I went to Turbo Tax first and after putting in all my info they wanted me to pay$40. So I tried FreeTaxUSA and they said I would get $79 less. I can pay the $40 and still be $39 ahead. I think that Turbo Tax is a better deal!
I paid for state return, but it won't file the returns, It says I have unanswered questions, but I have been through it 5 times and there are no unanswered questions. Their instant help does not respond. I ve spent hours doing this answering all the questions and now I'm going elsewhere. No place to call and work this out. They just took my money and now won't file. Very angry and disgusted.

I was wondering where my refund was after a month and a half of waiting, so i logged in and the first thing I see is that my taxes had been rejected by the irs and i needed to resubmit and mail the taxes. Freetaxusa never sent me an email or a notification about this, i guess this is what one gets when you use cheapa$$ services...

An email is always sent to notify customers of their acceptance or rejection, unless it has been selected in the software to not get an email. Is it possible the email went to your junk mail or that it was selected not to get email updates? We are happy to hear you were able to sign into your account and get the update. In the future we recommend doing that within a couple days of filing. You can reach out to our Customer Support team from your account any time and we are happy to assist you.
They make up excuses why they cant give back the info, thats not listed in your account, that you gave in the first place. Hypocritical justifications to not do work. Do not use this service... they respond with everything I tried and had explained already, deflection!

Do not use free tax USA under any circumstances to file. You are better off filing your return with a druggy on the street for a crack rock.

The live chat explains how to tap menu for income to find easy attach info. It works once. But if you need to take a break. And go back to that method the tap menu income no longer contains attach 1099 MRC on it. This is no matter how many times you try this. Very annoying. And your e return will not go in without these attachments even tho your credit card has already been billed as if! More than annoying. Maybe no longer free Turbo has sent them a virus so you go to thinking Maybe you get what you pay for?

I filed my taxes with bad information from Freetaxusa.com. The IRS found errors so I thought I would check to see if I amended my return the problem be fixed. I used their amend process and low and behold it showed an error on the part of the IRS so I went ahead and purchased the amended return for an additional $15. After I paid, my return showed that the IRS was actually correct. So apparently Freetaxusa pulled some kind of software scam to get me to pay for something I didn't need. They refused to refund my money although I had proof it was their software and ignored any further emails I sent them. Stay clear of these crooks!

Just got a bill for $700 more than I paid, IRS says due to error in filing. Always used turbo tax before with no issues never owed more than return said. Already paid $400, not sure where the error is, entered all info correctly.

T use this site. I was supposed to get $141 in federal return. I got $69. Any they said call irs because I might have a debt. I called IRS and there is nothing I owed.
Plus it was supposed to be direct deposit they have my bank details.

I used FreeTaxUsa to file my tax return. Everything seemed perfect, a little too good to be true. And I think I was right. Forget the ads they keep pushing, and be very careful.
My tax return seemed successful and on the IRS website it was sent, but many weeks passed and I never received it, I know like me (initially) you're probably thinking, it can't be their fault.
However, I gave them access to the payment, to take out the money I paid for their "premium" service (also don't make this mistake it's pointless) and send the rest to me.
I tried asking them what could be wrong, but FreeTaxUSA failed to mention that their partner financial institution, TPG, who was collecting their payment, could have the money. FreeTaxUSA said they had no idea where my money could be.
I tried calling TPG, but they said my SSN was invalid and wouldn't connect me to an agent (I feel stupid now even giving it to them). I sent them a request and they've refused to respond for weeks.
Bottom line, my money is gone. This also happened in 2018 but I forgot thinking I did something wrong that year and I did it again.
Don't be like me, don't follow the ads. Pay a little somewhere else and get your money. I wish I saw their reviews before I gave them free money. Oh well.

This option allows a temporary bank account to be set up with Civista Bank, a division of TPG. The refund is sent to the IRS or state to process and then sent back to TPG and sent to you. This site is not updated. Other sites allow job related expense deductios for health workers this site do not. Stay away i don't know if they sell information. I paid 14.99 each for two states, federal deluxeversion is $6.99. They send email on 20th my tax was rejected for sill reasons the stae will only get paid on 24th. Now Iam late and they suggest I send manual return!

For several years in a row, I have used FreeTax and my wife has used TurboTax, and we don't quit until we come up with the same number. The interesting part is when we sit down and try to figure out our differences. Based on this I can say with certainty that FreeTaxUSA is better (and cheaper).
Having said that, FreeTaxUSA has some issues that I find almost unbelievable. Things like having to enter information from a single K-1 up to three times. And far too many times, if you don't click the little question mark to get more information about something, you'll enter a wrong value. Taking an example from the Colorado deductions page, this sounds very clear: "Enter your total charitable contributions made during 2021:". But it's not. If you clicked the question mark, you'd find out that they really meant "Enter your total charitable contributions made during 2021 AND NOT ALREADY DEDUCTED ON THE FEDERAL FORM:".

After spending about 6 hours entering data and trying to fix mistakes on TurboTax Premier (loyal TurboTax customer for over 10 years), with absolutely NO HELPFUL assistance from the telephone support I had to wake up at 7 a.m. to speak to, and paying $165 for a Federal and State return with errors that could not be fixed, I gave up. The good news is I went on FreeTaxUSA and did the whole thing easy peasy in about 2 hours. Free for Federal, $15 for State, free for Property Tax Refund (completes but does not file) and even a $7 dollar Deluxe add-on that provides in person support and Audit support if needed. So surprised to see this so poorly rated on this site.

For some reason this year Freetaxusa is holding refunds and not processing them in a timely manner. My refund was sent to them on 4/6 and I have yet to receive my money in my account. You charge all these fees to process through you and you don't issue refunds in a timely manner. Not sure what is going on with them this tax filing year.

Filed my 2021 taxes but could not file an amendment a week later. Will evidently have to file by mail-in. Also filed 2020 taxes... IRS rejected the entire filing citing I'm not eligible for ANYTHING FreeTaxUSA said I am eligible for. Now entering a fight with IRS because FreeTaxUSA says my refund is over $14k while IRS says 0. Is your software THAT far off? Appears your child tax credit calculations are bogus. Ok

Paid $14.95 for them to file a previous year 2018 state return. I waited a full year and they never did. They did submit other free returns on time, so I don't recommend paying for their service, ever.
Hello, Reginald. It sounds like you paid to prepare a prior year return on our software. While you can generally submit a current year return through e-filing, prior year returns cannot be e-filed. In order to file a prior year return, you would have needed to print it out and mail it in, according to the instructions provided on your account. If you have not done this yet, you may still do so. It seems simple enough. Fill in the box matching the box number from your W2. Somehow, this software has failed me every year since 2017. Now I owe state taxes from the last 5 years plus interest. 2019 I submitted my tax health insurance under 1095-A instead of 1095-C and I didn't get any of my stimulus checks or my tax returns since the beginning of the pandemic because of that. I lost a lot of money on Game Stop (GME) last year and freetaxusa says I should get some money back that the IRS doesn't agree with, so now I more again. Honestly, $#*! this site, I'm going to continue using it because it has all my documents for the last 5 years, but $#*! the IRS even more.

I sent a message to FreeTaxUSA's support, and they replied back saying my prior year's AGI can be entered after I entered my payment information and ordered my tax returns. I was a bit skeptical but followed their instructions, and it allowed me to enter my prior year AGI on literally the final step before it was filed. It would be a lot better for my peace of mind if I was allowed to enter my prior year AGI prior to ordering and paying.

In 2020, I filed my taxes with TurboTax. I wanted to switch to FreeTaxUSA for the 2021 tax year. However, there is no way for me to manually modify my 2020 AGI from the default which is 0. The FAQ isn't helpful at all, it only tells you how to find last year's AGI if you didn't file with FreeTaxUSA last year but it doesn't ever say how to enter it on FreeTaxUSA. I know my tax return will be rejected if I don't enter the correct 2020 AGI. It seems the only way to have a non-zero value for last year's AGI is if you did your taxes with them last year. That makes it literally impossible to switch from another tax preparer to this one.
Can't beat the price (free for federal, only $15.00 per state). I fully expected the website to function poorly because of the low cost, but I shocked to find out it works fantastically and is easier to get through than all the competitors who are charging hundreds of dollars for the same service. Great website that makes filing fast and easy.

Answer: Hi Janet, sorry for any confusion. The $12.95 fee is for state tax return preparation whether the tax return is e-filed or printed and mailed. In regard to your difficulty paying. When you make a debit or credit card purchase online, the card processor checks with your bank or credit card issuer to first make sure you have enough available credit to complete the purchase. The card processor then makes sure the other information you input (for instance, your address) matches what your bank has on record. If all is well, the transaction is processed. If not, such as an address that doesnt match, then the transaction is declined. If you were having difficulty with each card, I would recommend double checking the billing information you entered on FreeTaxUSA. If thats all correct, I would contact your bank and make sure the information they have on file is up-to-date.
