The majority of listeners are kind people who do want to help, and they do offer as much help and support as they can. However, there are also a lot of fake, predatory people and no definite way to get them removed. It's a volunteer site and the minimum amount of training does not weed out the people who shouldn't be listeners. I would only recommend speaking to a verified listener. They've had to do more training and are more qualified. However, unless you are paying for a therapist, you are speaking with a volunteer who is your peer or maybe even younger than you. This is not a PROFESSIONAL site, and a lot of listeners aren't as professional as they should be.

As a listener, I can tell you that it's a very difficult job. A lot of chats are psychologically traumatic. You'll talk to sexual assault victims, domestic violence victims, and people who are threatening to cut themselves at that very moment. It's not for the faint of heart, unless you want to totally desensitize yourself to those subjects. There are a lot of trolls who want you to talk to them on a social media app or site, which you're not allowed to do as a listener because of confidentiality. There are a lot of people trying to sext. I had one member try to get me to sext him, and when I told him that was inappropriate for that site, he blocked and reported me for insulting him.

A place made by the People
September 13, 2020

7 Cups is a site which is made by the people and I do not mean this only for the technologically, I mean functionally as well. It is a volunteering site that focuses on providing people the right resources at the right time. There is an infinite number of resources and people on this site are working 24/7 to improve the existing resources (make them available in different languages) and to add new resources (more guides and information).
After being here for a while and getting to know how things work, I can surely say that there are people on this site who care about you, who listen to you without any judgment, and who are willing to provide you the emotional support you need. There are many places, rooms, sharing circles where you get the opportunity to interact with each other, and feel a little better.
If you are looking to volunteer, be a listener, help someone feel better.
If you are looking for someone to talk to, to vent to, or to just have a normal conversation with, be a member and get a listener. You will feel better.

I joined 7Cups six months ago as a listener and honestly it was a great decision. Being able to help people who are struggling and in a hard time during their lives is so rewarding. 7Cups is run by some of the nicest mentors and leaders who help keep the site safe for all users. 7Cups is an inclusive place for people trying to overcome anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ issues, relationship issues, issues with work or school and many other issues that a member may be dealing with. There are one-on- one chats that members can have with a trained listener and there are also rooms where listeners and members alike can interact with each other and participate in discussions about various topics. There are also forums about various topics.
I highly recommend 7Cups to anyone who is struggling or needs someone to just listen. 7Cups helps so many people feel understood.

Misplaced priorities
September 11, 2020

I started to outline my thoughts and in the middle of my message thread the 'listener' responded "sorry, I actually just came here to look for donations. A family member tested positive for covid, would you be able to donate?" I was sitting on my couch in tears fighting the urge to self harm (this was mentioned in my first message to the 'listener') and instead of a safe environment to vent and talk with someone who might have an insight that I missed I ended up with a telemarketer or worse a possible scammer.

Supportive Environment
September 9, 2020

I really appreciate this platform. I like to reflect on my growth. I enjoy talking to other individuals who offer a different perspective and aren't in my circle of friends who will tell me what I want to hear. It seems like the standards are set pretty high.

I've been on the site for more than a year and my experience with Cups has been really good. It you don't suffer from serious mental issues but just need someone to talk to 7cups is for you. The listeners are regular people like you and me. So you can expect a little bit of issues finding the perfect one for you. But the community on the whole is very supportive. Given you are good and have no reports on you. For me as a member and listener I have faced issues but nothing too serious.
The site has helped me evolve to be a better person.

Nothing like this!
September 9, 2020

7 Cups is a truly underrated website. The resources and training this website provides are commendable and beyond helpful. I have been here as a member as well as a listener and everyone I have met has gone above and beyond to make sure I feel safe and heard as a listener and a member. It takes patience and tenacity to find someone who suits you best. Just as going to a therapist is a trial and error, finding a listener that listens to your problems the best is too. I am awed by how everyone here destigmatizes the idea of mental health and I think that's a massive contribution to the world of mental health. Rare gem!

A safe place for all
September 9, 2020

Nothing in the world is perfect. The site isn't either. However, I've witnessed people working together to make the site a better place. Although some listeners are new and inexperienced, I've come across great listeners on the site who helped me a lot when I was on my lowest. And for this, I will always be grateful to 7 cups. I would 100% recommend the site to everyone.

7 cups has become one of my absolute favorite things ever. I discovered 7 cups months ago, and became a member because I wanted to find someone to chat with. I left the chat feeling so much better, and relieved. It can be so difficult to find free, anonymous support, but that is exactly what you can get on 7 cups. I then decided to create a listener account, and really loved being able to support others. The whole community is so supportive and encouraging, and really want to see you succeed. There are also so many different opportunities available, such as the internship program or various leadership positions. I feel so lucky that I found this amazing site.

Mixed Bag
September 9, 2020

I am both a "listener" and a "member". I will be offering a review respective of each account.

Member: overall, not very good at all. Once, a listener literally replied with "lol" when I gave them my reasoning for reaching out. Additionally, they all offer horrible advice (when this is not okay and is against the rules) which they then get offended if you don't take it or listen to them. I have only ever had 1 or 2 good listeners out of the whole year I've been a member.

Listener: I'm conflicted. Many of the listeners are nice, whereas others are rude, disrespectful and impertinent. I rarely get greeted into a room unless I say hello to someone else first. I was turned down for getting support in regards to my confidence, which of course made my confidence a lot worse.

HOWEVER. I have had a good learning experience, and 7 Cups has taught me ways on how to truly listen to a person - for this, I am forever thankful.

7 Cups is a community that has made mental health support and awareness accessible globally - for free via trained volunteer listeners as well as through affordable therapy options. Based on the powerful approach of how something as 'simple' as active listening can help support others, you are welcome to Browse Listeners to vent to and attain emotional support. Apart from this feature, the site offers several moderated group support rooms, wherein various guided discussions as well as sharing circles take place. The site also has around 40 topic based subcommunities with great forum support. An Expert Mental Health News and Advice section also offers insight into tips and information from professionals. With other features like growth paths and community events, this site has lots to explore!

I stumbled upon 7 Cups when I was trying to research the idea of volunteering and supporting others online. As a mental health advocate and psychology student, I can say that 7 Cups has fulfilled my needs to practice what I love! As a youth leader, I am amazed by the leadership opportunities, teamwork, and collaboration on the site - seeing an international community of listeners as well as members leading initiatives that lead to lots of change has been super inspiring.

One thing I would say about 7 Cups is that it is tailored for endless growth opportunities. I found myself enjoying being an Intern, being supported and encouraged to research something creative, graduating with honors and then apart from helping as a listener, I was able to join so many diverse leadership opportunities! From listener growth and peer support to member support initiatives - this site continues to be a community where you can have your voice heard and supported.

Listener quality, site safety, and content factors are some that are consistently developed and the community has a very transparent way of sharing what is going on - I like feedback personally, and I like how 7 Cups has been growing based on feedback - directly from its users and volunteers!

I had a very upsetting experience on this website. Doesn't let you end the chat stupid website! I met a psychologist who made me do a test too do with his wife and showed me a photo and had to describe her in a few words quickly and cant say it seems or i think for example had too describe her dancing in a few words.and is she sexy joe what about her? "it took 2 seconds to type that joe" And the whole thing was so uncomfortable i tried to end the chat and then he got angry he said why did you end the chat and then i had to keep talking too him i had to make an exuses to go he got mad and said i was a joke and abusive too me. My mental health was already bad and has been made worse by this it should let you end the chat properly a traumatic experience. He also said stop making excuses and was very rude other times too. I ended up in tears and felt 10 times worse it still hurts now o dont understand why that had to happen to me its not fair

There are free exercises and community chat rooms that are free to get a lot of free fellowship advise and contact with people going through the same thing as you.
No wonder these people leaving bad reviews are going through a hard time. They seem to expect free therapy to be handed to them on the spot without a care of who is getting paid for their work. It may not be laid out to hand over a free perfect cure that suits grab happy snooty self entitled self centered people who think they shouldn't have to work for anything but I appreciate any resource free or not. Even if you volunteer I can see why you would still pay on top of that for counseling because giving and helping is part of recovery. Maybe they have never actually done the 10 steps in any fashion because they would know that helping people as a mission is part of the key to success and people should be paid for working and completing meaningful therapy.
