Serious glitch
October 22, 2015

I have filed my taxes and my husband for years. Never a problem, but now the state is after me and my husband for 2012, 2013, 2014. I enter what is on our W'2's and they calculate the rest including my state. Has anyone else had this problem? Were talking thousands of dollars.

I would give ZERO stars if it was an option. Filed a return in 2013, I now need access to the file but their system keeps kicking me out even though I have entered ALL the correct info. I have gone back and worth via e-mail and they STILL will not let me access MY information(I doubt their server was big enough, so they did a dump). They do not have a telephone number. This kind of activity doesn't seems legit and I am reporting them to the attorney general, BBB, and news outlets.,

I keep sending them emails and they can't telephone you. They are jerks. They don't help you when there is an error. They keep making more errors. I think this company is lame.

Hi Dorian, that is an unusual problem. Customer support will be in a much better position to help you with this. It would be best if you sign into your account and send in a support issue from there. That will help support answer questions specific to your account. You said you can still access the site with your phone, correct? You can also contact them by sending an email to [email protected].

We have had filing refused. I don't know if it is id theft. I had put my name first instead of my husband, so I amended form now I cannot log in. It asks questions I don't think was part of my profile. I have tried login in with my ss and then my husbands. I can't get anywhere. I can't log into the site.

I can't log in using where I lived at 12 and my #'s nor can my husband. I need someone to change the where we lived at 12. I am sure I was asked other questions too.

It keeps sending a temporary password but it will not take any of the information like SS or security questions. I would like to simply know if it was filed refused or what and get a refund if not

Stay away
April 15, 2015

I completed my federal tax, but after I paid to have state taxes filed, an error pops up stating I can not efile... but it only happened after I paid. It seems that once they get your money, then you're off looking for stamps and envelope. It totally defeated the purpose. Forget calling, I couldn't even get through. Since they can't keep their end of the bargain, why don't they put your money back on your card, since you didn't get the service you were promised.

Hi Jea, as a company we have e-filed millions of tax returns with the IRS. Unfortunately, not all tax returns can be e-filed and must be mailed. The fee associated for state returns is for the preparation of state forms and if e-filing is available, it is included at no extra cost. We apologize for any confusion and hope to see you next year.

NO PHONE SUPPORT!
April 10, 2015

Well everything seemed to be going smoothly but have an issue with my return and need some help, I paid extra for priority support only to find out that means that your issue will be dealt with by email with in 24 hours. I can see now this was a big mistake to even consider doing a tax return with an online company that provides absolutely no quick answer to even the simplest question by phone support. I will never use them again.

Hi Keith, we generally answer customer questions in much less than 24 hours (usually within the hour). Complex questions may take longer to research; easier questions can be answered in considerably less time. When you purchase the Deluxe Upgrade, your question is placed at the front of the line and is answered before the other questions in the queue. If you still have concerns about the speed of our customer support responses, we invite you to login and post a question to customer support, you might be surprised how quickly you receive an answer.

Federal Taxes went fine. Wouldn't let me e-file State taxes until paying first (no prob there), After paying, it said there was an error on the W-2 (a box that should have a ZERO instead of being blank). Since I had already filed Federal, it wouldnt let me change that box! Said I would have to mail instead. Cust service refused to refund, saying I paid for the service they offered! So tell me all is good, pay them, then tell me there's a problem?!?! Scammed me outta 13 bucks. Went and e-filed on the state site for free. Took 10 minutes. What a rip off...

About over charge
April 1, 2015

I have used this site to do all my
Family for 5 years but this year they would charge me sometimes twice for one return.

Date of experience: April 1, 2015
Sam S. — FreeTaxUSA Rep
over a year old

Hi Virginia, whenever a payment is submitted, the charge is automatically pre-authorized by the credit card company. This charge shows up as a "pending" charge on your bank account. If the credit card company ends up declining your payment for some reason, then that charge will not be fully processed and the pending charge will go away within a few business days. It is possible to have a charge rejected and then retry and have it accepted which could look like a duplicate charge for a few days. If you still have an extra charge showing on your statement, please contact our customer support and we will be happy to remove it. [email protected]

Has Always Worked for Me!
February 27, 2015

Free Tax USA is great. I believe I've been using this for approx 10 years for myself as well as filing it for six other family members. I just helped my daughter with hers & I was so amazed that both State & Federal were accepted within 30 minutes. That was the 1st time ever that acceptance was received that quickly. Hers was not a simple situation, with many dependents as well deductions. Also within a week both State & Federal refunds were deposited. It is 14.95 or so for the state only. One still needs to learn about the process a bit & not just depend on the website to walk you through it. I have never used the deluxe edition which is only $5.95... that's a great price for those who don't have much experience with filing their own taxes.

This is a SCAM!
February 25, 2015

It says "File Free Federal Income Tax!" and under it says "State Income Tax Only $12.95!". So I fully intend to file a free federal tax and no state tax. But, after you finish typing in all the info from the W-2 forms and give them all your information for federal tax, they start asking questions about your federal tax. Then you go to support and THEN they inform you that you MUST file a state tax to file your "free" federal tax. They make no mention of this before you start inputting the data. They figure that you will just fork over the $12.95 in order to avoid going to a REAL e-file site and entering it all over again. Well I will be entering all the info again on another site, I refuse to pay them as this is false advertising. I will be reporting this to the IRS and Better Business Bureau and I encourage others to do the same thing.

Hi John, sorry for any confusion. Just to clarify a state return is not required to file a free federal return. We have filed millions of completely free federal returns without requiring the state to be purchased. The software does require you to enter the information for your state return but you can opt out of buying the state return on the checkout screens. The state return is completely optional to purchase.

As far as support saying you must file a state tax return in order to file your free federal tax return, there must have been a misunderstanding. It's true that you must file a free federal return before filing a state return, but you are under no obligation to file a state return using our software. Many people choose to file their state return because of the convenience and value, but again it's not required.

Turbo Tax 2014 is not what 2013 was. I have been reviewing complaints on the major services (?) prior to selecting this one (re: "turbo tax complaints" as search line). All of the problems of each are significant if you're the one in pain. Been there with turbo for 2012. Each company has huge numbers of returns processed with insignificant numbers of complaints online.

The type of complaints have taken me to select freetaxusa for 2014.

CT and Federal return e-filing can be confirmed and refund processing can be tracked online. You may not immediately see that success has been achieved as daily computer files need to be merged with the main files first. This prev took about two days.

CT maintains a wonderful telephone help service during the day in the boiler (type) room of their tax bldg. I do not believe there has ever been a wait time. US SERVICE PERSONNEL are encouraged to call so as to get all their credits.

Tell em Jim says Hi!

We have used freetaxusa.com for 8 years now. It conveniently remembers all of our information from year to year so everything is ready to go. This year, I actually used my cell phone to complete our taxes, and I was finished in less than 15 minutes! I can hardly believe that places like H & R block are still in business. I finished my taxes faster than the time it would take me to even drive to my nearest H&R. The IRS sent emails, from both federal and state, saying that my return was accepted within 4 hours of processing them. Each year, our refunds arrive within 7 days and I expect no less this year. I love this user friendly site... it makes filing taxes a piece of cake!

They save your info from last year and let you use it this year without holding it hostage for money! I just filed my taxes for the second year in FreeTaxUsa. They saved all of my info from last year, pre-filled family info, employer info, mortgage bank info, etc. All I had to do is go in and make updates to income, mortgage interest, etc. Saved a ton of time in data entry.

They didn't just transfer my last year's info to show me how easy it would be to to have everything pre-filled, then hold the info hostage if I didn't agree to buy a higher priced product like some other tax preparation software companies. They just let me use my own information. Another thing they allowed me to do that SOME OTHER tax preparation software companies wont allow me to do is file a 1099-misc. For non-employee income for free instead of $50! I love this and have told everybody I know.

I also paid this company to file my state return instead of going straight to the state website like I normally did. It was a fair price, and I appreciate their business practices enough to pay them. Frankly, I wouldn't mind paying them a small fee for federal filing either.

I love this website

I love this website. I started using it when I was 18 and had no idea how to do taxes. It really helps you step by step. I also like how it saves your information from last year so it really saves time. I've never had a problem and will definitely be using it again this tax season.

I have used them for the past 4 years. I used to be a dedicated h&r blocker, but they charged more for the same service. Mind you, i have not ever needed customer service for any of them, but i have NEVER had a problem filing or getting a very timely return.
My only complaint would be that sometimes when they tell you to fix a problem, you dont know exactly what needs to be fixed.
They import my information from year to year and for me, thats the best part! Easy!
