My son loved chess.com and has worked hard to improve his rating > 2000 over the last couple of years. He recently won a chess.com qualifier tournament and got banned supposedly in breach of their fair play rules. He loves his chess and is not the kind of kid to be cheating - in fact he gets very annoyed about the amount of cheaters on the site. (I also happened to be sitting next to him during the tournament so I know that there was no unfair play involved)
They are interested in your money but have zero integrity and the tournaments they run have zero credibility - especially when kids like my son who are progressing and play well get banned with zero evidence presented from their side as to why they are making that decision.
It rings true with other reviews on here that it is likely the bots or automated systems that are incorrectly banning players and they are very reluctant to overturn this.

Customer service
June 2, 2022

The company accuses members of violating their fair play rules and closes their accounts, but they do not provide you with any evidence. How can you in the real world accuse someone of wrongdoing without providing evidence? This is ridiculous. My son is a chess candidate master with a USCF rating of over 2100. I looked into his eyes and knew that he would not cheat in his games. There is just no reason or any motivation for doing that, yet his account was closed twice. There are much better and free chess-playing websites sites like chesstempo.com or lichess.org. I would recommend any serious chess players avoid chess.com

Waisting time!
May 25, 2022

I was playing chess with chess.com application more than a year and I'm so disappointed now. Lots of cheating and unnecessary times from your opponent. There is NO management and responsibility from it's leader team. Friends are not friends and scoring is NOT fair! If you respect your mindfulness, don't think about this junk app.

Don't expect to last long on chess.com. Especially if you improve. You will be accused of cheating and then you will be banned. It is done by robots so you will not be able to appeal. It doesn't matter if you've spent money on a membership you will eventually be banned. I've overheard conversations amongst scholastic players. "My chess rating is really good." "Yeah, well, I'm so good I've been banned by chess.com"

Chess.com has players from Syria, Iran and RUSSIA. They do not discriminate. This works great as long as we are all at peace and the site is NOT being used for other purposes like how to hurt others.
The FIDE has moved to another country after Russians invaded the Ukraine killing babies and here they are playing chess and drinking vodka on OUR Western Site. Chess.com Owners should be ashamed of themselves for harboring terrorists and terrorist states.
They should be but people they are not!/
This is a very immature place and a dangerous one for the free world. Fun chess but very very poor western support against terrorists and creeps like Putin the murderer.

In real life I am a 1600 UCCF rated player and I am very good at tactics. Per my coach's advice I signed up chess.com, paid for the expensive membership, and promptly reached 2400 TT rating after like 200 puzzles. I then started playing 15+10 and 10 games. Took me a while to get used to online 2D play, but I was making progress. As everyone knows the first couple of games you win give you massive points. Long story short, after reaching 1700 on rapid, I got BANNED for fair play! I am incensed as my games were TERRIBLE, with accuracies in the 70 to low 80s -- I analyze each game after I play, and I only won because of tactical blunders of opponents (I said my tactics and endgame were way above my openings). The worst is that I am about to start an online tournament for a club I joined. Now my name is completely tarnished by chess.com. I have heard that chess.com has started doing this to new users whose ratings climb too fast. What a scam!

I should have read the reviews
February 9, 2022

They took $99 and closed my account 10 days later. No response from support. They claim violation of fair play, I don't play for money or tournaments or ratings. I went there to learn, so I could teach my son. Ridiculous tactics. Fine if you want to close an account; it's your site. But give me a refund for an entire year I've paid, if you won't let me use what I paid for.

Chess.com has one of the worst records of fairness for any chess site. The ELO scores don't match any other sites because so many players on chess.com use engines to cheat in games. On top of that, the "moderators" on their forums ban players for bringing up the cheating problem in their discussion forums since discussing it would put a dent in their revenue if the widespread cheating was acknowledged.

Don't waste your time
February 4, 2022

App is full of problems and far inferior to Lichess.

Some issues below:

Huge lag which impacts on your ability to win shorter games (3 minutes and under)

You can't select a rating range on 30 second games. As a result, you can win 14 games and lose 1 game yet still lose points. Dumb and stupid and kills the game

Customer service parrots on the Android app repeating the same things all over again

You can be matched with people you have previously blocked. I'm surprised this has not been addressed as it could lead to prolonged abuse or harrassment

Constant up sells

Chess.com has ruined many a day for me but I continued because it's where my stats are. I say go with Lichess and avoid the bother.

Besides exerting their communist control of what you message each other, during bullet play several opponents cheated adding second s on as they moved. I thought it was me, so I would PRE MOVE my pieces while my opponent moved... nope nothing added for me. The app sucks in too many ways to name. Do NOT give them a penny

Rampant Cheating!
November 15, 2021

Don't waste your time or money with chess.com. There's so much cheating on the site and they just retort with made up numbers about how many cheating accounts they closed each day. It's meaningless. Most games will have the other player using a chess machine to try to beat you, or "occasionally" use the cheating so they can't be detected by the so-called "cheat detection." It's a sham and I would recommend against paying money to a site like this unless you really like playing computers masquerading as humans.

I subscribed for game analysis, then they redid their business model and mid-subscription stopped honoring my features! They split all the features I cared about into a new "bundle" and tried to charge me more than 3 times as much to recover the features I was already paying for!

I never see any chess streamers use the chess.com analysis, so you'd think their marketing team would make an effort to not scam the client base they're lucky to have. Completely disappointing and transparent treatment by a seemingly reputable company that unfortunately hired some freemium cash funneling sales team. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO ANYTHING WITH THIS DISHONORABLE COMPANY. THEY ARE LOW REVIEWED FOR A REASON.
