We had a major pipe burst from the freeze that damaged 75% of our Home
BH Construction Handled all of the work needed to get us back into our home and they even helped with the Insurance Claim process.
Great workmanship and will definitely use them on future projects.

I have hired to do 2 jobs for me. The first was to put a railing on the cellar stairs of rhe house I was selling, he completed the project quickly and it came out better than I expected. I hired him again to build a wall and add a door to rooms in the 200 year old farm house, again his attention to detail was perfect, he reused some of the old boards to finish off the door, it looks like it was always there. Keith does excellent work for a very fair price.

Luke Gilbert is a 5-STAR plumber.
He is highly knowledgeable of new and traditional plumbing techniques. He was professional, respect of our home and always, maintained a strong work ethic. We had many issues when we renovated our home and Luke listened to our needs and concerns. Together, we created solutions and resolved every outstanding problem. Luke is the kind of man, who is honest and his word is of great value. He showed up when he said he would. After a careful inspection, He provided a fair quote, so there was no "low-balling." There were no surprises in his billing. He is accurate, precise and a neat skilled plumber.
Luke is now part of our family and will only call Luke for all our plumbing needs.
Thank you, Luke, for getting us through some scary surprise situations, where tears were in order.
You are our hero! Call Luke Gilbert and see for yourself.

R&D Energy was excellent and worked hand in hand with Spa Brokers installing our hot tub like pros. I was concerned with an installation date of the day before Thanksgiving, but everyone was incredibly professional and worked together very well and amazingly quickly. We even decided to add an outlet to that side of the house for Christmas lights. I highly recommend R&D Energy

Malicious and blackmail
November 19, 2022

Buildzoom has known malicious reviews from malicious and repeat reviewers not in timeline I was in business and they're specifically personal attacks not professional at all

Date of experience: November 18, 2022
Customer S. — BuildZoom Rep
over a year old

Hello Suzee,

When someone goes to leave a review on BuildZoom, we require that they provide us with contact information to ensure the validity of the review. We have a review integrity team that validates every single review that is submitted for a contractor to ensure they are not falsified and that they meet our review requirements.

If a contractor believes that a review is falsified, they can claim their BuildZoom profile and submit a dispute directly from the platform to have the review integrity team reach out to the person who left the review and conduct a further investigation. Keep in mind that submitting a dispute is 100% free and we would never require payment to submit or dispute a review.

By allowing reviews on our website, we can’t act as arbiters or judges — meaning we can’t get involved. All we can do is validate that it was a real person claiming their review is based on a legitimate experience, but we can’t be the judges on how good, bad, or how well aligned to a timeline their review is. This holds true for any website that allows reviews (such as google, Yelp, SiteJabber etc.)

Regardless, it’s in our best interest that contractors have good reviews so we can help property owners find good quality contractors through our website. Finding the best contractors also means we have to accept bad reviews because it helps property owners avoid poorly reviewed contractors, and we have to remain fair and consistent.

It’s unclear to us why you believe we are blackmailing businesses because we make money when a contractor and a property owner sign a contract together. We collect a referral fee from the contractor who won the job. We don’t charge the property owners for sourcing contractors, and we don’t charge contractors for receiving jobs. We are a pay-per-win model for the contractor when they win, so BuildZoom wins when contractors and property owners win.

I hope this clears things up for you, if you are a contractor with reviews that you believe are not true or based on a legitimate experience, you can claim your BuildZoom profile and submit a dispute for us to review.

The Best
November 2, 2022

I had the BEST experience working with our designer, Joe. He was super accommodating of all of the inspiration pictures I sent to him. He brought my kitchen vision to life! I will definitely be coming back when we are ready to upgrade our bathrooms. We also got several quotes from other cabinet companies, and this was the best price!

Buildzoom helped us find the right Hvac company
October 4, 2022

We had our older heat pump go out on us this summer. We had the company the unit was purchased from come out to inspect our problem, finding out that the whole hvac system would need replaced. We were given a quote for much more then expected. I came across Buildzoom as I was looking for other hvac companys, Buildzoom helped us find a smaller local hvac company who ended up saving us thousands of dollars! On top of that we got better componants installed then were quoted by the first company. Thanks buildzoom!

RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN
September 23, 2022

They will pressure you and call you to pay for a premium deal, then right when you send the money it's over with. Those are all false promises they're telling you. Once you send them money it's non refundable and they DONT CARE.

Hello Larissa,

We would love to learn more about your issue, can you reach out to us at [email protected]? We are unable to locate any records that match your first name and last initial.

When a client chooses to purchase Premium Services, we schedule a Kickoff Call within a few days of the purchase with the client and our project management team who will provide an overview of the Premium Services and learn more about your project. After that, we start to source contractors for your project.

We handle refund requests on a case-by-case basis, and it usually becomes non-refundable if we've put in a fair amount of effort working with contractors directly to acquire bids. This is also the reason we split the cost of Premium Services into multiple invoices, and you only pay when a stage of your project is complete. Since we've completed the work, that invoice is non-refundable but you can cancel any future invoices if you decide you no longer want the services.

However, if you paid your down payment and haven't received a Kickoff call, please let us know by reaching out at [email protected].

They are dishonest and misrepresented themselves from the beginning. I would rather spend more money with a box builder than deal with a dishonest company like this. You can do what they do for your self not waste your money! And they are not in the better business bureau for a reason.

Hello Quoneitha,

We are sorry to hear about your experience using BuildZoom. We were able to locate your records and it appears that you formed a wrong impression based on the services we offer and the services you expected. In your email correspondence with our Premium Team, you indicated you were told by a Project Consultant that the Architect Fees would be covered by BuildZoom, and you sent us a screenshot of the Premium Agreement you signed.

We took the time to listen to the calls you had with our Project Consultant (and everyone else you spoke to) and confirmed that there was never a conversation indicating that the fees of an Architect were to be covered or that you’d get an Architect for free. You also never asked that question explicitly. It sounds like there was a wrong impression formed somehow that led you to believe that by paying for our Premium Services, which is where you get a Buildzoom construction manager to help you collect & compare bids from local architects and contractors, that you’d also get an Architect for free. Nowhere in our website or service documents does it indicate that either, including the Premium Agreement you signed. The agreement lays out the invoice structure and the milestones that trigger those invoices.

Although you canceled your Premium Services, you were not given a refund because there was still time and resources spent by having Buildzoom source and coordinate architect bids & developing your scope of work. That is why we don’t charge the full cost of our Premium Services up front and break them up in separate invoices— you pay as you go as we complete stages of the process. You also still have those invoices and all the information you need to continue the process without BuildZoom if you choose to do so.

Ultimately, you expected to get the fee of an architect completely covered by BuildZoom although there was never a promise of that from our reps or in our documentation, nor is it something we’ve ever offered. The invoice for the Architect Bid Management that BuildZoom charges is usually $1400, and the fee for a Full-Service Architect ranges from $10,000 to $30,000 on average. Covering that cost for a client is unfeasible. The services we offer are for you to get a designated Construction Manager as an expert in the industry to go alongside you in the process to ensure nothing is missed and you get the best quality work at the best price from these architects and contractors.

I attempted to utilize the services of BuildZoom. After filling out my request for services I immediately received a phone call and text. I spoke with the gentleman for nearly: 45 minutes and he assured me that he and his company were confident that they could find me at least 3 builders formy project. I was given the name of the contract who would be personally handling my recruitement of the contractors. The managing agent's name was Adrian. I spoke with Adrian relatively briefly as he stated that the first guy, who's name slips me right now, had taken excellent notes of our previous conversation. The first guy made a follow-up call to obtain my assessment of my conversation with Adrian.
I was to have received my list of the 3 qualified contractors within 4-5 business days. However, that didn't happen. The first guy asked if I would 'hold off' on me moving forward with hiring another contractor before they could find one for me. It was a mistake to agree.
Once I, finally, did hear from Adrian he informed me that he only found one contractor as the others within their system did not have high enough satisfaction ratings. He told me that the single contractor was already scheduled to meet with me at 8:00 a.m. the following Wednesday morning. However he indicated that he WOULD continue to search for qualified contractors to complete my request. He also asked if there was any additional work I needed to have performed at my building and I told him that there were not. He assured me that I would hear back from him very soon as we were approaching the Wednesday morning appointment.
NO CALL! NO SHOW! NO ANSWER! NO FOLLOW-UP!
NOT ANOTHER WORK OR CALL FROM BUILDZOOM.
BEWARE OF POSSIBLE COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!

Hello Carmon,
Looking into our records we found that someone from our team reached out to you to discuss your project and we learned that you found an engineer and asked us to never call you again. First, we apologize that it took longer than expected for you to hear back from someone at BuildZoom and for the no-show that occurred from the engineer we found for you.

We’d like to clarify a few things to help provide some context on your situation - we do not have our own network of engineers. We partner with building departments and contractor license boards to maintain records of over 3.8 million licensed general contractors and builders. When a property owner needs help finding a contractor, we help source one in their area by sharing details of their project with local contractors and coordinating appointments.

However, you were looking for a structural engineer and we don’t maintain records of engineers in our system, which makes it very challenging for us to source for one. The reason for our team member’s call yesterday was to clarify that for you. Despite that, we still attempted to find you one as a good faith effort. We’d also like to reinforce that the service we provided you was free — so you were not charged for the effort we made to find you an engineer. We understand that it required an investment of your time speaking to us on the phone and waiting to hear back.

We’re glad to know that you found an engineer, if you are ever in need of a general contractor or builder, we can assure you that the experience of finding one using BuildZoom is significantly better because that is our focus.

Totally useless
August 10, 2022

The contractor that BuildZoom referred to me had a criminal record for theft and burglary - and they only referred 1 contractor to me after telling me that up to 4 would be in touch. Thank God I looked it up myself and cancelled the meeting for an estimate. I've pulled my project from their site and will not be utilizing their services in the future. We've already gone through a nightmare with a contractor who turned out to be a criminal (we did not hire him through BuildZoom, which is why I decided to try it out), and I was hopeful that they could at least do a modicum of due diligence in checking the backgrounds of these people. It appears that I was incorrect. As always, buyer beware, and make sure to look at the background of anyone you hire, especially since BuildZoom doesn't seem interested in doing so for their users. To top it off, after informing them of this, all they did was say "Sorry about that" and then send me a survey on how satisfied I was with them. They were utterly and completely useless.

Hello BJ L.,

We evaluate contractors based on a lot of different criteria to determine if the contractor is the best fit for your project and how reliable they are. Things such as (but not limited to) the number of permits they’ve filed in their lifetime (and in the last 12 months), the number of jobs they’ve completed, the types of jobs they completed, the reviews they receive on different review platforms, the number of years they’ve been in business, their bid-to-hire rate, their licenses, and how responsive & engaged they are with both their clients and BuildZoom.

In most cases, we are not able to look at the personal history of the owner of a contracting business. However, if we find any recent legitimate foul play as it relates to their work as a contractor, we will not work with them.

Regarding only getting 1 contractor when you were looking for 4, we always work diligently to try to get at least 3 contractors for our clients. It’s not uncommon that we reach out to 80-100 contractors to try to get a client 3-4; however, we can’t control if a contractor decides to participate on a project. The most influential factors that determine whether contractors participate are the project scope and budget. If there seems to be a misalignment on what the Property Owner wants and the budget they said they’re willing to pay, then contractors won’t spend the time to check out the project and bid for it. Contractors can easily determine if there will be challenges with budget feasibility based on the project type and the budget proposed by the property owner. A quick example of this is that the average rate for a partial home remodel today is in the general range of $120 - $200 per square foot. If a Property Owner’s scope and budget come out to be around $95 per square foot, the remodel is likely not going to be possible, and a contractor won’t want to check out the job.

We are sorry that your experience with BuildZoom was not to your liking. We hope that this context helps shed some more light on the process; if you have questions or need any additional assistance you can reach out to us as [email protected].
