Poor service
June 6, 2021

On May 12, I had exrays done on my back. Was told by the doctor he was retiring in 4 days & I would have to get another doctor. If he knew he was retiring in 4 days why did he waste my time going to the hospital & then having no one that could read the ex rays. He gave me a choice. LIVE WITH THE PAIN OR GET ANOTHER SURGERY. Had 5 done in 15 years, what would you believe to have another surgery by another doctor after 5 failed. If I could STOP PAYMENT from my insurance company, I would. Of all the people that come into the hospital with NO insurance, I thought I would be taken care without idiot answers. NEVER WILL I GO TO ANY COOPER HOSPITAL & will continue to leave anyone who asks about COOPER. Even my cardiologist at PENN MED could NOT get the results. From May 12 to now NO answers.

I had a hysterectomy on 4/12/21 and stayed till 4/17/21. I was in room 969. I had the best, listening, caring and fun nurses. To my favorites, Thank you shea, wendy, Lesley and caitlin! You guys were right there when I rang for help. You guys made my visit so great! You all kept me comfortable, laughing and in a good mood.

Lazy doctors
March 28, 2021

I took my wife that was overdue on her pregnancy because she was bleeding and having pain abdominal pain and back pain and we told them that she was dripping some fluid and they said that everything was okay that she didn't break her water or anyting I asked them if they could induce the labor but they said and know that they're going to do it 2 days after I tried to tell them to check her more thoroughly but they just wanted us out quickly because the doctor was in her house and she didn't want to come in because it was on a Saturday but she was on call so I don't know why she didn't just came so I came and took my wife to another hospital virtual and it turns out she was leaving her water and she had to be put to induce labor I heard about these people being super lazy from other my friends that have their kids born in Cooper that they ignore everything you tell them and they try to make you leave as soon as possible without checking you thoroughly this is a crappy Hospital

Awful place to work
March 19, 2021

I worked here and Its the absolute worst place to work. The supervisors in a call center have no education past high school, and are incredibly unprofessional. One supervisor was reported three times on sexual harassment and still has a job. Another supervisor got in trouble by doctors and the docs wanted her fired yet she was hidden by another super and she kept her job. Another supervisors daughter works there, she was fired for smoking pot twice and somehow got her job back... another supervisor said she wouldn't hire a man for any position she oversees... the HR team is horrifically unprofessional and completely incompetent. If you want to advance and go to another department good luck! They keep you where u are with no pay increase. They will tell you different. I can go on and on but will stop. It's an awful place to be. Warned!

Concerns
March 2, 2021

I had an appointment for 9am. I arrived approximately 8:50 am. I was escorted to the examination room about 9:10 am. So far so good. Then:
I was told to step on electronic scale by the assistant; she tapped a button. To my surprise, I had gained 15 pounds within an hour. I weighed myself before leaving home that morning. I think the scales should be recalibrated after every patience. Next, the assistant took my blood pressure electronically. I have never, ever, ever felt so much pressure on my arm. Sadly, the numbers the assistant wrote down for the doctor were HIGH and WRONG from this electronic instrument! The doctor told me my blood pressure was high! I immediately told her no way! The doctor rechecked my blood pressure using a different blood pressure monitor and got lower numbers that put me in normal range for my age group. Telling people they have high blood pressure is a mistake that should NOT be made because it is avoidable. I think the assistant should receive more training on how to properly use these electronic instruments to get accurate results! Finally, the assistant told me before she left examination room the doctor would come in within 10-15 minutes. I thanked her; she left and closed the door. I looked at my phone for the time. As I sat there, I became irritated! I sat there 45 minutes before the doctor entered the examination room. Upon entering the room, the doctor did apologize for the long delay. This can be verified in my chart. Look at the time difference from the time the assistant made an entry and the doctor made an entry. I do expect some wait time, however, there should be some respect for my time as well. If I have another experience like this, I will have no choice but to prepare myself to look for a better healthcare option.

Emergency care
February 17, 2021

Had extreme pain in thigh and went by ambulance to Cooper. All attendants were very nice and accommodating. They did X-Rays and Ultrasound of leg. Found no blood clots or any broken bones. Still in excruciating pain. NEVER got to see attending doctor who's name was Nyce! He didn't feel MRI was warranted so sent me home with crutches which I was unable to use because I couldn't stand upright without pain. And prescribed a strong Advil Pill. I even ASKED for an MRI and they said Nyce didn't see fit to do it. Hope no one else gets him as a doctor in the Emergency Room! He didn't even have the decency to come and see me in person. He sent his assistant! I'll NOT be going to Cooper Hospital should I EVER need care again. Oh, and I'm 73 years old and this was my FIRST TIME EVER going to a hospital. I don't take any medications and have not had any surgeries so I would think the care would have been a little better then what I received. That doctor needs to find another profession!

Extremely Unprofessional!
February 16, 2021

Made an appointment on 2/10/21 to see Dr. Freedland for foot pain. He came highly recommended by my PT. I took time off from work in the middle of the day to go to appointment and when I got there they told me all his morning appointments had been cancelled. However, no one notified me. I verified they had my correct cell phone number. No call or voicemail. They had 6 days from the day I made appointment to let me know. Extremely unprofessional. Apparently the call center and the office staff don't communicate. So in the future I won't be making an appointment through the call center and number two I won't be going back to Cooper Healthcare!

Worst doctor ever
January 26, 2021

Monica Atkinson is the worst doctor ever, she ignored me for a week knowing I was without my thyroid medication and refused to fill it or contact me. I called every day for over a week and no response. This isn't the first time either. He is cold, arrogant and has no bedside manners. I will never recommend anyone to see her ever. She should be ashamed of herself.

My name josephine penna iam 76yrs. Old. First i want to explain my situation. I had both my hips and left knee replaced and had pancreatits within 5 yrs. And also had a hernia repair right before my repair. All done at cooper. I loved cooper at 1 time. Not now never. So i had been on opioids for my pains. My family doctor was giving me the opiods i never got them from the streets as they say. I was getting oxicotin percocets fental patches and anything else you cam. N imagine. So i did overdose at the age of 73yrs. The er dr. at a different hosp. Called my family dr. and son my fam. Dr. Wrote me to say i was no onger his patient. I was still having severe pain. His name is dr. joseph sereci marlton nj. Now back to cooper hosp. Ever since what happened to me when go to the er they call me a drug addict i love drugs and these are the drs. Calling me the names. This past sept. 2020 my sister passed away and at that time my right leg was getting swollen and painfull and red. But i had to go to her funeral. So afer her funeral my leg was so big hot red and painfull so i went to cooper er hosp. In camden nj. I waied to se dr. horrible freeze that his name. He looked at me and said im not giving you any drugs on my watch. I was crying in pain he dr. freeze told me to take 2 water pills and i was let to go home with this leg. When i got home my daughters said please mommy go back. So they called the ambulance when they saw my leg they said josephine we have to take you to the closet hosp. I live in cherry hill nj so went to jefferson in ch. When i got there to wonderful female drs. Looked at my leg and said mrs. Penna you have cellulitis and they started me on antibiotics mmediately. I was in jeff. For 5 or 6 days with bags and bags of antibiotics and when leavng i was still on 5 days of the same antibiotics. I never heard of cellulitis but was tild i could have died if left untreated. So when i got better i wrote to coopers pres. Dr. Mazzeralli. I got an apolize letter from patient realations. Well i wrote another letter to dr. mazzarelli and i gi=ot another apolize letter and please this will not happen again at the er. I do sffer with severe back pain and without any kind of pain meds. When the opiod problems came out i promised my children i would get of opiods so i went off those drugs and was put on suboxone because cooper told me that suboxone woyld help with my pain. Well it never helped with pain so i told dr. schmidt at cooper iam still in pain so he upped the suboxone to 4 8 and half mg. A day for a 75yr. Old woman with 3 bad heart valves. That have to be relaced. See i believed in this dr. too. My children read about suboxone so i stopped take it. And i told dr. scmidt i do not want to take it. That was set. 2020 cooper keeps calling for my apponts and i told them im not taking them anymore. My dauhter just told me i went off suboxone in aaug. 2020 but the dr. was still sending me the presciption. I still have bottles of suboxone. Now dr. schmidt sends ms a pych dr, calling me i talked to him he was nice then he wanted to call me every wed. I never answered his calls then he called me again i told i do not need a pych dr. maybe all the ons who were in the waiting office wg for their suboxone who went to jail for drugs and who were on cout orders or go to jail. I was this old woman in a wheel chair with these young drug addicts full of tatoos all over their bodies and necks.and pregnantyoung girls full of taoos up and sown their legs and arms. And i said what iam i doing here. When i went this past month. Nov. To pain management he said why was i on suboxone for over a year when i could have been weaded off the drugs. I have been a patient at Cooper for over 20 years. Until recently I would get to speak with someone to make an appointment within about 5 minutes. During the last few months there has been a system wide unacceptable time before anyone answers... internal medicine, pulmonology, infectious diseases... all had me on hold for over 30 minutes every time I tried to reach them. I am close to switching hospitals for my care. I have never complained about Cooper care before this.

My last appointment was in June where I saw my doctor that I've been seeing for a while. I scheduled the next available appointment in August. They canceled that appointment the next available one was in September they cancelled that one 5 days before the appointment. When I ask why they say I dont know. So I had to reschedule AGAIN. This time I cant get an appointment until NOVEMBER. This is so unprofessional. If thay dont keep this one then it's time to go elsewhere. This is SEPTEMBER of 2020 and the next available is November. Really. Thanks a lot for rescheduling all the time.

Hospital Of Death
March 12, 2020

Cooper in Camden NJ is good for Trauma emergencies. But for those who are seeking elective surgeries and standard procedures, I warn you not to go there. If you value your life or a loved ones, cross the bridge and go to Penn.
My mother walked into Cooper with organs in very good health for her age. She took very good care of herself. She had a simple procedure to insert a stent. After the minor surgery, she complained of pain and was vomiting. They gave her Imodium!
She lay in general population for almost a week with her organ failing one by one until she was unresponsive. Then, and only then, were her complaints taken seriously. She was taken to ICU. She died of sepsis in the ICU two days later.
Since then, I have warned others about Cooper. They didn't listen. Now they are dead. Today I lost another friend to the in Camden NJ is good for Trauma emergencies. She couldn't even diagnosis my son who has obvious Schizophrenic symptoms. She refused to treat him. Unprecedented. She instead referred him somewhere else which is infeasible for my son to go. And she lied to him several times why she couldn't treat him or come to Copper for followup treatment. I was in the room and have a substantial background in psychology. She is an embarrassment to this hospital. But I guess Cooper is in the business to turn down business.

I have been going to Cooper for years now. I live in Delaware and am quite disenchanted with Wilmington specialists and Philadelphia is too hard to navigate. I had six cardiac bypasses in 2018 which went well and I am fine so far. Dr. Ginsberg, the cardiologist, has been on top of things before and after. I thought the pain was weather and Fibro, he assured me I had heart problems. They tried stints but too blocked for that. Dr. Ukrainsky, the Endochrinologist, has been excellent if not too innnovative. The ENT, Urologist, and Podiatrist all were lacking. ENT is no longer there and he shouldn't be. He kept saying "you have a deviated septum". Believe he wanted to do surgery. The Urologist was somewhat surprised that my biopsy showed NO cancer. I believe he was in the cutting frame of mind also. The podiatrist said, "no one ever died from a nail fungus". When I was in the hospital for cardiac surgery, they were exceptional. The endo people came to see me several times and the nurses were top rate. Overall, the medical center and its people is worth your time and energy. I agree that communication is NOT their strong suit. I once threatened to go to HR if their endo associates who were dealing with refills and appointments didn't get their act together. You'd be surprised on how quickly things turned around relative to getting a new appointment that I initially canceled due to illness.
The worst thing that happened to me was when being dismissed from the hospital days after cardiac surgery, a young guy, wheeled me down to the door where my wife was going to pick me up, left me standing, somewhat winded and in poor shape. My wife was having trouble getting to the exact door. I walked from one door to the next looking for her. He should not have gone off and left a heart patient on their own until their caregiver arrived. I told this to HR. They wanted to talk with me, but I never got in touch. So in the words for Forrest Gump, "and that's all I have to say about that"...

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER
April 15, 2019

Sat there for TEN hours why they worked on my brother and NEVER once gave us an update. Kept saying someone was coming but never did. HE EVEN ASKED for his family and they would not come get one of us. he was scared and about to have surgery and sat there ALONE for hours upon hours... the staff and security was so rude and unprofessional. I had NEVER in my life seen anything like it. Even the Camden officers ( the real police) said how rude they were and how he would NEVER allow his family to go there. Finally left at 2 am with NO answers. Never found out what meds he was on and he has had a transplant so this is VERY important! They just don't care about the people who are in there... this hospital has gone WAY down hill... on top of all this we had asked to speak to a "so called supervisor " and they REFUSED to come... from Denise in the cafeteria to Frank who holds some bull$#*! title just plain nasty and rude... I will never be back at this hospital! They need to fire them all or make classes mandatory for sensitive training especially at a trauma hospital... this is so not okay how we were treated and also my brother and I am filing a formal complaint with this hospital and filling out everything and anything I possibly can... this is twice this hospital has been this way so it's no accident or bad night it's the norm... MOST UNPROFESSIONAL PLACE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED AT THE MOST STRESSFUL TIMES OF YIUR LIFE... SAVE YOURSELF AND CHOOSE A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL BECAUSE YOU WILL REGRET GOING TO COOPER HOSPITAL! YOU WILL BE TREATED HORRIBLY GUARANTEED... so sad

Cooper University Healthcare's priority is their students learning putting patients at risk. Providers do not ask if it's okay with the patient before sending some in in knowledgeable student to began your assessment. They don't remember and don't write down your chief complaints which result in a misdiagnoses. Then you have to wait for your doctor to come in several minutes later. Then when they come in they are teaching the student more than diagnosing the patient. It's nice to help people but patient care should come before teaching students. This double/triple your appointment time with long waits just to be seen by your real doctor. Cooper has set itself up for big time failure. This could only happen in Camden NJ and most certainly not in prestigious Cherry Hill East, Haddonfield or Moorestown. Cooper is playing with peoples lives and feel no remorse for using especially black and Hispanic patients as guinea pigs. Their new slogan is STUDENTS FIRST!

The experience my daughter had with her 7 year old son here was unbelievably horrible. The doctors, which we saw many of due to a head injury, were never on the same page. Apparently they do not read each others notes. The neuro dept did not want to schedule an MRI yet the Trauma dept did. Problem was they needed to put him to sleep because an MRI is difficult even for an adult! We would have to wait for an anesthesiologist to be available. I went to the hospital the morning after he was admitted so my daughter could leave to get a shower. Shortly after her and her husband left, the child team came in to talk to my grandson to question him about doing the MRI without meds. Why they waited until his mom left is suspicious enough but they made her turn around and return because there was an opening right away. They returned and my grandson got taken down 3 hours later! They assured my daughter that if he couldn't get through the MRI they would redo it the following day under anesthesia. Well, they could not complete it according to the radiologist however the Neuro team said they got enough. Problem is they ordered the test with contrast and it was done without. They refused to complete the test! He was also ordered to get a tetanus shot and in the records it states he did, He did not! My daughter questioned all the decisions and the difference of opinions with the doctors but they told her what she thought doesn't matter. They were releasing him without the completed test. He was released with a brain bleed and no instructions for my daughter other than to see her pediatrician. Now, I'm not a specialist however I do believe she should have been given instructions on what to watch for and what my grandson should NOT do with a brain bleed. Needless to say, we are going to CHOP!
