DO NOT do business with Vivint. I possess an audio recording—captured by Vivint themselves, as they record all customer calls—in which a staff member explicitly acknowledges that the salesperson informed me I could cancel service at any time after paying off the equipment. When I later attempted to cancel—because I only wanted to retain the equipment and never intended to continue the service—I was informed that I had been placed into a five-year contract. This was never disclosed to me and is something I would never have agreed to, particularly given that ongoing service was not my objective. A customer relations representative, Neil, initially attempted to resolve the issue but stated that his manager refused, insisting the company "follow the contract," despite the fact that the contract was obtained through clear misrepresentation. This experience reflects deceptive sales practices and a troubling disregard for informed consent. I strongly caution others to stay away from this company.

On August 21,2025, Vivint's Loyalty Department (Ref CA-*******, Service S-*******) emailed me confirming six (6) months of complimentary service and stating that my past-due balance of $114.73 would be fully covered—"no payment is required for this balance." Despite this written agreement, Vivint repeatedly called and harassed me for payment and on September 26,2025 withdrew $112.69 from my account without authorization. These calls continued even after I shared the confirmation email, causing significant stress and inconvenience to my family. I have clear documentation of the promise of free service and the unauthorized charge, yet Vivint has not provided a satisfactory explanation or immediate correction. Consumers deserve better. My experience shows a company willing to ignore its own written commitments and engage in aggressive billing tactics. I strongly advise anyone considering Vivint to proceed with extreme caution.

I was with vivint since 2020. They caught me outside my home on their door to door sales calls, but I was in the market for a system and heard them out ended up purchasing and things were fine for awhile. Eventually the cameras started glitching or losing connectivity constantly, then the DVR completely failed, and after I had paid off the equipment and the monthly monitoring services I still paid 60 dollars a month for also completely stopped working. So I called to cancel because I was paying for a non-working service and I was charged an additional two months. I call them again and say hey this was canceled they informed me that I couldn't cancel without paying 123 dollars for the monitoring services they acknowledge they were not providing. That phone call took just over 45 minutes to get to that point where they would even stop trying to sell me on it even after I told them multiple times I had already purchased an entirely different system already.

If I could give zero stars, I would. The customer service is the WORST. I was a longtime customer (10+ years) and hadn't needed any repairs in several years. But over time some of the sensors failed and when I called to trouble shoot and/or get new ones, the nightmare began. Charges for everything so for four failed sensors, it was going to cost a few hundred to replace. Never mind that I had been overpaying for an outdated system for years (not my biggest knock against them since Vivint certainly isn't alone in leaving existing customers paying more while they give tons of deals to attract new customers). Calls would take so long that I'd have to get off (most of us don't have two free hours to trouble shoot) and then when I would call back, I'd have to start all over again. Why bother to enter call notes if they don't get used. Most of the customer service reps were difficult to understand, lots of attempts to upsell me rather than just addressing my issues, and with no authority to make decisions -- the number of times I was put on long holds while they tried to get approval from higher ups was mind boggling. Seven hours between calls and chats over the span of three days. One person was supposed to call me back at an agreed upon time because after nearly two hours, she still hadn't gotten permission to waive fees and equipment costs and then called me several hours after the set time when I wasn't free to pick up the call. Gave them multiple opportunities to try to make things right before finally deciding I was so DONE, and then it took an hour on the phone to cancel. Never again!

Worst Customer Service EVER
July 9, 2022

I have been trying to get a system installed, they billed me 3 times in first 7 days, I called 10 days ago and they agreed it was an error and to give credit for those charges, never happened... Two weeks ago they came out and installed doorbell camera and then said he forgot the rest of equipment and needs to reschedule. Today was the reschedule, just received an email of cancellation, thus I waited all day for nothing. Now I am on hold for 29 minutes and 24 back on the live chat button. POS company :(

Scammmm..
June 30, 2022

This company is a scam. Seems to be a common theme for many companies these days. Their equipment is trash and barely works. The rely on your electric and wifi for their product to work. The cameras and doorbell ring goes offline every two days no matter if we have internet or not. They, of course, don't take any accountability for their equipment and wants me to take accountability that I signed a weak contract that states they gave a generous grace period of three days. Three days to figure out your company is terrible and guess what does not matter you still have to be bullied into paying off the entire amount or let them"help you" by bringing tech after tech "free of charge" to fix their bogus stuff. It's not free of charge when i paid for this to work wow.

Absolutely Incompetent
June 30, 2022

My panel was arming itself. I could not disarm it. Called support. Rebooted panel. Same issue. Tech had me remove screw from top of panel to manually power cycle it... he wanted me to remove battery. This set the alarm off. I removed the wire from the battery but alarm was still going off. I'm screaming at him over the phone to shut it off and he was screaming back at me to unplug the battery... which I had already done. Finally the idiot rebooted the panel. Got supervisor on phone. I told her we wanted to cancel our service. Got passed to two cancellation people. I'm not using the panel yet they want to charge us till the end of our billing cycle due to the fact that I did not given them 30 days notice in writing. Absolute bull$#*!. Every time there is a problem with this panel they expect us to be technicians. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE.

Cancelling is costly
June 24, 2022

I had their service for 6 years. I had to cancel service due to moving. I was told it was going to cost $2,000 to get out of the contract. I paid the $800 for the balance due on the equipment.
Also note it's near impossible to write a review...

Vivint sales guy harassed me for over 5 hours
June 19, 2022

Sales guy had me talking to him on my front porch for dang near 5 hours, wasted my entire Saturday! I finally agreed to let him schedule the service and let his tech install it just to get him/them to go away!… He did give me a good deal but I Really don't need this stuff or another bill which I explained about 1,000 times, when I repeatedly told him I already work 60-70+ hours a week to afford to live as it is but I guess to this guys it didn't matter, I was another sale he was going to make no matter what, we talked for so long about options and what the system can do that his mouth went dry and he had to ask for a drink and then to use my bathroom! This is the worst experience I have ever been in in a very long time, I hate people who refuse to take no for an answer and just don't leave, and continue to push till you feel like there is no other option left but to just freaking do it… I should have called the cops but I was just so annoyed after the first 3 hours that I was getting petty and I didn't even think of calling the cops as an option to get him to leave.……
It was after 7:30pm when the salesman left and well after 8pm when the tech left.
Install tech was very nice, quick and helpful for the system I'm going to remove from my home though.

Vivint.
June 16, 2022

I would not recommend Vivint to my worst enemy. Someone I used to live with got vivint installed in our home. I was out of state when the sales person came, when the technician installed the equipment, and when we moved and the equipment was removed. They are now trying to get the security system installed at their new home but are unable to get it installed because EVERYTHING is in my name. Even though I was not present for any of this process. My name was FORGED on the contract by someone at vivint and since their customer service is absolute garbage I am unable to do anything about it at the moment. They can't do a thing for you on the phone and when they get tired of putting you on hold they just hang out. DO NOT GET VIVINT.

The worst customer service and experience
June 16, 2022

Vivint is the one of the worst companies to do business with. The salesman is a liar and says whatever he needs to say to get the sale. Consumer, please read the fine print and make sure you get buyout quotes in writing. I went through too many hoops to get my service cancelled. On top this they had me waiting with a 4 hour window and they never showed up or called to let me know they weren't coming. This is by far the worst customer service and experience. Please do your home work and make sure know what you are getting into.

When good it's very good and when bad it's horrid
May 18, 2022

The system was installed, techs are nice, knowledgeable and it is easy to use. Today, I received an email that my notification number had been changed; I didn't change it so that was concerning. I called support. I had to call various support numbers trying to connect with a human, but each time I tried to get a human on the other end (to ask questions) the system disconnected me. Finally after getting someone on the phone to troubleshoot the panel, I asked about the SMS change and was told, "oh it was probably a mistake. Don't worry ma'am your system will probably alert you if someone has hacked your system." Probably, well that is great... probably. Once the system is installed, fingers crossed it works perfectly the whole time otherwise you are on your own. I suddenly feel like I do not have a security system anymore and am very disappointed as I was so happy with it. Buyer beware.

Pushy salespeople who ignore no soliciting signs

Salesman kept knocking despite having signs saying "no sales." They insisted i needed to sign up for their program because the had celebrity endorsement. They then refused to take no for an answer until I shut the door in their face. I have never done business with this company and never will.

Outright criminal
March 29, 2022

Terrible customer service and equipment, the technician will not show up for appointments when you complain and get a new appointment to ask they not send the original technician, and they do any.
Found out when getting a new system, half the sensors had not been working, including the fire break, which was to alert the company of the fire.
The cameras did not work; they only recorded after someone left the room.
Then when canceling the charge for an entire month after you put your request in.

Double billing and fraud
March 14, 2022

If we could leave a negative star, we would. The equipment never worked, but the biggest issue was what happened when we cancelled. We had paid outright for the equipment and had tenants moving into the house. The tenants decided they wanted to keep the Vivint service, so they called in to have the service transferred. Instead, Vivint created a new account for them, instead of merging ours. The end result was that we were billed for 3 months while the tenants were also billed, for the same address, and the same service, and the same equipment. I spent an hour on the phone with them just now, and was told that because we didn't authorize the tenants to take over our account (mind you, we were never told we needed to do that), we are out the three months. They double-billed us and the tenants, and after speaking to multiple people and their supervisors, I was told it was my fault. So, this company will perpetrate fraud against their customers and will not even try to make it right. STAY AWAY.

WORSE ALARM SYSTEM EVER
February 2, 2022

Worse alarm system ever! The alarm siren is super quiet. The door sensors are super quiet. The cameras are ALWAYS lagging. The cameras always detect bugs so all night my phone is going off for movement detection. POINTLESS! My car got hit outside my house at the end of MY DRIVEWAY and the cameras did not catch anything at all! My view limit is to the street and it still did not catch that accident. It will not detect person until they are ringing my doorbell already. Imagine if it was a burglar, that is a loss cause. The glass breaker goes off to any noise, even my kids when they are running around playing. One time I had a ball break my window and shattered it while I was out of town, the notification said glass break but I could not check the cameras to see what happened because it never loaded plus it took vivint roughly 7 minutes to call me!

I thought it was my internet so I called and upgraded my internet speed and upgraded my phone because I thought since I have an old phone that the 5G was not good on the old phone. None of that helped at all. VIVINT cameras still lag and never wants to load.

When they salesman came to my house he said it was NO EARLY CANCELLATION FEES and NO CONTRACT, you just pay it every month or it cancels like a prepaid phone so I set it up on automatic payments. THAT'S A LIE! They are charging almost $1,600 to cancel after 8 months of being with them. Every question I asked the representative, he would put me on hold to ask a supervisor.

14-day trial scam - beware
December 29, 2021

I bought a house that already had a Vivint security system installed. I was hesitant about activation, since I never heard of the company. The salesperson offered me a 14 day free trial, so I signed up.

On the fist day I noticed my credit card was charged - strike one

I was walked through setup over text message - strike two (remember I had no previous knowledge or context of this company and I am supposed to fully understand the system after 5 text messages)

I tried calling customer service and was transferred 7 times - strike 3

Thus I cancelled the service after 1 day.

No refund yet.

Fraud
July 5, 2021

This company smells and reek of fraud, their business practice is basically $#*!ty. In 2018, when I bought my townhouse I signed up with them for home security, transaction with them was okay until I sold the house in 2020 and canceled the account with them. That was when the nightmare starts.
I paid the cancellation fee, etc. Then months after, to be more precise I started getting calls from them in January 2021 that I didn't close the account ‘properly' and that am still owing some money. I was perplexed. What does close an account properly means? And if there was an issue with closing the account properly why is that my problem?
Anyway, I started getting barrage of calls from them. And a few days ago they took the case to debt collectors and now am owing $1564. 84. It seems the public have no protection against fraudulent practices by companies like Vivint. Warning to the public - avoid them like a plague.
