I only recently started using this site. I gave them three chances.
Every single order had flawed cuts (grease marks or snagged knits) and one of them even attempted to substitute something else other than what was ordered (white suiting for stretch mesh - really?)
On the last order, I requested a replacement with the correct fabric. The customer service indicated that it was "out of stock" even though it appeared to be in stock on the site. She said UPS would pick up the wrong fabric... They never came.
I have repeatedly asked for a refund, and all I got was banned from the site.
Ok! I get it! It's discount, cheap fabric. But, they should be up front about what they are selling and not claim that it's something else. They advertised charmeuse, and described it as very lightweight and appropriate for blouses, skirts, and lingerie. I will agree that charmeuse is appropriate for all those purposes, but what they sent me was cheap, heavy, costume satin. It was VERY stiff and VERY loud when touched. Plus, it was "seconds" in that it had red spots on it that were very noticeable. Definitely not buying from them again.
I ordered some fabric for the first time from Fabric.com. The order was processed and a charge was made to my credit card. Then I got a form-type email saying the fabric was out of stock. After a few days they did take the charge off of my card. So, why did I order from them? I just wasted my time. (At the time I placed the order, the fabric.com site was listing the fabric as being in stock, but evidently it wasn't) I won't order from them again.
I ordered fabric swatches before ordering the fabric I wanted. The order confirmation email said I would receive an email when the swatches shipped. A week after placing my order, I had still not received any shipment information, so I called customer service. The rep was very helpful, but said the swatches "still hadn't shipped" but she would call the warehouse to make sure they shipped that day. Swatches arrive (two weeks after being ordered) and I order my fabric. I received the order confirmation, and then three days later I received another email saying my order was being cancelled because the fabric was out of stock. Whaaaat?! How could I receive an order confirmation only to then be told my fabric was out of stock? I called again and again the customer service rep was helpful, but said orders take 2-3 days to process, plus the website does not update in real time! So someone else must have ordered the same fabric "just a few moments before" I placed my order. I find it hard to believe that conveniently, someone else wanted the same fabric that I did.
I live in an area where it's difficult to get fabric of any type. But I will not be setting myself up for disappointment again by ordering from fabric.com.
I wish I had seen this site and the fabric.com reviews before ordering - I would have saved myself a LOT of disappointment.
And I only gave one star because I couldn't give zero.
Low prices are nice, but not when you have poor service & are unable to receive what you ordered. After four days of no emails telling me it had shipped, I called. Going out today they said. Later that night I received an email saying I had ordered 14 yards but they only had 13- yes, I replied please send that. Two days go by nothing and I call again. It's going out today. Next day still no email that it shipped I called again. Hmmm not sure why it didn't ship, but it's going out today- with no apologies or concern. And guess what, I just got an email saying they are down to 9 yards now. Cancel order! Shop your local store and try to catch a sale- this site is awful!
After reading many of the negative reviews, I was very hesitant to order from here. But the truth be told is that there aren't very many good fabric stores online (and I scoured online for awhile), and I suppose that might've been because of larger online stores like Fabric.com running smaller boutiques out of business? Anyways, I digress.
I went ahead and placed an order when a 25% off coupon came up, just because they had some fabric I really really liked, and I honestly could not find any comparable fabrics online in terms of price and design. Not to mention that I find Fabric.com's website is much more manageable to navigate compared to other fabric shops sites.
It did take awhile, but I wasn't in a rush to receive it - I usually don't pay for rush orders and try to order things ahead of time. Everything came as expected, the fabric was folded up neatly in plastic bags shipped within a box, and the colors and designs were accurate to what I saw in the pictures on their website.
So overall, I had a pretty pleasant experience, though I want to note that I am just a small-time hobbyist (I was just buying draperies fabric, enough for two windows) and I don't need to order large amounts of fabric and rely on the orders for business purposes. I also have not had to deal with their customer support system seeing as nothing was wrong with my order.
I would probably go back to them for any of my future fabric project needs though only with a coupon or sale price and if they had a fabric I absolutely adored.
It may be cheaper to go to a local fabric store, but I really enjoy the convenience of getting a wide variety of fabric that can be delivered to your door.
I wish I had searched out reviews FIRST instead of checking after to see if it was just me who had such a terrible time with this company. Ridiculously bad experience resulting in rude customer service people, incorrect charges in their favor, and more than a week of wasted time for a very simple project with a tight deadline - and ultimately no product. Never again.
Completely unethical business, save yourself time and money and stay away! They illegally charged me!
Worst company I have ever dealt with and worst customer service I have experienced. Every time I called about wrong orders the reps were friendly but never apologized or care that my orders were wrong. Have ordered a total of 6 times with this company and out of those 6 times my order has been wrong 4 times! My last order arrived and was missing SEVEN of the items I had ordered. Called the company who sent out another package but when that arrived it was missing an item. Finally called the company and just got a refund for the items I was still missing! SO frustrating and unprofessional is this company that I will NEVER order from them again. On top of everything that is already frustrating when you order from this company they take a week to process and then its another week for transit times so its already two weeks before you get your order from the time you purchased. Then if its wrong, which it always is, its another two weeks for them to send the replacement. If your thinking about ordering from this company expect a month or two until it arrives and allot of hassle before you get the actual product you want!
I used to order from Fabric.com with confidence - only one time in 3 years were they out of something and I know it would be close because of the stock on-hand. But three out of my last three orders had fabrics out of stock. They need to upgrade something.
11/30/15 - I have made three purchases since the review and they all arrived within two weeks and no issues with out of stock.
4/25/16 - I have made three more purchases and they seem to have the bugs worked out.
2017 - perfect every time - moved it to a 5 star!
It took a while to get my sample (I live in Australia). I think the original one was lost in the post, but they resent it as soon as I queried. When I ordered the fabric itself, it only took only10 days from ordering to delivery - just fabulous.
After they have shipped out my order THREE times, it is still incorrect. You would think a place that sells fabric would KNOW HOW TO MEASURE FABRIC! Shorted me every time and they LIE, LIE, LIE to you telling you it is shipped when it is not. Believe me and all the other reviewers when we say it is not worth the few dollars you might save for the hassle of shopping here.
After my order did not arrive in what I considered a timely fashion, I called and was informed they had cancelled my order and issued a refund. They never issued a refund. I paid through my Amazon account. Amazon attempted to contact Fabric.com and got nowhere. Finally Amazon was so nice about it that they gave me a credit on my Amazon account. I was so disappointed not to get the fabric, and Amazon had to "eat" their mistake.
While they advertise low prices if you choose to order less than a full yard of fabric the advertised price per yard will be increased 75% to calculate your half yard price. Many quilt patterns require many less than full yard cuts of various fabric. I find that a shop that forces me to buy more than I need in order to take advantage of their pricing is a shop that is taking advantage of me. Over the past 3 days I have purchased 26 yards of fabric--none of it from fabric.com. There are hundreds of online fabric shops with better prices, faster shipping and stellar customer service. Search for them.
Takes FOREVER to get your order. I order from the them a lot because they do have a good selection that I cannot get locally, BUT, you must place your order with a LOT of time before you start your project. I have had orders take almost 3 weeks to get here. I am in Nebraska. Middle of the US. I am waiting for swatches right now. I placed the swatch order EIGHT days ago. Not even processed yet.
This company rates extremely poor with me for customer service, timely response/follow-up and items in stock. I placed an order and was not contacted until a FULL WEEK later to tell me that what I ordered was not available--funny thing is they had time to charge my credit card! NEVER AGAIN.
As soon as iI placed sn order realized it was wrong and tried to cancel. Well you can't cancel online. Being it was Sunday and a long weekend could not get anyone on the phone. I sent an email saying i wanted to cancel and the answered on Tues. Saying it was too late that it had slready gone to shipping. I was outraged and the customer service said she would credit my account. But didnt. It shipped. And again called and this person worse than the first. She said to put on porch and UPS would pick it up. They did. Then recvd email saying I needed a return ship label. Long story short i was finally given a credit minus all shipping costs. Terrible attitude and terrible policies. NEVERZ again.
My most recent experience has been very costly. I was notified that an item was out of stock (when I ordered it stock levels were 55 yards) so I asked for the remainder of the order to be sent. I was refunded for the fabric but not the difference in shipping. My order was 20 yards less without the out of stock item. So I paid $82 shipping for 9 yards (I am in Australia) which usually costs $33. They've admitted to an error an offered me $10 store credit?! The responses I get are that postage is computer calculated and that this doesn't fit into their criteria for a refund.
International Customers beware! If an item is out of stock best to cancel the whole order because they can't be trusted to adjust shipping accurately.
The 2-3 day order processing time is a myth be prepared to wait 5-7 business days before they ship.
Their prices are practically unbeatable however but it's at the sacrifice of customer service.
90% of my transactions with Fabric.com are smooth and hassle free. Provided items are in stock and shipped via UPS (who are the best courier company I've ever dealt with).
One and a half star out of five. They did help me apply a coupon code, which I appreciate. BUT my order took over 3 weeks, 19 emails, and a phone call to arrive, and still not correct. First they emailed me 4 days after my original order to let me know an item was out of stock. I chose 2 less-expensive substitute items that added up to the original price. Then, 9 MORE days after that, I received an email that a second item was out of stock. I chose another substitute. They informed me that the item I had originally ordered, that had gone out of stock before they had shipped it, had gone on sale. They would not allow me to choose a replacement for the original price I had been billed. I finally told them to refund me the (sale) price and not do a replacement. When the order arrived I found one of the items was missing and the second item had some extra yardage included (which I was charged for). When I emailed them they told me the missing item "was not placed on your order for a substitution" and that the price had been refunded to me, no explanations. Never again.
If you can afford three months to assemble all the fabric you need for a project this is your place. Apparently placing an order and paying for it means nothing. The chances are 50-50 what you ordered is out of stock. And when they do come up short they give you 24 hours to decide what to do. So you either have to order a color in the blind or pay for the shipping on a follow up order.
It's about the worst customer interface I've ever dealt with. If you buy a certain yardage shouldn't the computerized inventory place that on reserve for you?
Answer: Hawthorne Threads is great.
Answer: Im using them for almost a year but no more... they keep sending me 25 % discount almost every week to gain me back... NO WAY! Yeah i order atleast 2,000 each order... total loss for them... until now they still awe me money for the fleece fabric i order long time ago, when i order it it has 50 yards of it, after 10 days they gonna tell me its out of stock, waited for replacement, until now no replacement... i got a lot of horrible experience with this company,,, dirty fabric that looks like somebody use it to rub on their body... really really sucks!
Answer: My business is making curtains. I have dealt with this company for the past two years and I think the customer service department is doing the best they can with trying to making it look like the company has it together. They do not have it together at all. There is no excuse with the volume of business that they do that they cannot afford a system that can tell you immediately an item is out of stock. I cannot tell you how many times I have purchased fabric from this company only to learn three days later that it is not in stock. Then they hold the rest of your order for another three to four days after you answer an email telling them to continue to ship the rest of the order. I have had fabric arrive to me balled up in a box that they didn't even bother to put in a bag, I have had fabric with shoe prints on it in the middle of the bolt or pieces of fabric missing from a ten yard order that were cut out of the middle of the ten yards. I am trying to eventually not use this company at all anymore as they don't have a clue as to how to treat customers or just don't care. The only problem is they have run all of the mom and pop online fabric stores out of business with lower prices (this was maybe two years ago) and the smaller businesses couldn't keep up with them so they closed. Now that they have the market they have raised their prices because they have very little competition out there. If you leave a good review for this company you are one in a million that have had a pleasurable experience. Just because you bought from them once and don't have a complaint means nothing, consider yourself lucky.
Answer: It's a US website, so they'll take the money in US dollars, but if they take orders from Australia your bank or payment processor will have to convert the currency according to the current exchange rate and I think they may also charge a fee for doing this.
Answer: Thank you so much for your inquiry. Please feel free to send your contact information to [email protected], and I would be more than happy to forward it to the appropriate people.
Answer: You would have been better off contacting fabric.com directly. It doesn't look like they even know about this website.
Answer: I would call or email them, including as much detail as you can... order #, what fabrics were ordered and approximately the time of the order. Have never had this happen to me from Fabric.com, have from another online site and was lucky that I got the help I needed. Good Luck.
Answer: As a customer of theirs, almost an ex-customer of theirs at this point, I can honestly say they have made absolutely no changes for the better in my case. They have paid absolutely no attention to any of my issues with them, which is why I'm about to become a former customer.
