What a RIP OFF

Opened a shop and was doing good first week there, etsy decides I am making to much money and holds 75% of my funds and no real explanation to why except your sales are high. Huh? Isn't that what every successful seller wants and they definitely took there listing fees as well as there commission off every sale as soon as it sold. A few weeks later my store closes by them and no explanation, email implies they do not need to explain or offer a reason and my money is now on hold for 6 months! Again they took there fees and there commission all sales delivered and positive reviews. My buyers even followed me to another sell app and still buy from me. There emails forbid you to share there copy and pasted wording they have given to all shops that close. Many good sellers on there and there money in the high thousands even is on hold and not sure if they will receive, again showing items all delivered. Too many good selling apps that won't steal your money, look elsewhere. I have been a seller for over 25 years and this company is a disgrace and sure if you look around the internet can see many have the same complaint as I do.

I've ordered from Etsy now a few times and I have never had an issue. This last purchase, I ordered 100 velcro patches, but they didn't come as described and so I wanted to return them so I reached out to the seller from the Etsy shop and they advised me that they would not offer any kind of shipping reimbursement because they aren't the ones with the issue I am. So this company that I ordered from didn't send me what I ordered so yes of course it's my issue but as the company who sold me the product it's kind of their issue also. And so I went to Canada Post and I returned these items and paid out of pocket for the shipping return ($35) I then sent them a copy of the receipt for the shipping and a picture of the package itself with the shipping address and my return address. So here is the catch, because I went with ground shipping instead of tracked shipping which would have cost me $75 out of pocket I won't be reimbursed for anything. So now the store that I bought from gets to keep the $350 that I spent on the patches and they get the patches back and I lose $350 all because I made the mistake of trusting Etsy to run a legit business. I'm truly shocked that Etsy runs their business this way and that they allow companies to essentially steal from their customers. A tough lesson for me to learn but at least I know not to shop there ever again. My recommendation is just to stick with Amazon and other well-known stores because Etsy takes no accountability for when their individual shops make mistakes. If this were Amazon I'd already have been reimbursed.

Great quality

I was a little skeptical of the time frame and wondered if it would arrive in time for my daughter's birthday. She loved the shirt as well as the one I got for myself. My customers have asked and now I can give them what they are looking for. Will be ordering more in the future.

Etsy's website is easy to use, a lot of options to chose from, and something for everyone. I've only shopped for house plants, which was a disappointment. I've purchased from two sellers and the plants were beautiful. The problem is that they weren't rooted good, just cuttings. After following their directions with repotting, they started yellowing and eventually died. Money wasted, so I'm done with ordering plants from Etsy.
Even so, I'm still browsing for other items.

I've shopped on Etsy several times. For people who don't know, it's marketplace of thousands of sellers. I buy gifts for my daughter, as she's a huge beauty fan but she's vegan, and it's sometimes hard to find products that are cruelty free and vegan. I've had great results with the sellers I've shopped. However, be careful with clothing. I bought myself a few t-shirts, and one was only in men's sizes. I got a larger size, as I didn't know if it would shrink. It was a large and I barely got it over my head. And it wasn't worth returning, so next time I'll be more careful.
I've also started making candles. I bought some scents to add to them. I ordered I think 6 different oils. Only 3 came. I wrote to the seller, and after 3 months I gave up and wrote to customer service. I got a refund very quickly.
So. Overall, I like the site. And I will continue to use them, especially for beauty products.

Etsy has become a site for resellers, retail and mass produced items. Shops that sell 100's per day to 1,000's of items per month are flooding the site. And this is exactly what Etsy wants since it brings them the most revenue. The small individual crafters and artisans items are being drowned out in search. I'm a seller of a home handmade item I make myself. I started selling on Etsy in 2012 and my sales increased every year with 2018 being my best. Then in June of 2019 Josh Silverman ( Etsy's CEO) announced that Etsy would be cutting back on Google Ads in an effort to get sellers to pay for more ads. Since I had never paid for ads and was getting all the sales I cared to make I didn't feel I needed them. That's when my sales crashed and continue to drop. My sales for the second half of 2019 were 23% of the same period for the previous year and continue to drop. Coincidence, I think not. And this was all before COVID-19. I feel it's like racketeering, "now that you've become successful, if you want to stay successful you will have to pay more". When Etsy didn't get the participation they wanted with sellers volunteering to pay for more ads they implemented the Off-Site Ad program. For all shops that have ever sold more than $10K in any 365 day period an additional 12% fee for every sale Etsy brought them through a Google, Instagram, Facebook etc ad. Shops under $10K an additional 15% with an option to opt out. I opted out but I'm getting no sales. It is obvious to me that if I don't agree to pay into the program I'm dead in the water. The fee is in addition to the the already 5% sale fee. That's 17-20% not counting the 3% processing fee. The fee is on the entire total ( item price + sales tax + shipping). For some when it is figured against the item price only it can be as much as 25-30% or more. You may want to consider this before selling on Etsy. My item is time consuming to make and I can't give up that much money and if I raise my prices I can't compete. I was once proud of my success on Etsy, now it has been destroyed because of corporate greed.

Some very strange experiences with Etsy. The account was suspended from the 1st day without any product upload and then unlocked after appeal. Then I was suspended again for the 2nd time after I uploaded my 1st product. I appealed again as I cannot see what the issues were. They finally emailed me stating that they permanently closed my account due to violations. However, they cannot explain why and they will not respond to any questions.
I strongly believe that if a company is going to close your account, they should at least explain what the violations were instead of just quoting the Terms links. The product that I was aiming to sell is not dissimilar to other products they have on their site for sale.
I would not recommend them as they cannot provide clear guidelines and they can close you without explanation and based on their own subjective judgments. Imagine having a store full of products for sale with this sort of dictatorial power looming over you!

Etsy does not vet their sellers or buyers and when you get scammed like I did, Etsy says sorry this has happened and they wash their hands of it and you are on your own to get your money back.

Dreadful online shopping experience and garbage website.

I ordered some fabric - paid extra for rapid shipping. The item still arrived a few days late.

The amount received was a third short of what I ordered. Thats quite a lot of missing fabric.

No response from seller after requesting assistance. None. Not a single acknowledgement.

(Seller still advertising the exaggerated measurements for their fabric and charging according)

Etsy has some stupid complaint procedure that wont allow you to register a complaint unless you upload a photo. Not suitable for dealing with fabrics that run into metres in length, but no they insist on that stupid photo.

A week on - not single response from either the Etsy seller or from Etsy.

A week on. No response. No attempt to rectify the problem and even though I requested express shipping, they don't allow me an option to request express rectification - the only thing to do is therefore to get a replacement from a reliable outfit.

I have absolutely no ability to rate the sellers - this is not like ebay. This is an absolutely shady situation.

Complete waste of time and money.

I could have got something next day from a larger retailer. The whole idea of supporting local business through Esty is bunk. Service quality is clearly an issue if they deny buyers like me an opportunity to leave feeback.

I imagine they make all their money from sellers and go the extra mile to protect seller from buyers who have been disappointed.

Absolute garbage. Will never use this website ever again. Zero chance.

The very existence of a site that is so rampant with overtly false and fraudulent products like this one is just beyond the scope of plain common sense. I have personal experience dealing with these people. If you think buying a used car is a mental nightmare, try communicating with these people. They make used car salesmen look like saints. The most obvious sign to me is even their advertising photographs are blatantly incorrect as to what they are trying to con you into buying. This site would be comical to any individual who has just basic level knowledge of a product they are considering buying but the big problem that I see is the public may not be aware of all the important characteristics of what they are considering buying and therefore suseptible to being ripped off. Avoid this site at all costs. The feds should have shut this place down years ago.

Etsy has a lot of shady products. They make it even easier for the customers to be ripped off, because there is a time limit on how long you can write a review on a product you've already purchased. They have a lot of bad customer service and it's fairly inaccessible.

I owned a small business on the Esty platform for a little time, in which I made just under $50. I had to wait a month before Esty support got back to me, (not the first time I've had to wait for help. They somehow got the wrong bank account information in my files, which resulted in my money almost going to someone else, and me not being able to change it). Meanwhile I had an order waiting to be sent this entire time. It had been 3 weeks since I've gotten this order, Esty finally gets back to me and says my funds are finally on their way. (Mid May 2021), I had funds sitting in my Esty account since early march 2021.

I was looking forward to sending my package (Esty was my only source of income).
A few days later I get an email stating that my business has been suspended due to financial problems.
Then, it was taken down.
The reasoning was I am not 18 years or older. I explained I live on my own, so my parent being in charge of my Esty doesn't make sense.

They denied it,
And my account is still suspended. In which I'm still fighting to get it back.
