DO NOT do business with Vivint. I possess an audio recording—captured by Vivint themselves, as they record all customer calls—in which a staff member explicitly acknowledges that the salesperson informed me I could cancel service at any time after paying off the equipment. When I later attempted to cancel—because I only wanted to retain the equipment and never intended to continue the service—I was informed that I had been placed into a five-year contract. This was never disclosed to me and is something I would never have agreed to, particularly given that ongoing service was not my objective. A customer relations representative, Neil, initially attempted to resolve the issue but stated that his manager refused, insisting the company "follow the contract," despite the fact that the contract was obtained through clear misrepresentation. This experience reflects deceptive sales practices and a troubling disregard for informed consent. I strongly caution others to stay away from this company.

Sep 27, 2025

On August 21,2025, Vivint's Loyalty Department (Ref CA-*******, Service S-*******) emailed me confirming six (6) months of complimentary service and stating that my past-due balance of $114.73 would be fully covered—"no payment is required for this balance." Despite this written agreement, Vivint repeatedly called and harassed me for payment and on September 26,2025 withdrew $112.69 from my account without authorization. These calls continued even after I shared the confirmation email, causing significant stress and inconvenience to my family. I have clear documentation of the promise of free service and the unauthorized charge, yet Vivint has not provided a satisfactory explanation or immediate correction. Consumers deserve better. My experience shows a company willing to ignore its own written commitments and engage in aggressive billing tactics. I strongly advise anyone considering Vivint to proceed with extreme caution.

Jul 11, 2026

I was with vivint since 2020. They caught me outside my home on their door to door sales calls, but I was in the market for a system and heard them out ended up purchasing and things were fine for awhile. Eventually the cameras started glitching or losing connectivity constantly, then the DVR completely failed, and after I had paid off the equipment and the monthly monitoring services I still paid 60 dollars a month for also completely stopped working. So I called to cancel because I was paying for a non-working service and I was charged an additional two months. I call them again and say hey this was canceled they informed me that I couldn't cancel without paying 123 dollars for the monitoring services they acknowledge they were not providing. That phone call took just over 45 minutes to get to that point where they would even stop trying to sell me on it even after I told them multiple times I had already purchased an entirely different system already.

Sep 19, 2025

If I could give zero stars, I would. The customer service is the WORST. I was a longtime customer (10+ years) and hadn't needed any repairs in several years. But over time some of the sensors failed and when I called to trouble shoot and/or get new ones, the nightmare began. Charges for everything so for four failed sensors, it was going to cost a few hundred to replace. Never mind that I had been overpaying for an outdated system for years (not my biggest knock against them since Vivint certainly isn't alone in leaving existing customers paying more while they give tons of deals to attract new customers). Calls would take so long that I'd have to get off (most of us don't have two free hours to trouble shoot) and then when I would call back, I'd have to start all over again. Why bother to enter call notes if they don't get used. Most of the customer service reps were difficult to understand, lots of attempts to upsell me rather than just addressing my issues, and with no authority to make decisions -- the number of times I was put on long holds while they tried to get approval from higher ups was mind boggling. Seven hours between calls and chats over the span of three days. One person was supposed to call me back at an agreed upon time because after nearly two hours, she still hadn't gotten permission to waive fees and equipment costs and then called me several hours after the set time when I wasn't free to pick up the call. Gave them multiple opportunities to try to make things right before finally deciding I was so DONE, and then it took an hour on the phone to cancel. Never again!

Run from this Company!
December 8, 2022

We had been customers since 2013 and tried to cancel. It took me 4 hours and speaking to 10 people. They said I owed money I didn't on equipment. I had to speak to Citzen's Bank Vivint One group (4people) to find out I don't owe them money. I had to have them contact Vivint in order to cancel our Vivint contact. We did owe money since we were only have way through that contract. I paid $810.46 so that I never have to do business with them again. Terrible customer service! Overpriced! Low quality equipment!

Horrible.
December 6, 2022

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. They rope people into insane contracts, get them to buy a ton of expensive equipment, finance that equipment, and then the equipment never works. After a year of constantly coming out to "fix" the equipment for free, they start to charge you for service visits.

I got the system out of fear. I was being stalked and I wanted to feel safe. I signed everywhere they told me to and bought everything they told me too because I was terrified and I trusted them.

I moved and wanted to cancel services, and our buyer did not want them (shocker) so for the last year and a half and now for 4 more months I have and will continue to pay for services I can't and wont use. They gave me no options other than paying large sums of money to pay off all the equipment that doesn't works and 50% of the remaining months in my contract.

Vivant is a heartless scam. Stay away.

Over priced marginal hardware questionable business tactics
December 3, 2022

I'm paying for monitoring 2 months after I moved. Even though they turned monitoring off.

Trick is the requirement in fine print to give 30 days notice. I called and gave notice in November they did not mention this at the time. Got billed 12/1 called to find out why and then they informed me of the notice which i then provided so they get to charge me 2 months. Almost worth it to be done with them.

Hardware is mediocre, cameras go off/on online inexplicably sometimes requiring action on my part to reboot camera or server or control panel.
Had to reset the doorbell cam twice this required a torx driver that i happened to have, they don't provide so i guess they otherwise would send a tool or tech at your cost.

Crooks!
December 2, 2022

My contract was up in June. I emailed them on 7 Jul 22 to cancel. I complied with with their request for reasons again on 7 Jul 22. They continued to bill me and only acknowledged my request on 30 Sep 22 giving them their 30 day cancellation process plus 60 more days and who knows how many more had I not cancelled my debit card. You'll notice on the last page the date of acknowledgement. I had a feeling when I signed that this could be a bad idea, but I was shown how many people had Vivint in the neighborhood. However, their pressure techniques were Gestapo. Before I had signed, a man had gone into my house and installed everything. A 5-year contract. What was I thinking?
My scanned pages cannot be included. File format is not accepted. However, the date of acknowledgement is 30 Sep 22.

ZERO STARS
November 30, 2022

If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I had this service for about 2 years. While we had the service it was "okay" nothing I would boast about. Did what we needed I guess. Had a couple problems with the glass break alarm going off for no real reason (loud door slam, dropping a cup in the kitchen). And the outdoor camera would go in and out and miss movement happening in our back yard. There were multiple time we thought about canceling and it was just such a hassle with customer service so we never did. Then we moved and boy was that the worst experience ever! They were willing to transfer our equipment, but I was going to cost a stupid amount of money. There was a point in our move that we tried to transfer services but the technician never showed and rescheduling was just ridiculous. Anyhow so after the failed attempt to transfer we just wanted to cancel. Sounds fine and dandy right?! WRONG! WORST PROCESS EVER. I called and they told me that I needed to pay out the remaining balance. Cool. Cost me thousands. Cool. We paid the money and thought that was that, Vivint was out of our lives for good. WRONG AGAIN! 6 months later we get a call from a collections company saying we owe them over $600 for inadequately canceling our account. So I jumped through all 15 hoops Vivint made me jump through, being transferred to person after person, I guess in their $#*!ty attempt to make me give up, I didn't, and after all that, they tell me that I did not cancel my account with written notice and that they can't just take verbal cancellation. So they can verbally take all your money no problem but when you want to cancel their service my word isn't good enough.

This company is absolutely horrible and their customer service isn't much better. All in all FIND ANOTHER SECURITY COMPANY, THIS ONE ISN'T THE ONE!

Dishonest company, horrible customer service
November 25, 2022

I really regret choosing Vivint. It has been such a hassle trying to get them to bill what they said they would. I was overcharged for the equipment, and I had to call to get that fixed. Then I was overcharged for the monthly monitoring fee. I called, and they issued a credit and said they had fixed the billing. I got the credit on the next bill, but then the following month I was overcharged again. I went through this same experience two more times, and every time they say that the billing is fixed, but on my most recent bill I was overcharged again. I have had to call them about my bill about every two months. Last time I called, I was on hold for an hour and a half, and after waiting so long they told me I would have to call back the next day. I'm very tired of wasting so much of my time just trying to get them to charge me the amount I agreed to, but it looks like I'll be calling again.

Vivint advertisements blocking the phone app
November 17, 2022

When leaving my house I use the phone app to set the alarm. Several times I have been unable to set the alarm and had to leave the house unprotected. I have complained to Vivint about this and they say there is nothing they can do. Right now the advertisement has been covering the screen for over an hour so I cannot set the security alarm. Also, I have disarmed the system using the phone app. But when I go inside the house the system is still armed. The phone app says it is disarmed but the panel is armed. This is an expensive security system that doesn't work. I have talked with Vivint and they can't seem to fix these problems. I call these problems serious when I can't arm the system when I leave the house.

Stay away from Vivint!
November 16, 2022

Please do not waste your hard earned dollars and time on this company! They are HORRIBLE! Customer service sucks, if you have a problem, they make you waste hours of your time to go through troubleshooting yourself and wont send out a technician unless you pay. The cameras go offline for no reason constantly. There is no way out of your contract unless you pay off the OVERPRICED equipment. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS! These people will take advantage of you! I would have saved thousands of dollars if I had just gotten a ring camera.

HORRIBLE COMPANY
November 14, 2022

Let's start of by saying if I could give Vivint -500 stars I would.

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. I have time because I am currently on hold with their customer service. AGAIN! It's been an hour. The last call after either being hung up on or being on hold was 2 hrs. Every time I call I am told that I am next in que for a supervisor and either hung up on or no on comes back to the phone. (RED FLAG)

Is this the way to treat a Veteran?

I signed up for Vivint security in May 2015. They were ahead of the curve with great security cameras and automation. I signed up for a 5 year contract. Unfortunately I had to leave Clarksville,TN for a job opportunity in San Antonio, TX. I then planned to relocate to New Braunfels, TX. I called Vivint and a tech came out to uninstall my equipment. I was told at that time that if I didn't have the equipment installed at my new location I would still be responsible for the payment of the equipment even though I wouldn't have monitoring. The tech told me that he would have that added to my account notes and I understood. (RED FLAG)

I arrived in Texas July 2018, and was told by property management that I wasn't able to
Have Vivint install the alarm at my new leased home because they had a lot of problems with the company. (RED FLAG)

I remember the conversation I had with the tech and that I had to let the time of my contract run out even if I don't have monitoring. No problem, just run out the contract. (RED FLAG)

Now this the meat and potatoes!

This is Nov 2022, I have relocated to Georgia over 4 years later, and I am still being charged $64.97 a month. I called and asked why am I still paying this? I was told by several SUPERVISORS in different departments that I should have notified the company when I was told I couldn't install the equipment. The tech in Tennessee never put anything in the notes. No option of a refund or anything. I was even told that I would be contacted by a SUPERVISOR on a Saturday. I found out today before I was put on hold AGAIN that no one works in Customer service on weekends. WHY LIE!? There's no remorse, no understanding. NOTHING! Not even an option to turn in the equipment, or even address the situation properly. I have been told multiple times that this is a very unique situation, and shuffled to the next person that does nothing to help at all. Not even an option to refund money that was paid after my 5 year contract. I was also told that my account would be closed. That tells me that Vivint is basically gonna take my money and get rid of proof that I even existed. (RED FLAG)

Here's the math:

July 2018 - Nov 2022
$64.97 a month =
$3,378.44

What's basic alarm costs that?

I might as well been an investor in Vivint because there's no way a company that's established would treat people this way. This is the reason why a lot of people go to RING and other similar companies because of this type of business model.

I have written this review and guess what?

IM STILL ON DAMN HOLD!

Wasted my Hard Earned Money
November 7, 2022

Like other reviewers have expressed. Vivint system is carp. Wasted my money. The panel is always going offline and I have to either reset the panel or reset the cameras. The door sensors are always falling off and when one finally fell and broke, almost 35 days after installation, I was told I would have to pay for the replacement. High price BS and cheap equipment is what Vivnt is.

Vivints Broken Promises after contract renewal
October 27, 2022

Be careful when renewing a contract with vivint and be sure to make your own recording of the call. I called on September 4th/2022 to cancel my services from vivint and they put me through to the loyalty department. They through everything at me to lock me into a contract ( free equipment and cameras with a playback feature, free 2 months after renewal). Stuff that sounded to good to be true. As soon as I verbally agreed to a contract renewal they weee quick to come out and install the new equipment. After the equipment was installed I called and asked about the playback feature on the cameras and they told me there was a $250 charge for that feature ( wasn't told that prior to renewal) and they bounced the first months payment with NSF fees ( after they said we would have 2 months free). After numerous calls from customer service reps they said they listens to my call at renewal time and none of those promises were made and cannot provide me with those phone recordings. They are piers and scammers.

Horrible! Don't call! Rude and Unprofessional!
October 25, 2022

I can't even give this one star. I had an appointment scheduled for a Friday from 8am to 12pm. No one showed, no one called, customer service was not helpful. Stupidly, we decided reschedule on another day at 4pm. The technician did not want to come at 4pm and texted and called several times to reschedule any day for 9am. After taking a day off of work, there was no way I was going to reschedule for a 9am appointment. I had to leave work early to get to my 4pm appointment. He was late and then told me that he didn't understand what we were wanting. Then, he said that he couldn't do it because my husband wasn't home. I told him I was going to call call customer service to get my name on the account. He told me "no" and then said that he doesn't get paid hourly and it was a one hour drive for him. He wasn't going to wait, told me to "figure it out," and started walking toward the door. I said, "Are you leaving?" He said "yep." I said, "you are really leaving?" He then slammed the front door and left. I called customer service steaming mad and got nothing except they would reschedule again. She gave me her "direct line" and conveniently I can't get in touch with her. I have never been treated this way and will never recommend this company, that is supposed to monitor and keep my family secure, to anyone!

Horrible service
October 14, 2022

I own a rental home in which my renters installed a Vivint security system. The renters moved out, and Vivint broke a window in my rental home when they were removing their equipment. Vivint agreed to pay a $500 settlement for the damage that they did to my house. I contacted Vivint, and they refused to deal directly with me. Vivint will only deal with the renters on this claim since the renters have the account with them. The renters did not suffer a loss. It is unacceptable that Vivant will not deal directly with me. Vivint refuses to pay me the settlement for the damage that Vivant did to the house that I own. I regret that I allowed these renters to install a Vivint system.

CROOKS! DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY!
October 11, 2022

I purchased for thousands in security equipment and moved out of state with it and I just learned that they have been lying to me for the past 4 MONTHS!
I was always "ESCALATED" (do not let them, because they never reach back- I was "escalated" 7 times and never heard back) and they even scheduled an appointment that was magically cancelled without notice and I had to push back my trip home to go see my dying father FOR NO REASON!
And today, they had the audacity to suggest I SELL MY EQUIPMENT ON EBAY because there is nothing they can do!
I also had an overdue balance that they made me pay fully promising that I would get an appointment quick after, but again I was LIED to. They already knew there was nothing FOR THE NEXT YEAR!

DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY.
What else are they lying about? I don't mess around with my security, neither should you.
