Yelp Reviews Summary

The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, primarily concerning its review management practices and aggressive advertising tactics. Many users express frustration over hidden reviews, perceived extortion for advertising, and a lack of genuine customer support. Positive aspects are scarce, with some customers appreciating the platform's potential for connecting with local businesses. However, the overwhelming sentiment reveals a distrust in the company's ethics and practices, leading to calls for accountability and transparency. Overall, the feedback indicates a critical need for Yelp to address these serious concerns to rebuild trust among its users.

Mega useful

Mega useful.

Find good places online or wherever you are, if you have the mobile app. Great intro to the social/review site culture.

Excessively friendly UI makes me feel like the internet is mocking me though.

I have found so many exciting and delicious places to eat with yelp that I would have never tried. It has also saved me a ton of money on places with bad reviews and I avoid them at all costs.

This was a great deal for the money - great location, clean units, nothing fancy, but flat screen tv's in every room, clean - and fun!

Not really a fan of Yelp. It's a "corporate" site. All for the money and not for the community.
But at the end of the day it helps a little bit when you want to form an idea.

Yelp.com is my treasure map when I am traveling which helps me to pick out some local restaurants for my culinary experience. In an unfamiar place, finding a place to eat can be a challenge somtimes. Luckily, yelp.com has been very helpful to me to discovery many exciting restaurants by simply logging in the website and keying in the location. For this reason alone, I would rate this website five star even though some of the reviews can be misleading,

I will start by saying i have never reviewed anything on yelp, and I really don't base where I go off the reviews. I do use the app on my iphone to find something to eat when I am in the city. The location service works well and there is usally a decent sized list. I like the the fact you can select "open stores" since i am a night owl.

All 7 reviews of my business have been filtered.

My conspiracy theory is this -- when I pulled my email list onto the site to find my friends they captured the list... and now, if they see someone on that list post a review, they block it, assuming it is an inside review. I know it sounds like paranoia, but it's the only explanation that makes any sense.

If I am correct, then it is an extremely ineffective method for what they are trying to do, as ALL of my clients are IN my email list. Isn't this also a breach of security if they retained my personal info to use that way? My business isn't a retail business serving random customers, I communicate w my clients thru email for appointment confirmations, etc... and therefore, they end up in my google address book by default.

Every single one of those reviews is sincere and unsolicited and I am so disturbed by the way this screening system works.

And yes, I do believe it's all part of their attempt to get me to sign up for one of their paid advertising programs... because they keep harassing me, even after I told them I had no interest.

If I can't trust their web site, then why on earth would I ever invest marketing dollars with them?

Yelp needs to get it straight already!

yelp.com has fitter system is worst, they suppost to crime they incurage dishonest
People I hope not on perpuse. I own motel people stay bring extra people for free when you charge them they put negative reviews any kind of charge they(mostly) don`t like and they write bad reviews only write false. Yelp. Could not check their review are fake!. Example. Girl from long beach she paid for two girls 2 nights first night 2 extra males in room they disturbed 12 a.m. to 3am. We urged first then warned they left before police arrive they broked bed. Now she stay in January specially to write place is bad everything is dirty. Yelp put that review and filtered good reviews. May be they want to do add with them. They charge $3. Per click which small business can`t afford. Good thing their system they send email same time when ever any body write review. I Urge to fix they fillter system. Review companies are new kind of money maker business. It is good and bad for businesses.

HELP!
May 19, 2011

HELP! We have a restraining order from a past employee who TOLD US he posted a completely false and slanderous review and Yelp will not consider removing it. I've sent 14 emails to *******@yelp.com. Each time, they answer me, but there's no progress. Our lawyer is building this into our case, but it might not be resolved until 2012. Does anybody have any advice as to what we can do in the meantime? I want them to look into the email address that the account is registered under and any activity on the account (i. E. changing the username) which I'm certain they can track, but they refuse. Urgent advice needed! Any advice?

I think this site is unfair in it's business practices. You can never trust a company that calls businesses and asks them for money to put up the good reviews and take off the bad reviews. I don't trust this site at all...

This site is very unfair in listing their postings. I have posted on several businesses and some recent postings will go to the top while others will not show up at all or be filtered. This seems very unfair to the person posting and certainly to a business when there is a positive posting.

Further, anyone associated with these sites should not be able to post to these sites.

I use the British version which is http://www.yelp.co.uk/
A good site for checking out all the local businesses.
Just type in your town name or postcode.
You can browse by business type - restaurants seems very popular.
I find it very easy to use but on the downside some of the reviews are businesses self promoting and others are made by people with a grudge.
Overall - give it a try.

A new owner took over Precision Tune Auto Care in Santa Clara. I was given great service and posted the review below on YELP, giving PTAC 5 stars. Three days later I noticed it was removed along with the only other 5-star review, leaving the four poor ratings from the previous owner(s). I reposted at 9:00PM -- it was again removed by 12:00PM. I tried reposting but my review was blocked. It appears that YELP is a scam. I read many reports about them calling business owners offering to remove negative reviews for exorbitant, on-going prices. Law suits are apparently under way. Visit www.yelplosangeles.com, a web site created to raise awareness about YELP scams. This is the review I posted: 4/22/2011 Dan, the new owner of Precision Tune Auto Care on Stevens Creek at San Tomas in Santa Clara, CA, ******* *******666, brings back morals forgotten by our dollar-hungry society: dignity, honesty, integrity. An oil change or repair job there is like a breath of fresh air - he actually LISTENS TO YOU, asks questions and makes observations, then sets an experienced mechanic to work. I was so tired of defending myself from rip-offs every time I went to a service station. Watch the ratings change from 2-stars to 5-stars! {Mark Twain said, "Always do right – this will gratify some and astonish the rest."}

Yelp buries small business by removing all positive reviews, unless they are willing to pay $300 a month to advertise with them! It's sad to see them bulling small local business like this.

Hopefully they get whats coming.

A lot of people on Yelp don't know how to write. Or spell. Or tell the truth. They're a bunch of overly-entitled kids who wave around their yelp account like some sort of threat to small businesses.

I don't understand how someone with an "elite" badge can get away with baldface lies about a business.

An earlier reviewer wrote about a class-action lawsuit vs. yelp filed by attys. Representing small-business owners who have been harrassed/victimized by yelp and its "Elite" reviewers. Here's the link to an article from the East Bay Express re this:
http://www.eastbayexpress.com/*******/archives/2010/02/24/class-action-lawsuit-filed-against-yelp
There are about 3 ff-up articles on it in the same site.

I'm a small-business owner and have experienced a lot of the same things as those named in this lawsuit. After declining to advertise on yelp, a negative review appeared on my yelp page, written by an "Elite" reviewer who wrote it even though she had never stepped foot in my business office. The review is all lies. Yelp has chosen to keep this 1 negative review in a prominent location on my page. In the meantime, all the other reviews, all positive, "disappeared." This is standard practice for yelp.
Any new review would show for a couple of days and then "disappear."

Don't believe ANY review by an "Elite" yelper. As one "Elite" yelper (whose review shouldn't even be on here, since sitejabber states "do not review if affiliated or have a conflict of interest with this website") has written here, they ("Elite" yelpers) are given "perks" for their reviews.
Yelp and its "Elite" yelpers are anti-small business. Is it any wonder that after all these years, yelp still is not profitable?
