DO NOT do business with Vivint. I possess an audio recording—captured by Vivint themselves, as they record all customer calls—in which a staff member explicitly acknowledges that the salesperson informed me I could cancel service at any time after paying off the equipment. When I later attempted to cancel—because I only wanted to retain the equipment and never intended to continue the service—I was informed that I had been placed into a five-year contract. This was never disclosed to me and is something I would never have agreed to, particularly given that ongoing service was not my objective. A customer relations representative, Neil, initially attempted to resolve the issue but stated that his manager refused, insisting the company "follow the contract," despite the fact that the contract was obtained through clear misrepresentation. This experience reflects deceptive sales practices and a troubling disregard for informed consent. I strongly caution others to stay away from this company.

On August 21,2025, Vivint's Loyalty Department (Ref CA-*******, Service S-*******) emailed me confirming six (6) months of complimentary service and stating that my past-due balance of $114.73 would be fully covered—"no payment is required for this balance." Despite this written agreement, Vivint repeatedly called and harassed me for payment and on September 26,2025 withdrew $112.69 from my account without authorization. These calls continued even after I shared the confirmation email, causing significant stress and inconvenience to my family. I have clear documentation of the promise of free service and the unauthorized charge, yet Vivint has not provided a satisfactory explanation or immediate correction. Consumers deserve better. My experience shows a company willing to ignore its own written commitments and engage in aggressive billing tactics. I strongly advise anyone considering Vivint to proceed with extreme caution.

I was with vivint since 2020. They caught me outside my home on their door to door sales calls, but I was in the market for a system and heard them out ended up purchasing and things were fine for awhile. Eventually the cameras started glitching or losing connectivity constantly, then the DVR completely failed, and after I had paid off the equipment and the monthly monitoring services I still paid 60 dollars a month for also completely stopped working. So I called to cancel because I was paying for a non-working service and I was charged an additional two months. I call them again and say hey this was canceled they informed me that I couldn't cancel without paying 123 dollars for the monitoring services they acknowledge they were not providing. That phone call took just over 45 minutes to get to that point where they would even stop trying to sell me on it even after I told them multiple times I had already purchased an entirely different system already.

Sep 19, 2025

If I could give zero stars, I would. The customer service is the WORST. I was a longtime customer (10+ years) and hadn't needed any repairs in several years. But over time some of the sensors failed and when I called to trouble shoot and/or get new ones, the nightmare began. Charges for everything so for four failed sensors, it was going to cost a few hundred to replace. Never mind that I had been overpaying for an outdated system for years (not my biggest knock against them since Vivint certainly isn't alone in leaving existing customers paying more while they give tons of deals to attract new customers). Calls would take so long that I'd have to get off (most of us don't have two free hours to trouble shoot) and then when I would call back, I'd have to start all over again. Why bother to enter call notes if they don't get used. Most of the customer service reps were difficult to understand, lots of attempts to upsell me rather than just addressing my issues, and with no authority to make decisions -- the number of times I was put on long holds while they tried to get approval from higher ups was mind boggling. Seven hours between calls and chats over the span of three days. One person was supposed to call me back at an agreed upon time because after nearly two hours, she still hadn't gotten permission to waive fees and equipment costs and then called me several hours after the set time when I wasn't free to pick up the call. Gave them multiple opportunities to try to make things right before finally deciding I was so DONE, and then it took an hour on the phone to cancel. Never again!

Don't give service
October 11, 2022

We ordered Vivint in July, they installed part and we are waiting for the rest. Keep getting told they have no installers, and promise to call back next day. This has happened 3 times. Just want my money back for service and equipment..

Stay away from Vivint
October 7, 2022

I've used the Vivint service for 3 years and it's the worst experience and biggest waste of money. The equipment is extremely overpriced and never works. I've had to contact costumer service repeatedly the entire time I've had the equipment. The staff who I speak with are friendly enough. The techs who came to my house to try to get things working when the tech in the phone couldn't were lazy for the lack of my ability to find a kinder word. Nothing ever gets fixed and they won't replace your equipment when they can see the equipment they did sell to you has been crap the entire time. They'll give you an offer to buy new equipment for tons more money.
In today's world is cheaper, easier, and more effective to buy your own cameras from someone like Ring or best buy and put together a home security system yourself. Whatever you do stay far far away from Vivint.
Take a look at the Vivint reviews that come up on your Internet search. I'm willing to bet most of the sites giving positive reviews about Vivint are not places where actual customers can leave a review such as here. What does that mean? Sponsored reviews i. E. paid reviews. Don't believe them and end up a sucker like I did.

Never works
October 6, 2022

Can never view my cameras from my phone even with the WiFi on. The main panel loads about as well as my phone. What is the point of a security system if you can't see who or what is in them? Not worth the money. I will be going with a different company!

What's Worse? The Product or the Service?
October 5, 2022

Honestly it's hard to say which is worse, as they are both so bad.

Product = the glass break sensors will cause false alarms almost every time you activate the alarm, so you basically can't use them. Other motion and door sensors repeatedly "lose connection with panel," so they don't work large portions of the time as well. We've basically stopped using our system because nothing actually works.

Service = when an alarm does go off, we assume it's a false alarm (which, already, is like what's the point of this?). When we do get that call from Vivint Monitoring, there is ZERO urgency, and they'll slowly ask "do you want us to send the authorities?" Despite having at least a half-dozen of these calls, when I report false alarms to Vivint as reason for refund, they tell me there is "no record" of these interactions with Vivint Monitoring.

Oh and by the way they lock you into 5-year contracts that are virtually impossible to cancel. I'm more than 1/4 through my contract, yet was told I'd have to pay over $2,000 to get out of my Vivint agreement.

This is the first time I've ever written a review for any company. I'm 39 years old and have never felt compelled to write a review for anything ever in my life, positive or negative, but my experience with Vivint has been THAT bad. If you are reading this, I IMPLORE you to take your business to a more reputable company.

Vivint is scammer
October 2, 2022

I got scammed by Vivint sale man name Blake Matthews. He told me to do trial 1 month then after one month, I can cancel if I don't like it. So I try to cancel and he is not responding. Even customer service could not reach out to him. When I called customer service they said too late to cancel. Now I am stuck with 60 months contract that I don't want to do. If you want to cancel you will have to pay 30 months for early cancellation. I pretty sure most people stick with Vivint is not because of theyvlike it. It is because of they got scammed and stuck with 60 months contract. I will tell all my frds, everybody I know and please passed this to everyone.

P*** Poor Service... nothing has changed
September 29, 2022

To summarize, I looked into Vivint in 2020. They screwed up the initial install of the system and had to return multiple times. I attached a photo of what they did to my wiring panel. On one of the returned visits, the installer told me that a worker from another area (seasonal) and if he came back again, I would have to pay for his gas. It was all I could do not to immediately kick his butt out of my house. I decided to cancel the service within about 30 days. They began harassing me, I kept telling them to come and get their equipment, but they wouldn't. The harassment stopped after a few months which was fine. Then, last week, out of the blue, I began receiving daily 'The System Has Not Been Armed' email messages. Don't know what triggered this to start. I replied that I don't have their security but the messages keep coming... save yourself time and A LOT of aggravation and skip this company.

If I could give it no starts, I would! Buyer beware!
September 26, 2022

I paid off my loan and they continued to bill me constantly! I had to prove to them through paper work that I did! Now, I can't get into my security system to use it. They say if it's paid off, I can still use it without monitoring. That's just not true!

A total SCAM, in my opinion
September 24, 2022

I moved to leave a domestic situation. The salesperson took possession of the equipment... over a year ago. They keep charging me for equipment and services I am not receiving, threatening to ruin my credit if I stop. How is this legal, pretty sure it is not. Hired a lawyer to fight this. Like selling me a car, the dealer taking it back in the stealth of night, then selling it to someone else and making me make payments.

USELESS GARBAGE!
September 23, 2022

Don't want to pay for monthly monitoring? Only want to use it locally? You are SOL. NOTHING will work. Your doorbell won't work. You cannot use the app. NOTHING! Total waste. No help from customer service either. They will not offer a reset code... NOTHING! Only choice is to rip it out of the wall and start over.

Not a good experience
September 19, 2022

Have not had a good experience at all.
The salesperson came over and misquoted my system (quoted low, ended up double the price).
Then they promised that my existing sensors would work. They didn't and now I'm without door sensors on two doors.
Cannot get a call back when I call Vivint, and finally, I discover today that there's no desktop access to the cameras and system.
If I could go back I'd have stayed with ADT. I am paying double the price for half the service and can't get a call back. Definite buyer's remorse.

Not Honest
September 13, 2022

The salesman came to my door and seemed really nice. He gave a great presentation and I was convinced to switch alarm systems. First red flag was that he didn't give me a chance to schedule installation and just told the technicians to come without asking me if I had time for a 4 hour installation. He told me I was approved for $4000 credit and that my equipment would cost me $3100. Coincidentally the taxes and other hidden fees He didn't mention can to exactly $4000. The technicians just started walking through my house and taking down my current security system after I told them not to because I was paid through the year and was going to keep it and compare. They do not have any wireless cameras or equipment. Before I knew it, I had holes drilled and cords running all through my house in very noticeable places. The motion sensor doesn't pick up vehicles that pull in the yard or when we walk around the yard, yet it went off every 15 minutes at all hours of the night detecting the rain outside. My Ring System picks up everything I need it to and nothing I don't. You cannot purchase additional equipment to add and install yourself. You have to make an service appointment every time. The salesman lied to me and said I had 30 days to cancel the service. I'm glad that I read the contract that stated 3 days. Be very cautious with their unethical sales and business practices.

The actual worst company to ever exist
September 12, 2022

The actual worst company to ever exist. They allow two accounts apparently to be opened for the same equipment in the same address, and if your account is closed but you owe them money, as soon as you pay them the money, they reopen your account and charge you each month without your knowledge! Then they want you to pay them more money to close it, worst experience I've ever had with a company in my life.

Vivint is the WORST.
September 9, 2022

I am not impressed with my Vivint experience and I highly recommend against using them. There were always problems with my electronic dashboard, the equipment kept falling off my door and they wouldn't come back to fix it and when we lost our jobs during the pandemic they refused to let us out of the contract without paying an EXORBITANT fee. I am so extremely disappointed with this company. This is the first time I have ever left a review but the $1600 I had to pay just to cancel my service was disgusting.

Hidden Fees and Horrible Customer Service
September 8, 2022

This company has several hidden fees they don't tell you about and have been charging us services fees for something that was supposed to have been cancelled over a year ago. I have no access to my account anymore so I have to take their word for what the charges are vs seeing documentation. Customer service has given us the run around for 2 days while holding our account in limbo and still active.

Buyer's Beware!
September 8, 2022

This is the most unprofessional company I've seen in a long while. From the sales guy, speaking to neighbors about other neighbors business to the customer service reps lying about services to the technicians not showing up for services calls and not answering when trying to reach them. Lie after lie after lie. I would highly recommend you NOT do business with this company! They need to be out of business immediately!

Broke our ac in the middle of summer and refused to fix it
September 5, 2022

I can't properly describe how absolutely HORRID our experience with Vivint was. After spending hours installing everything (except the 2 things we actually wanted cuz they "weren't compatible") they left at like midnight only for our air conditioning to be broken. In the middle of summer. Two days later they finally sent someone to fix it but he DIDNT then left without telling us. After hours trying to contact someone they said the earliest they could send a technician to fix our aircon was in a month. Mind you it's 85-100 degrees outside. Finally they said they'd reimburse us for hiring someone to come fix our air con. We canceled Vivint - which room several hours on the phone - and a month later I'm still waiting for my refund. Also the customer service SUCKS. DO. NOT. RECOMMEND.

Stay away! Save your money
September 4, 2022

Money hungry company
The people don't respect the times of the day especially at night knowing people sleep they still manage to knock.
At any point the person you talk to is the " manager " and give you an amazing deal not telling you it's a contract of 85$ and goes up to who knows what. Costumer service is number to number never can talk to no one.
The install your equipment and make big big holes.
The "manager" tries to get at me side ways and puts his information on the access to the camera app on his phone. Didn't notice till a couple days after. It was a mess just save your money and install your own cameras.

Horrific. Don't respond, never call, constant up sell, advertisements all. Over. My. Phone. GROTESQUE. This is my family's safety at stake and they just want to advertise new deals on their stupid "home security" up sell app.

I mistakenly switched from Xfinity to visit after reading the alleged (paid piece) top five current home alarm systems.

Every single time I log into the app, I met with tons of advertisements, sales pictures, 20% off's, askinf me to upgrade to this and to buy that. It literally takes me minutes to bypass this and to find the buttons to actually look at my cameras! This is the only reason I would EVER log into my home security. I don't go there for midnight online shopping I login to look at cameras and turn on and off items, I try to navigate that which should be home security but instead constant sales pitches. If I I pay this or that, double than Xfinity, I save 20%. Further they have never called in 2.5 years when the alarm has gone off. It has gone off when we were away at 3am, and my safety back up was asleep - no one answered any call - the alarm went off for a period and then was simply canceled by vivint without any follow up. No email no text.

Rhis company literally does not give a ~ if you are being murdered. These capitalist frauds just want their MONEY and multilevel up sell by referring a friend. I'd prefer my friends don't get robbed or murdered as a result of tour negligence and violations of contract. I warn all people of this. They want to advertise their 20% offs and Labor Day specials when you're just trying to look at your cameras! It takes me a full min to navigate from their sales pages. Sales do not belong where my family's life and safety are at stake (see photos uploaded). Disgusting company. Locked in for 3 more years. DO NOT LOCK in w this crap company. Xfinity is basic but was 100% functional, they call you single every time.

I have no idea why I believed the obvious paid advertisements and fell for their nonsense equipment purchase of $560 (learned as it was being installed, an iPad thrown at me to sign 25 pages of lock in - utterly nuts, this was serious multi level marketing as two men in my home wouldn't shut up about how great the company was - red flag number 1) - and double the cost per month (as well as two bills bc equipment and service use 2 different banks - seriously you lazy idiots? A multi billion industry can't consolidate the bill? I HATE YOU. Hope the CEOS useless FAMILY also use vivint, and feel insecure at all times in their own home, but are at k w a 5 year contract. Unlikely.
