DO NOT do business with Vivint. I possess an audio recording—captured by Vivint themselves, as they record all customer calls—in which a staff member explicitly acknowledges that the salesperson informed me I could cancel service at any time after paying off the equipment. When I later attempted to cancel—because I only wanted to retain the equipment and never intended to continue the service—I was informed that I had been placed into a five-year contract. This was never disclosed to me and is something I would never have agreed to, particularly given that ongoing service was not my objective. A customer relations representative, Neil, initially attempted to resolve the issue but stated that his manager refused, insisting the company "follow the contract," despite the fact that the contract was obtained through clear misrepresentation. This experience reflects deceptive sales practices and a troubling disregard for informed consent. I strongly caution others to stay away from this company.

On August 21,2025, Vivint's Loyalty Department (Ref CA-*******, Service S-*******) emailed me confirming six (6) months of complimentary service and stating that my past-due balance of $114.73 would be fully covered—"no payment is required for this balance." Despite this written agreement, Vivint repeatedly called and harassed me for payment and on September 26,2025 withdrew $112.69 from my account without authorization. These calls continued even after I shared the confirmation email, causing significant stress and inconvenience to my family. I have clear documentation of the promise of free service and the unauthorized charge, yet Vivint has not provided a satisfactory explanation or immediate correction. Consumers deserve better. My experience shows a company willing to ignore its own written commitments and engage in aggressive billing tactics. I strongly advise anyone considering Vivint to proceed with extreme caution.

I was with vivint since 2020. They caught me outside my home on their door to door sales calls, but I was in the market for a system and heard them out ended up purchasing and things were fine for awhile. Eventually the cameras started glitching or losing connectivity constantly, then the DVR completely failed, and after I had paid off the equipment and the monthly monitoring services I still paid 60 dollars a month for also completely stopped working. So I called to cancel because I was paying for a non-working service and I was charged an additional two months. I call them again and say hey this was canceled they informed me that I couldn't cancel without paying 123 dollars for the monitoring services they acknowledge they were not providing. That phone call took just over 45 minutes to get to that point where they would even stop trying to sell me on it even after I told them multiple times I had already purchased an entirely different system already.

If I could give zero stars, I would. The customer service is the WORST. I was a longtime customer (10+ years) and hadn't needed any repairs in several years. But over time some of the sensors failed and when I called to trouble shoot and/or get new ones, the nightmare began. Charges for everything so for four failed sensors, it was going to cost a few hundred to replace. Never mind that I had been overpaying for an outdated system for years (not my biggest knock against them since Vivint certainly isn't alone in leaving existing customers paying more while they give tons of deals to attract new customers). Calls would take so long that I'd have to get off (most of us don't have two free hours to trouble shoot) and then when I would call back, I'd have to start all over again. Why bother to enter call notes if they don't get used. Most of the customer service reps were difficult to understand, lots of attempts to upsell me rather than just addressing my issues, and with no authority to make decisions -- the number of times I was put on long holds while they tried to get approval from higher ups was mind boggling. Seven hours between calls and chats over the span of three days. One person was supposed to call me back at an agreed upon time because after nearly two hours, she still hadn't gotten permission to waive fees and equipment costs and then called me several hours after the set time when I wasn't free to pick up the call. Gave them multiple opportunities to try to make things right before finally deciding I was so DONE, and then it took an hour on the phone to cancel. Never again!

Horrible
July 30, 2023

The techs that come out and troubleshoot are pretty good, but there's not much communication with those that send them out. The techs on the phone are some of the worst I've ever dealt with. The equipment isn't great. Cameras constantly going offline. The panel needs to be rebooted every day. I have no confidence it would ever catch a criminal in the act. The doorbell will sometimes ring, sometimes won't. But then it will ring when nobody is there. And I've never had much luck talking to the person ringing the bell. Overall, it's a horrible system.

Harder to get rid of than lice
July 25, 2023

I was a customer for 13 years and they won't acknowledge my cancellation. They keep billing my card. Every person you speak to either drops the call or sends you to "customer loyalty." They offshore their support and you can't understand them. We're literally cancelling our credit card to get the charges to stop.

Terrible Service
July 25, 2023

I am a first time home buyer and was researching good home security systems. I stumbled upon this company and thought to try them out. Everything was good until recently. I have had them for about a year now. I just got back from vacation and my system was down. I called for them to troubleshoot and was told that they had to call out a technician and that it was $100. I was confused because i talked to about 4 different people when first getting the system and was never told that information. I don't like being blindsided so informed them that i would like to cancel. They then tell me that if i want to cancel i have to pay the entire system which is almost $3000. I was also never told that when i got the system. She tells me that she is sorry and can offer me an additional service (for an additional fee) that will waive the charge of a technician coming out. So the solution was to sell me another service to repair my current equipment. I am at a loss for words. They will literally tell you anything to get your business. Research other companies before deciding.

I hate vivint with all my heart
July 24, 2023

My husband bought a house and it had a vivint unit already installed, when they got word of a new owner they were pushy and pressured him into paying for a subscription that he has tried to cancel + end for over 7 months now, they call us daily harassing for money and every time we tell them we want to cancel and every time they call back the next day begging for money and it repeats, they send letters threatening termination of service then never going so, they send threatening emails and never follow through. This week they decided to not only send us letters but also charge us $200+ in one day! 4 months of unauthorized service charged back to back using DEBIT and was requested to be held by vivint, we called the bank to despite the charge and she was confused and said to call back when the payment is no longer pending when the money already came out. We are currently a hour into being on hold, we not only triggered the house alarm then got hung up on the home unit but are still actively on hold right now, this company is absolutely terrible and disrespectful, their actual service isn't good either, we waited 5 minutes before someone was contacted for a door alarm then was hung up on with no reply when called back. An actual joke

Something bad happened. This company is a scam.
July 24, 2023

I've had Vivint for 3 1/2 years. Something happened within the last 6 months or so to this company and it is no longer a quality company. They pushed an update out around March2023 or something and since then my entire system has crashed and glitching out. I have been through every bit of troubleshooting with the company and they still refuse to replace the failing equipment. Mind you my equipment is supposed to be covered by a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Vivint refuses to replace faulty equipment and insists on billing me $100 for a service technician to come do the same troubleshooting I've already done with the company. We have factory reset equipment, disconnected/reconnected, flashed equipment, updates on everything, etc. nothing has corrected the problems.

Vivint refuses to escalate to higher management and demands I pay them MORE money to fix the failing system. It's extortion. It should be illegal. DO NOT BUY VIVINT! This company has become a scam and are absolute garbage.

I paid off equipment last May and paid the contract off in December. I have called 4 times and they are still sending me bills. I have done everything they have said. I have even threatened attorneys and they still will not stop. I even have emails that says my account is closed. This company doesn't deserve your business. They don't know what customer service is. They are harassing me and its is getting very tiresome.

Worst Company Ever Don't Use
July 22, 2023

First of the sales reps lie to your face. They told my wife and I we were in a two year contract and turns out we are in a 5 year contract. If there is ever an issue with your system thats faulty, Vivint will not send a tech out to assist you. Vivint will charge you $100.00 to send a tech out to fix the issue. I advise Vivint 7-22-23 that our key fab pad didn't work. I advised them I wasn't paying for a tech to come out for faulty equipment. They then turn around and tell me I can buy a package when I call a service tech out that I will not be charged. This company is a scam do not purchase or listen to the sells rep. Please if you ever listen to anyone do not do Vivint.

Horrible experience
July 21, 2023

Horrible experience with this company. I have been with vivint for a few years, during the first contract everything seemed great. I never really needed the customer service, when it was time to renew a rep contacted me informing that I was eligible for a free upgrade. The rep was wrong and I was not informed I would receive a HUGE bill afterwards. I discussed this with many other reps and no solution was made. Not only did get an unexpected bill, but also was stuck into a new contract that could not be canceled unless paid in full plus the upgraded fees. I have never had such a terrible experience with a company like vivint. The only solution I was given was to reduce my bill by referring a friend to vivint...why would I refer someone to this type of service?

They do fake Promise
July 19, 2023

I recently had an extremely disappointing experience with Vivint, and I feel compelled to share my encounter to warn others about their deceptive sales tactics and abysmal customer service.

Upon signing up for their service, the sales agent promised a complimentary month of service and equipment. However, just a week later, when I contacted their support team to inquire about this offer, I was shocked to learn that the free period was only for three days! They said its on email but when i see the document there is no signature of mine on that. This blatant miscommunication left a sour taste in my mouth from the start.

Moreover, when I tried to resolve the issue by reaching out to their customer care department, I was met with outright hostility. The customer representatives were rude, unhelpful, and completely unprofessional. Each time I called, I was forced to endure an excruciating 20-minute wait only to have my call unceremoniously canceled without any explanation and waited for represenative for a call back which never came.

To add insult to injury, when discussing the equipment's cost, the company insisted on a staggering $3,000 USD price tag, despite the similar kind of equipment costs us mere $300 on Amazon. Alternatively, they offered an absurd contract spanning 60 months if I refused to pay the equpment fee with in a month. This sort of deceptive pricing is not only unethical but also an outright scam.

It is unacceptable for any company to engage in such deceitful practices and treat their customers with such disrespect. I am deeply disappointed with the way Vivint has conducted itself throughout this ordeal.

I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of vivint and their services. Their false promises, unprofessional behavior, and deceptive sales tactics are indicative of a business that cannot be trusted. Instead, consider seeking out reputable might be ADT and honest providers who prioritize customer satisfaction over squeezing out every last penny from unsuspecting clients.

Save yourself the headache and avoid Vivint at all costs. Your time, money, and sanity are better spent elsewhere.

HORRIBLE! GO ANYWHERE ELSE!
July 18, 2023

Vivint - We purchased our home security system & monitoring which was installed on April 7,2023 and spent in cash, as we were advised to do to save money, plus an additional amount on a garage door opener/install because Vivint told us that their technology could work with the garage door technology/camera to provide us better security. Here we are on July 17,2023, with that not working as well. On April 7,2023, our service technician, Naeem, installed security devices, cameras and a door knob. My issue is with the door knob. Naeem worked on that for an extensive period of time, had his supervisor look at it, said it was "the best he could do" then told us because the house was a brand new build it will "take a couple months" to get the lock and door working properly together cause the "door is brand new." Well fast forward three months, the lock is not only working worse and worse, I have to physically lift the entry door knob to get the lock to properly latch - and only sometimes. The installation completely was botched as far as the door jam / latch was concerned & now the lock has become faulty because of it.
I have been on the phone for 2 hours now as we speak with no resolution and am on hold, once again, now being transferred to a supervisor of customer loyalty, Kel. At this point my husband and I are completely disgusted with how this has been handled up until this point. I spoke with a supervisor, Brandon, whose resolution was speaking apples to my oranges. We're now at the point of attempting to getting a full credit and uninstall of all of our equipment. Brandon said he DOES care but he'll get us a refund "if that's what we want to do." It is NOT what we wanted to do initially but here we are now. The customer service is unreal. We have paid in full and on time each month. We asked for free monitoring x 1 year and fixing the door lock situation as well as the garage situation. They said the most they could do is refund 1 month do monitoring. THAT is the best you can do to keep a paying customer satisfied? A $61 refund?
At this point we are uninstalling. We want and expect our full money back. I've already filed with Better Business Bureau and am working on getting a call to corporate today, whose number was conveniently "not available, because they don't have one." Right. The irony here? I don't trust the people telling me to trust them to secure my home. How do you put trust in a security company who doesn't give a rats $#*! about you?

To anyone reading this, take your money. Go elsewhere. There's no customer service at Vivint. They'll take your money and move along to the next person trying to make their home a safer place.

I've already filed at BBB & NJ Consumer Affairs. Looking forward to the response I get. Next up is a lawsuit.

I cancelled my service within the 3 days. It's 2 months later their still taking money out of my account. I no longer have the equipment they came and picked it up. I'm fighting with the company and the financial company. The financial company still has no idea I cancelled my service. They have done nothing but lied from the very beginning as far as monthly cost to you can cancel service and owe nothing if done in 3 days. Please find another security system company that has a better repetition.

So Vivint came out and added a tilt sensor to my alarm which was fine everything worked as it should. The sensor failed just recently, and they are stating it was a third-party sensor and they can't replace it. So, the techs are just putting in third party sensor now, so they don't have to replace it on their dime.

Vivant must understand that they are obligated to be honest, even if we sign their contracts. Revoking access to my purchased equipment should be an unlawful action. I bought their Alarm Monitoring Services and paid $1000's for their equipment (sensors, camera, light, locks, and much more). When I cancelled their monitoring services, they blocked my access to the phone APP that controls all my purchased equipment. I still have access from my panel; however, that is not how they sold me on their home automation. Alarm companies provide a service of Alarm monitoring ONLY and will sell you additional convenience products for home automation. I assumed similar to what I would purchase at Costco. Their core service is Alarm Monitoring only. By choosing to block my access to my purchased products, this action destroys their value.
This needs to be recognized as not legal and brought to court. They need to be stopped.
I do not recommend them.

Every time I have issues their thermostat each person transfers to the other representative and ultimately they ask me to call google nest or an HVAC technician. They do not provide any kind of technical visit support may it be for doors or sensors or thermostat unlike ADT which do send technicians for on site fixes as required.
I use multiple different companies due to my scope of worm in real estate and if you think of buying vivint just rather pay less and buy it yourself through amazon then by from vivint.

Vivint did not work for me
July 14, 2023

I tried to trigger the sensors on purpose and they don't work 100% of the time. The other problem that I was having was time delay. I get notification of incidents after it is too late. The other problem is cancellation. Calling and canceling is difficult with Vivint even if you have month to months contract.

Absolute garbage of a company!
From faulty equipment having to be replaced within a few months (I had to pay a call out fee) to equipment being installed incorrectly (which I also had to pay a call out fee). Alarm would randomly go off. Automated doors would work when they felt like it and thermostat that would not change when using the app. Tie this all in to at least an hour long call, anytime you need assistance. Then you'll need a translator because when you do get a hold of someone, they can't understand you and vice versa. Should have read reviews before messing with this overpriced "company"

Fraudulent Charges
July 12, 2023

Absolutely do not use Vivint under any circumstances. Long story short, I recently called to cancel my service. Instead of cancelling, I renewed the service at a lower fee. I have e-mail confirmation of my renewed contract and the renewed rate. Vivint has chosen not to honor that rate, even after I called customer service to explain the situation. Since they will not honor the contract, I of course will not pay the bill (or the portion of the bill that exceeds the rate i agreed to). Their billing department has harassed me looking for payment - I'm talking calls every single day. It's a shame as if Vivint devoted the recourses to customer service that they did to trying to collect on fraudulent charges, then they probably would be able to rectify the customer service issues that many have complained about here.

They trick you into the equipment and if you don't cancel with a written cancelation you will owe the 4,000 dollars on the equipment because it's a loan threw a bank. I sent the form to them via email and they still screwed me and now I have a 66.00 per month payment or i will default on a loan and get bad credit and collections. And the service is spotty at best
