Nightmare

"Avoid British gas at all cost" They didn't bring bill for almost 11 months when they finally brought it it was almost £2000 for just gas. Prior to this I spoke to multiple staff to figure out if I was In debt they said no. Boom almost 2000£ debt. The staff are not well trained they seem very clueless on what is going on with my account. I decided to pay this debt on monthly direct debit which was set up by a member of thier staff, they said the debt was going to my credit score if I didn't pay before 1 year, I agreed to pay within 1 year. 2 months went by no money was taken from the direct debit, I contacted them again they said the debt was going to my credit score regardless of how I pay because I moved to another supplier which I was never told. I called them more than 10 times for them to please take the monthly agreed payment it was to no avail. It took months and staying on the line for multiple hours before this could be fixed. Then I moved my gas to another company by June 2023 they blocked it I called British gas to ask why I can't move they said they have rectified it I called the other company they said it is still blocked this is October 2023 I am still struggling with British gas on phone just to be able to move. I am writing this review with a very sad heart because this company has caused me so much mental, emotional and physical stress and trauma that I still haven't gotten out of. I am still in shock how clueless the staffs are. If I could change the hand of clock I would never go close to a company like this.

Identity fraud

For a company with the name "British" in it… it's an absolute disgrace how terrible their service and customer service team are. They put themselves first instead of the customer and apparently you can create an account with British Gas online under anyone's name you don't have to provide any sort of ID or proof that you live at the property. And if said person calls British Gas and tries to get their name taken off they will tell you there's nothing that can be done you would have to pay a debt you never incurred if not it would be placed on your credit file.

It's ridiculous to think in the modern society of internet that a company that has been around for 200 years have nothing in place to protect against identity fraud or if anything try to resolve the issue. I would give 0 stars if I could.

AWFUL COMPANY

If I could leave zero stars I would, 9 months on a total of around 60hours of phone calls and hundreds of emails they still haven't resolved a miss billing of £2500 and It stills shows as a debt on my account, eventually got Ofgem involved, Would never use or recommend to anyone.

Total thieves and liars

I switched from a prepayment meter to a credit meter, they promised to credit my account with the money left on the prepayment meter which i had paid for, i never got this money back, was trying for months to get it, but they lie all the time, the staff at the call centre are totally incompetent, i have now switched suppliers, AVOID BRITISH GAS

Booked installation of Smart Metre 3 weeks ago, for between 1pm - 5pm today. The technician arrived at 4.30 and as soon as we opened the door she said she didn't think she could do it as she did not have the right equipment. When asked didn't they check they had the equipment in the morning before setting off on the appointments we were told she had only been given this appt 30 mins ago. When we asked when she would be returning she said she would not be WE would have to arrange another appointment. PRETTY POOR SERVICE IF YOU ASK ME. A TOTAL DISREGARD FOR CUSTOMERS.

Apparently have transfered all customers to new system. Awful, awful disrespectful customer service. New staff attitude stinks. They're absolutely patronizing and entitled. No telephone manners. I'm leaving them after today. This is disgusting going forward. Customer service is key. Staff inappropriate attitude. Unable to pay bill on the phone today. It stinks, could not take attitude any longer. Hanged up!

Extremely disappointed with my recent Boiler repair experience. I have been really happy with my BG homecare (3 properties) and energy supply.

I had the boiler serviced by BG engineer in October 2022 and it`s been all good. However the boiler stopped heating the water recently and on 20 July i called out for a repair. Engineer attended on 24 July, fiddled a bit cleaning the heat exchange, marked the job as completed and sent an invoice. Well, next day -no hot water again. I called BG and explained the problem, raised a complain and they booked a revisit. However it`s the same engineer- A******y and he didn't bother going to the property but called the resident instead, saying the system needs a power flush. And of course it`s not covered by the homecare cover but A******y suggests we contract him for the service privately. And there we go again! I called British gas, raised a complaint and insisted i have a SECOND opinion, by a DIFFERENT engineer as i believe the problem is in the boiler itself, the radiators are working perfectly. Appointment booked. It`s been 10 days without hot water and i am excited to receive a message from BG that the engineer is on his way. But...nobody turns up. Instead a visit, i get a call from the infamous A******y who insists he knows what best for my boiler and that a power flush of £1100 will fix my boiler problem. He insists he`s sent me a quote which i have never received. A******y seems oblivious to my argument that all radiators are heating perfectly and it`s just the hot water to the shower and the sink that`s been affected. Instead A******y insists I take his number and contact him privately instead! According him, everytime I book repair it increases my premium ( Total nonsense), so best to keep BG out of the loop and deal with the engineers privately!
The audacity of it it`s shocking!
It seems to me that British gas contracts engineers who use the opportunity to sell their chargeable services to homecare holders and neglect the actual investigation and repair. All they want to do is to sell their lifetime guarantee powerflush though you might actually need a new boiler. When i said that to A******y who was very quick to suggest a quote for a new boiler. I was stunned and asked " What i should get then? Power flush or a new boiler". His answer was -"Whatever you like".?
And i am supposed to trust this people with my boiler and heating system?
So i have another visit booked for Monday and I wouldn't be surprised if A******y gives me a call in the morning to tell me I should trust him instead, buy his private service and stop making fuss with British gas:-)

It is sad that British Gas are solely focused on profit and oblivious to their customers` needs and lower quality of service they provide.

Con Artists

Transferred to British Gas when my old supplier went bust. In the past 12 months I have spent just over £2000 with them, for my small one bed house which I occupy on my own. For around 3/4 months over winter I actually had my heating off, because I just couldn't afford the bills. I tried to transfer away from them but they blocked it. I have tried speaking to them about their bills.

Currently they are over the new guidelines for how much you can charge. Avoid them at all costs!

Useless, unprofessional company. Only interested in money not customers or sorting any issues/complaints. The only reply is "we had delays" but I can't see any delays in raising prices AVOID!

Should be no stars

So prepayment smart meters my monitor as'mt worked for nearley 2 weeks now they do'nt get readings from meters so keep saying rasie a ticket it will take 10 -14 days had that for the last 2weeks i also raised that my wife is disabled and if i go out and electeic goes what happens live chat person said she wiĺl have to wait until i come home

Bad company ever I have.
13 days for gas is £1208.19 26th of Feb to 9th of March.
I called them, Kelly Booysen said, that's wrong. It's incorrect. She will call me back on Friday. But she didn't call me. And now today 5th of April, message me this is a reminder that your final gas bill is due for payment by 06/04/2023. I have to pay £1349.97

Terrible

Called 7 times now.
Need meter mode changed.
Told call me back. Didn't.
Told to message on MSN messenger. Never replied.
Told escalated, fixed.
Still not done.
Told manager will call back, never did.
Told when I was advised Friday the 31st it was fixed, 20 mins later they made a note on the account not fixed...Guess what? I had to call again to find this out. Lies, incompetence and VERY poor call handlers, a real language barrier.
I have again requested a manger to call me back. And I have requested a transcript of the telephone calls.
I am going to ofgem.
