Complete censorship
August 18, 2016

I noticed that about 8 months ago, my comments have ALL been marked as SPAM. They are not. I contacted a few of the websites I posted on, and one answered back, saying that Disqus did not even let him see my post. When I was ready to post a comment to his website, I sent him an email, and then I posted. Then I sent him an email saying I posted. He looked and said my comment did not even show up for him to see!

That was about a week ago. At that time, I went to my Disqus account page, and could see the 20 or 30 comments I had made over the previous 8 months. When I went there today, they were all removed. I guess that solves Disqus' embarrassing situation when I complain to the websites, and they find out my posts have been disallowed before they even see them!

I wish I had been cynical enough to copy that page when I found it. Fool that I am!

Further update: I logged out of my account, and logged back in, and all my posts are there. At least I've got them to put on my own website at some point in the indefinite future.
Too bad there aren't negative stars I could give them.

I know what started it because they sent me an email saying I was banned. It was a comment I made to someone's post that the US is free because there is no press censorship. My comment named ten or so journalists and investigators who had been murdered or "suicided". BOOM. No more posting for me!

UPDATE: A few days after this review went live, Disqus removed all the comments I made that they had marked as SPAM from my account putting to lie their claim that I own the material! Too late smart. I copied all the comments I made more than 8 months ago, in case they decide to delete those, as well.

Disqus has been nothing but a hassle to try to use as an interaction tool. Every time I post something that someone doesn't agree with (there's ALWAYS someone & it tends to be a zealot of some sort) all they have to do is type "@troll" and my post gets kicked off. It's happened enough times that Disqus banned me causing me to have to re-register. So basically they have enabled bullies in censoring the voices & opinions of those they want to shut up. Nice job Disqus! (Addendum: have been banned, again, not worth it to keep re-registering. What a disgusting display of censorship. Disqus really does allow Bigots, Racists & Zealots to control the comment sections - That tells us all we need to know)

This is the absolute worst "discussion" site on the Internet! That is if one can even call it a discussion site... because it's not.

It's actually a site where at the whim of a moderator (from San Francisco no less) decides that your post doesn't agree with their liberal view, your post is removed. You can also be banned from the site. Like being banned from Disqus is a bad thing? What a joke!

Disqus sucks
June 13, 2016

This site purports to support freedom of speech and yet if you say something that offends somebody they ban you from posting any comments.

What an absolute waste of time.

This website subjects you (and your kids) to all kinds of perversions such as beastiality, incest, rape, satanic sex worship as well as unfair practices by moderators who, if they don't agree with what you write, erase your comments or cyber bully you. Many don't moderate well allowing commentators to bully others with vulgar comments. There are is no way to block members who are bullying you are unsubscribe to unwanted groups. I suspect that the Disqus staff understand how to manipulate the website to their favor and technically deprive members they don't like from control of the site.

Don't use!
May 6, 2016

I began using disquis a few months ago, I gave very good comments and got a lot of good conversations with others, nothing bad. But i noticed if you get too deep on a subject they don't like apparently they hold your comments or like me delete your account! So i see they like drama and dont care about people having clean conversations. Yet someone else can type vulgar language and comments, nothing happens. Hate disquis good riddens you frauds

Disqus is too vulgar
April 28, 2016

I've been commenting on news stories for some time. Disqus has some issues with letting vulgar, obscene or comments that call for violence go free. You don't even have to use symbols for vulgarity, the actual swear words are allowed. Moderators are non existant, bullies abound. Really not worth using anymore.

Stay away!
April 25, 2016

Stay away from Disqus! The moderators basically run the forums. If they don't agree with your opinion regardless if it was written in good taste, they will delete it. Most of them appear to have an agenda. Otherwise, why would they delete comments rather than respond to them. The moderators also get to comment on the subjects. Some of the moderators are very rude and mouthy. If you call them out on it, they just delete your comments. After one moderator made a comment, I asked them a question. After a couple back and forth comments, they started with the insults and name calling. Next came them deleting whichever comments they wanted. Even ones that were in a discussion with other people. When you flag their comment, nothing is done. It's a complete waste of time to complain. I've complained several times and have never gotten a response. The whole experience is very aggravating.

Disqus or Disgust
April 11, 2016

I do not have any special experience with Disqus. I somehow joined then a year of two ago and forgot about it. They are holding a half dozen of my comments and seem to be set up a little similar to Facebook-(a little manipulative): no way to really communicate with them, no way to really control the comments you leave scattered across the web, no way to search their own discussion forum, and although they seem to have a strong set of stated values, the way those values are executed is another matter.
I saw some indication that whoever is permitted to become a moderator, sometimes abuses the responsibility of that position, by arbitrarily injecting their personal prejudices into the discussions, or by banning someone from using the service, again somewhat arbitrarily. I, myself, have not experienced that, but perhaps I will put up a test balloon and see what happens.
We should all be bound by the same rules and standards, and if any group has an ax to grind, then they themselves should be called out. We are all in it together and need to use the 'golden rule' if we want cyberspace to be a decent 'neighborhood'. If we allow it to be a fractious pile of discord, we will harvest what we plant.

Like many I decided to speak my mind on a particular discussion, then I get a death threat based on my comment, so I do what any sane person would do and report them, yet their comment still stays up, but when I want to speak my mind and my opinion gets deleted by someone who disagrees is perfectly OK but that of death threat isn't considered bad?

Really an unsafe place to have your own opinion and I do have photo evidence of this death threat them saying if they had the power they WILL eradicate me and others, or that they would vote with other people to put me in a gas chamber.

I report them yet their comment still stays up but mine have to be taken down just because of my political views and because I am not a Trump supporter at that, to which I find very stupid for a comment to be taken down when the discussion specifically asked

TRUMP OR BERNIE?

And I find it disturbing that Disqus, a place where they say no violence, and no harassment is allowed, would allow someone to get away with threatening the life of a person, but will take down my comments or banned me and say I'm a spam account just for speaking my mind.

But someone supporting, and condoning murder is A-OK in their books

Thanks the whole safety policy they have doesn't matter to them and they'll let someone get away with that

You really don't even deserve a star for allowing this to happen, but I have to put it down or my review wont be sent

DON'T USE DISQUS THEY ALLOW DEATH THREATS INTO THEIR NO HARASSMENT, AND NO THREATS POLICY just like schools that let bullies get away with harrassing a young student

Avoid using
March 30, 2016

If you manage websites, take my advice. Do not use Disqus. I have read of far too many instances of them deleting comments that reportedly violated no user guidelines. I had originally discounted many of these claims by users until it happened to several of my comments. If you want your readers true opinions avoid until they have fixed this issue.

Detected as spam
March 4, 2016

For almost a year now, anything I post on Disqus is "Detected as spam" or if I attempt to make a new post rather than comment on some article "Marked as spam".

It is depressing that so many websites and blogs use Disqus when there are many other viable commenting systems. I try to avoid sites that rely on this terrible format.

I saw a large number of rhetorical, anti-conservative "questions" (propaganda statements masquerading as questions), and so to test the waters, I posted the following:

Why is Hillary's untrustworthiness ignored by her followers?

It was flagged as follows:

Question That Contains Assumptions: Why is Hillary's untrustworthiness ignored by her followers?

Another reader wrote:

I'm not sure why someone changed this to "contains assumptions". Her untrustworthiness is supported by numerous polls. Or are you challenging that it is ignored?

My response, when I saw what Quora had done to my question, was:

Hah! I have asked on a number of occasions on this forum why the questions are slanted anti-conservative (does Trump's mother know he eats kittens?), and so I posed the question following the colon. Some moderator added the "Question... Assumptions:" preface - thereby proving my point about the bias of Quora.

I posed the question in response to some nonsense assumption-laced (but not prefaced) question about Republican candidates - I think it was "Why are young people repulsed by Donald Trump?" when, obviously from tonight's results in the Iowa Caucus, they are not. It was followed by an obvious set-up propaganda answer talking about how wonderful and positive young people are, in contrast to the "fear-mongering" Trump. Just an attempt to propagandize using a "forum" as an "honest discourse"cover to make it seem like an honest answer.

Her untrustworthiness is unquestionable, of long standing, and reinforced by her bald-faced lie about how she was asked a question "just yesterday" that in fact, she had conjured up herself weeks before, and was caught lying about it on camera. Glad you asked."

So: the fact that it, unlike numerous other questions like it but with an anti-conservative bias, was flagged as "containing assumptions" and restricted in distribution until I changed the question - that bias-based censorship has eliminated it as a forum for exchange of ideas, in my book.

While Disqus promotes their site as an autonomous chat platform I find it odd that the channels owned by Disqus are moderated by community member volunteers. I understand channels that are created by community members being autonomous, but allowing community members free rein on channels that are supposed to be the base for the company? Very weird.
Why would a company have community member volunteers deciding what comments to delete and what community members to ban? Several community members have asked why they were banned from Disqus owned channels and why their comments were removed when they had not violated ToS, Disqus policy or suggested guidelines. Disqus has not answered any of those questions and instead Disqus has allowed the community member volunteers to delete the questions.
If Disqus is allowing community member volunteers to run Disqus.com then that raises the question as to why they would think other companies would trust them with anything that does not belong to Disqus.
Oddest business practice I have ever encountered for a company to have its most public marketing base handled by people who are not employees.

I love this time you can write on the different cites you can agree or disagree or agree to what is said. You can see what others say and agree or disagree to what they say but you can get a incite on what others think about different subjects you can also win prizes. I am not sure when the prizes are delivered to those who win but they do win for what is said there voted on. Brenda carlton

If someone flags your comment, unpaid moderators will usually bow to them, and delete a comment, even when nothing inappropriate, or rule breaking has occurred. Disqus provides no means for someone to whom this has happened to dispute the removal of their comment. Hence, there is a heavy bias in favor of accusers.

[My comments edited about 7 months after my review above] - Most people who give their 1 to 5 star rating (below), I gather, are giving a rating to DISQUS, rather than of my previous REVIEW of DISQUS. This has been since Oct 2015 a little bit confusing to me. Since I thought the many 1-star ratings were of my review - rather than the sentiments (and 'review') that others reading my review apparently believe they are awarding to DISQUS, when they put a single star. Actually, they are awarding my REVIEW of DISQUS with 1-star. But since 11 have put that my comments are helpful, I can easily forgive them for so doing.

My review of DISQUS would be - if possible - a MINUS 5-STARS for Disqus, because of this lack of feedback, and lack of making any kind of appeal.

My recommendation to people who hate DISQUS, for the same - or similar - reasons that I do, would be to simply make up another email account, and start / restart in DISQUS under a different PEN NAME].

Perhaps, also, SiteJabber, might figure out a way to rate/rank the company someone, like me, is talking about, and emphasize that people are giving their rating of the object of scorn; and then make it clear, afterwards, they are rating the initial reviewer - in this case, myself - of giving the initial scorn to an agreed target of scorn - in THIS case, DISQUS.

Unfair Blocking
October 9, 2015

I used Disqus for quite awhile, getting plenty of likes on my comments. I even started getting followers. Another poster started writing vicious remarks about the Humane Society of the US. i. e: "HSUS is EVIL! Don't ever give them $!"
While I'm sure it has its problems, I had just adopted from a local Humane Society, and I did not want people to get confused and not go adopt because of her alarmist comments. Cruel disgusting bullies popped up, accusing me of being a "soldier" for PETA. I could not believe the moderator did not intervene since they were saying things like, "Can't wait to kill more animals because my fur coat looks fab." I said something like, "Ok hope you get paint on it." These idiots were like, "Admit you work for PETA now!" My comments were tame in comparison. The shallow, "fur looks so great on me I want to kill a fox next" person who was extremely graphic with the violence said, "I just flagged you, Freak." I didn't even know what that meant. Now I'm blocked forever from the site. And these sadistic MF's didn't even get flagged or anything. I just don't get it. Its not right, I was unfairly targeted. If anything, the fools attacking me sounded sick and twisted. I even used the Disqus "system" to write to the site and there was not even one response. This was Reality Tea by the way. I don't want a new account because they want you to register and there is no recourse if you are blocked. What do I get for giving them all my info? There were also many, many functionality issues on top of the unfair blocking. Oh, and don't forget, "You are LEGALLY responsible for what you type." WTF.
