This is a scam. It says it is free then once you get in and ready to file they end up charging you for your state return even if you do not want to file it. You are never given the option not to file the state return. I thought I was only filing the federal it never said I was filing the state. I intended on filing the state through our state website for free and only wanted to file the Federal with e-tax. I ended up filing twice because I was not aware they were filing the state. Then they charged me for the state return $30.00. Then it asked for a credit card, I did not put it in because I was under the impression it was free. They then charged another $60.00 for taking the money out of my return. I did not get a receipt nor is there anything on the site showing that I paid the $90.00. It was just taken from my refund. I called customer service and they basically said too bad. You knew you were being charged. DO NOT USE THIS SITE!

Raped of $94.85! Filed a simple state & federal return, must not have seen the charge for state... ok my bad, but in letting them apparently take it out of return (dont recall and NO receipt) it goes to a 3rd party that then charges $24.95 to verify your account and then an additional $39.95 to transfer your money to your bank after Etax takes out their money. When I called she said this was a 3 page process to accept... BULLSH*t! I did not go through 3 pages of authorizing them to take these charges. I can file my state for free! I got no receipts stating what would be taken or I would have cancelled this and did it through my state for free. I'm so pissed at the deviousness of this company that I will scream it from the rooftops not to use them! I will NEVER use them again or my friends and family, guaranteed free!

I got married before the end of 2020 so I had to disclose such fact in my 2019 tax return. In the etax electronic form, there is a space for the Social Security of my husband. However, he is a British citizen and not a US resident so he does not need a US Social Security number. The form will not get me past the social security requirement and so I called customer service. The person on the other end of the line did not know what to do and told me to just file SINGLE! Huh? I called IRS and they said I should put NRA on the space per IRS Publication. So, I call etax back and told them I need to put NRA on that particular space. The agent told me "Sorry, you cannot use etax then." WHAT THE HECK? This situation is NOT RARE. It is very simple and they shoud know how to address this. It is in the IRS publication (Publication 501page 7) Telling me to declare SINGLE is NOT THE CORRECT advise.

Used this believing it was free but although my Federal return seems fine enough, they really screwed up my State (MA) return. I called on 1/27/20 about their error and Tiffany said someone would research and get back to me within 48 hours but that the return was already filed so would have to be "retracted". Their error had us paying $187 but accurate figures yield a refund of over $900!

I called again today after receiving an indication (on my tax account) that the state taxes were submitted. I was advised by Brianna that they would contact MASS DOR to get the return back but I had called Mass DOR myself and was advised that returns cannot be retracted and that an amended return is required. So I advised her of such. I was transferred to a male, Lawford was his name I believe, who said that no return had yet been submitted. I complained (as did others on this review site) that I never saw anything about payment and credit cards, etc. He insisted I did but is unable to provide any documentation/copy of my checking off any boxes.

I insisted that they DO NOT submit any state tax return and he agreed to withhold it and send me a confirmation email about this matter. As of yet, nothing.

STAY AWAY from these schemers who cost me over $140 for a free filing.

This is the worst tax service that I have ever encountered. It said it was free, didn't give me a chance to review, and submitted my state without telling me that it was going to charge me $29.95. Plus, it did not draft the money that I owed the IRS to them, like every other tax service. I had to pay the IRS directly on the 16th, because that's when it was accepted by them (the IRS). Called them 3 times complaining, and wanted to talk to someone about this. She almost hung up on me, but put me on hold forever, until I finally hung up.

First off the site claimed to be fee. However I know most of them have additional fees. I paid $79 for Federal and State, because I had some business income. Their price was cost much less than Tax Act or Turbo Tax. I filed my federal Married filing jointly and State Married filing separately. Their system automatically had me as filing jointly with the state and I had to call them to change it. When I paid my bill. I didn't get a receipt. So I called again and they told me my credit card statement was my receipt. If you are filing a simple return. Just use Tax Act or Turbo Tax. I will never use them again. They would have cost me an additional $120 in State if I hadn't known what I was doing.

They took over 86 dollars from my check after being told when filing that 19.99 was going to be tooken out they are way worse then turbo tax, my check got sent back to the irs and now got to wait several months to get a paper check cause they couldn't edit my bank account numbers. I would bit reccoment using this service at all, for. Now on will go bsck. To turbo tax, THEY ALSO BEING INVESTIGATED FOR TAKING ALL THAT MONEY OUT OF MY TAX CHECK. AND THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WAS DOING

Advertising indicated that eTax was a free software to file a tax return electronically with the IRS. When our refund arrived at our bank it was a little over $100 less than what was indicated on the filing with the IRS. When I checked the "Where's my refund" on IRS.gov it indicated what the filing did. It wasn't the fault of the of the IRS. I think I'll do something different next year. Maybe get a part time job with a filing service and get an "employee" discount :) Shame on you "eTax". Never again!

After i efefile and saw that i owedowed called etax to question this and theythey had looked it over and becausebecause i enteredentered wrong infoinfo on my returnreturn they were not willing to correct itit and grant it taxes cannot bebe submitted til jjan 28thth and the girl i spoke with nancyyyynancyyyy was extremely ruderude eetax i can assure you i will not be efileingefileing with you next yearyear ii dont pay pepeople to be void to me and on top of that to be useless
