I've tried twice to create a profile and complete the process of signing up. After I spent time creating a carefully thought out profile, I got to a screen showing my mother's name and asking if I recognize this, so I clicked continue. The next step had me determine whether I recognized a phone number from a list, a city where I've lived (one of the choices being somewhere I lived in 1981), and a list of street addresses. I answered appropriately, but honestly, I've had so many phone numbers in my life, one of the listed could have been mine at one point. After making those selections, I got a screen that said I was unable to complete my enrollment at this time, with an error code and a link to contact their customer service department, which only led to the FAQ page. In hindsight, I'm wondering how in the world they had my mother's name and the city where I lived in first grade after my providing my email address, address, phone number, and birthdate. Very alarming, indeed.

This is written from the job seeker end. There are very few things you can do on the site without donating money (if you get a subscription, it also auto-renews each month). For certain job positions, it forces you to pay for a background check or you cannot sign up for the service. It also makes you pay in order to get your profile. It is very misleading. The amount of scam emails and texts are alarming. I applied to about 20 jobs and none of them replied, when I have multiple years of experience. Don't waste your time seeking for jobs on this website, though I don't know much about how it works finding them.

The ONLY contact for jobs that I received through care.com were spam texts. Just so you know, NOBODY should offer you a job nannying unless you have first met them AND their children. I would get lots of texts from people claiming to be moving into town soon (red flag) and needed a nanny ASAP for weekends at a ridiculously high pay rate. DO NOT BELIEVE THESE SCAMS!

Also, I paid for a background check, and whatever service care.com oursourced to was also not reputable. My background is clean as a whistle, yet they had trouble with mine... I suspect because I did NOT sign up for the subscription services.

Any reviews need to come from people who already have a care.com account, so unfortunately, many of the people I've babysat for couldn't post a review because they didn't want a care.com account.

My advice: Get to know your neighbors. Post your experience & availability through a Facebook group. You'll have better luck.

I purchased a one year subscription for $156 for care.com. I contacted 2 individuals for a housekeeper position. One person was a no show times two, the second I couldn't understand the slurred speech. I decided to go with a local company. Three days after subscribing Icalled Care and told them I wanted to cancel. After much back and forth they agreed to give me a complete refund. The next month they started charging my credit card again. After an hour on the phone they refuse to cancel the $45 a month they have been charging for 5 months. I'm going to have to cancel the credit card and get a new number. STAY AWAY THIS IS A SCAM

What everyone is saying is correct! I was on the site 4 months. I got no replies to any of my applications, no phone calls, and no offers. I didn't pay for any of the advanced services, Thank God, because from what I can see, they steal from you and you get nothing in return... what did it for me was the constant weekly harassments from fake numbers and employers offering fraudulent jobs or money offers. Goodbye forever Care. Com. I'd never recommend anyone to your site in this lifetime

They continue to bill after you have cancelled your subscription, or at least, did in my case and I see in others too. They do not provide email confirmation of cancellation routinely. I would just say if you are already using this site that it's not enough to cancel via the website's link, you must get written evidence from them that you have cancelled so at least when you need to try to get your money back if you are fraudulently billed later it's a clear case.

Horrible Changes
June 17, 2016

Why did they change the site to where you have to pay for a membership in order to apply for a job and actually be able to communicate with the family? I've been sending out applications for 2 weeks, wondering why no one has responded. If I could afford to pay $20 a month to apply for jobs, I wouldn't need a job.

I have a membership on Care.com as a caregiver. A client sent payment using the WePay service but the payment never posted to my bank account. Care.com says they can't do anything. My bank assures me that the problem is not on their end. I requested a refund of my membership and I was denied. I worked hard and deserved to be paid. This is not the client's fault so I will not ask them for payment.

BEWARE!
June 15, 2016

When providing Care.com with your credit card you will automatically be billed for a one month subscription which AUTO RENEWS. It appears you can cancel without difficulty on the site - though not yet certain the cancellation will go through. A phone number to call Care.com to ensure cancellation is NOT readily available on the site!

SCAM!
June 13, 2016

I would not recommend this site to any body out there, care.com not only put me but my family at risk. I was dealing with a fraud and luckily, they were too suspicious and it aloud me to catch on. Care.com allows any body to view and contact you without having a back ground check themselves, not worth the risk. I was sent a check for $2,470.00 right up front and did some extensive back ground search on the address, name, and phone numbers and it was a scam. Lady said she was moving to my area and needed a nanny to watch her 5 year old daughter name karen who was wheel chair bound but a lot of information I was receiving did not add up, I asked for pictures an a address to the house and they would not give it to me, so I ended up telling them I could no longer work for different reasons

Waisted £19
June 10, 2016

At first I thought Care.com was great you can sign up for free... my naivety took the better of me... nothing is for free, you have to pay to apply for the jobs (petcare). Which wouldn't be a problem if all the jobs were real and the site was easy to use... since after just 1 day of use the site no longer gave me an option of having a profile picture. This sounds stupid but not many people would accept someones application without at least seeing their face. Basically wasted my money... wish I'd have read these reviews before signing up!

I'm reviewing as a job seeker. Care.com sells itself as an easy and free way to find a job. The website itself typically runs smoothly and all, but it constantly harasses you to upgrade to their paid subscription program. Every single time I pull up my account page and sometimes even just logging in or going to another part of the site, I get an offer to upgrade. There is no "don't ask me again" option so there's no way to make the offers stop and it's very easy to get irritated. I thought that without a paid membership I could apply to listed jobs and the person who listed it could reply back. Seems like a very basic thing right? Wrong. You can apply to the job, but the other person has to have a membership in order to reply to you. If they do happen to reply, you then need a membership in order to even open the next message. You need to pay for the premium version for even basic communication. Why give me the option of sending out a message if I have to pay to see the response? Not cool. It's like they're using the potential of a wasted opportunity or missing out on a job to manipulate you into paying. And providing the job lister or seeker you contact with a private email so you can communicate outside of care.com is strictly prohibited. Very shady. Clearly a way of forcing you to use *their* service so that *they* can profit. Also, I get about five emails from them per day that are basically just advertisements. One came through today at 3 in the morning. I get those, but if someone contacts me about a job, I get nothing whatsoever. Email alerts for when someone messages you come with a paid membership only. They make it extremely difficult to unsubscribe to their daily barrage of useless emails. Basically it's totally not worth it unless you want to pay for every single tiny little feature. From the perspective of a job seeker with no money to pay for the subscription, I found it pretty much unusable.

Do you speak Latin?
June 10, 2016

In the last 10 days I have received 2 responses from parents in Latin using Care.com? Has anyone else received a response from parents in Latin from through Care.com? In small print, a good distance from the message from the parents was the statement, "Upgrade now to view's(their error) application". I sent a reply to the parents asking them to translate their response into English. I also received an "alert" that I was being "downgraded" in my membership status. That was included by an assurance that as a "basic member", I could do just about the same as I could do with my current status. Yet they had already billed me at the higher rate for the month. It had already cleared my credit card. Has anyone experienced the same?

I cancelled my account and they continued to charge me another two times until I called. Luckily I caught the third payment within the window and they refunded me the money. Ask to speak to a supervisor if you are ever in this same situation.

Scammers!
June 9, 2016

I signed up on care.com hoping to find a legit job caring for animals and the first response came through my phone via a fake number from Google, and the scammer posed as a "disabled lady who was moving from California to my area and needed a dog-sitter". "She" sent a cashiers check for over $2,000 and I knew it was a scam. My second response came through my phone the same exact way and it was "a guy moving from Idaho to my area and needed a dog-sitter".

Lessons: Don't put your phone number or Email on random websites and if you still want to apply for care.com, only take responses from the site itself, and even then there is no guarantee there won't be a scammer or two after you. Also, Do Not Ever put a check into your bank account without checking its validity first!
