The company's reputation is marred by significant customer dissatisfaction, primarily stemming from poor customer service and unresolved order issues. Many customers report extensive delays in shipping and inadequate communication regarding their purchases, leading to frustration and a sense of helplessness. Additionally, there are widespread concerns about the platform's reliance on automated systems, which fail to provide effective support for both buyers and sellers. Despite some positive experiences with individual sellers, the overarching sentiment highlights a pressing need for improved transparency and accountability from the company to enhance customer trust and satisfaction.

I was a seller on Etsy. I was accused of violating Etsy policies, my account was subsequently banned. I received automated e-mail messages in response to my appeal.
The accusations made against me were completely invalid and hypocritical. Thousands of listings for the item I was banned for selling are still being sold by others on the website.
Etsy STOLE all of the money that they were withholding from me and had not payed me yet, then blocked me from logging into my account.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLATFORM, try Amazon etc. instead. HORRIBLE!
I have been selling on Etsy for many, many years; mostly vintage paper and postage stamps. All intended for artists and crafters. Lately, though, I have to think hard about whether I want to support this platform anymore.
Their regular fees have gone up considerably and they have instituted a new marketing charge. If a buyer finds you via an Etsy ad (on Bing, Google, Pinterest, etc.) you are charged 15% of the total order (taxes and shipping charges included) and, should that customer enter another order within 30 days, you will be charges, again. You can opt out of this program, unless you sell more than $10,000 per year. If that is the case, your charge is dropped to 12%, but you are enrolled in the program for life. You can never opt out.
Between the marketing charge and them raising their regular fees, on average I am paying 18% of all my orders to Etsy. That includes taxes and shipping. And, all the fees you pay does not get you access to much support. There is NO phone number for Etsy. You have to ask questions via their online support form. It can takes weeks for them to answer and 3/4 of the time the answer does nothing to address your issue. You end up going back and forth and back and forth until, hopefully, you finally get the answer you needed. Sometimes your problem is never resolved.
Lastly, they change the rules constantly and never tell you. Just recently they decided that sellers can no longer sell postage stamps to artists and crafters. Doesn't matter how old the stamps are. So, postage stamp sellers got up one morning and found their shops decimated. No warning from Etsy. Nothing. Some of these sellers have been with Etsy almost since the beginning and, all of a sudden, out of the blue, their listings are being deactivated.
Lastly, they are pushing hard for all orders to be shipped with tracking. This works for USA sellers, but anybody from another country has a really hard time with this, as tracking can be quite expensive. And, who wants to pay for tracking on a $10.00 order?
On the plus side, Etsy has a captive audience who is looking for supplies and handmade items. This is the one big advantage of using this platform. Don't expect them to care about you, though.
People should know you can only post a photo with a review of it's 5 stars. Therefore the photos you see are not always accurate to what you may receive. If Etsy is legit. Why not let anyone post a photo of what they receive?
I agree and would not advise using Etsy, I ordered a cat fountain. The shop is named SkullsRusofficial in the UK, the package when it arrived, came from Utica, NY. I asked them for return on the faulty fountain and refund. The seller of this shop was combative, called me a liar, told me that I was free to send it back but that there would be no refund, even if faulty. This is so sad because I was really nice to them. There is nothing Etsy will do because they just let buyers deal with sellers who lie and deceive about their products. In this case, I thought I was getting a unique fountain from England. When it arrived, the box said Made in China and the product had Chinese writing on it along with instructions that weren't in English. So disappointed. I do not recommend Etsy if you want to buy something. I contacted my credit card company for a full dispute of the amount. When I went back to this seller's site, the cat fountain was removed. It's really nefarious.
Very bad customer servic: this is a scam. I bought a beach umbrella: It took almost 2 months before I received it (while I was supposed to receive it in 3 weeks). I treated the umbrella with a proper waterproof product, and all colours faded away anyway They ( were dealing with DHL: and told me it was THEIR problem)... this is the WORST delivery company i've dealt with: IMPOSSIBLE to talk with anybody. And ETSY, didn't care AT ALL! I guess they care of there customer as much as?... AND for the same item, prices would change from one day to another, as well aq the delivery cost. This i strange... NEVER AGAIN witn Etsy... I care about people: so if they don't care about customer, imagin with their own employees? I feel sorry sorry for them.
And their leather bags are very very good
Some dresses seem pretty too
They blocked china
Still a very nice shop
I would not advice using Etsy, I ordered the gift at Etsy.com - CornishHart. The shop is named Cornish Hartes in UK, they could not ship in Canada and asked them to cancel and send back the refund. The seller of this shop never responded. This is so sad because I tried to contact the customer service but there is nothing you can do because they just let you deal with the seller who can just be a scammer. So desappointed and will not advice Etsy if you want to buy something.
Now desert noir is saying a refund. I want the cactus not a refund. He is denying what I purchased and there still is one available. Why not give me what I ordered? Again I don't want a refund. I want the cactus. That's what I chose from the start. The silver barrel cactus.
I bought several smaller items from Etsy from various sellers. I didn't have any issues. All of my items I ordered are as described and arrived more or less around the expected delivery date. However, I always check if a seller has a good track record and decent reviews. My favorite purchase from Etsy is a plant, Alocasia Reginula Black Velvet, that bloomed right after a month. To sum it up: I'm happy with Etsy.
I have been trying to contact them the past 2 weeks and barely anyone has reached out to me. For such a big company they sure do NOT know how to respond to their customers.
I was looking for a wedding dress, something hand made and a little more custom. Etsy used to have sellers who actually do hand made items, custom items, etc. i ended up buying a couple to see which one i liked more (no plan to return any, just to donate if i didn't choose one). Every seller claimed to be - made in the U.S., hand made, custom etc. Every single one just shipped pre-made garbage from china/vietnam. All the items were appaling quality, nothing like the picture, nothing like the discription. I wrote bad reviews on each one. And then was contacted by the sellers - every time - offering between a one hundred percent and a 50 percent refund. They had the balls to tell me when i was asking about long shipping times that my dresses were being 'made' as we speak, etc. now i know how all of those shops have such high ratings. If i paid 500,700 for a dress and received junk but was offered 100 percent of my money back including shipping costs just to change my reviwe from a one to a five star - and i couldn't afford to just swallow the monetary loss - of course i would change my review... i did report each of the shops to etsy, with copies of the messages telling me i could get a refund if only i would lie about my exprience, and proof that the dresses were NOT handmade or vintage or anything else that is allowed by etsy's policies... nothing happened. And looking through the cite more carefully now i realize that most of the people on there are just fast fassion chineses company re-sellers, that most of the positive reviews of these companies are fake and that the cite is one giant scam that hurts legitimate craftsmen and artisans and small businesses while doing nothing to ensure integrity.
I have lost 760 AUD as seller stopped responding and customer care closed my case three times without proper reveiw. No help for customers at all
I received order on May 20,2022. Why can't I "open a case" with Etsy now or write a review / "leave a review on 07 July, 2022" /?
The BnhStone seller does not answer my objections, questions and requests for clarification of lies that he used to sell this item.
Another thing:
I haven't received my order # *******863. Curier UniUni on December 27,2021 left the parcel in the hall of the building but someone simply stole it, which I found out much later, when I started demanding the order.
The conversation explaining what happened lasted a long time, with the seller and the UniUni company. The term "open a case" has expired, the seller and the courier company do not respond to my requests for reimbursement of the costs of an unrealized order. What can I do?
*******@etsy.com:
"This is not a monitored inbox. If you're looking for support from Etsy, visit our Help Center. If you have item or order questions, directly contacting the buyer or seller on Etsy is the best first step.".
I have contacted the sellers many times. Without result. So who can help me?
DO NOT BUY AND SELL ANYTHING ON ETSY. IF YOU WANT TO SELL SOMETHING THERE THEY CHARGE YOU 6.5 PERCENT FOR FEES AND 15 PERCENTS FOR OFFSITE ADDS THEN WHAT YOU GET JUST A LITTLE MONEY. IF YOU BUY SOMETHING THERE IF ITEM GETS SHIPPED AND FOR SOME RESON ITEM GETS LOST OR YOU DONT RECEIVE YOUR ITEM THERE IS NO WHERE TO COMPLAIN AND NO WHERE TI CALL. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICES. ITS REALLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICES. IF YOU WANT TO BUY OR SELL, ANAZON AND AFTER THAT EBAY ARE THE BEST. AT LEAST YOU KNOW YOU GET YOUR ITEM OFHERWISE YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK. But in etsy you will lose
I ordered a digital document from one of the vendors and received it instantly. They accept PayPal payment which was very convenient for me. The budget template has been really helpful for me. As a student, I have been struggling managing my finances and identifying areas of waste, but am slowly getting that under control. Etsy allows vendors to list their products and also determine their prices. This includes digital items such as excel templates, word document templates, etc.
I've spent more than a decade getting ripped off from shopping on ETSY and reporting these fake websites, only to see that they continue to be allowed to sell here. This is tantamount to California, where they entice crooks to steal by not stopping them if it's under $750 and letting them out of jail within 2 hours if it is, or it's murder, or any other felony. Same mentality here! One of the biggest scam industries is the plant industry, and in particular, seeds. You can't know what you've have purchased is legitimate or accurate unless you are first familiar with what the seeds should look like and then are successful in making it grow and seeing the color. 99.9% of the people that sell rose seeds are corrupt, for this reason. No one tries to grow a rose from seed, and you need fresh seeds. A rose bush can take more than 3 years before it blooms if grown from seed. So, the seller will put up pretty and sometimes false pictures of roses, such as Rainbow Roses, or Deep Blue Roses, or other impossibilities of Nature and other seeds as well. If anyone spent even 2 minutes to search my reports and the websites I submitted, or even checked the sites of the "
Rainbow Roses" or "Rainbow Chruysanthemums", etc., they would see that these pictures are stolen from another unrelated website that hand dyes white roses or chrysanthemums to look as a rainbow of colors by injecting dye into them. They are quite beautiful, but no seed could possible do this, thus the draw from both elated buyer and corrupt international seller who can likely get away with it? The dumb buyer always gives 5 stars when the seeds arrive, rather than waiting 6 weeks to see if they grow. There are so many examples of this, I keep reporting them and they keep remaining. I stopped buying because of some of the ridiculous excuse for seeds I was receiving. The larger problem is the review system is broken and people are not reviewing properly, but instead give 5 stars before they planted or saw anything grow, simply just because the seeds arrived! These dumb, gullible people not only enable the crooks, but they hurt ALL of us, and ETSY is getting rich as an enabler!
Did you come up with the rise in profitability being 21% or greater. Is that after you charge your sellers cost,,.?. Or taxes. Because I have to raise my prices to higher levels. So your making for your buck by hit but I seller charges, so now we will have to raise our prices up to match your already high selling prices. Etsy is the most expensive place to sell. We need another place where corporations like Etsy and eBay.are kept on a leash. Oh well passit on the the consumer
I like Etsy most of the time. But they allow too long of waiting periods between the time you can order and the time you can complain or make case if you order is not going right. I've ordered a lot from them and especially if you order something they can email you they take their time emailing your order that you payed for already. You sometimes even have to remind them or ask them why it's taking so long. Not very professional at all. I'm not pleased at the way that's been going.
They will charge you for everything! Don't waste your time and money. I tried to close my account and store, but I couldn't because I need to pay 0.36 and Thay charge me about 6 dollars every month. I didn't sell anything, but thay charged my a lot.
I ordered seed through Etsy -- I've been messaging the vendor Seeds by Cheryl that my order was never shipped and I would like a refund - never heard back from them. I started to messaged Etsy for help in getting a refund, but receive a run around from them on this. It's been two months still no seeds or refund. I'll never use Etsy again!
Answer: Check the reviews, and Google the seller. Also, are the reviews written in good english? Does it seem fake? Check pictures from the buyers.
Answer: I would have to say no, with LOTS of exceptions. In the past few years Etsy has allowed business to claim handmade if it meets certain criteria. I often see many items that claim to be handmade but I have seen them on Alibaba being sold in bulk. That being said I look very closely and have purchased some wonderfu items from great sellers. The biggest problem with Etsy is that they no longer protect customers from fraud (they say they are not liable) but in doing that lots and lots or resellers and counterfeit items have saturated Etsy' s marketplace. I would never buy anything "vintage" there. What I have seen you are getting thrift store rejects or modern fake. Buyer beware! Investigate all vendors carefully!
Answer: I am agree with Ramina. 90% is not hand made. All comes from Factories. When someone has over 8000's item don't you ask who made it. They are all over from Pakistan to turkey east to west up united state. Etsy is happy just to take your money and every 4 or 5 months closing one store to show off and if you have some money as a credit they take it too. No customer service, no respect no manor, they made policy just for FUN and they have FUN with our pocket. Stay far from them FAR FAR.
Answer: I agree with Steve J on this one. A lot of sellers on Etsy work from home in the evenings for extra money. Most of them are not big businesses with massive inventories so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. Give them a little more time and if they dont send it out then file a case with etsy
Answer: Business checking isn't necessary (the banks now charge a monthly fee for a small business checking). You can pretty much set up a regular checking account
Answer: I believe this depends on each seller. Etsy is simply a platform for sellers, and often does not have any direct involvement with orders short of processing the payment. Certain items cannot be returned for safety and hygiene reasons, and sellers can refuse to do anything other than exchange. Contacting Etsy may or may not change the results.
Answer: If you do, I would be cautious about ordering from international sellers, use a credit card in case you need to contest the charges, and do NOT expect ETSY do a thing if you get ripped off. They are useless and could care less once the sale is final.
Answer: I have bought a number of items through Etsy and with great success. I had only one negative experience and Etsy took are of that. I recommend Etsy wholeheartedly.
Answer: The best and quickest thing to do is to email the seller and let them know that you would like to return for a refund.
