This site is a total waste of time and money. I am the mother of 3 adult children. I have worked as a registered nurse in the area of neonatal intensive care, labor and delivery and am a board certified lactation consultant. After a recent injury my doctors encouraged me to no longer be a bedside nurse due to the heavy lifting involved. I decided to look for a family and put my care taking abilities in the form on nanny instead of nurse. I responded to multiple ads for newborn care, many who specifically requested someone college educated with medical background. I got responses from families immediately who wanted to interview me. As soon as I would respond with a private email address or phone number however, that was the end of all communication. While I had a premium account set up, those I was communicating with apparently did not as care.com stopped my messages from going through. I know this for a fact as one of the families happened to know a friend of mine and confirmed that none of my additional emails had been received. This company is a joke. I'm not sure how they get way with doing this sort of business.
I was looking for qualified individuals to care for 3 special needs dogs. When individuals started responding, I found I could not communicate with them unless I "upgraded" and purchased a membership with automatic renewal. This is a very dubious practice. I wanted to inform those individuals that I no longer needed their service - it is only fair to them...
This is poor business practice and after reading other reviews regarding the automatic renewal process and the cancellation of accounts without notice, I am surprised they are 1) still in business and 2) not under investigation for fraud.
Hello Karen, I apologize that you had a hard time finding a job on our site. As you mentioned, families will need to purchase a subscription in order to contact caregivers on the site however, it is an optional feature for the caregivers and not required to purchase a subscription to find jobs on the site.
We also want our members to be aware of our auto renewal policy which is why we disclose it on our enrollment page. Moreover, per policy, Care.com reserve the right to remove an account for any reason and if there has been any violation of our terms. I hope this was helpful and clarified everything!
I feel like an idiot. Why did I bother with a premium account? Seems like these job postings are NOT legit. These people never hire anyone or even frequent the site... hmmm! It's downgrade time, 2 days in!
Hello Tammy,
I apologize for the lack of responses you have been receiving from job postings. To help increase your chances of being hired, we encourage all care providers to pay close attention to the job application. By mentioning a few details from the job posting in your application and describing how you can fulfill those requirements, you will show a potential employer that you carefully read and understand their needs and that you have a strong interest in the position. Moreover, adding reviews, references, and a background check increase the strength of your profile and makes your profile stand out. I hope this helpful and good luck on the job search!
I had 3 seemingly legitimate contacts from my profile post in the last 3 yrs but i never paid a fee. I only did the free profile. I did get the feeling from a couple of other contacts that they were not legit because they couldnt describe what they were looking for and then they called back a couple minutes later to say they found someone.
Hello Tina,
I apologize if the prospective clients that got in touch with you were not clear with their intentions. However, I assure you that we have several members on the site who are looking a variety of care services and have something in mind when searching for care.
Furthermore, great tip! I would definitely like to add to make sure that all contacts with members are within our site. This is also great to know if they are legitimate members and not anyone claiming they are from Care.com. I hope this was helpful and wish you luck on future endeavors!
I wish that I had read reviews of this company before I decided to contact them. There's no need for me to go into any further details about this company or their dubious business practices and services beyond that which dissatisfied clients already have delineated clearly in the majority of reviews that appear on SiteJabber. Suffice it to say that I closed my account.
Hello Norton,
I apologize for your negative experience with us. Feel free to comment on what the specific issue was and I'll do my best to assist you. I look forward in hearing your response!
Care.com went in and suspended my account over a false allegation by rent a center of theft of leased property. I was never arrested and the case at the local magistrates office was dismissed. I advised them of this and they still closed my account which I never used and I am the one in search of a nanny.
Hello L. M.
I apologize for the inconvenience, however, per our policy anytime a case appears on a background check, regardless of the outcome, it results in an immediate suspension from the service. If the case is not linked to you at all, you are allotted 90 days to take care of this issue or your account will be removed. I hope you found this information helpful!
DO NOT USE FOR! MONTH, YOU ARE SET TO AUTO RENEW! IT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD DEAL< AND I EVEN HAD A DISCOUNT FOR 1 MONTH. LO AND BEHOLD I AM AUTO RENEW. THERE WEBSITE IS TERRIBLE TO ACTUALLY GIVE YOU ANY INFO AND THEY DON"T WANT TO GIVE REFUNDS. FREAKING RIDICULOUS IN 2014 THAT A COMPANY CAN BE DO SNEAKY. THEY THEN WANT TO BLAME YOU AND SAY THAT IT"S IN THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. MAYBE IF THEY DID NOT HIDE IT IN ALL THE CONDITIONS, PEOPLE COULD ACTUALLY KNOW.
Hello Jennifer,
I apologize you did know about our auto renewal policy. We certainly want our members to be made aware which is why we disclose this information on the enrollment page. Furthermore, we always allow our members to set their account to cancel anytime before their next billing date. I hope this information was helpful and we appreciate the feedback!
I signed up for care.com on June 20 using a promotional code for one month of service at a discounted price. Then today I logged in to check my bank balance and noticed I had a charge from them for $41. I was not aware that they would be charging me again, as far as i was concerned my account had been reduced to a free account as it was before I did the one month paid. After searching the internet it would appear that I'm not the only one who Care.com was able to get with this cleverly hidden auto charge. Not to mention that the one person I tried to use from the site, was late to get my kids from the bus all three times I attempted to use her. If anyone wants to discuss this my email is *******@gmail.com
Hello Tommy,
Sorry for the negative experience, we always want our members to be aware of our policy so we disclose this information on our enrollment page before anyone purchases a subscription. After taking a look into your account, I noticed a representative was able to refund your recent charge and cancel your subscription. Glad you were able to get in touch with a representative and I do hope you find someone who is best suitable to take care of your kids!
Billing Scam (Extremely Misleading)
You think you are signing up for a 1/6/12 month subscription, but it's reoccurring. Why would you need to define the time period of your subscription twice? They know they are making money from people (like me).
Unable to find a contact phone number on their site, I googled it and called customer service. No supervisor is available and billing will get back to you within a week. So, we all know where this is going... Yes, no one is getting their money back.
A website that is suppose to help people (a lot of exhausted moms) find good help... No, they are a site that takes advantage that you only got 3 hours of sleep for the past few months and that you don't read fine print, just the clearly transparent membership of ONE MONTH SUBSCRIPTION. (even says the same thing on my banking transactions)
Hello Susan, as you mentioned all of our subscriptions automatically renew, which we disclose to our members so they are made aware of this policy. Furthermore, we allow our members to cancel their subscription anytime before their next billing date. I'm sorry for the negative experience, but feel free to message me your email address and I can take a look into the account for you.
Careful about this site! They will automatically send you emails from caregivers that are NOT available, without this caregivers's consent or knowledge! While trying to find a new caregiver we received applications from our CURRENT caregiver, without her consent! Also, they changed the details of my job posting! They changed the dates in the title without my consent or approval! Someone had to do this manually and deliberately at care.com. WHAAAAAT?
Hello T D,
We will always send you notifications of new caregivers near your area, meaning that they either recently created a profile or indicated within their status that they are available. Additionally, all caregivers willingly applies to job posting if they feel they are right for the position. Lastly, all edits made by members must go through an approval process, we never make any changes to an account without the consent and knowledge of the member. I hope this information was helpful!
I loved the idea behind it and I found many jobs that I would of loved to take. But their staff, really f***ing sucks. I being a caregiver, had a picture but I went to delete it and add a new one and I guess caregivers are supposed to have a photo 24/7 because I lost connection to the website and when I tried to re log and it said the account was terminated and it is irreversible and they can't give me a straight answer. Just that I couldn't fix it. Complete bullsh*t.
Hello Timothy,
I apologize for the removal, Care.com does reserve the right to remove anyone for any reason and due to this policy we can not disclose as to why the account has been closed. However, send me a message and I'll take a look into it for you and try my best to assist you.
We signed up for a 3-month membership and never found care through this service. We just found out that care.com has been billing our credit card for 3-years! They also never send an e-mail receipt so that you can be aware of these charges. No response from them for a credit. What a scam!
Hello Boyana,
I apologize if you missed our auto renew policy, we always disclose this policy on the enrollment page so our members can be made aware. Feel free to message me with your email address and I can certainly take a look into the account for you!
Most providers listed are not responding. Be careful care.com will automatically renew the membership without notice. It is not recommended.
Hello Eskander,
As you mentioned, all of our subscriptions automatically renews until cancel. We disclose this on our enrollment page so our members can be aware of this policy. Furthermore, I apologize for the lack of responses you have been receiving. I would recommend posting a job on the site so that interested providers can come to you instead. I hope this was helpful and best of luck on the hiring!
Actually I have found several jobs through care.com, & one of my employers who decided to
To quit her job to have more bonding time with her infants while they are still young paid for me to have premium membership which puts you at top ratings. I was also sent free business cardsto promote me & I have been awarded over $75 amazon gift cards for referrals. They are not racist either as I can tell you I am more than 3 nationalities.
Hello Amada,
Many thanks for the wonderful review! Glad to hear that you had a positive experience using us, good luck on the job search and hope you find more great positions with us!
I know why those of you who are looking for good help to care for your children or loved one is having trouble finding someone. The people who run Care.com are RACIST. I don't even think that they run background checks either. My wife, a woman originally from Thailand had her account cancelled for no apparent reason after attempting to apply for one of the jobs on their site. She is very qualified having worked with children and a professional daycare center for several years. The kids adore her and the parents love her too. But, when they saw a clue that pointed to the fact that she wasn't a Caucasian they cancelled her account. However, if you are white, and want to scam other people for their money then sure - you can contact other users of Care.com.
Hello Jared,
We do apologize about the experience, there are many reasons an account would be closed, but we assure you that ethnicity would never be one of them. We typically don’t give reasons why an account is removed, but we’d be happy to look in to the account if you want to email [email protected]. Furthermore, we offer background checks within the site to ensure a safe environment. I hope this information was helpful and feel free to email us anytime.
I am a professional nanny with over 30 yrs experience and professional references out the wazoo. I have applied to over 35 jobs in my area and as of today, I am still looking.
The only two individuals that contacted me were individuals trying to scam me. The first wanted to send me a check to cash and pay for an electric wheelchair. After telling her I would not be her banker for the chair, that was the end of that prospect. I got another text (a
My phone number is not listed on care.com) from a gentlemen in CA. With the same broken dialect as the first scammer. None of his information was valid either. I even paid extra to be highlighted. Right. What a scam. Do NOT give them your credit card info.
HORRIBLE COMPANY. I opened an account in March and didn't use it right away. I went in today because I need a pet sitter for Friday. I paid for a month subscription and it was debited from my account. A few minutes later they sent me an email stating they terminated my membership and can do so for no reason at all. However, they took my money. I called and that was a maze and when I finally got a real person he was scripted and non-caring about what happened and said he would send a list of reasons I can terminated, further he said they would issue a reimbursement but it would take 3-5 business days to get back on my account. For all the commercials and such they have, this is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE BUSINESS. I am reporting them to the BBB.
Hey Kim, although we do reserve the right to remove any member for any reason, I do apologize that your account has been closed. We have this policy in place for safety and security purposes, despite that, we still want everyone to have a positive experience. I'm glad that you have been issued your refund and I do hope nothing but the best in your future endeavors!
Make sure you cancel after you are done using it because they will keep charging you and they refuse to refund the money. They billed my card for 3 months even though I only signed up for 1 month and they refused to give me my money back.
Hello Erin, as you mentioned, all of Care.com's subscription automatically renews until cancel, which is something we disclose to our members on the enrollment page so they can be aware of it. I apologize if you missed that explanation, however, feel free to message me with your email address and I will happy to take a look into it for you!
The tablet and mobile sites stink. Almost unusable. Get an app or fix your mobile experience
The fact that you have to pay to contact someone is ridiculous.
It's a joke and Waste of time. Sure let me pay 40.00 so I can hire someone?!?!
Hello Caroline,
We offer a free Basic Membership option so that our members can browse the site and view the profiles of actual care providers in their area before making a financial commitment. We want to make sure that you get a chance to see if there are qualified candidates first. So as part of the trial, you are able to post a job and preview care provider responses. We believe this is a fair option that allows our members to make an informed decision about whether to invest in our services. Hope this was helpful!
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars

Hello Traci, I'm sorry for the hard time finding a job within the site. Although it is up to the family if they want to respond to you, Care.com is still a great place to find a job. It is also free to look for jobs on the site, our premium subscription is an optional feature that give our members additional benefits. I hope this information was helpful and best of luck on the job search!
