Discover gave me a derogatory mark on my credit after 2 days passed the due date. No warning. No notification before reporting me to the credit bureau. No customer service assistance after that. 4 years of paying on time and using their card daily. Appalled by this unethical example of capitalism at its worst. Get it together! - no other financial credit card service devalues their "valued" customers so quickly.
Prior to leaving for basic training, my husband contacted Discover to open a checking account. This would be the account his funds would go into for the 3 months while he was away. The funds that would pay all of his bills as well as half of our joint bills. He intended to make the account a joint account, but was told they were unable to do so, but could not disclose why. I was informed later on that the reason was because I already have an active checking account and can't have 2. Had this been mentioned, I could have closed my account as it hardly gets used. It was then suggested he make me an authorized user. The only difference between the two is I would not have a debit card, which was fine for us because I'd have his account access where I could transfer funds from his account to mine via the app. Discover completely disregarded his request. Never gave me access. Never mentioned to him that even I I did have access, it would be very limited and temporary. Never mentioned power of attorney paperwork he'd have to sign so I could be given access. I've spent several hours contacting them numerous times and kept hearing how sorry they were for the "inconvenience". Numerous times I was told to have my husband contact them. My husband has no outside contact for 3 months while in basic. My husband now has funds transferring to this account for his/our bills that I have no access to. Bills that could potentially make us homeless, without vehicles or means of necessities. We have two young children together. Because their employee didn't do their job as it was requested when the account was opened, they've put my family's livelihood at jeopardy and all they're sorry for is the "inconvenience". 0/10 would not recommend wasting your time.
My wife passed away in March of 2021 and we had the misfortune of paying for Discover Card protection plan which promised to pay off the card in the event of a death of the cardholder. I began a laborious process of communicating with discover in March of 2022. First Discover said they were not going to honor it. Then they said they would overnight a letter with information on how to submit the death certificate. As of October 2022, that has never arrived. I faxed copies of the death certificate about a dozen times and the answer was that they never received it even though I had confirmation of delivery. Now I am told that they will pay off the balance and send a check for overages. Sometime in the next 7-10 days I MIGHT see a check. Obviously, I will NEVER do business with Discover Card again.
The maximum ATM daily cash withdraw limit is just as little as $500 regardless of available fund in the accounts. They just want your money to sit with them extensively. Easy to put money in but very extremely to get the money out. HIghly NOT recommended.
I have had my Discover It card for about 3 years now. Whenever I had to call they listened and helped me out. I had to dispute a charge and they were able to give me back my money. I like to use this card for the cashback.
I have 1 credit card with them as well as 1 checking account and 2 savings accounts.
I pay my credit card in full each month. Have gotten 2 credit line increases, by my request. Take advantage of their 5% categories each quarter. And looking forward to earning my cash back match soon, which with the standard cash back match will be just over $600!
I use this checking account to only pay my landlord. I am able to transfer funds from my primary bank into this account seamlessly. It does take a few days between my bank and discover bank for the transfer. My landlord gets their check on time without fail. I don't take advantage of the cash back on this account. I use my credit cards as debit cards so that no one, besides my landlord has this account information.
My 1 savings account, is being used to save for my down payment to a future home purchase. Taking advantage of the, now, 2% interest rate. In the 6 months of this accounts life, the APR started off at 1.6% and is currently at 2.0% earning a massive $28, to date. My primary bank, is currently at 0.01% with a similar balance and has only earned about $0.20 in the same amount of time.
My other savings account is used to hold funds for my mother who comes to my home and gets my son on the school bus. She refuses payment. So, I drop her "payment" into this account. If she's low on funds and needs help with gas for her car, I simply move the funds from her account into my home savings. It all works out. This account, with much much much less than my primary bank is actually outperforming my primary and has already earned $0.12 interest in its 2 months of existence.
I really see the value of Discovers Services, looking at other reviews, it makes me thankful, that I am reaping the rewards that are offered.
Alright, so Discover Credit Card send me an offer. Which I apply and got approved about 6 months ago everything was good until they send a email requesting me to complete form 4506-C, this form is verification send from Equifax to give them access to your income tax returns from a couple of years back. If you didn't file income tax the previous year you still have to complete the form and send Bank statement for 5 months and have the form notarized as well. You only have 5 days to complete this forms, if not your account will be automatic close by Discover Credit Card. I feel this is wrong I have other credit cards and none of them request this form. I don't want the world to know everything about me, who
Who knows where your personal information is going to end up at the end. Going to end up. I'm just protecting all my private information to myself, so I decided to close my account.
I received my invitation via mail and was promptly declined. My scores are well into the 700's. I have had 0 late payments, 0 bankruptcy's. I went out to my mailbox this morning and there was my letter of denial. AND yet another invitation from them.
They offered 0 apr interest for a year and a balance transfer option which I was going to use for a transfer of 900.00. Don't waste a hard inquiry going onto your credit report!
I've been a loyal discover card holder sense 2015 and kept good standing and made all payment on time. As of late I've maintained a zero balance but because of what they called inactivity they closed my account and said I had to re-apply for another card. So discover punishes customer for keeping there credit good and not abusing it? I won't be re-appling
I'm just going to explain at high level. All of these points are comparing with my other credit card companies.
-you cannot consolidate two cards into one
-unable to send Zelle from discover to my chase 3 years and its been ongoing issue.
-weak ignorant dispute department
-low credit card limits
I found out Discover Bank closed my account without telling me on August 20. I received a letter from them on August 30 claiming I deposited a check for $1200 on August 15. Funny I worked that day until 4. I never deposited a check since I deposited a $15 check on July 21. Discover Bank sent that $15 back to Citi Bank instead of sending me a cashier's check for the money. It is now September 1 and I'm still waiting for a supervisor to call me. I was told on August 20 a supervisor would call me back in 24:48 hours. Discover Bank is nothing but a joke. Stay away from them.
ABSOLUTELY WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! ACCOUNT MANAGERS DID NOT PROPERLY VERUFY MY ACCOUNT AND PROCEEDED TO PUT MY ACCOUNT ON A FREEZE FOR "MY SECURITY" WITHOUT EVEN FURTHER ATTEMPTING TO VERIFY THE PERSON THEY WERE SPEAKING WITH AND TREATING ME WITH PROPER DIGNITY INSTEAD THEY PROCEEDED TO ASSUME I WAS A CRIMINAL WITHOUT PROPER VERIFICATION AND BASICALLY DEHUMANIZED TO THE LOWEST SCUM ON EARTH! COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND IN ADDITION YOU BLOCKED MY ACCOUNT COULD MAKE MY FINANCIAL DUES AND OBLIGATIONS DUE TO IMPROPERLY DIAGNOSING THE CUSTOMER ISSUE. VERY DISAPPOINTED
I applied for a card and was told it would be sent without 4-6 business days. Never received the card so I contacted again to see what happened, was told they would immediately send out another card, never got it. Decided to give them one last shot, dealt with a horrible customer service rep who blatantly insulted me on the call and then said that I should receive the card in 3-5 business days. Never received any of the cards and called to cancel the account after wasting a month and a half trying to get my credit card. Horrible business practices and terrible customer service reps. Don't waste your time, I made the mistake of not looking up ratings and business bureau information, don't make the same mistake I did.
I applied for a discover credit card as a college student in 2012 to begin building my credit and had absolutely no problems till last year. I had opened a second account for my side business, which was put on hold during the pandemic. I accidentally used this card to pay for $20 worth of gas, thinking I had used my personal card instead of the business card. Since I hadn't used my business account for over a year because of the pandemic, I was not checking the account regularly.
Long story short, I missed one payment of $20 in my 9 years of using Discover and they decided it was appropriate to close BOTH my personal and business accounts and put a derogatory mark on my credit. This collectively tanking my credit score over 80 points at the time my wife and I were looking to buy our first house.
No call, only a piece of mail informing me they would be closing both my accounts(dated on my birthday). When calling customer service they wouldn't even connect me to anyone to ask about options for the situation. I was told there was nothing I could do.
Thanks for the loyalty and great customer service, Discover. You better believe I will encourage anyone and everyone I interact with to never use any of your services ever.
Discover bank refuses to release the funds in my checking account. There is 30k in my account which is all the money I have and they are telling me I have to contact the check issuer and have them reverse the funds and reissue the check I called the issuer and they said the check has been cashed and it's between me and the bank and there's nothing they can do.
Discover bank is basically robbing me! Since they closed my account they should release my funds via check to the address on file! Now I can't pay my bills and me and my kid gotta move thanks to Discover bank! I swear there lucky they don't have a actual bank branch or it would be serious very serious problems! I've contacted everyone possible about the issue and I'm having no luck!
I applied for a debit consolidation loan and submitted all my documentation as requested, then was notified they had not received my paperwork and they closed out my application. Since I was submitting my private information into a secure portal I am very concerned as to where my documents are! Meanwhile I was in contact with my assigned banker's assistant but still they can't locate all my person information!
DO NOT APPLY FOR A LOAN WITH THE COMPANY!
0 STARS- Save your time & go anywhere else! Discover is the only company that doesn't reimburse you on the same day for theft. They didn't reimburse for months just "investigated" & tanked my credit on a -1,600 balance. Once they finally reimbursed my discover card & sent me a new one they closed my account due to "lack of information"! An absolute joke of a company that makes a joke out of you!
Awful Awful Debit Account experience. I opened a debit account a month ago with Discover, and they made a business decision to close the account with my money still in it. Now I have to wait up to 60 days to get my money back. That was all of my money. I'm screwed, and I can't even pay rent and other bills. 0/10 do not recommend.
We had a large deposit in the form of a check. Instead of holding it or contacting us they just locked it. I can not access my account for two weeks. No paycheck no drafted bills. No groceries or gas I am just supposed to not have money for two weeks?!?!?
If you are a federal, tax exempt, U.S. citizen; or have told Discover you will NOT grant them permission to verify any of your tax records with the IRS, they will, or they already may have contacted the IRS using an E-DocuSign, 4506 IRS Tax Verification form without your knowledge and consent! They will click your signature making it appear you have consented. Then wire the e-document to the IRS. This happened to me. I found out a year later. I have an impending federal lawsuit against them. Contact me via your email if this has happened to you.
