The overall reputation of the company reflects a mix of nostalgia and disappointment among users. While some appreciate the diversity of opinions and the community's willingness to share knowledge, many express frustration over the decline in answer quality and the prevalence of rude or unhelpful responses. Concerns about inadequate moderation, particularly in sensitive sections, highlight a need for improved oversight to enhance user experience. The rating system is criticized for failing to promote accurate answers, leading to a perception that the platform has become less reliable over time.

I agree, it is easy to violate their terms. Still, this site rocks and I love it!
Why did yahoo block or delete my account when I was using it. When I send mail from another box to my yahoo account this is what I get: Remote host said:
554 delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a yahoo.co.uk account (uch****_******@yahoo.co.uk) [-5] - mta1096.mail.ir2.yahoo.com
[BODY]
I have written to yahoo pleading to them that my life information is there and they should unblock it for me. Since 48 hours I have not received any response from them. Please can anyone help me
I have had 3 of my questions that I asked removed because they apparently "violated the Community Guidelines". I read over these guidelines very carefully afterwards and found absolutely nothing wrong with them. One of my questions that was removed was asking for opinions on what could be causing my stomach discomfort with a a description of my symptoms. I didn't use any "hateful words" or "exploiting the community". Obviously there are trigger words or phrases that have your question flagged immediately.
I like this site a lot. If there's anything I want to know about any website or any topic, I find this website a great open forum where people discuss and share their own experiences. You can't always find answers to many questions, but most of the times you find honest people giving you adbices about whatever you want to know.
I get excellent answers to my questions. It is good for emailing, and good search browser. I prefer to over using ask.com, it is a lot better then that. And it is just as good as using Google as a search browser.
Don't get the entire point of this service after using it for about 2 months. For the most part people ask questions that are easily googleable and/or simply want their homework done (essay written, problem solved etc).
Providing a quality answer takes time, and with just points for helpful responses, I didn't see any sense in sticking with that service.
One feature of this site is the ability to post questions "anonymously" and as a result, should you use that feature someone goes through and has your questions removed along with everyone else's who posts "anonymously" (regardless of context or content) and your account gets suspended by the Yahoo Answers team. I decided I wasn't paying for Yahoo to be able to suspend my service, so am "firing" Uverse as my provider.
Yahoo is a little high handed in suspending email accounts and services if they feel your political beliefs are not in line with theirs. I still believe we have a Constitution in the USA.
I emailed Yahoo three times and got no answers back or any explanation about how long they planned to block me from Answers.
Uverse suggested using Outlook or gmail.
Yahoo Answers is an online community in which participants ask and answer questions on a wide range of topics, from the serious to the delightfully trivial. These guidelines are here to help you do your part in making the community a safe and enriching place. We expect each member to conduct themselves with integrity, decency, and respect, and your use of Yahoo Answers is subject to the Yahoo Answers Community Guidelines and the Yahoo Terms of Service.
This is for sure a pretty cool question and answer type of site!
One of the best sites to get any question answered.
Though some Yahoo answers are just misleading, it is a good source to gather some information. Fairly recommend it.
I like the feedback mechanism and the crowds reply to a certain question. However, at some point some of the answers are motivated by some interested individuals.
Most of the time, it is a marketing campaign or a sales pitch.
Very useful site for parents and kids to help with school. I had to use it to check on how to help my son with his homework. Could not live without it.
Very interesting for finding some ideas and information. The reviewers are not experts usually but you can get some good information and continue on your own to check the facts.
There is no better website out there that I have found so far, that could be better than yahoo answers. The community always gives you a good answer.
In the past I have asked a few questions. I stopped once I asked one about if there is an application or method to "wake up" the power off state of monitors (power saving) when you sit down in front of the computer (ie, by detecting movement via camera or something). It sounded like a good concept, and then after one answer that had nothing to do with anything (someone posted something like "very interesting thoughts"), the question was then removed and missing when I came back to it to see if anyone else said anything. My other few questions were indeed answered before that though.
I felt it was odd it was deleted but didn't want to waste the effort of typing out detailed questions like that again with the risk of it just being removed. So I figured to pass time I'd at least answer a few others since a few of mine were indeed answered with solid answers.
Sorting through the questions that weren't posted in good faith to find properly asked questions, I only had the chance to answer about 5. These were simple questions like how to access certain features in an application (i. E., how to access a settings menu in a graphic application), or how to accomplish something in Windows. My answers were short and to the point. Another question I remember was where someone could find something online (product), and I searched for a few things and replied.
Then all of a sudden I get an email from Yahoo that my account was suspended (a true email, not one of those fake/mimic'd emails). I replied back patiently asking if there was something I have done as I assure them I haven't broken any rules or stepped on anyone toes. They answered the next day with a swift text-book answer without obviously researching the few answers/questions I have ever made, saying:
(QUOTE)
You have posted content in violation of our Community Guidelines or Yahoo! Terms of Service. As a result, your account has been suspended from Yahoo! Answers, and you will no longer be able to access this service. Community Guidelines exist to keep Yahoo! Answers a safe and useful community.
While your access to other Yahoo! Services is not affected, if your account is flagged again for a Yahoo! Terms of Service violation, your account may be terminated without further notice.
(END OF QUOTE)
I tried to give it some thought and couldn't come up with a reason as I have never posted anything rude, vulgar, sarcastic, off-the-topic, spam or any form of adult-graded topics or material. I figure obviously someone must have flagged me in error or someone was abusing their flagging system. I responded with such and they had no reply. Instead they make me feel like some kind of unwanted criminal.
So at this point I have even decided to expire my usage of all Yahoo! Services as that was concerning. I have been using Yahoo since the late 90's it was nothing but a search engine. Now I fear if I spend the effort to do anything anywhere else on Yahoo they will just simply delete me there as well without even asking questions.
Meanwhile, they have people posting questions that make no sense, questions that blatantly talk about private parts for kicks, answers they don't make sense, people posting rude comments about other people's answers and so much more... and that's ok. But when I respond to a tech question with a simple to understand and straight to the point answer or help someone track done a product they are having trouble finding... I'm removed from the picture without any question, research or jury.
After a decade and a half of using their services, I firmly stand on my decision to no longer use Yahoo.
I get a lot of answers from here, the only thing I don't like is that they blocked me from asking or giving answers.
The thumbs up/down rating system fails so often and there isn't to improve the answers compared to answers.com (which it was good until they change the registering mechanism to Facebook). Most answers are not accurate, they almost feel like opinions or just attacking people. Seriously, if I want to improve answers, I research and I answer.
Use it occasionally whenever a question comes to my mind and I want it answered :)
