I have been locked out of chess.com for quite a while now and don't know why. I try the reset password function and it says there is an email sent to reset, but it never gets received, even in spam folder. Emails to support are ignored. Anybody have suggestions?

I feel scammed
January 18, 2021

The website is super cool, and has gotten many people on chess. I was trying to learn, and tried the trial; I forgot to cancel it. Which means you would start paying monthly of course. No big deal, right? Well, they sign you up for a YEAR of the highest payment option! They are ignoring my emails about it. It's a friggin pandemic, I cant drop 100$ on a "diamond chess membership", I wish they would just help me out. I dont really even want to play chess anymore.

Forced me to draw.
November 24, 2020

This bot forced a draw when I had the complete advantage, and said stalemate. I'm no chess genius but this is complete bull$#*!. I'm white, see screenshot, and don't bother wasting your time. It's like a bot who doesn't like to loose so takes away your win. The bot should have resigned.

Hello Monty, this is quite a surprising draw! It's clear that white is winning based on material, and you've played well to have so many extra pieces. Bots will not resign even in totally lost positions since many players prefer to play until checkmate, and it's good practice. This position in your is a draw due to the stalemate rule. This is a special rule where a draw occurs because it is one player's turn and he has no legal move, yet he is not in check. Since it is not checkmate and yet the player cannot make any move, the game is ruled a draw according to stalemate. Check out this article for information: https://support.chess.com/article/682-what-is-stalemate
In the position in your screenshot, all of black's pawns are blocked, and all of the squares around black's king are attacked. Black cannot move his king or any pawns, yet Black is not in check, so it is not checkmate. Therefore the game is ruled a draw according to stalemate. If you have any questions about this rule or suggestions for us on how to improve the new personality bots, let us know at [email protected].:)
Kind regards,

India

Scam people

Customer executive response is like once in 2 weeks, they will ask for membership and once you have taken they will then close your account without any notice and not after closing your account. If you will raise dispute you will either get no reply or a very delay in reply mentioning as we don't accept your dispute. My personal details are yet to be deleted from their database, and when I asked for deletion of that I got no reply.

Credit card scammers
November 24, 2020

They blast you and harass you with ads til you buy one year premium, then they close your account after 2 months and ask you open another one and get another premium. Hopeless, lowly, sneaky merchants chess.com

Hello Saeid,
Sorry for the trouble. The only reason we would ever close an account is due to violation of our site policies, which may be related to multi-accounting, abusing other players or cheating. Even in such cases we offer the ability to appeal the closure by writing to us at [email protected]. In the event that an account cannot be reopened, we will always refund any remaining membership credit, since we would never want to charge someone for a service they can't access. That's just not how we do business! Please write to us at [email protected] and we can assist with your account.

It was nice for my 9 years old son to play and learn from this place until they closed our account. We send the appeal to ask the reason why they closed the account, but they just simply said we get outside assistance. We are so sure we did not, but they said that we probably did not notice we did break the rule, and they would be happy working with us for the account if we admit we did. So I ask them to identify which part we did wrong because this is not about the account, we would like to learn a lesson for the future. But the director of support refused to say the details. His reason is that is according to the non-disclosure policy. I doubt about it because I did not sign an agreement like that when we signed up the account, I ask him to send the link of non-disclosure policy we could learn. He declined. I checked online from chess.com, I did not find non-disclosure policy, but I do see the fairly play, I asked him to highlight those we had a problem, but he ignored our requests and told us that we could move to other chess sites, and then never responded my email. We were so frustrated with this kind of support from chess.com. I need a follow up with this issue, not just because I paid 99$ for Diamond Membership, but also about we need to be clear what I have done inappropriately, and we could learn a lesson in the future.

My account, which had a premium membership, was closed 3 months ago. I have reached out to the support team about 3 weeks ago to apologize for what I did that got my account closed, as well as attempted to apologize today by creating a temporary account and reaching out into the Help and Support forums on the site. However, even though the only thing I did was used that temporary account to apologize for what got my original account closed for abuse, all that happened was that temporary account was also closed for abuse in the same day without warning, thus ignoring my sincere apology. I felt like this was unfair treatment, so I felt very hurt, because I was apologizing, not violating community guidelines.

I have tried other chess apps and sites and they're not the same because they don't have the unique features that Chess.com has, like the puzzle battles, 4 player chess, and being able to customize your own profile. These are the reasons why Chess.com was my favorite site.

I miss playing chess on Chess.com because I have met some great people and clubs on the site, and now I'm unable to enjoy what I used to enjoy because my account is closed.

I hope someone can help me here and give me a second chance. I am committed to following Chess.com's community guidelines and Terms of Service.

Thank you for your help and stay safe.

I signed up for chess.com membership for my son. I have gold membership good until 2021. But my son (who is 6 years old) accidentally clicked platinum membership, now they charged $43.64 and now we have a double membership. There is no credit card needed. I looked up, they did store my credit card and set to auto-renew. When the business set to store your credit card and set to auto-renew, you really want run away from.

Hello Lee,
Please send us an email at [email protected] and we will correct this membership charge including a refund for the unwanted upgrade. Your son's gold membership must have been upgraded to the platinum level, and the difference in membership prices was charged. Sorry for the confusion! Payment information is saved in Chess.com accounts in order to renew subscriptions in the future, similar to music and film streaming services. We also include in our terms of service that any Chess.com accounts operated by members under the age of 13 must supervised by an adult who is a also a Chess.com account holder. If you write to us we can process your refund and we can ensure that any saved payment information is removed.
Thanks!

First of all, it is a great app for different kinds of players from beginners to the pro ones.

I've downloaded their app a few weeks ago.

Points:
*Lag- it is minimal throughout the app but this obvious to the lessons part
*Limit to free users- it could have been increased to at least 2 lessons per day or 3 lessons. I find the one lesson per day kinda unnecessary.
* There is a variety of options to do in the app from lessons to types of game you want to play.

Hi Arvie,
Thank you for your detailed review and the critical feedback. We will take these points into careful consideration as we work on improvements in the app.
Thanks!

Chesscom is beneath contempt. Short after opening my account and paying an annual registration fee of approx. 99 Chesscom accused me of cheating (using assistance e. Q. computer engine) and closed my account. The immediate closing of the account was performed without any investigation. Followingly, the chesscom support was ignoring my emails. The only answers I received was that "I should reconsider my position", meaning that I should claim that I was cheating. After making it clear that I will be forced to take the legal actions and giving a deadline to Chesscom for returing my money or reopening my account, the Chesscom finally retured my money back.
The whole issue took over 2 months.

From my personal experience Chesscom is a bunch of hihgly incompetent self claimed "world`s leading experts" who cannot distinguish between a computer and a club player. Furthermore, chesscom treats the customer as a piece of s**t.

I can only warn everybody from this chess server.

Lags
May 3, 2020

I have almost always faced issues of lags and then i lose out on account of lags. Of course there are situations where I managed to win completely lost positions on account of lags from the opponents side but that does not excuse these folks from taking responsibility. They accuse me of stalling when the issue is actually related to connectivity. I notice a streak of arrogance. It's not a site for any self respecting person

Hi Eminent
I'm sorry to hear about these issues with lag. We're working on server connectivity and reliability during these periods of unprecedented numbers of players. That said we can also discuss tips on improving connectivity and trying out alternate connection types, such as Websockets. For assistance with that, please write to us at [email protected].
Thanks!

I play chess whole my life, I have played lot of professional tournaments in real life. But on chess.com they "closed my account for cheating", when I reach 2000, without any evidence. When I send mail to them, they didnt answer me. My account have never be closed on other sites like lichess and RHP.
And we all know that lichess is better with findind cheaters. On chess.com they have poor way to detect cheaters so they acuse probaly many innocent players.
So i decide to continue playing only on lichess because Iam sure they will not ban innocent.
Conslusion: This was my worst and insultung experience in chess ever. So my suggestion is dont use this site ever.

We apologize for the difficulty of this situation. We are receiving 1000s of inquiries each day, and we are a bit behind on our usual response time. We will contact you as soon as possible about the possibility to appeal this closure and have your account reopened. We welcome you to submit any evidence of your playing strength as part of the process. We never want to close the account of someone who was playing fairly, and we will fully investigate this violation. We appreciate your patience and understand. Thanks!

My child has been playing on Chess.com with a clean record for over 3 years. He does not use engines, and he is an honest person. He has been playing chess every day, and he always studies his past games whether or not he wins or loses. He then writes it down, what he should do in that position, and commits to memory. This has helped him play in some tournaments with almost no inaccuracies, after we ran it through the computer. One day, after he got a first place online trophy in his school club game, he got his account closed for "Violation of Fair Play." I really think that Chess.com has closed his account mistakenly. Help!

Please write to us at [email protected] and we can re-investigate the report leading to the closure of his account. Any member whose account has been closed has the right to appeal the decision with our Fair Play team in order to have the account reopened. We'll get this resolved as quickly as possible! Thanks.
