It was a stormy night when I purchased a title for my husband on the eve of Father's Day. Sad to be locked down and unable to leave the country for our long-dreamed-of family trip, we needed a reminder of who we in our hearts really are: Scottish aristocracy temporarily marooned in North Florida. His face when he received the certificate and when we went on Google Maps to view our wee bit of Scotland brought tears to me eyes!
I work as a computer tech at an elementary school in the states. Due to the nature of my position, I have the unique ability to come and go as I please. Some of the staff have randomly and jokingly honored me as if I was royalty so I took it a step further and decided to purchase the lordship package as a humorous novelty. The kids have seen and overheard it a few times so they too have gotten in on the action thinking it is/was just a running joke... when they discover the title's legitimacy, there are usually shocked overtones of awe. The look on their faces and their reactions are truly magnificent. Surprisingly, a couple months after receiving my title, my dad informed me my paternal lineage actually hails from Scotland and apparently, I am descendant from the McGhie family name. While no royal treatment is anticipated or has ever been expected, it has now been known to happen in certain circles. Definitely a conversation starter. The reactions from the recently enlightened are almost always priceless and definitely worth its weight in gold.

I bought a title for my Harry Potter obsessed daughter. I haven't given it to her yet, but I think it's a fun idea, and since I've always thought of her as a noble soul, it's only fitting that she have the title to go with it!
