The enrollment process was by far the worst experience. We had numerous issues with them rejecting items and it took weeks to get approvals. The schooling situation is by far even more hellish. The teachers do not exist. Please understand this, the parent is the teacher! Teachers are always out of office and even when they are in office they do not respond, are vague, and literally do not teach. The live lessons teach nothing about the course work and the school loads up the kids with millions of activities that the teachers fail to grade for weeks on end. My A/B honor roll students are struggling to stay above an F and they are working non-stop. If you child is capable of googling, searching and watching youtube videos of actual teachers teaching the sections on their own, they may have a chance. In addition, the school forgot to enroll my kids in all needed coursework. When we pointed this out, they bombarded my kids with full time weekend work to get them not only caught up but way ahead of the schedule. We had teachers literally emailing us asking why we had our kids doing weekend work and scheduled to finish the semester weeks in advance. I really don't even know how this is considered a school? Please look into other platforms for your child. Check with your state and stay away from Connections. If you are in OK, use EPIC or some other true "flexible" teaching environment. Sadly, my kids are starting a new online school only after two months of this hell. Those reviews that state you must work and not be lazy to succeed are lying. Lazy has nothing to do with it, the entire set up is a failure and your children are teaching themselves via google, youtube, and "sections" of online books provided. I will make sure every parent that considers this school understands that it should be shut down.
Don't waste your time! After getting all the enrollment paperwork done and sitting through a pre-enrollment meeting, for an hour, I got a phone call to let me know that my son would not be excepted this semester due to them not meeting the enrollment time. Then they proceeded to try and turn it around on me if this is how the school is run, I wouldn't want my child there anyhow. What a waste of time.So mad!
Hi Stacy, We always aim to be as transparent as possible about enrollment capacities and deadlines during the enrollment process. We are sorry to hear that you had such a negative experience and that we were not able to offer your student enrollment. We will forward your concerns to our enrollment team. ~Alexis
I had my kids enrolled for 7 years. They expelled my 1st grader. A 6 YEAR OLD CHILD.The work curriculum is ridiculous. They aren't willing to work with you when life serves you difficult circumstances. Basically. Your child is a number. That's it. There are WAY more Options than this liberal quack job of a school.
Hi Brytni, We are so sorry to hear that you've had a negative experience with our school. Our students are our top priority, and we always want to see them succeed. We recognize that attending a virtual school can be challenging, but we always encourage families to reach out if they need additional support. While we are not able to discuss account-specific information publicly, we would be happy to put a staff member in touch with you if you wish to discuss the withdrawal of your student. Please send us an email at [email protected] if you'd like us to have someone reach out. Thank you. ~Alexis
Had to remove my daughter from public school because they weren't teaching her anything. She was a sophomore in high school reading at a second grade level. She struggled with very basic math skills and no idea how to count money... so I enrolled her in Connections Academy and she learned more in 3 months than in 10 years of public school... and I am thankful to say she was able to graduate last june after only 2 years with Connections Academy... all I can say is try it... you won't be disappointed...
Hi Brian, We are thrilled to hear that we were able to have such a positive impact on your student's education. We hope that she is doing well now that she has graduated! ~Alexis
Where do I begin? They didn't make enrollment easy, I spoke to 15 different people who all told me 15 different things, in the end I had to enroll my daughter into a different school entirely which is sad because my daughter really would have benefited from virtually learning. Every document we submitted was rejected even though we submitted what we were told we could submit. You want kids to be apart of hi out program, yet you make it so hard for the parents to Enroll... Just don't understand. If you live in HUD or government housing, I do not recommend this program for your child because they choose not to understand your situation nor understand your "leasing" terms.
Hi Misty, I'm very sorry to hear that your experience with the enrollment process has been frustrating. I attempted to reach out to you privately but did not hear back. As a public school, we have specific documents that we need to collect during the enrollment process. We understand that families may not have the documents listed, but we generally have other options for those families. If you would like me to connect you with a Family Enrollment Counselor to discuss those options, please send us an email at [email protected]. Thank you. ~Alexis
I am so heart broken that I've went through so much to get my upcoming 9th grader enrolled into this school "Virginia Connections Academy", was told to give them about 7 days to know if she's accepted and then right after her acceptance she'd be placed into classes. Well it's been well over a month, honestly approaching 2 months and I still haven't even gotten acceptance or denial. This is so frustrating because I've sent personal documents and now I feel as if I just have my child's documents floating around out there in the world somewhere in just anyone's hands. I've heard NOTHING and I've reached out several times, each time it's the same old tired story... Wait. Well I cant wait forever and a day because if she's denied I would have to register to home school again and the deadline is approaching. Why would you all rush me to get everything on my end complete and then tell me 7 days before acceptance and placement just to leave me hanging? This is not right and the entire process has only added stress in my life when I'm already dealing with so much. Thanks for nothing and please properly discard my child's documents please. This has been nothing short of a NIGHTMARE!
Hi Bronze, I'm so sorry to hear that you have had such a frustrating experience with the enrollment process. I tried to reach out to you privately but did not hear back. I would be happy to have a Family Enrollment Counselor take a look at your account to assist, but I cannot find one using the email address you provided. Can you please let us know the first and last name of your student as it appears in our system? Thank you. ~Alexis
My son has been with CCA since kindergarten. This year he'll be going into 2nd grade. I love that I can spend more time with him and be more involved in his curriculum. Since the pandemic happened I'm glad this program is available. Downside has been the in-person interaction with other kids. I feel he's a bit sheltered sometimes but he doesn't have a problem interacting with other kids when he's at the park or visits his dad over the summer. They do offer field trips to meet up with classmates most had been canceled the due to Covid. Hopefully, this year will be different.
Hi Marina, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback! We love that we've enabled you to be more involved with your students learning. We also hope that we will have more in-person socialization opportunities in the future! If you would like other ideas on how to promote socialization outside of the virtual classroom, check out this Resource Hub article: https://www.connectionsacademy.com/support/resources/article/7-ways-online-students-can-socialize-outside-of-the-classroom/. We hope that your student continues to thrive with us! ~Alexis
My daughter is a senior and the school took excellent are of her. Especially her English teacher. Reaching out to her when she needed really pushed her to finish. Would recommend this school to everyone who needs an at home environment
Hi Erica, Thank you so much for the kind words! We love to hear about the successes of our students, and it's even more exciting knowing that support from their teachers helped to drive that success. We wish your daughter the best after graduation! ~Alexis
Worrst online school ever, be prepared to teach your child yourself with the lesson plans they provide, expect college style lecturing with assigned reading and asynchronous work. Basically, as the "learning coach" you're the unpaid teacher and they get paid by the state.
Update: Connections Academy responded by reporting my review as not having a valid email address... I wonder how many bad reviews they get removed in an underhanded and dishonest way.
Connections academy has been a life saver. My son isn't the best student, and school definitely isn't his favorite thing, but his teachers have been the best. They have encouraged him along the way and have been there for me every time I needed them. Thanks!
Hi Trisa, Our teachers are the cornerstone of our schools and it's great to see that their hard work isn't going unnoticed. We are so happy to hear that your son has been getting the support he needs. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback! ~Alexis
Immunization records for online school is ludicrous. This stupidity is a complete turn-away!
Hi Heath, I attempted to reach out to you privately but did not hear back. Even though we are a virtual school, we are still a public school so we must adhere to the same rules and regulations that a brick-and-mortar follows. This does include collecting an immunization record during enrollment. Many of our states do allow for exemptions. If you would like to learn more about the exemption options for your state, please send us an email at [email protected]. ~Alexis
Gabriel is my son, he is 8 years old and in first grade, my son is special needs My son learning need are different from others. He is below level in reading, math and science and social study he is an A-B My son teacher is great she worked with me when we first started I didn't know what I was doing, and I don't know what I would have done without her, she helped me every step of the way.
Hi Wilhemina, We are thrilled to hear that your son's teachers have been able to support his needs while also helping you understand your role! We hope you both continue to succeed with us! ~Alexis
My daughter wasn't doing so good in public school. We chose to come to an online school, to give it a try. She has been more focused, less distracted from everything around her. She excels in ways I didn't think possible. This is by far the best choice we ever made.
Hi Rickie, This is incredible to hear. We understand that some students excel in traditional brick-and-mortar schools while others need something different to truly thrive. We are happy that your daughter is doing so well at our school and hope she continues to succeed. Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
Connections Academy really works for our high schooler. We started a few years ago and have not looked back. The schedule is flexible. The learning suit our child's needs. Straight As. We all like it. And, best yet, we get to spend more time with our child, as a family. My wife and I love it, and our son loves it. Thanks Connections Academy, you are doing great!
Hi Mark, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback! It is great to hear how we have impacted not only our students, but our families as well. We are so happy to hear that your son has been doing so well at our school and that you and your wife also get to spend more time with him! ~Alexis
We were really nervous about doing an online Academy. We started the school year after covid started, and have thoroughly enjoyed our experience. As a parent I really enjoy being involved daily with what my child is learning. Also, my daughter has become an excellent independent learner. I think this is a good skill to have in life. This would be our second year in Connections Academy, and I don't see us changing that.
Hi Renee, We definitely understand that choosing to enroll in a full-time virtual school is not always an easy task. We are thrilled to hear that we have not only allowed your daughter to become a more independent learner but that you are also enjoying being more involved in her schoolwork. We hope that the rest of this school year is amazing for both of you! ~Alexis
Our experience with Lowcountry Connections Academy has been fantastic. I have a graduating senior with a learning disability. She is highly functioning and very disciplined, so CA has been an extraordinary experience for her. She has thrived being in a comfortable environment without distractions. My daughter and I also have a small business and she is also a social media influencer. Being enrolled at CA has given her the flexibility she needs to run her businesses and get her school work done in a timely manner. When she graduates in June she will be ahead of the game because of the experience she has had with her small business and social media influencing business.
My son is in 7th grade and he is also doing very well. He is in gifted and talented classes, so he is also quite disciplined when it comes to school work. I do not have experience with having young children in CA, but I can only assume it is a much different experience. Both of my children take responsibility for their school work and need very little assistance. I am looking forward to some social activities. Ie: field trips or school gatherings next year since we are moving away from covid restrictions. I think the social aspect is really the only part that I have a concern with going forward for my son. I do feel like our public schools have gotten much more violent in recent months, so I like having the security of having him be virtual. Thank you CA for giving us the option to choose what is best for our students.
It sounds like you have quite an incredible family, Tara! We're so glad to hear that they have both been flourishing at Lowcountry Connections Academy. We wish you and your daughter the best with your small business and are hopeful about the socialization opportunities in the future for your son! Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
This completes our 2nd year at LCA. We love having the flexibility of when & where our student can work on his lessons. Teachers have been awesome and work with our schedule. The curriculum is well-rounded and we love that we can see everything our son is being taught & by whom.
Thank you LCA
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Linda. It's so good to hear that your family is benefitting from the flexibility and is having a great experience with your son's teachers and the curriculum. We hope your son has a great finish to the semester and a relaxing summer ahead! ~Kim
Our family has had a lot going on, just like everyone else has. The Teachers, Principal, Vice Principal, Counselors, everyone helped. They understood, stayed interested in my student's well being, communicated, and always, always did what was truly in everyone's best interest, all of them care, everyday.
Really great team, I appreciate them very much.
Thank you for your kind words, Carrie. We know that when parents, teachers and staff work together, students benefit. It's good to hear that your family has felt well-supported on your journey. ~Kim
Initially we were a little skeptical about homeschool. Connections Academy has really impressed us with how knowledgeable and caring the teachers are. We will never go back to public school.
Hi Lakrisha. We're so glad you decided to give online school a try, despite those initial reservations. And we're so, so happy to hear that you love our teachers. We think they're pretty great, too! ~Kim
This was our first year with Texas Connections Academy and I am so glad we made the decision to transfer my son to this program. My son should be a Junior but he failed the 9th grade but when COVID came during his repeat year we realized online school was his thing. So when it came time to send him back in person, it was not a good option for him. We also discovered he was being bullied because he is a Male All-star Cheerleader. He is thriving in the homeschool environment. The teachers stay in constant contact with both my son and myself. Communication is amazing! My son finds the courses are appropriate and able to be understood. If he has questions or needs assistance with an assignment he can always get ahold of a teacher. My Daughter is in Middle school now but in another year she will start HS. Already considering transferring her to this program as I am not impressed with the high schools in our area. Highly recommend TX Connections Academy!
We're glad you discovered that your son works well in an online environment and we're delighted that he's getting the support and encouragement he needs. Wishing him continued success in school and with cheerleading! ~Kim
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week. For information specific to the school(s) in your state, please email us at [email protected]. Thanks! ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Monique, Many students with special needs thrive in online school. Can you please email us at [email protected] so we can connect you with the Special Education team in your state and also provide you with additional eligibility information about the school(s) in your state? Thank you! ~Alexis

Hi Mohammed, Thank you for your feedback. Our goal is to provide a quality education for our students and support for their Learning Coaches, and I'm very sorry to hear that you didn't find what you needed at our school. Our students generally have more independent work than they would in a traditional public school and we strongly recommend that they have a Learning Coach to help keep them on track. However, I do want to note that our student's teachers are their primary educators and are available to help students via phone, webmail, or the online classroom. It sounds like you've found an education solution that works well for your family, and we wish you and your students well in the months ahead. ~Kim
