Car gurus is great for doing research until you are actually looking for a vehicle. Example, say you are looking for a new car with a maximum price of $20,000. In the search area, you filter to search by price, you input a minimum of $5000 and a maximum of $20,000 and you get 150 pages of vehicles. The problem is, in your search area, say 100 miles from a zipcode, there are only 15 cars that meet the criteria. The rest are all cars with $30-100K MSRP with no price. So you are left sifting through hundred and hundreds of cars just to find the ones that fit for what you are looking. There is no option to exclude vehicles with no price. Therefore I can't recommend it as a vehicle search tool.

Deceptive
November 15, 2020

I responded to a few car ads- for new cars- when dealers contacted me- the price they advertised was suddenly increased by at least $3,000 beyond original quote. Dealers began to itemize everything on the car, window tint etc... as reasons for the increase. When they got through, the deal, was no deal at all. I consider that technique annoying and a waste of time for the customer to offer a bogus deal with no intention of follow through.

I found a truck i want to buy, i contact the seller, she sends to me the info im looking for. Then the $#*! hits the fan. Before i can read the sellers response you want a photo of my drivers license? Srsly? Now when I'm trying to get back to the seller to ask her to resend her answer, your software wont let me since it thinks my zip code is wrong? WHAT? Its correct. At any rate i wasted waay too much time on this, if I could give less then 1 star for the site operations i would. Sorry for everyone who is listing to this site.

They offer dealers a "free trial", during which time, the dealer gets a handful of responses that are all fake. Serious car buyers don't email dealers and ask for the carfax or say "I'm interested" without a phone number or valid email address. In fact, most serious buyers show up to get the car they want before someone else beats them to it. A serious car buyer calls to say what time they are coming and confirm you hold the vehicle. Cargurus fake leads generated by a computer as evident in the fake names (Mohammed Jones, Harpreet Abdullah, Hassan Simpson, Joseph Abdelrahman (Catholic, Muslim, Sikh & Protestant names together-FAKE)
The fake leads made by Cargurus cheap generator, spit out a few and of course never ever, in any case, reply back. Then Cargurus calls the dealer after a few months saying "we see you've had 8 leads and are calling to offer you a special deal of $1200 per month for prime advertising"
Cargurus, GFY

Poor customer service
October 12, 2020

I ran across a glitch with their website that would not allow me to post my car. I have tried to email and call and fix the problem using their FAQs and nothing works. So frustration. Going to Auto trader.

They tried the fake-it-til-you-make-it technique of sending fake leads to car dealers with fake buyer names such as "Fred Abdallah" & "Mohammed Smith"...(Christian & Muslim names together) & Alicianic Debuty & stupid fake names like that. The fake leads say they're interested, while providing no phone # or email, making you have to reply through cargurus, then never reply again. After about 5 fake leads, a cargurus rep calls you to say now that you're getting leads, you have to pay $600/mth. Bull crap is what this site is.
At least if you're going to lie, hire some professionals to do it.

Totally not accurate
September 15, 2020

They go by how much they get paid by the dealer. This company is fake with fake deals. If you look deep in the market you find better priced vehicles listed on cargurus from different or smaller dealers. You can't find it on the home page I think cuz they don't pay them as much as big dealers

Phantom Listings
September 9, 2020

I ran a search for a 2016 Mercedes C300 4Matic for a 250 mile radius. The search returned over 100 ads so I sorted by lowest price. Low and behold this one dealership in Elizabeth NJ had over 10, all of them white, all of them with black interior, all with various miles and all within $900 of one another.
I put in an inquiry on Monday (Labor Day) and received ZERO communication on Tuesday from the dealership. I put in two more requests Tuesday by noon and received ZERO feedback from the dealership. Cargurus was terrorizing me with BOT texts the entire day. I called the dealership three times to no avail finally Tuesday evening a text came from the dealership stating they had no Mercedes C300s in stock.
According to the lady that finally called, after I wrote a review of their dealership on Google, its been a long while since they had any in stock. Really, on Monday they had a dozen and were closed for the holiday and by Tuesday morning they are all gone? The ads are still up, still on Cargurus, still on Facebook, et al and the same trick is being played on everyone. In fact to find one I had to ELIMINATE Cargurus from my search so I could find actual cars that are really for sale.

I listed my car on Cargurus. I had a buyer lined up who said they wanted to do the deal remotely using CarGurus PAY (their online "Escrow" service - great idea, but it doesn't work). I went through all the steps, submitted all my personal information, DL photo, bank information, only to have their platform FAIL repeatedly to complete the final step of linking to my bank. It's a huge, National Bank, I don't have a lien, either - I tried a second bank - same problem. Support was UTTERLY USELESS. No phone number, just email, and after several emails, the guy says, "it appears we might not be able to help you with your transaction". Well, No Sh*t. He suggested calling the DMV? AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

We would highly recommend this establishment! At the time of purchase, we had some issues with our bank & their loan policy & yet these gentleman remained patient, calm & professional until everything was finalized.
They provided us with a generous extended warranty that gave us peace of mind on a quality vehicle which was a challenging combination to find at other dealerships.

This is the first time in years I've seen my husband so happy & satisfied purchasing a vehicle & we have Bumble Auto to "Thank"!

I had the worst experience with one of the car dealers advertising on Cargurus. When they asked me to post a review about my experience, I told of how the dealership raised the price of the car by $200.00 once they realized that I wanted to buy & after I acquired financing. CarGuru rejected my posting 3 times because they said that I accused the dealership. I only told the truth about my experience and have the pre-approval sheet showing the original price $200.00 less. Instead of CarGuru looking into the negative dealings of the dealership CarGuru continually buried my review. SHAME on CarGru!

Deceptive advertising
August 6, 2020

Drove 2 hours to see a car that was not as pictured on the site and did not have the equipment as stated in the ad. Dealer advised me that they do not directly post on Cargurus and have nothing to do with what is posted on their site.

Responded to an add on CarGurus Canada. Dealer review for this add almost perfect five stars. Visited the dealer, test drive the vehicle and told the sales person
I will get back to him if I decided to buy. Next day I got 12 credit inquiries on my credit report from various finance companies and dealers. To test drive Sales person took photo copy of my drivers license use my personal info submitted credit applications to all over world without my consent. When I try to review about this dealer on CarGurus my reviews rejected, when I contacted CarGurus I was told in order to submit review I have to Initiate dealer contact using CarGurus which exactly that's how I contacted the dealer in the first place. I even send copies of sales leads from CarGurus to car gurus customer service. No response from CarGurus what's so ever. Clearly CarGurus cooking up all these dealer reviews not allowing legit customers to post negative reviews. What a scam!

AVOID
August 2, 2020

Terrible experience and a waste of money. If you post your car on CarGurus, and list it even a penny over what CarGurus software thinks it's worth, they flag the ad with a Big'OVERPRICED' alert to perspective buyers. Secondly, you better hope your car sells in the first few days as the site also alerts perspective buyers how many days the seller has been trying to sell the vehicle... so the longer it takes to sell, the less desirable it looks to perspective buyers. Guess this is the way Gurus milks the seller out of $29.95 every few days to renew and make a fresh ad! AVOID!

I purchased a used 2008 Honda Accord at Premium Motors in Louisville Ky. I must say I had a great experience. I took the car on a test drive twice and had it inspected. Only a small issue found. I was very impressed a 6month warranty was offered for free with no deductible or out of pocket expense. Eric was awesome!

CarGurus is a joke
July 21, 2020

I payed $29.95 to CarGurus to sell my car. I had a buyer and when we tried to complete the sale the sale price was wrong. I emailed CarGurus several times and finally got a response a day later. It did not answer my question. I then left several voicemails to customer service and they never called back. They blew my sale and the excuse was they were in a transition period. I would stay away from them, because they have zero customer service.
