Kevin has always been there for me when I needed help. I let him publish a few of my books and was very sastified. Always responded back. People have different opinions they get triggered and get labeled a racist, which they're not. People are so easily triggered or offended by anything you say. That's not Kevin's fault, this site after a day is so easy to use. Me I won't apologize. I feel bad for Kevin who has a hectic life with family and worse dealing with us clowns. Thank you Kevin from the skeleton horse.
So far (in three months)I have had a positive experience. I mainly wanted to see if I really was a poet or not. I've decided after posting over 20 poems that I will pursue writing it. I've only had one sarcastic review which was I suppose an attempt at being witty. I think it is important though to belong to a group of friends on the site.
This site has had me grow so much in poetry. If users give me obsolete comments, I ignore them, which leaves the really good, thorough critiques and comments left. People complain about such, but all sites have people only there for points. But what matters is that there are those who will give you good feedback nevertheless, on AllPoetry.com.
I have grown leaps and bounds since I found All poetry. I'm from a small town and growing up I was the only poet I knew. It absolutely astounded me that was an entire world of poets right here on the web. I have so much fun entering contests and a lot of the time I win at least an honorable mention which makes me feel heard. I'll never forget when one of my poems was chosen for front page I was immensely honored and even cried a little. All I ever wanted as a poet was to be read and if even one person reads each poem I have still had my dream come true. Thank you allpoetry for making feel a part of!
This guy deleted my poetry said he couldn't get it back I was too while 100 poems I rolled the site has many fans. He blocked and hid my poems. He took from my future if writing and my fans base. This site is disgrace. Use have copy write not that's my even in the label. I would not trust this site.
I have been threatened by someone on there who said they'd kill me. I've been sexually harassed on there and people write a lot about lucifer on there calling themselves Satan and people are always stalking you on it and you can make more than one account for the same person under a different name and once caught they delete the profile. This has been going for years. Of all the poets they claim to have on their site, you get no feedback they just rate your poem from 1-6 and barely anyone reads your writings.
Sorry you had a bad experience with a user. That poem is definitely disturbing but how could you tell it was meant "at" a particular person? We are a moderated site, so please let us know with example links if something like this happens ( it's VERY rare!) via the gear icon at the top right -> contact us. We don't do poem "ratings" with 1-6 so no sure what you mean by that. You can rate comments, though.
You have to buddy up with people to get any comments on your work. You have to be "in the loop".
I have written on the site for over a year. Never getting more than 1-4 "likes". Mine is not bad. You are a poet or not. You do not "learn" to write. You can take classes to maybe fit into the box. Read me if you want. The site changes from All Poets to All Poetry depending what day it is. Debra Ann Van Ness
Allpoets - not sure where you got that from, never heard of it. Maybe you were involved on another site? Until you build up a set of folks "following" you, your poems will get some initial attention from the "new" list, but after that you'll need to do stuff like use the "trade comments" feature, enter contests, join small groups to get your poem in front of more folks. A lot of new poets are surprised there's not hoards of adoring fans waiting for them upon posting, but if you dive in and are active, you'll get a lot of responses.
I have been a paying members for a few years. ("Lyptus")
Good:
- A well organized place to store and display your poetry, for others to visit. It links well to social media.
- There are a lot of very fine poets using the site. I feel I have learnt a lot from their writing. There is also beginners and lesser quality poetry; but folk have to start somewhere.
- There are a lot of volunteer leaders of help/learn/appreciate groups, often focusing on particular styles. I have benefitted from those as would any beginner poet.
- Like any site there are the occasional unpleasant person. But I have not encountered real nastiness or disrespect. On the contary many I meet are really nice people, like a lot of poets are.
- I could download all my work when I wanted to, having to wait a few days.
- It includes collections of all genres and past poets too.
Could be better:
- Reviewing is not to the fore (though there are arranged groups for more concentrated review by others) but I think the more you give the more you receive.
I am only an intermittent reviewer, as many are. I think Kevin does his best to encourage more reviewing. I'm not sure this is a fault of the site actually.
- Some find the "autorank" algorithm a bit simplistic, but it is a rough help to me, a point of departure of review of what you have done. I certainly don't think it is perfect (AI and poetry interface?) But when I use the autorank on my poems it roughly does get the quality ranking in order imo.
Summary:
I wrote this because I think some of the negativity listed about the site is over the top and not my expereince. It is a good site. It is not a professional poetry review level of place but I would recommend it for the above reasons.
Amazingly pernicious social media site disguised a poetry critiquing center. If taken seriously, it can be an informative tool for writing improvement, and a perfect window into the minds of some of the craziest A-holes on earth, which is valuable information to a writer so long as you don't buy into their crap. While the contests feel like they are more about popularity than quality, they can at least be a tool to gage what can work subjectively. The autorank algorithm is good for people who are incredibly bad at poetry because it convinces them they are losers, or turns them into lost rebels. It openly tells new users NOT to rhyme, which is horribly discouraging for all of the right monetary reasons: no ones gives a crap about rhyming, or anything musically vital to language because most readers are rhythmless, tone deaf simpletons anyway. If you are honest with yourself, you can commit to the chore of weeding through who understands what or who is actually professional and use them to your advantage, it's all valuable information to exploit.
It is an addictive nightmare for egotistical escapists and bipolar schizophrenics alike. Your pathetic life will collapse around you as you feebly try to keep up with comments, notifications, and contest results while obsessively improving writing styles, molding you into a resentful cynic who likes to flirt with black widows. You'll spend every other day taking mental dumps, whittling chunks of mental cow pie for hours to tediously craft amateur poems about revenge and suicide. You'll crave square's of toilet paper while drowning in this site's untreated sewage. Each of the million other user's fecal matter will burn like hydrochloric acid in your blood to the point where you are convinced mediocrity is in your DNA.
Allpoetry recklessly preys upon fools who think they have a good shot at writing good from the get-go, like Gertie the Dinosaur innocently swallowing trees with colonies of squirrels still trapped inside. It is a sadistic masterpiece of 21st Century social media, unmatched in the writing world. Would definitely recommend.
I had given up on writing poetry or entertaining the idea that otheres might enjoy what I have to say. Since I joined in March (This is August) I have written over 300 poems and abot 1/4 of them have recieved awards about 50% if you count honorable mentions. I'm a recluse and since Covid 19 (It's fashionable now) I would have gone insane without this wonderful site. I can't afford the membership sometimes, But I'm treated wonderfully as a free member and have a place and ideas with which to create
Horrible site. Horrible staff. Disgusting excuses from moderators about racist behaviours. Excuses. More Excuses. Plagiarism is rife. Private conversations are not private. Corrupt site due to establishment being the main problem. DO NOT TRUST THIS SITE. Gaslighting. Horrible site. STAY AWAY unless you are a troll who likes to argue about politics and are a racist bigot. Disgusting site where you are demeaned for your political rights and views. Racist site. STay AWay
Sorry you had a bad experience :( It is a moderated site, so if you see something, please say something. I'm not 100% sure who this user is, but the "private messages are not private" leads me to believe they were banned for sending inappropriate messages to other users - once a user makes a complaint, will read messages between them and the person they are accusing to see if any violations of our terms of service were made. Plagarism is very rare and taken very seriously, so I suspect this was just added in because they wanted to leave a negative review.
The website is a social networking place for radicals that other social media sites would ban instantly. For a poetry site to have a place called "The Adult Pub" which consists of members who say racist things and promote antisemitism. I have been told numerous times by the site owner that it isn't a part of the website, yet there is a direct link. Instead of ownership removing a pointless aspect of a poetry website, he and his moderators simply allow radicalism to grow and spread their hatred.
I wouldn't spend a dime on this website until such things are removed. You are better off joining a Facebook poetry group or another website that doesn't foster white nationalists, nazis and other forms of bigotry and racism.
Sorry you had a bad experience. The "radicals" as you call them used to cause problems in the poetry areas of the site (the real site!) so, exiling them to the mean forum worked well. While that forum is not moderated, if there's something you feel needs removing, you can still contact our moderators and they'll take action if something is breaking our rules. We don't tolerate racism or anti-seminitism.
All in all this is quite a good site but I find that the same types of poetry are front page picks. Usually very descriptive poems and the rest are left out. It becomes quite frustrating to put your heart into writing a poem and they are rarely picked. I think I will keep my poems to myself because they never get any positive feedback and it is hurtful.
Its too bad that one rotten disgusting reverse racist
Is being allowed to taint the pages herein.
And YES "dude"/you are a full blown TROLL.
Sorry you were having trouble with another member :( Please contact our moderators (gear icon -> Contact us) so we can take a look. There's also blocking controls in Gear icon -> Favorites & Ignore.
They allow third parties to read your private conversations then let them make claims of misconduct against you and remove your work without asking you to on your own. Taking your work deleting it from you when they have no rights to do so.
And to answer mr watts reply
The poem he had no right to delete from me had a parity title to the person whom the site supervisor allowed hear say and finger pointing to violate my privacy of a private conversation between 2 individuals not the 3rd party who was pointing fingers with hear say. Which wasn't about her, but was about the site and how they rape your privacy rights and label you without evidence or an example.
I never even talked to the said poet he claims I was harassing and he did delete my work without permission (which he still hasn't got which he doesn't never get because he who is slow to the poetic metaphors of life).
My beef is not with the poet he claims I was mad at and was allowed to point a finger, but with the mccarthyism bad behavior of him and his site supervisor.
This user posted a harassing poem with the name of and about another user without their permission, which is against our rules. Sorry you had a bad experience with a user, but writing a poem with their name is not allowed :( We take censorship very seriously and only take action when it is required, like in situations like this.
Great place to share original works with other and to also get feedback and comments from them. I recommend membership to anyone who maybe wants to test the waters before possibly perusing the world of publishing.
I've been an active member for over 6 years now with no real complaints. I have found a large community of writers that I have become close to. The group's I am involved with have extended their experience at AP with blogtalk6 radio. The poets can now meet others via telephone during our radio shows. My shows are being listened in over 40 countries as other hosts and dedicated poets. I have several close friendships with other writers and extremely happy with my experience there. There is way more positive things than negative. By far. We are very protective of our friends so haters ade weeded out quickly and dealt with accordingly. I've been treated with nothing but kindness and respect. You can find what you are looking for here.
I have been a member of Allpoetry for about 5 years. Although I am not overly active, I can say that I have never personally witnessed bully or racism as some people have stated. I am not saying it does not happen but it is clearly a rarity to see and knowing how much passionate effort is put into running the site by Kevin it would be dealt with fairly and promptly. No matter where you go, there will always be angry keyboard warriors. Those people are not likely to last very long at Allpoetry.
The large community are all very friendly and constructive. Most people are willing to help you improve your writing if you ask for help on the basics or an in depth critique of your work. Every level of poet is made to feel welcome and there is no sales pitch to pressure you into a subscription.
I have experience many poetry websites and this one sits proudly on top of the ranking by a long way. Well done to Kevin and his admin for maintaining a broad based, consistently high quality website.

As for the site. I like the layout itself. Functionality an A+ for a writers platform. Socially it has weak points as people can access others without having proper credentials. It's basically a non credited writers social site somewhat like Facebook or MySpace. Many users are stalkers and target female writers as I heard stories. There is a dominant majority who bully and act as if they are in competition. The group of bully's and stalkers tend to be political affiliated, causing fights and other issues. To finish this review off. Half of the people can't write. Have no writing scheme are self published and to top it off they can't even spell.

Answer: There's an export link on list pages in the right column to do this...
Answer: Usually this means javascript is misconfigured or broken on your computer. Try resetting your security settings to the default, and make sure your browser has all the latest updates. Comments need to be made from the "now comment" page, vs. clicking titles to comment...
Answer: For the required two comments after commenting? They have to be done from the "now comment" page, maybe that was the problem. Or the javascript on your computer messed up for some reason... Hopefully you got it working :)

I'm not sure what your account name is, but the #1 cause of this is usually folks accidentally making a second account when their poems are on the other account. We haven't had any data loss or been hacked in our 22 years in operation. Make sure you use a unique password for each site and/or check https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to see if another site has compromised that login/password combination.
