I had an extremely disappointing experience with TAP Air Portugal, and I feel it's important to warn other travelers — especially those booking with non-European cards. On July 7th, 2025, I purchased a ticket through the TAP website. The total amount was clearly displayed and confirmed in British pounds (GBP) — exactly £4,142.90. There was no mention of any alternative currency or additional charges. However, once the payment was processed, I noticed that the amount had actually been withdrawn in U.S. dollars, not GBP — and at a terrible exchange rate, resulting in a loss of more than $240 due to hidden conversion fees. I was completely unaware of this switch, and it happened without any consent or warning — and even the official receipt provided by TAP shows the amount in GBP, not USD. There was no indication anywhere during the booking or payment process that the final charge would be in a different currency. When I contacted TAP's customer support and provided all booking details and documentation, their response was simply: "It's not our responsibility. The payment processor or your bank handles the currency." This is completely unacceptable. It's TAP's website that showed and confirmed the total in GBP. It's TAP's system that allowed the charge to go through in a different currency without my knowledge. And it's TAP that ultimately profited from this lack of transparency — either through commission or through negligence. I was given no option to opt out, no warning. Had I known I'd be charged in USD, I would have paid with a different card or booked elsewhere. This kind of deceptive pricing and blame-shifting shows a serious lack of integrity. I've since discovered that many other customers have experienced the same issue with TAP. If they're aware of this flaw — and do nothing to fix it — then it's not a bug, it's a business model. If you're booking with TAP and not using a card from the Eurozone, be very careful. You may end up paying far more than expected, with zero recourse. I will never fly with TAP again, and I strongly advise others to avoid them as well — unless you want to gamble with your money and be left without support when something goes wrong.

After I foundout that TAP canceled my flight in December for an April flight ( they did not even notify me of the cancellation but I found out on my own), I was told that I would get a full refund directly on my credit card. The next day they sent me a voucher. In a follow up call, they stated that a voucher could only be redeemed for cash if I gave them my bank info for direct deposit. After setting up a separate bank account for this refund, they have still not given me a refund. Repeated calls to management tell me that they cannot do anything for me as only the refund team can issue a refund and they do not have any contact info. I have even wrote several email complaints and everything has gone unanswered. NEVER use them as they have lied during this process and have never refunded their money. Who knows that may cancel your flight and never tell you until you try to check in.

Airline NOT RECOMMENDED!
A voucher was agreed to 120% of the purchase price if I do not reclaim the purchase amount. Instead I got two vouchers for 15% of the purchase price, and in SEK instead of euros. I have filed a complaint and have been waiting 4 weeks. When you call customer service, you have to wait about 45 minutes and you are informed that you have to file a complaint. Then you can wait weeks, if not months, for an answer. I read other people´s vouchers are not Valid, or not accepted because of the difference Currency they are getting with their vourchers.

We had our TAP flight cancelled on us last minute without warning back in Aug. TAP employees gave to reason and zero information on what to do next. We were handed a card with an email address on it and were sent on our way. We managed to get to our connecting flight in another city after a 6 hour taxi ride which cost a fortune. Once there we were denied access to that flight as well, being told that the flight was full and we couldn't board. After hours of pleading our case and describing the nightmare of a day we already had to deal with thanks to this airline, we were finally able to board our flight. Once on the flight I counted 11 empty seats in our section alone... this flight was no where near full. We finally landed in Toronto and once there we were notified that this poor excuse for an air line also lost our luggage...
Needless to say this was hands down my worst travel experience ever and the TAP staff was zero help!

Now I have been home for over 4 months and TAP has yet to reimburse us a cent yet. I call, email, and message daily, but just as the staff in the airports and on their planes, all they do is give you a vague answer to contact another department or party and pass you on. This company is criminal, the worst customer service ever, they do not care about any of their passengers...

Stay away from this airline! Bunch of crooks!

Watch out for baggage fees
September 22, 2017

Yes, it was my fault that I didn't check their baggage policies before I booked with them. I get that. When we showed up t the counter it just seemed quite out of control that they were going to charge me 80 a bag. Ok, that hurt. So on the return flight I tried to pay for my bags up front. Their website was no help. I put in my confirmation code and they did not give me the option to get extra luggage. I called customer service. Twice. On hold for 30 minutes both times. The flight was good nothing to complain about there but if you have to deal with their customer service good luck. Calculate180 euros extra on the flight if you want a bag for you and your partner. If you pay at the airport ad another 180 on top of that. Might be just better to fly a different carrier.
