With out any prior notification Acorn TV upgraded the service and now I can not watch. For the last month I have been "playing" their game of how it has to be on my end since I watch on a desktop computer. I logged into a business computer that the whole system was updated less than a year ago and guess what it doesn't play on it either. So that tells me without a doubt that it is not my computer it is the streaming service. I paid for a year subscription in December and only got to watch for 2 months before the changes made in February so i am out 10 months of a 1 year subscription. They refuse to give a refund when the fault is their own changes that made it so I can't watch. UPDATE: After 17+ emails and 3+ weeks I did get a refund.

Rip-off
March 19, 2021

Received a year's subscription to Acorn as a gift. It worked great for the first month. Shows we watched were excellent. Second month Acorn stopped loading on our PC to stream to the TV. Emailed Acorn support, they sent instructions that we followed. After those scripted responses failed, they continued sending the same instructions even though we told them nothing they suggested were working.

Since we cannot view anything anymore, we were going to cancel, but found "no refunds allowed". So, we're stuck with having a loved one waste their money on a subscription we can't use.

Reading other reviews, we're afraid that even when we cancel near the end of the year, Acorn will still automatically charge for another year of non-service.

We have absolutely no problems streaming other videos or streaming services. After being really happy with the quality of programming and quality streaming at the beginning; now my advice, steer clear of this rip-off.

Thank You

Do Not Subscribe!
March 19, 2021

Do Not Subscribe! Free trial lapsed before I found out that this product cannot be used on a Samsung Smart TV, there is sound only, no images! When I tried to unsubscribe, there is no facility to do so on their website. After I sent two emails, the answer came back " Unsubscribe through your iTunes account"... Well, I have never had an Itunes account. I have had to involve my bank for help. Do not use! Subscriptions from reliable companies should be simple and user friendly to cancel should you want.

This is possibly the most impossible subscription to cancel but perhaps they make it difficult so you can't?

There is a reason so many Acorn.tv users write bad reviews. It's rubbish/garbage. The video is choppy at best, assuming you can get it to work at all. There is no customer service. You'll be lucky to get a form letter after a few days, claiming to extend your service for a free month. That's all you're ever going to get from them. No help. No support. No nothing. Just a form letter telling you that you can have another month of rubbish for free.

It's very strange that free introductions work better than paid. Mine worked adequately before, but after they got my money, it stopped. My requests for help went unanswered. Just automated replies that they had received my messages.

You don't need to take my word for it. Read other reviews. They all say pretty much the same thing. It will work adequately using a browser or an Android or Apple iOS device. Otherwise you'll have problems. Don't try streaming it using Roku or Amazon Fire or Apple TV. Don't try to stream it from your Android or Apple device to your television set or to other devices.

Update 3/11/20:
I recently learned that most, if not all, problems with this website are related to whatever copy protection scheme they are using. Apparently it's antiquated security that isn't compatible with most modern devices.

Poor visual quality, very rarely HD. Signed up through Amazon Prime and it was very difficult to cancel, once signed up. This really needs to be improved.

I am getting increasingly frustrated that Acorn TV sometimes does not load all episodes of a series, so you have to guess how the storyline finishes. It's getting ridiculous. I found this recently for Judge John Deed, and also for The Silence. I'm seriously considering cancelling my subscription.

These people have been charging my mother twice for service (which she assumed cancelled at the end of the year). They had absolutely no interest in help[ing her despite it being an obvious mistake. They are rubbish.

I prefer it to Britbox in many ways, but that's comparing poor to poor.
I have learned to cope with its idiosyncracies because I am liking content.
But being required to sign in every day, and then to have the account disappear, is inexcusable.
I am not interested in labor intensive, And don't need a challenge at bedtime.
Can't believe the Brits can't get it together. Their shows are great, but administration is the worst.

I had been a customer of Acorn TV for a number of years and was quite happy with the content. Previously this year, I had streaming issues with the Acorn TV app, which I was unable to resolve, and was unable to play any of the content. I contacted customer service, tried to resolve the technical issues, which they could not. Once they couldn't, I asked for a refund for a service I wasn't getting. They refused, stating it was non-refundable. I cancelled my annual subscription a short time later.

Fast forward to November, I checked my credit card statement this morning, and noticed an annual fee charge. I contacted them, asked them to reverse it as I had canceled. His was proven as my app showed the membership status was "cancelled" and when I tried to login to the site, it showed it had expired and prompted me to renew. After providing them tons of information for a number of hours, they refused to refund, as I could not produce an email from earlier this year, which they allegedly sent when I cancelled. What is interesting is that they were apparently incapable of looking up this information themselves. After I questioned their decision, they stopped replying to my messages.

Stay away from this horrible company who takes advantage of their former customers who have already cancelled their memberships.

I will be taking the next step in getting my money back. This is completely unacceptable.

It is one year since I wrote my review of Acorn TV, I see from recent reviews that this company is still stealing money from people by advertising it's donation as a subscription. How long can this be allowed to go on. They should be in jail. One good thing, I discovered Brit Box.

This is a total scam. I have been trying to cancel this service for two months. It is a nightmare. The aggravation to cancel is worth a lot more than the $6.96 per month they charge for the service.

Good value for money
October 12, 2020

I have been getting a laugh out of some of the reviews, what a sensitive lot some of you are, lol Violence, murders, they are police shows and stuff what were you expecting, Sesame Street. Anyway, I love watching all the shows I have missed out on in Foxtel and one good thing, no dam adds. I had to contact Acorn about 4 months ago about my payment and had no problems. Also I have had no trouble with the picture on my laptop or TV

Good content, poor quality
September 21, 2020

I signed up for the week free trial. I really liked the selection of shows and the price was very reasonable--would have gladly stayed with it but for the problems with access. There were two main problems. First, I would try to stream a series on my laptop and would be told there was a failure of the system. Second, the sound and the video were often out of sync. Both these things happened over and over which was quite frustrating so i decided to cancel. I have good wifi and never have these problems with netflix, amazon prime video, or disney.

As a huge fan of British TV series and especially crime shows I am loving Acorn TV. I originally downloaded the Acorn TV app onto my TV but the picture quality was very poor so I switched to streaming from my tablet device via Chromecast to the TV and the picture quality was much improved. As much as I love the content I am disappointed I cannot download shows to watch offline and I have found the option to "continue watching" from where I left off a bit hit and miss. But the cost per month is reasonable and I have not run out of things to watch so far.

Poor selection
August 30, 2020

I took advantage of the 7 day free trial
I searched for Jack Irish - it only has Series 1 - it is up to Series 4
I searched fo Die Hard (bruce Willis) - no result
I searched for George Gently - they only had Series 7
I then made the decision that Acorn TV is too limited in its available content - but I give them 10/10 for allowing trial

Run for your life!
August 18, 2020

Joined Acorn tv's 7 day free trial as I love British TV and fully intended to subscribe if it lived up to it's hype. Filled in all my details including my email etc... got to the point where I could log in and start enjoying the myriad of content advertised only to be told my email was invalid. Tried again, same response. Dumped cache, reloaded to no avail. Frustrated I took a break to read some emails before deciding what to try next and to give the site a chance to catch up with my trial application. One of my emails was from Acorn Tv welcoming me and urging me to get started by following a link provided. Relieved I thought that might have been the issue, I needed to use the link provided... So I clicked, it took me to same page as before and once again my email was invalid... WTH? Obviously this was my email as they had sent me the welcoming email... I had had enough frustration for one day, decided to give it 24 hrs before attempting to log in again. Same result, email invalid. This is when I went online to see if anyone had experienced the same thing... I was met by an avalanche of frustrated would be subscribers warning people NOT to subscribe. Heaps of people were unable to actually view any content for one reason or another and ALL of them warned that customer service was virtually non existent. So many had been stung by Acorn taking money from their linked accounts (which you need to provide when applying for the 7 day trial) and continuing to do so long after they had cancelled their subscription. I wrote to Acorn tv informing them of my inability to log in and was met with a wall of silence, no response for a couple of days. I wrote again informing them that I was cancelling my trial subscription as I had not been able to access any content due to the log in issue and advising them not to attempt to take any money from me... No response. A day later I get a request from them to 'tell them how much I am enjoying the service'... At this point I knew that we had a problem and I decided to cancel the credit card attached to my trial subscription. Almost immediately (and before the 7 days were up) I got an email to advise that an attempt had been made to charge my card which had not gone thru and if I didn't want to lose my subscription I should remedy the situation. Next day, second email arrived advising same thing... I will NOT be going anywhere near this service in the future despite my love of British Tv and would advise others to stay clear...

Customer Service
August 10, 2020

Acorn TV has probably the worst Customer Service of any company I've ever dealt with. It is virtually impossible to talk with anyone on the phone and emailing them back and forth many times to resolve an issue is unacceptable.
