Thank you to everyone on this forum for their honest review of Care.com, and let me just add another voice to the chorus by saying that this company is indeed a complete sham. Yup, every one of these negative reviews is correct. I just cancelled both my account and my credit card only one week after creating a profile. There is nothing free about this service. You need to create an account just to view profiles. And if you want to contact either people providing or seeking services, you need to pay a monthly membership fee, which I see from countless posts is almost impossible to cancel. After just seven days Im out $70 for a DMV/criminal check, and Ive been contacted twice via text from scammers, even though my phone number was not visible on the website. Moreover, no background checks are done on individuals looking for providers, so anyone offering services is vulnerable to a host of nightmarish scenarios. And Care.com will take no responsibility for anything that goes wrong. Please learn from my mistake and first research any service you plan to join. I am pissed off beyond words, but Im so grateful to everyone who commented on this disgraceful company and spared me from any further damage.

Care.com is a total scam! I was looking for a tutor for my daughter. You have to sign up for a membership before you can even communicate with potential tutors or caregivers. I signed up for one month which was $40.00. Total waste of money because I emailed several potential tutors and none of them even responded! So, I posted the job to try to find my daughter a tutor and got absolutely NO responses from anyone! Total and complete waste of my time and money. You should be allowed to cancel your membership and get a refund if you weren't able to find someone to help you!

Scam!
March 22, 2016

My 18- year old daughter has had communication with a "Hillary Wright". She received a check for well over $2500 for a weeks worth of pay($350/wk) and the rest to be used for "toiletries and other household items". I am disappointed and disgusted in your website that now this scammer has my daughters information that she listed on your website. I believe that there should be a more in-depth registration process so that an inexperienced and naïveté person does not get taken advantage of. Very disappointing.

Scam!
March 21, 2016

I had a account with them years ago I never had much luck with it so I believe I canceled my membership and my account went inactive for a while. Recently I wanted to sign back up to look for some part time work (this is years later) but I would keep getting a error code. I emailed customer service just to receive what I thought to be a rude response back. Pretty much stating a list of reasons why they may have cancelled my account although really as stated in their policy they can cancel my membership for NO REASON. I mean really no reason, what kind of business would be cancelling someone's membership for no reason. Oh, and it goes on to say that you can never open another account with them and that is final. It makes no sense to me especially when the first three reasons on the list are small and petty. DON'T WAIST YOUR TIME OR MONEY!

Waste of time
March 19, 2016

I would never recommend that anyone sign up for Care.com. Ever since I registered I have been plagued with text message scams. I tried to hide my phone number on my account but apparently there is no way to do that- or if there is, they make it very difficult. Of all the jobs I applied to, I think I heard back from one person. So basically, if you sign up for Care.com, you are signing yourself up for someone to try to scam you at least once a week. Beyond that, there is basically zero protection for sitters. Families have access to all of your information (like the $10 background check) but you can't see anything about them- usually not even their full name! It's absolutely ridiculous. This website does not have proper security measures in place and does not seem to value the security of sitters' personal information at all. Do yourself a favor and avoid Care.com.

Unsatisfactory
March 18, 2016

I've been using care.com for a while now and it sucks in every way that count. I would honestly like to know if there's anyone that's ever gotten a job linking up with this site. The only responses you ever seem to get is from fake posters trying to scam you. I've asked numberless amount of ppl if they got jobs registering up with care, and the answer is always the same. I believe they need to do a bttr screening of ppl trying to find care givers then maybe the ppl really in search of help can get to contacting a real person.

I am seething with anger because I happened to post another nanny job on care.com thinking since my account was "supposedly" cancelled back in August when I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP, to my surprise I was wondering why I was able to respond to these nannies. Typically you have to pay in order to do that. APPARENTLY, THEY HAVE BEEN BILLING ME MONTHLY FOR THE PAST 7 MONTHS since I did in fact call and cancel! HOW SHADY! I NEVER have my credit card on auto renew and so therefore I was adiment about cancelling within the auto renew time frame. Some customer service rep did not do their job and fullfill my request. They never provided any statement or receipt on anything! What kind of business practice is that? It's time that a class action lawsuit be brought against this deceptive so called "business." If I don't hear back from a customer service rep with a refund I am ready to pursue legal action. And from reading the countless reviews on the BBB I will assume most are willing to join me.

Money trap and scam
March 12, 2016

I signed up for one month charge only. The account automatically renewed and kept on charging with no paper or email notice. I would like to see an honest business. How can they do this to a busy mom who is barely keeping up with all the bills?

Worthless
March 12, 2016

First point is, you are unable to contact the owner to make suggestions. She obviously thinks she's got a perfect site. Not so. Most of the people looking for a job are... Unprofessional as a nanny. They think it's a babysitting job and make demands as to what they want to be paid. Without any formal training. I've used many nannies and everyone fails terribly to pay attention to the details of child rearing even with the so called contract. When you fire them, you are back to the horrible search to useless nannies. Which they balk at the thought of being interviewed. I would be a complete insane person to not interview a candidate who could potentially harm or mold my child into a criminal or drug addict. This is a serious job and one not taken lightly. Just because you watched a kid in the neighborhood does not give you the right to claim you are a professional. In any professional job, you belong to an organization with credentials. Daycare providers and schools belong to an organization and the teachers are certified in child care with a degree. Now imagine the undertaking a nanny must meet. Sorry, but I'm not seeing anyone who even knows Emily Post, and that she wrote a book on etiquette. Nannies are willing to bath children, teach them manners, heat food up prepared by a chef without complaining, clip the kids nails, brush their hair and teeth, and be a great role-model without imposing their views on the kids. Since I'm not able to inform a creator of a site that "promises" the ease of finding such a talent, it's a poor reflection on their company. It would be wise to inform these talentless people what it actually means to be a professional nanny, so we busy 12 hours a day "working" mothers can get a respectable candidate worth even interviewing. We don't have time to waste searching through people who have a no clue what a nanny does verse a babysitter, or the going rate per hour for a nanny. I don't make what they are asking, so why would I even hire you!

Great experience!
March 12, 2016

I am a caregiver and also a mom. I have found 3 wonderful families through this site to sit for, all have been great experiences. I do pay for the background check simply because I would want that if looking for care for my own children. Care.com has never deleted my account, they did upgrade their website and because I was "hidden" at the time I could not access my profile. I sent a quick message to customer service and they fixed it immediately. I also encourage caregivers as well as parents to post a picture of yourself or your family, I have only applied to positions with a picture simply because it gives you a small connection before meeting, it just makes the experience more personable.

Care.com's billing practices are highly deceptive and they take advantage
Of busy, working parents. They will drain your bank account when you're not looking.

If you feel like you have been ripped off, follow this link and file a complaint with the attorney general of Massachusetts:

This company needs to be investigated and the founders should be jailed.

I own and operate a pet care business. I provide pet sitting, dog walking, pet transportation, etc. I thought it would be a good idea to list my business on care.com to see if I could supplement my existing customer base. In the year that I have had my business profile listed, I have not acquired a single customer from care.com

I recieve e-mails frequently (sometimes 3-4 times per week) from care.com listing all of the potential customers seeking pet services, but I have never been contacted by any of them. Often times the same people supposedly looking for a dog walker or pet sitter in my area are listed for weeks upon weeks. Am I expected to believe these people are just sitting there waiting for a provider to contact them while they struggle along without services? Why don't these alleged customers ever look up the service providers listed in their area and contact THEM? If I needed refrigerator repair or air conditioning repair, or I wanted to schedule cable or satellite activation, I wouldn't list my needs and then sit around the house with no AC, no food, and no television until somebody contacted me begging for the job... I'm the guy with the small business, if you need services, pick.up the phone and call the number or click on the e-mail address and schedule a free consultation. In what world do the service providers call the consumers? Am I missing something?

After reading other reviews of care.com, I'm convinced none of these customers are real, which would explain why they just pop up week after week in my service area ( a service area where no other pet sitters or dog walkers operate by the way) just waiting for someone to contact them to solve their problem.

Sorry, my days of responding to help wanted ads were over a long time ago. I didn't build a successful small business so I could "apply" for work. I'm the boss. If you need my services, you call me.

If you are a service provider, I highly recommend saving your time and energy and skipping care.com altogether. I suppose it can't hurt to list your business just to have another link on the web for search engine optimization purposes, but don't expect care.com to drive any actual business your way. The only thing it will drive your way is a bunch of spam e-mails that you have to delete every other day.

Our family loves Care.com. Not only have we gotten care for our child, but my wife even did some nannying part time via Care.com and the experience has been wonderful! When we had a billing issue (my fault) they quickly corrected it as well. We are so happy Care.com exists and hope to use it for years and years to come!

I have copied and re-posted this post, because I echo these thoughts exactly. It speaks perfectly to my experience as a parent. I wish I had looked at care.com reviews online prior to signing up and paying several years of fees to this company. I work in the business world and it is not difficult to see that Care.com is unethical and underhanded in their policies, and that they manipulate their site and image to be more positive than it is in reality. There are so many negative reviews posted all over the internet regarding care.com, if I had seen those first I would never have used this site! And yet, after looking at the complaints online and the responses from customer service, care.com blatantly disregards complaints by consumers. It is disappointing to see the lack of customer service in a company that claims to be a trustworthy and valuable resource for finding reliable caregivers. People with whom you entrust your children, home, and elderly family members. It is especially frightening to see that there are numerous complaints from members that were removed from care.com site after posting a negative review about a caregiver. Care.com states in it's policy that they can close any member's account at any time for any (or no) reason, and that the member will not be informed why their account was closed. This obviously brings up the concern that care.com eliminates members that post honest (but negative) reviews because it looks bad for care.com to have many poorly rated caregivers. It would obviously make their company less attractive to consumers who have to wade through numerous caregivers to find one that is well rated by previous employees. It would also provide a poor impression of the site to new members who see a lot of bad reviews, thus being bad for care.com's business and retaining of customers. I would warn consumers to find another method of searching for caregivers.

Just Not Effective
February 28, 2016

I've lost count of the number of caregivers I've contacted through care.com. I've scheduled countless interviews and we're still without a nanny for our daughter. Simply put, most of the caregivers on care.com are flakes. It's currently 2:16 and yet again, the person we had scheduled to interview is not here (she should have been here at 2:00). Two out of the three people who confirmed they would come today have not shown up.

I'm very frustrated, to say the least. For $45/month care.com should be doing SOME screening of these people. Most of them are clearly not serious. I won't even get into how few of the applicants that applied to our job posting could write in a coherent way...
