My 18 daughter was almost scammed on care.com. She was telling me how she was hired for a job, the check came in the mail over the weekend. She is suppose to buy toys for the little girl she is going to baby sit for and send the remainder of the money back to the toy seller. The person who hired her was Bryden Buckner. Its being turned over to police. The bank manager said it was good her mom was watching out for her or she would owe $2660. 00 to the Bank. Now she can't get a hold of the person who hired her. Don'fall for this scam. My daughter said I over dramatized everything. Then she thanked me when the bank manager said she would in the middle of a fraud ring and could have gone to jail herself.
Was looking for a dependable person to look after my mom and care.com filled that role. I am very happy!
Their check out system switched me from quarterly to monthly billing during the checkout process. They offered a discount and then changed the terms during the checkout process to dupe me and perhaps many others, into monthly billing at a significantly higher rate. This form of bait and switch appears to be a very common practice for this company and is clearly a program issue built into the functionality of their site as it was not a selection that I had made.
Upon notification and a request to honor the discount, they refused and continued to bill me at the higher monthly rate despite my objections. I had reported the issue to their "customer care" team multiple times, including just after the initial order. After waiting nearly a week for response they simply placed blame on me. Efforts to pointed specifics within their check out functionality were met with hubris responses. E.g. Rebeca "This will be our final communication on this matter. "I do not think I have ever seen such an unresponsive and embolden company when it comes to customer service.
Considering what there company does, one would think corporate ethics would be a priority but apparently they are not. This is not a company that anyone should trust, especially when it involves a loved one.
You sign up for a month and they bill you for a monthly subscription service they don't tell you about. Check out bbb.org. You'll see.
I have had a profile for years on care. I used to get jobs so quickly on his site. Now it's full of fake jobs. Beware there are multiple postings for the same job and they all have the same wording. I apply and get no answer and I'm an experienced childcare worker for the past 13 years. I swear 2 out of 25 postings are real jobs. Care doesn't give a crap about who they let post a job. I have personally spoke to someone from care.com and they don't seem to care about the issue. Terrible site
Berginia Berrette in west palm Beach Florida is the best nanny/babysitter. She is passionate, She worked for my husband and i for about 3 years and we never had an issue with her. She is respectful and great with kids. The kids loved her. She was always on time. I would definitely recommend her. She made our lives easier. She was always here when we needed her, she is a natural. We just love her.
Anyone can put a profile on this site and say whatever they want about themselves. Not a good way to find someone to look after your child or pet!
Also, there is no way to actually contact anyone in customer service. You can fill out a form and hope they get back to you, but if you actually have an issue it is very frustrating to try to get it resolved.
You have to create an account with your email BEFORE they tell you it cost $35/month. Now I am swamped with annoying emails all day. Yes, I went back to the site and changed my email preferences but I was told it takes 10 DAYS to stop recieving them. How annoying! I get like 10 emails an hour!
The only persons that try to get in contact with you are scammers.
I signed up for ONE month of service last May 2014. Unknowingly, I was then charged monthly for a year until now, $40/mo. WHY would I choose the one month option if I wanted it for a year +? I talked to the care.com representative who was not helpful, she gave me credit for 1 month. Big deal, I've wasted more than $500 on this and only used it 2 times! Yes I should check my bank statements more often but I had no idea they would keep charging me. When you sign up for 1 month, it shouldn't automatically renew every month, totally misleading wording, I am LIVID! Supposed to get a call or email back from a supervisor later today. If I don't get a refund I'm thinking of filing a small claims suit.
No one ever responds & they'll keep contacting you even after you subscribe from emails. Not to mention the constant requesting to "boost" your profile. Thanks for nothing.
As a person that requires caregiver help, I have used this site for over two years with excellent results. I have hired 4 part-time helpers, 2 are still with me. It takes patience to find the right person. Check references and use common sense when interviewing. It's been a very good resource for me.
We signed up for care.com to find an au pair for our children. We agreed to pay the premium service fee as a one-off payment. The service was not as good as the other ones we were using so we stopped using it immediately and simply forgot about it, writing off the £59 charge for their so-called 'premium' service.
We are completely shocked to find that they have charged us 3 additional times. I work in technology and am a regular user of eCommerce and cannot believe that I missed a legitimate explanation that it is for an 'ongoing' premium service.
I have raised a dispute with the card company, and after reading the other poor reviews below am very worried about the unjustified £177 they have charged me.
Care.com mislead me regarding payments and service. I signed up for a ONE month service and paid the ONE month service price. I was advised that the service was ONLY for one month and would cancel after one month. However, they continued to bill me for 3 more months. I tired calling and e-mailing and it took two months to actually get them to stop charging me. They only refunded me for last month and not the three they overcharged me for. I will NEVER use this service again! They made it so difficult to contact me and they ignored they previous requests! DON"T USE THEM!
Hi Debbie, All of our subscriptions do auto-renew until set to downgrade. We like our members to be aware of this when subscribing which is why we state it twice on the upgrade page and once in our Terms of Use, but I apologize if you missed this. You have the ability to set your account to downgrade at the end of the billing cycle at any point throughout your membership. When you upgrade if you wish to only have the services for one subscription period I would recommend you set your account to downgrade the same day as upgrading. This feature automatically downgrades your account at the end of the billing cycle, so you do not have to remember to do so manually. Follow these steps to help you downgrade:
Go to your “Account & Settings”
Scroll down to the “Membership Information” section
Select the “Downgrade” option
Follow all prompts until reaching a page that says “Account Successfully Downgraded”
I hope these steps will help other members downgrade successfully, and all members will keep in mind that when members upgrade they are subscribing to a auto-renewal service. I will definitely make a note of your feedback.
My child care business has been on Care.com for years with great reviews. Today I had a parent who has been here only two weeks call me and say he wants a refund because his wife wants a friend to babysit. I told him I don't give refunds, but i will let him give one week notice instead of two. He told me that he would report me to Care.com if I did not refund his money. Forty-five minutes later I received an email saying my membership has been terminated from the site and no reason will be given. Really? That's how you treat your customers?
YES, why does the employee have to pay? Isn't that illegal? You Care.com should be doing your OWN background checks it is riducious that the employee has to take on that responsibility and subscribe to what? Very disappointed! I will be existing out of your job site!
Hi Mariaelena, As a Provider you do have the ability to run background checks on yourself to make your profile more marketable to potential employers, however it is not required. Often times Seeker's will request to run a background on potential employees for their own peace of mind, in this case the Seeker will be billed for this background check. Providers also have the ability to upgrade their subscription to become a “Featured Caregiver”, but again it is not required. Some benefits Providers receive when upgrading their include but are not limited to highlighted profiles in search results, higher search result ranking, priority job notifications, and free preliminary background checks.
A friend suggested I use them for a background check on a caretaker.
I paid 135 - got no usable info. Tried for days to contact care.com without success
Now they have charged my Amex 2 more times without my knowledge or consent.
Don't ever use them!
Care.Com doesn't protect my information. I don't even have my phone number verified or shown to the public on my profile yet care.Com requires that I have it so that fraud people can text me asking them to email them because they are deaf or some bull crap and then want me to cash a check prior to their arrival.
My advice take the check, play them back, and turn it into the police instead. It's hard enough to find jobs on care.Com as is this kind of behavior and lack of privacy is just very dissapointing I am not enthused with care.Com at all I asked for a removal of my profile immediately
Crap site
Hi Crista, Care.com does not disclose any personal information about any accounts to anyone other than that member themselves. The only way the public can receive your information through Care.com is having it public to the site which you have the ability to control in your Privacy Settings, or by members messaging it directly to potential employers. Care.com takes safety very seriously and strongly encourages members to report any and all fraudulent activity to our Member Care Team via email at [email protected] or phone at (877)-227-3115.
It is true that some untrustworthy people look for people to take advantage of, but that's not the fault of Care.com. That would be like blaming the phone company because you get prank calls.
I got my current job through the site after posting my profile. I used my own judgement and discretion, to meet my current employer and her son in a public place (if the person is ill and not able to travel outside the home, you can take someone with you, with them waiting outside, or in the car for security, since some people may be dishonest, and place a fake ad. (They could do the same through other means, though). I interviews with my client, and her son, a lawyer, and started working the next week. She pays a good rate, so I earn nearly twice as much per hour as caregiving agencies pay in my area. We can also work out our schedules directly with each other, instead of going through an agency, and she chooses to give my several paid holidays, and vacation days every year.
I am and experienced, quality caregiver, but was frustrated with agencies getting such a big cut of the expensive rate they charge clients.
It is clear that both the employer and employee need to make provisions on checking references, whatever is necessary to establish a solid trusting relationship.
Care.com is not an agency, it just helps caregivers connect independently with those in need of services.
Hi Tamra, We are so happy to hear you found such a great job! You made some really great points. People do not recognize we are a self-service website where Care Seekers have the ability to connect with local Care Providers. We like to provide our members with the tools for finding great jobs or Caregivers, but expect our members to be smart and safe when it comes to meeting someone they do not know. Care.com takes safety very seriously and we encourage our members to do so as well. As for expectations for the job, those should be discussed directly to your employer or employee. If you have safety concerns please report them to our Member Care Team at [email protected] or (877)-227-3115. As for good or bad experiences leave members reviews on their profile, this will help everyone in the Care.com community find the perfect family or Caregiver they are looking for! We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors!
I paid $47 per month for 6 months, and sent out over 20 emails to the nannies listed, but only got 2 response, and they looked like the nanny created by the computer instead of real one. After generic conversation with them, you never get any more response when you are trying to get to details.
Thanks God, I find mine and finally cancelled this GREAT service! Really think this is created by a IT person instead of real nannies.
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars

Hi Dude, You are correct all of our subscriptions do auto-renew until they are set to downgrade. However, we want our members to be aware of this, which is why we state it twice on the upgrade page and again in our Terms of Use. Our members have the ability to set their account to downgrade at the end of the billing cycle at any point throughout their membership with us. You can find this option in your "Account & Settings" under Membership Information.
