxes would be shipping and whether or not they were full. I got a 2 box order one time that had just 2 paper towel rolls in the second full-sized box. I easily would have bought more just to fill that box up, which would have given them the extra $$ they seem so desperate for every order.
I'm annoyed. Not to the point of cancelling, but that's probably coming in the not to distant future.
Hi there, thank you for your review! It is most likely that those items were added to your cart because of your Product Subscriptions. Items in your product subscriptions will be automatically placed in your cart based on those settings. Twice it's happened that I put change in my cart and things were added to my cart without my permission and when I emailed them they told me rest assured you won't be charged and a week later I was charged $72 I just noticed it happened 2 months in a row I will not be ordering from this company despite liking the products. I should not have to send back products and be charged for something I didn't order. I'm reporting to the BBB
Hi Crystal, we apologize for any confusion and hope we can offer some clarity here. The items in your cart are added from your Product Subscriptions, which are based on previous purchases. It sounds like there were enough items in your cart to meet the order minimum, which generated a shipment. Please know you are always in control with Grove and can choose how often products are added to your cart, or delete all subscriptions by visiting grove.co/pantry/subscriptions. Please also be sure to remove the items from your cart, as they will not be automatically deleted. We'll always send a few email reminders before any shipments process. And we do have a happiness guarantee —just reach out to us within 30 days of delivery and you can return any unwanted items for a full refund, no questions asked. Feel free to send us an email at [email protected] if we can answer any questions.
Do not join their VIP membership. Even though I called 9 months ago and told them I did not want anything else and to close my account, they said I did not ask for my VIP membership to be stopped. And I received a charge on my account. What would be the reason to keep a VIP membership open if I do not want anymore product from them?! And they could not refund because it was too late. They says it has to be within 30 days and it's been 45 days!? The product is the same price or higher than at a retail store. And you pay for shipping unless you buy so much! It a real scam!
Hi Jeanne, our apologies for any confusion. Our flexible monthly shipments and VIP membership are two separate services, and canceling one does not cancel the other. Three days before your VIP renewal, you should have received an email with a reminder and an option to cancel—we're so sorry if that was missed or went to your spam folder! Please know you can shop Grove with both, one, or neither service, so some people do keep one without the other. Many people choose to keep their VIP membership for the seasonal gifts, free shipping, and access to special promotions and sales. We also offer price matching, so if you see an item at a better price elsewhere, we'll gladly match that in your cart. If we can provide any more clarification or answer any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out at [email protected].
Hi there,
Have been with Grove for 2 years. Grove notes that they are committed to becoming plastic free yet many of their products continue to come in plastic bottles and their cloths are 80% polyester and 20% polyamides? Is Grove just another gimmick playing on people's desires to become environmentally responsible while continuing to do the same as any other company? If they can't truly stand up to their pledge to protect the environment how are they any different than any other brand name cleaning product company?
Hi Yaniv, thanks for reaching out with your concerns. As a registered B Corporation, everything available at Grove has met our high standards for non-toxicity, efficacy, and sustainability, and is cruelty-free. Please know that we’re committed to an ethically sustainable future, which is why every purchase you make with Grove is 100% plastic neutral. We’ve also pledged to be completely plastic-free by 2025. Big changes take time but rest assured we are committed. Feel free to visit grove.co/sustainability to learn more about our endeavors.
I placed an order due to an enticing email offering me free products which I fell for. I was supposed to get three free items and even placed more items in my cart so I can get the additional free item. That's how they make you spend more money btw. After I placed order got confirmation thinking all was well.
I reviewed order by chance after a couple of hours and discovered that one of the three items was missing. My request was simple. Pls ship the missing item. I spoke with three people total to resolve the issue. Said they're NOT able to but instead they want to give me credit for my next order! I said NO! I don't wish to spend anymore at this time and I want the three items with matching scent in my house! I was told they're trying to eliminate carbon print blah blah but offered to send a return label so I can return items and start my order all over! So now I also paid for shipping and again offered to remove on my next order! Talk about eliminating carbon print! 25 minutes later a simple request to send missing item still not resolved and I'm beyond frustrated at this point! I finally told them to unsubscribe me me never to send me any correspondence! Ridiculous! $5.75 item to make me happy and we ended up with a customer not coming back! Sayonara Grove!
Grove responded!
And like I said in my first review I am being told the same thing I heard for almost 25 minutes on that second call with the reps and supervisor.
If you can just send the missing item will be much appreciated. I don't think I need to be on the phone again for another 25 minutes BEO g lectures on your company policy on carbon footprint.
Hi there, thank you for reaching out to Grove. As a certified B Corporation, we take our sustainable shipping practices seriously. In addition to carbon offsetting every order, we want to ensure that we're never shipping boxes that contain a small number of items. By setting a minimum, we're setting a sustainable standard that our community consolidates the items they need into one shipment which reduces our carbon footprint and packaging waste. We always want our customers to have a wonderful experience shopping with Grove, so please feel free to reach out to [email protected] and we'd be more than happy to look into this further for you!
The way how Grove tricks customers in subscription speaks of unethical business practices. When you create an account they mention that you will never run out of stuff with a subscription model. You would assume that you can choose to subscribe or place a regular order. But it's not the case, once you place an order, you have signed up for a subscription. And it is never mentioned during the check out process.
This lack of transparency seems intentional. I find it very unethical and I can't trust a company like that.
As a person who worked on a subscription service for one of the nation-wide retailers, I'm sad to see those bad business practices.
I think one day they will be sued for that. Would be similar to a law suit against Audible.
Hi there, thank you for reaching out to Grove. Grove is a flexible monthly shipment service. Sorry if this was not more clear during your order experience. The default schedule is every month, but the delivery frequency is totally flexible and up to you. We do offer regular one-off ordering options too! We send reminder texts and emails giving you the option to edit or cancel your order before it is set to ship. If you need help managing your account, please reach out to [email protected] and we'd be glad to further assist you!
Beware of the fine print because once you buy something they'll automatically sign you up for a subscription and charge you double what you paid before. Too much hassle for overpriced products and the fact that they don't make it clear that you're subscribing to a really expensive service shows the type of company they are. So if you don't want to sit at the post office wasting an afternoon returning items that you never ordered to get your own hard earned money back that they decided to take from you, then I'd suggest to take your business elsewhere. Not to mention unless these products somehow grow hands and clean the house themselves, the price is NOT worth it. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would spend $65 on a couple of cleaning supplies every month so I'm guessing they make their profit off of signing people up for this service without them knowing which is dishonest enough for me to go out of my way to write this review to warn other people. Total scam and waste of time.
Hi Emily, we do apologize for any confusion about our flexible monthly shipments or our services in general. Having a Grove account comes with two completely customizable features: A VIP Membership and flexible monthly shipments. Individual Product Subscriptions are also a part of our service. As noted upon signing up, a Grove account defaults to process monthly shipments, which can be edited or canceled anytime after your first order. To be sure you're only getting what you want, we'll send a few email reminders before your orders process. Those are sent 7 days and 3 days prior to processing, and you can also sign up for text alerts. If you'd prefer to shop without auto shipments, you can make that change right from your account. Additionally, we can confirm our prices do not change from one order to the next (with the exception of sales, of course), and you can compare all orders from your account by visiting Order History. First orders do contain promotional free items, but that free gift set cannot be combined after that. If you have questions about how to manage your account, please reach out to our team of Grove Guides for support.
When I first started buying grove it was great. Then product was out of "stock" then they offered free samples, oh no sorry out of stock. If you spend so much you get a free gift. Lol bull, since they "forgot" to put in box, they say oh no you have to ship that very minute.
Nowhere does it say that and it hasNEVER been that way.
Don't waste your time or money.
They lie, and don't deliver.
Hi Kaye, we're sorry for any frustration or confusion. We happily offer a free full-sized gift with each qualifying order, which means it's met the associated minimum and you've clicked Ship Now. Under each gift option, you'll see "Ship now to redeem". We also include similar language in the emails highlighting those gifts, and apologize if that was missed. Our additional apologies for your frustration with our inventory. Like many other companies, COVID-19 has impacted almost all third party brands that we offer, including our own Grove Co. Brand. Access to materials to create products, as well as the labor force health restrictions have created difficulties across the board, but we're doing our best to keep our community stocked with the essentials they need while also being mindful of the significant impact this pandemic has had on so many in our industry.
When I first started Grove I had no real problems. Recently there is something wrong with their shipping. It seems they make the shipping label but the item never gets shipped. The first time they told me it was lost in the mail, no big deal it was reshipped right away, the very next order it happened again. Customer service was very responsive and polite and reissued the box again right away along with a credit to my account. It's 3 days later ( email said it will go out in 24-48 hours) and the tracking number still says it has not been picked up just like the last 2 boxes.
Reading other reviews u see this is a recurring issue. I think I'm done with Grove, I can find similar products elsewhere
Hi Trish, we're so sorry to hear about this frustrating experience. If you wouldn't mind sending us an email including your Grove account email at [email protected], we'd be happy to look into this and help troubleshoot. Thank you.
I seriously am OBSESSED with GROVE COLLABORATIVE. I was recommended this by my favorite true crime podcaster Stephanie Harlowe and I'm so glad I did. Total game changer. I really don't understand all of these bad reviews I'm seeing. Any time I've reached out to a customer service representative I'm helped basically immediately. The first box I had ordered had just said "PAID", so I texted an employee named Danica and she actually had the box be delivered the next day. I'm able to find discounts on things that would be twice the price at target, whole foods, Fry's, Safeway. I can't recommend this company enough. Thanks, GROVE!
Thanks for taking the time to share your positive experience, Megan! We've created Grove with maximum flexibility and are so happy to see that our services are working for you and your household.
I have been a Grove customer for about 2 years, maybe 3? It started off really great, especially once I got the hang of checking my products with "subscriptions" so I wouldn't keep getting things I didn't need restocked yet. It is super smooth now. The shipping is several days longer now than it used to be (maybe pandemic related with more online orders). However, my biggest complaint is that in the last several months, I have consistently had issues with items in my order either being missing or spilled. Once, the issue was fixed by an account credit. The next time, I got no response. And the most recent time, I didn't didn't bother reaching out because I had already reached out a few times recently and the product not included was a "free with $x order" product. Since I started with Grove, not receiving the free item with minimum purchase has happened multiple times. I would say Grove is great MOST of the time, but expect to frequently be missing items. Their customer service is also *usually* good, despite the nonexistent response recently with a leaking product (cap was not on all the way, and UPS had box upside down).
Hi Heather, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We're so sorry to hear your experiences have been anything less than amazing. If you wouldn't mind reaching out to [email protected] to provide your Grove account email, we'd be happy to help with any issues that weren't addressed. Thank you.
Please don't buy and certainly don't get the membership. Once you get in, there is literally no way out. I got my membership 4 months ago and tried canceling it 3 months ago. Surprise, you can't do it yourself and have to email customer care. I did it, they sent a link to do it, cancelled it then (4 step process and I thought I was done!). 3 months later, I get an email that "thank you for ordering these items" and $86 get deducted from my card automatically. Apparently, they didn't cancel my membership! I literally had to claim a dispute on my charge to get money back. I shouldn't have to go through all the hassles with no mistake of mine to get my own money back!
Hi Bhawna, we're sorry to hear about the experience you've had and we would be happy to help in any way we can. When you place your first order with Grove, you're enrolled in our flexible monthly shipments subscription and a free 60 day trial of our VIP membership. These are two separate aspects of our service and you're able to opt out of both after your first order. It looks like you canceled your VIP membership, however your flexible monthly shipments remained active which is why your recent order shipped. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] if you'd like us to review your correspondences with our team or if you need further assistance — we're always glad to help.
I was excited about these products and free gifts. Submitted a fairly large first order but noticed that some extras were added. Before checking out, I meticulously went through the lost and deleted items. I checked out and agreed to pay the $72. But then when it got the order email there were random items added that were not free, bringing my total up additional $20.
I called and immediately cancelled my trial membership and order. The scam nature of sneaking other items into my cart after check out didn't sit well with me.
Hi Andrea, we're very sorry to hear about the experience you've had with our service. When claiming one of our first order offers, your basket will include whichever set of free goodies you've chosen, as well as paid items we suggest that we think you may be interested in trying. These paid items can be removed by clicking the 'X' in the upper right-hand corner of each item. We just ask that each order meet a $29 minimum which helps us reduce our carbon footprint and packaging waste by ensuring we never ship a box with a small number of items. If you don't mind reaching out to us at [email protected], we'd be more than happy to review your order and do everything we can to turn this experience around for you. Thank you kindly.
Don't subscribe. Difficult to unsubscribe. Layers of commitment are not evident. Got a box of "gifts" which I did not ask for ($$$). After unsubscribing VIP, got another box of items I did not request. Then told I needed to also cancel monthly subscription. How many subscription levels are there? Felt entrapped.
Hi Diane, our apologies for any confusion about our recurring order service. As stated upon signing up, after you place your first order you'll be enrolled in two separate but optional services. You'll receive a free 60 day trial of our VIP membership, and will also be enrolled in flexible monthly shipments, which are a default setting that can also be turned off if you prefer to shop on an as-need basis. If you have any more questions about our services or would like assistance with fitting your account to your household's needs, please don't hesitate to reach out. You're always in control with Grove and we'd be happy to make sure our services meet your needs.
Grove has messed up my last THREE orders. 1st they sent and charged/sent me $75+ products I did not buy--had never bought. They sent me a shipping label and took it back, no charge--great (as it should be). Next month, sent me something else we did not order, they dropped the charge (apparently based on the previous stuff we did not order)--OK, that's fine. This month they offered a free gift if I ordered early. Which I did, but NO gift. Every month they auto stick stuff in our cart, and every month now we have to go through each item individually and unsubscribe, and save, so we don't get stiffed for items we did not order. Next month it will all be back in our cart and we'll have to delete everything all over again. For all this green talk they've actually expanded our household carbon foot print with returns/extra labor. What a hassle!
Hi Michael, we're so sorry to hear you've experienced some issues or confusion about our services. Grove's shipping settings default to process flexible monthly orders based on your previous shipments. The products generate into your cart from your Product Subscriptions, which can be edited to meet your home's needs, or removed altogether, and then any items that populated into your cart can be deleted after that. To ensure you're only receiving items you need, we'll send a few email reminders—one will send a week before your ship date, and another the day before. We're so sorry if those were missed. If you have any further questions about managing your account or orders, please don't hesitate to reach out. Our Grove Guides can be reached 7 days a week and are always happy to help.
