I have hired 2 separate attorneys from their site and both attorneys were completely incompetent. When I tried to leave an honest review of my experience Avvo kept on rejecting my negative review saying it violated community guidelines. I submitted 4 other reviews and every single one of them was denied by Avvo. Avvo is extremely biased towards their customer (the attorneys who are paying to be on their site) and won't let me leave an honest review. I'm sure I'm not the only one with the same issue and I will do everything in my power to start a CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT against them. I lost tens of thousands of dollars by hiring attorneys that had high ratings in their site.

AVVO has defective algorithms which artificially read and post in different legal categories.
These categories are usually totally wrong and as a result you will get incorrect answers or no answers at all. They refuse to let users simple select their topic area like they used to years ago because they think it will go into the wrong category. So I might ask a business law question and get placed is a immigration category with immigration attorneys (who don't even read the question) telling me it sounds like I need an immigration attorney from my question.

Years ago when users could post the question in the correct categories, you would get good lawyers who know that area of law giving you decent answers but ever since they switched to an defective algorithm which override the users ability to pick a category, you get garbage.

My most recent question is a question about debt collecting and a writ of execution and sale of property of a debtor. My question went into a consumer product protection category instead of on debt collecting.

Until AVVO removes the algorithm which is putting question in the wrong category, the site is utterly useless.

Despite the fact that I asked politely, the attorney who answered my question was extremely rude. She insulted me without responding to my questions. You can also see that many people complained about Avvo's attorneys being rude and racists.

They candy everything up to make money. I tried to post two reviews which were one star along with various others that were 5... none of the one star reviews came up. Support just simply disregarded all support tickets about the issue with the same response. NOT AN ACCURATE REPRESENTATION OF LAWYERS ON AVVO! Just another website trying to make money making people look good even if they are federal criminals.

I did a review on Michael Peacock, on Avvo and of course they have to review before they post. Avvo is not going to post the things most important that consumers should be aware of, they denied to post my review they came up with their own theory and a fat lie Only because evidently I was the only person to speak up of the bad behavior and bad actions of Mr. Peacock who I consider a terrible Attorney. I will not recommend Avvo to anyone my impression of the information on the Attorneys listed is not adequately right. I suggest call the State Bar or Lawyer Referral and google the name of the lawyer and/or firm and read reviews do not use Avvo their site is base on LIES.

I have posted reviews of lawyers on this website over the last few years. When I post a five-star review of a lawyer, it goes through somewhat automatically, I get an approval statement from the website usually the next day. On two occasions, I submitted negative reviews of lawyers who had not done a good job. The next day, in both cases, my reviews were rejected for violating "community guidelines." The community guidelines are overly broad and, more interestingly, the website does not tell you which guideline you have supposedly violated. This is particularly noteworthy for a website that deals with lawyers, lawyers deal in details. In any case, in both of my negative reviews, I had to change the reviews until eventually, several days and several emails later, they were accepted. I know that in one of these two cases, the lawyer, Andrew Fitzgerald in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, actually tried to deny that I had been his client and Avvo asked me for proof that I have been his client. This is a violation of confidentiality by a website. In any case, Avvo eventually posted the negative review of this man in Winston-Salem, after several days and several emails back and forth.

According to its website, Avvo claims to provide "more information" to help potential clients make "better decisions." Yet, Avvo apparently makes little effort to screen positive reviews (which could possibly be provided by the personal friends of a lawyer). It is my understanding that the only way that Avvo actually verifies positive evaluations is to let the lawyers challenge such reviews. On the other hand, Avvo routinely intercedes with negative reviews (as well as allowing the lawyer to question such reviews, as happened to me with Mr. Fitzgerald in Winston-Salem). So, in the case of incompetent, unprofessional, or disreputable lawyers, Avvo does not really provide a platform for consumers to make "better decisions."

They will deny you for not writing enough detail and then deny you for writing too much detail and then deny you for not having supporting evidence of your statements but wont give you an option to attach the proof so basically according to avvo all the attorneys are 5 star and amazing

This site will decline bad reviews, which makes it worthless. You can't trust it. I had a very horrible experience with Kyle Moore, an estate lawyer in Shreveport Louisiana. I wanted to tell people about it. He messed up in a area where he was supposed to be an expert. He messed up in many ways and it caused me a lot of heartache, headache, and grief. He does not seem at concerned with all the trouble he caused. He's even wanting to charge me for trying to fix his mistake. I can't understand how anybody could be this awful and think it's okay.

Finding out the so-called legal minds there can't advise if someone lies on governments form is a crime or not. Very sad this is what we now have after #45s time in office.

My Son was convicted of a very serious drug crime in federal court Mr. Arnkoff fought hard for him the government waiver of the mandatory 10 years he was facing MR. Arnold f always knew the Judge would have given him a lesser sentence if she could have and he was very upset with the government lawyer. My Son has now spent almost 5 years in custody. Recently Mr. Arnkoff f contract me about filing a petition for my son release due to health and Covid reasons. He told me the Judge was no longer bound by the 10 years sentence He put everything into motion and brought his Attorney Friend Michael Holley. The Judge agreed with them that my son deserved being released and he will be returning home with in a few weeks. I can't thank Mr. Arnkofff and Mr. Holley enough for their efforts on behalf of my son

We submitted a negative review at Avvo for a Torrance, CA attorney Christina Wickers and Rodney Wickers. They were rejected
We believe their rating system is fixed, those 5 stars reviews are posted for attorneys with "endorsed" profiles, and block negative reviews. It's a club. They can't be trusted!

It is all a scam. First, my charge increased at some point without explanation. Second, the legal questions to add to the rating are garbage. One would think they would screen the questions instead of letting people submit nonsense. Case in point, a person age 40 realizing only recently that she believed she had anxiety from a teacher slapping her at at age 12. In addition to that, it is very difficult to cancel.

Avvo's customer service is a joke. I am a tenant in a 2 family home, and the other tenant family is neglecting their pets and damaging my property. They do not speak English, so I can't communicate with them; and my landlord seems to treat them with kid gloves. For this and other reasons, I believe they are illegal immigrants. Because they're certainly not awful people and I suspect that they may be illegal, I am reluctant to call the police on them which may get them into more trouble than is necessary. I'm sure that most people, lawyers included, after hearing my entire issue, would recommend that I first speak with them or call the police before getting legal assistance. In order to not waste answers from Avvo's lawyers with these recommendations and to stress that those two options are kind of out of the question, I made sure to include our inability to communicate and my reluctance to involve the police in the other facts in my question.

When I went to see my question and potential answers, I couldn't find it. Upon emailing customer service, I was informed by a very nasty "senior customer care representative" named Katherine who informed me that my question wasn't posted (which I'd have never known if I didn't contact them) because I included "unnecessary information" in it. Apparently, "their immigration status and inability to speak English" are irrelevant and discriminatory. I responded to reiterate that everyone suggests speaking with the neighbors first, and then if all else fails, calling my landlord or the police, as well as my reasons for not trying these options first. This "senior customer care representative" never responded to this or any subsequent emails from me.

So, even though I made it clear that I'd rather not get these people into trouble with immigration by involving the police, and cannot do this by speaking with them regarding the issues, one person at Avvo with insufficient reading comprehension skills decided that I must have an issue with illegal immigrants, and decided that I don't deserve legal advice. She also is apparently allowed to completely ignore customers despite being a "senior customer care representative."

Ok so I have not realized that mentioning something of a false accusation question (I won't mention bc I don't think it's good to mention but it starts with an m.) would be so bad, I was asking for a friend who really really needed advice but all I kept getting was that it wasn't wise to mention it bc cops can literally do a search warrant. Well I couldn't have known otherwise but my friend is now 1000% more terrified that I'll be in trouble, which I feel the same way. Plus the person that answered the question was somehow implying that someone did a crime when I specifically said it was a false accusation. Anyway, literally doesn't give advice even when you REALLY need it, I'm not trying to cause trouble but I'm very sure they won't give any advice to cases like that IF you mention it's you. Beware to those who don't know, just don't ask sensitive topics or cases looked down upon for the suspects because everyone will be against you. If you're going to ask a serious question like that, please change your location into a super far away state/country from you or don't even ask that site at all bc they won't answer questions to a "suspect" of this kind of topic. In the end, it's not good and just use simple google for the research, the whole site is just basically kind of one sided sometimes.

I had a family court issue.

Asked a question got 5 different answers (Avvo), apparently all of them were wrong.

I ended up using a lawyer in Portland Maine based on the reviews form Avvo.

The lawyer never got me a day in court but spent my money doing frivolous filings (motions) that got us to a pre-trial meeting with the judge.

The judge literally laughed at my lawyer and I, told us there will basically be no court trial and that took 9 months and 6000 dollars.

Foolishly i was going to file a contempt of court but was quoted thousands more, at that point I gave up knowing it was going to be another costly deadend.

This lawyers office has 39 reviews and a 10 rating.

Maine's premier civil and criminal litigator. Named to "Best Lawyers in America." Only Maine lawyer who is a Director of the "National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers." Named to "New England Super Lawyers" for 10 consecutive years.

I used the junior partner and he was advised by the senior one.

I don't want to name... names as i don't want to be sued by them.

Avvo is a Rip off, ask a question then they tell you to speak to a lawyer, find their lawyer, and good bye money and the fallout from my case is I am set to lose another $30K..

I left a review of a terrible DC/MD lawyer named Mary Paloger on the AVVO site. The review was submitted, approved and posted. Several days later, they took the post down citing that I didn't indicate that I had hired. I resubmitted the review and cited that I hired her and gave examples. Then declined saying that "Simply accused Mary Paloger of criminal activity or unethical behavior without providing factual details."

I wrote the following to their corporate office through the contact page...
"I have now submitted two reviews of Mary Paloger. The first was approved, then later denied when Mary complained. I sent another with your suggestions and edits - and then it was deemed "Simply accused Mary Paloger of criminal activity or unethical behavior without providing factual details." Since when did I have to become a lawyer to leave a review. Your site is misrepresenting the reason that this exist. If AVVO is simply going to function as "Linked-In" you should advertise as such or partner with them. I will leave another review later. However, if that is also denied after following your site rules... I will then take my complaints about Mary Paloger and AVVO to twitter, Reddit, and the web. Not a threat, just attempting to be more transparent than AVVO. Your choice."
