Stole my money
August 1, 2017

Ive waited almost 2 months for an order. Ive sent countless emails only to get an automated "we'll get back to you in 48 hours" over and over. What a waste of my time and money

Stay away
July 11, 2017

When I just started using couchsurfing, it was quite good, i met a few people with whom i am still in touch. Then i didnt use it for a while to my great surprise found out i was charged with a membership fee without my permission because age ago i verified it with paypal. It was too late to claim the refund as i found out the transaction accidentall only through my bank statement. In the sector about local advice loads of people discussed the safety issues regarding hosts, some people shared their negative experiences, quite soon all of that was removed leaving only questions about transportation dated months back. Loads of men without hesitation trying to use it as a dating site (that type of men would think that any socializing site is for them to find a girl for sex though), it is not safe to use especially if you travel alone.

I went on a trip and used couchsurfing thinking it was like airbnb or something just to travel make friends maybe exchange stays but the first person I stayed with was OK but didn't really make friends and it was awkward as I didn't know what to expect. Then I stayed with a guy that ended up being really bad won't even put everything on here but he was drinking doing drugs talking about the girls he has been with from there and about prostitution etc I didn't want to go anywhere else after that but did finally end up meeting a good host that was friendly and then in Canada I met an awesome host that didn't harass me at all showed me around and made a great friend I hope to exchange time with. I met others that were trying to harass women or get something from them take advantage of someone. You really never know until you meet a person and it all depends on the person and host. For women some men try to come on to you or sexually harass you or assault you so be careful and if you can find a women then stay there probably safer.

STOP MESSAGING ME!
March 14, 2017

Never have i ever encountered a business that abused data so much

Signed up only to help a friend browse, deleted account same day

Just complained on twitter now 2 months later (I have had 2 or 3 emails a week since and unsubscribed to all)

Took a screen shot from over a month ago that was me complaining that i had already unsubsribed 3 times that week alone!

I cannot get them to stop emailing me

Contacting support does nothing

Contacted twitter, they said contact support i. E. get lost

I do not want these people to message me again, but cannot get them to stop

My next steps are to contact hte bbb, the justice department due to their data misuse and contact a law firm, there must be loads of people they do this to.

Stay away!

Don't ever give them your credit card information. I did my mistake and lost $26 memembership fee. You can never ever get a couch from their hosts. They seem to be fake hosts.

The app is ok, the problem is that Couchsurfing delete accounts with any verification, you get angry with someone? You report that person to Couchsurfing support with false accusations and they close his account instantly! There's many good people in this site but there's many bad people too! Any person can open one account in this site same delinquents and mad people! Fortunately I have made very good friends that are in my Facebook that I made in Couchsurfing but like any social network Couchsurfing are only for the money!

Couchsurfing is a scam, I pay to be a member and start a trip with my husband. But it's been a long time. Sofa available but not for married couples. Payment to send and reply messages again I have been cheated.

Couchsurfing staff through the networking site, are shamefully violating the 'terms of use' enshrined in the constitution - individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person irrespective of gender, race or religious affiliation, and is a surveillance group with knowingly or unknowingly, a racial bias.
Instead of taking action against a host for committing a crime or with the intention of doing so, Couchsurfing initiates action against hosts from minority communities at the whiff of a complaint. A study conducted by a University graduate researcher confirmed this racial bias recently.

Avoid like the plague.
September 1, 2016

While Couch Surfing (the system itself, not the website) got a friendly write-up in The New Yorker, their writer was lucky and fooled at the same time. My one actual surfer -- I'm not looking for a place to stay myself -- was a fraud, using a friend's name. I might have been raped and murdered, and not necessarily in that order. Soon after, two women called from the road (I-40) and announced that they were one their way. No you're not! Horrible experience. I asked them to remove my name, but now I see it is linked with CS when I Google myself. You've been warned!

Couchsurfing is a complete sham. What a bunch of arrogant, high handed fools running the customer service dept of the site. They run the site like they are emperors and treat site users like their subjects. Their attitude of disdain, disrespect and disregard with which they treat users is disgusting. I only recently joined the site and set up a profile. All of a sudden, with no reason given and no explanation or e mail from them, they blocked my access to my account. I decided they are not worth my effort and time to contact them and inquire why the blockage. For all I care, its good riddance to a stupid $#*!ed bunch of fools and their dumb site.

Waste of Time
August 2, 2016

I have been a couchsurf host for around 2 years. One of my guests wrote a false accusation about me, I wrote something back as well but they removed what I wrote about her but they did not remove what she wrote about me. So, I left there forever because of their ignorance. According to my experience for two years, all I can say is that: it is a waste of time and waste of money to host people. Many come just for a free couch. They don't care about their host, they just need your couch. Builders of the website show it like it is a community where you can make new friends but it is just a group of suckers who want free food and free accommodation. I still can't believe that I give my couch for free to someone and I get cursed in return. I met great people but most of them were hippies, dirty and mean $#*!s, if you are a single guy looking for women to go for dates, this is not your best bet, trying to find women to go for dates on this website is like trying to fish in a big lake where there are only 3-4 fishes. Also, it is not worth to allow someone to sleep on your couch just for a potential date. If you are trying to make new friends, this website is not for you as well most of friendships in this website are either for getting a free couch, free maid or free tourist guide. Friendship should involving giving and taking but in this website most of members are suckers who are only interested in taking from you. To make friends, use Meetup. To go for dates, use tinder, okc, pof, etc... stay away from couchsurfing unless you see your home as a homeless shelter. Spend your money, time and energy for more useful stuff rather than giving them away to suckers.

I tried CS for a while but for safety I decided to erase all my data and get out. I made a mistake by contacting CS board for asking how to do it. Since then, they confiscated my account and although it exists, I cant access it! Who is using my data right now, no one knows!

Couch Surfing can be really cool. I've stayed with two nice people and had a really great guest stay with me. But lately I've been getting 2-3 requests a week from backpackers wanting free accommodation. I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't just totally ignore me when I respond to their messages with information about how to get to my house and some ideas for things they might like in my local area. I put effort into responding to their requests and they never let me know whether or not they are going to turn up, leaving me keeping nights free for them and then discovering they don't bother.

Dear Couch Surfers - Have some courtesy to potential hosts. Tell us if you are not going to turn up.

Do I recommend it - yes, with caution.

What a bunch of bull Honkey social media circle jerk tom foolery. Everybody wants reviews, references, social media references, etcetera, etcetera... I would rather pay. $20 for a room for a key and come and go as I please. I started a couchsurfing profile years ago so if people came to my no-name town they could stay comfortably in my home without charge. But now that I'm traveling the country and looking to meet people and maybe stay with them, I get nothing because I haven't been busy enough "cultivating" my couchsurfing profile with "friends" and references. $#*! that, I'm a good person that won't steal from you or be rude and I don't need a goddamn social media platform to tell you such. I'll give you your $20, or $50 and still get to know you without jerking you off online. And get my room to sleep in for a night after I've enjoyed a few local brews. Airbnb or a similar website is easily as good as "couchsurfing" and better. I will never couch surf again simply because I refuse to spend my free time $#*!ing around on a mostly useless website so I can possibly stay on a dirty, used, couch or floor for free. Airbnb can have my $20, and I will have just as great a time.

I had very bad experience with their customer service after I created my account for more than three years, suddenly I was surprised that they deleted my account without any further notice
That is why I used alternative website like "swap nights"

One of my favorite sites
November 5, 2014

One of my favorite sites. Host and get hosted. Travel and meet people. Meet interesting people in your community. It is a great way to travel and meet people by getting hosted. Host people to get to know interesting persons. I am almost 10 years member in this site. Unfortunately now it grew so big that a lot of people who do not share the hosting idea are members, however the concept is still great.

Couchsurfing is a great concept: don't waste you money in an anonymous hotel, but meet a local who can show you the everyday life of a city.
I always use it when I visit a place, even only for a coffee with locals. By chatting and having fun, you can understand a lot about a different culture.
Unfortunately in the last years CS has been experiencing many technical problems and became quite confused. Not to mention about the mobile version - almost impossible to browse.
Anyway CS is a great project: they should just put some money on it and try to improve it!

I just got to know the website through someone I met on a social network. I like the idea that the website represents but I have a question to women especially but also men. Have anyone of you had also intimate relationship with the people who hosted you or did you feel like you are expected to have sex with them?. I respect privacy of others and would like to check that my privacy will be respected by others while traveling.

The person who introduced me to the website was a man who had reviews only from women and this appeared to me a bit strange. Anyone who can share his experience with me, I would appreciate it a lot.

Thank you!
