This site will give you nightmares. It WAS NOT free. I had a very simple return to file as we are retired. I had to use the 1040 form to claim a slot win in CT where they took out taxes. On this form, we had Social Security income, the slot income and two weeks worth of unemployment pay. For this, they charged us $40.00. I have tried to get back on the site to get a copy of our return, but can not log in. They have no phone number to call, yet they claim 24 hour service. This site is a rip-off that is a link provided by our government. More of the "change" we were expecting?

This site is horrible! I was first told (one week after submitting) that my return was accepted by the IRS. I continuously checked and 2 1/2 weeks out still received the same message. I checked again 3 days later (3 weeks total now) that my return was rejected by the IRS THE DAY AFTER I INITIALLY SUBMITTED IT!

I would steer clear of this site and I am actually hoping this site is not just another scam to get personal information because they've got it all and have done nothing for me except delay my receipt of funds I need to pay my bills. I now have to start the whole filing process all over again.

THE IRS SHOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SITE AND NO ONE EXPECTING THEIR RETURN TO BE DONE CORRECTLY SHOULD USE IT!

Terrible! Do Not Use! Since this was a link from the IRS.gov website I assumed it would be reliable. I was wrong.

I went through the process and logged off. A few minutes later, for no reason, I went back on, or tried to. I could not log on, they led me on wild goosechase to get my password or id, claiming that that is why I couldn't log on. When they "gave" me my password it was blank. No phone number, no way to contact them. Terrible.

Do not use this website! I thought everything was going well until the date my refund was due to be deposited into my account came and went. Now, the IRS is saying they are mailing my refund although I clearly chose to have it electronically deposited. I thought maybe (but doubtful) that I chose to have it mailed so I went back to the free1040taxreturn.com website to review and print my return and YOU CANNOT PRINT YOUR RETURN OR EVEN VIEW WHAT YOU ENTERED! OMG WHAT A NIGHTMARE. Now, I am in limbo not having access to my already filed return and not knowing if I will ever get my refund or even be able to print it out. BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE!

BEWARE! Do not use this site for anything! I have been having problems from the beginning to the end with this site. The software is not user friendly and is hard to interpet. You cannot print your tax forms. They will not respond to your emails or messages and you cannot Log back into to your account. Totally disappointed with this site. It has to be the worst tax site there is. And what is really scary is that the IRS has this site listed on their web page!

This is one of the sites listed on the IRS website. Worst customer service I have experienced in years. Carmen seems to be the only one responding to your questions and she rarely has any concrete answers for you. I highly recommend using another site for filng. In my opinion the IRS and your State should have free filing sites why pay for something they should be providing us for free. I filed my federal return on Jan 14th through free1040taxreturn.com and it went through to the IRS just fine but for a week Carmen at contact us has had nothing but excuses about the site's pdf system being down so you cannot print a hard copy of your return. This has to be the worst site out there. Before you use this site I recommend paper filing. The site does allow you to do your returns but beware free 1040 even after clciking no to filing the state did not register as no and charged me anyway on top of printing problems. Today is Sunday, Jan. 23,2011 and still no PDF printing.

You can't log back in to print out your taxes if you need to in the future. I logged back in to print after buying a new printer cartridge, buy not all of my forms were available... most importantly the 1040 ez. This made my life miserable when I went to apply for my student loans. I emailed their customer service "tax questions" area over and over again until my forms magically showed back up after about 15 complaints. They never emailed me back or called to apologize or acknowledge that they were at fault.

After reading other's complaints online, I decided the next year to try to login to see if I could access my forms since I now suspected the site to be a scam. I typed in my social security number and password. The system didn't recognize my information, which I thought was weird since I just filed the year before. Then somehow after navigating here and there on the site I was able to find the files to print. Very strange. All I can say is that the website isn't put together that great and doesn't have a logical flow.

This is the worst "free" file site I have ever used. Customer service only provides generic answers, there is no email address to contact them, no phone number, nothing! They charge 39.00 bucks to file state taxes, and hardly ever update their site! There were server errors, the site was not in operation for several days, it pretty much sucks! The software is NOT user friendly and difficult to interpet. I filed complaints against them with the BBB and am awaiting a reply, which I am sure will never happen. DON'T USE THIS SITE for your taxes!

Extremely dissapointed in the function of software. Difficult to use and when I went back to check status of return, kept recieving message "no account exists for this SSN". Managed somehow to get back to my account, onl; y find both federal and state returns were rejected due to lack of proper e-signature, even though I followed directions for getting PIN. I tried logging in again to revise return, but could not. No phone number nor could I use their email account since I could not log in. I was charged $39.95 on my credit card for the State return and could not file. I did print out the return which was not on a form, so I had to manually transcribe to paper forms and file both Fed and State through the mail 1 day before tax deadline. This site should be investigated and those responsible prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I filed my brother's tax return in January since it was a simple return. The IRS did not receive it. You cannot call them and even though it says free customer service, there is a section that states you have to pay to speak to someone. Maybe they never filed it because I did not pay to file the state return with them. He received his refund from the State already. They will not respond to emails either. Will never use them again.

free1040taxreturn.com is a BIG ripoff-DON'T USE IT! - First, it's not FREE... nothing on it is free so the web name is totally fradulent. They charged my debit card for $24.95, unauthorized! When I sent an email to inquire... they said it was for "audit protection"... when I try to go into their site and enter all my info for a refund, I keep getting emails back that says I didn't state the reason... totally bogus. (I have kept a copy of these emails for proof) I also entered everything for my federal and state returns... but they never filed my state taxes... they said it was because I didn't file both at the same time... that is incorrect (their software is poorly written by the way). I asked SEVERAL times for a refund for my state... can't seem to get a straight answer. They also won't send emails to my email account (so they can't be detected)... you have to login to their site... no phone numbers or live people are available. DON'T USE THIS SITE FOR YOUR TAXES!
