DO NOT do business with Vivint. I possess an audio recording—captured by Vivint themselves, as they record all customer calls—in which a staff member explicitly acknowledges that the salesperson informed me I could cancel service at any time after paying off the equipment.
When I later attempted to cancel—because I only wanted to retain the equipment and never intended to continue the service—I was informed that I had been placed into a five-year contract. This was never disclosed to me and is something I would never have agreed to, particularly given that ongoing service was not my objective.
A customer relations representative, Neil, initially attempted to resolve the issue but stated that his manager refused, insisting the company "follow the contract," despite the fact that the contract was obtained through clear misrepresentation.
This experience reflects deceptive sales practices and a troubling disregard for informed consent. I strongly caution others to stay away from this company.
On August 21,2025, Vivint's Loyalty Department (Ref CA-*******, Service S-*******) emailed me confirming six (6) months of complimentary service and stating that my past-due balance of $114.73 would be fully covered—"no payment is required for this balance." Despite this written agreement, Vivint repeatedly called and harassed me for payment and on September 26,2025 withdrew $112.69 from my account without authorization. These calls continued even after I shared the confirmation email, causing significant stress and inconvenience to my family. I have clear documentation of the promise of free service and the unauthorized charge, yet Vivint has not provided a satisfactory explanation or immediate correction. Consumers deserve better. My experience shows a company willing to ignore its own written commitments and engage in aggressive billing tactics. I strongly advise anyone considering Vivint to proceed with extreme caution.
I was with vivint since 2020. They caught me outside my home on their door to door sales calls, but I was in the market for a system and heard them out ended up purchasing and things were fine for awhile. Eventually the cameras started glitching or losing connectivity constantly, then the DVR completely failed, and after I had paid off the equipment and the monthly monitoring services I still paid 60 dollars a month for also completely stopped working. So I called to cancel because I was paying for a non-working service and I was charged an additional two months. I call them again and say hey this was canceled they informed me that I couldn't cancel without paying 123 dollars for the monitoring services they acknowledge they were not providing. That phone call took just over 45 minutes to get to that point where they would even stop trying to sell me on it even after I told them multiple times I had already purchased an entirely different system already.
If I could give zero stars, I would. The customer service is the WORST. I was a longtime customer (10+ years) and hadn't needed any repairs in several years. But over time some of the sensors failed and when I called to trouble shoot and/or get new ones, the nightmare began. Charges for everything so for four failed sensors, it was going to cost a few hundred to replace. Never mind that I had been overpaying for an outdated system for years (not my biggest knock against them since Vivint certainly isn't alone in leaving existing customers paying more while they give tons of deals to attract new customers). Calls would take so long that I'd have to get off (most of us don't have two free hours to trouble shoot) and then when I would call back, I'd have to start all over again. Why bother to enter call notes if they don't get used. Most of the customer service reps were difficult to understand, lots of attempts to upsell me rather than just addressing my issues, and with no authority to make decisions -- the number of times I was put on long holds while they tried to get approval from higher ups was mind boggling. Seven hours between calls and chats over the span of three days. One person was supposed to call me back at an agreed upon time because after nearly two hours, she still hadn't gotten permission to waive fees and equipment costs and then called me several hours after the set time when I wasn't free to pick up the call. Gave them multiple opportunities to try to make things right before finally deciding I was so DONE, and then it took an hour on the phone to cancel. Never again!
Young cocky dude comes the our door asking strange questions that set-off alarms for me. He wouldn't stop. I ultimately had to shut the door on him. Several other neighbors report the same thing, and now many of us have had our current doorbell cameras stolen.
This company is absolutely horrible. After being a customer with these people for almost five years, I reached my breaking point. The service hardly ever works, the panel constantly goes offline, the cameras stay offline, and they charge exhorbitant rates for equipment. Their unhelpfulness is resolving problems is what triggered me to drop them. They expect customers to resolve their own problems, having me climb on ladders, and go in awkward places to see why some equipment they installed doesn't work. They are unhelpful and have extremely rude customer service. Their hold time is ridiculous and they have customers talk to multiple people, non of which help resolve the issue. I haven't had working service for two months, they refused to help, and now they are trying to charge me $149 to cancel a service that doesn't work. I have to block at least 2 hours out of my day just to talk to them. I beg people not to go with this provider. They have unethical business practices and unreliable service. If you are trying to protect your family, this company will not do that for you.
Talked to a SALESMAN for an hour about everything we needed, top to bottom. I was very thorough and technical with my words. I repeated things to make sure the understood. The SALESMAN was smart and kept up. STRAIGHT UP HE LIED AND LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING. I ended the conversation asking, "So there will be no surprises or change in price right?" He said, "Yes that's right", I said "You sure?", "Yup! Now I'm going home to be with my two dogs blah blah blah"...When the TECHNICIAN got to my house everything changed and was surprising me all over the place. PRICES TRIPLED, CAMERA SYSTEMS NOT COMPATIBLE, ETC. ETC.
I could write so much but I'm done wasting time. Bottom line, they got lucky, I cancelled all other appointments with security companies for that week, I wanted to save time and money, AND, I was so confident they were the best service based on my conversation with the salesman. I was forced into the contract because I had to submit proof of security services for my house to the insurance company by the next day. I was forced into setting up the vivint service or lose my insurance. It was too late to set up any other appointments. So, I got the base package, I'll pay off the equipment, then leave. The technicians were real with me at least. They were okay. But I will not stay with a company that has such dishonest people working for them and such crap equipment.
EDIT: Since I can't reply to the Vivint reply, I'll add it here. I received multiple emails from your company since installation to review the various experiences, none of the links work. I emailed you that they didn't work. I have not received a reply. I'm really tired of all the extra work I've put in at this point...but I am somewhat considerate this salesman might be solely messing with your company so I want to help. If I provide the information to you so you can give me proof he was fired, I'll change my review. If not I will assume the salesman's tactics are that of the company. Either he is working rogue or he is following orders. You tell us...
UPDATE: Still the worst company on the planet
UPDATE: Not more than a few months in...the panel touchscreen stopped working. We entered the house with the alarm on and couldn't turn it off. Finally fixed it today..."software bug"...
ALSO, during the initial set up they hooked up our existing motion sensor to the system. They said it was totally fine. Not, the motion sensor started going off all the time with the slightest movement so we tried to turn it off. Turning it off didn't work. We had to delete the sensor from the system altogether. So now when we go out of town it can't be easily set back up again. We have to call the company to reactivate the sensor...OR, buy the Vivint motion sensor.
This crap the salesman gave me about Vivint being the "APPLE" of security systems is a load of crap. Apple is high quality equipment. Vivint is all cheap garbage with no versatility outside of it's own company.
3-13-2023: Still wasting more time with the company. I kept telling them to check the phone call I had with the salesman so they didn't have to trust my word for everything. They kept asking me to explain. I told them enough and I wasn't wasting MORRRRRE of my time. Finally got a response. Very slow response times for every email btw. Ridiculously slow. And here's why that matters. Apparently they only keep phone calls with the company for 30 days. 30 DAYS. They can only keep a 1 megabyte file for 30 days. A SECURITY COMPANY. So now they are unable to listen to the phone call because it's taken so damn long for them to check it out. I tried filling out all their review forms from the beginning but none of them worked, I emailed them immediately they didn't work, time time time time past, now we are at the point of no return thanks to them. That sleazy salesman can't be held accountable. Not that I'm fully blaming the salesman. At this point, I'm almost sure it's the company instituting the sleazy sales tactics and he is just being a good soldier. REMEMBER EVERYONE! This...is...a...SECURITY COMPANY. More wasted time updating but if you are reading this I hope it save you. I care about people. Unlike this company.
UPDATE 3-15-2024: CANCELLED! The system would go off for no reason. The panel would glitch and lock up so you couldn't turn it off. You'd be trying to talk to an agent through the alarm panel that is literally going off in your ears. This morning it went off for no reason couldn't be shut off, had to talk to someone on my cellphone where they told me to rip it off the wall and remove the battery. That is how easy it is to shut the system off. They gave an offer then took the offer back. This company is a scam. The equipment is bad. Get any other company. A year ago they offered a 50% discount on the bad equipment or to cancel the system. I waited to respond, then got busy, we didn't use the system for a year, started to use it for a month and had non-stop problems. After this morning I call them and say I'm done I want to cancel. They say the offer they gave previously is off the table. I told them they didn't give me a time limit on the offer. He talks to his other co-workers and says they all agree it can be assumed the offer given was only valid for a couple days or a couple weeks and that's why they closed the offer on their end. I was never told by anyone there was a limit on the offer. They admitted that on the phone but still said they couldn't offer it again. They only way to cancel my service was to pay off the equipment in full. $3000 dollars later I cancelled it. This whole process took 2 hours.
This company will scam you and rip you off. The equipment is extremely poor quality and waaaay too expensive. I have spent way too much time dealing with them and now writing this review. People need to know, don't ever get this service, I hope at least I saved one person the hell I've gone through with them...
Over the past two years we have experienced FOUR false fire alarms. The first was when we were five hours from home and the fire department ended up inside our house. I didn't know that when the alarm goes off, it unlocks the front door! Vivint would take no responsibility. Instead I was told it was because the sensor was too close to a heating vent. Vivint installed it there! So a tech moved it six feet away. The next alarm, false again, was downstairs. The final outcome: replace the faulty unit. Getting Vivint to respond on anything is a major challenge. It wasn't until I started telling my story on social media that I got a call from a higher-up. He was brilliant on reading his talking points but a zero on fixing the problem. Spoke to him again after the latest falsey: I kept asking, "So, is it acceptable for your system to go off with false fire alarms every three or so months?" Never got an answer. I called the tech who put in the system and has done service calls (never let anyone leave without getting their name and phone number!). He wasn't available as he was just returning from a company-paid trip to Hawaii. He tells me I have to call corporate to get on the calendar and he never gets back to me! I feel hamstrung because I have money still outstanding to pay off this debacle. After $#*!ing at the corporate guy and him doing nothing but telling me to wait (after I rebooted my system), he finishes with "Is there anything else I can do for you today?" I laughed out loud. "You really haven't done anything for me today," I replied. Then when the tech asked me to set an appointment, he asked if I knew any potential customers! I laughed again. I could not recommend this company to anyone. While I may have vented, I am still left with a faulty security system and a company that provides terrible customer service.
I had this alarm company since 2014 when we first moved. We started having issues with the equipment last year 2023. The system kept sending alerts and I called them in November. We spent a whole hour on the phone about how to reset the system and change the battery. So we decided being we started using the ring cameras we don't need vivint anymore. I called at lunch at this point they want to tell me another story how our equipment is old and it needs to be replaced. And they will give us a big discount and free equipment. They didn't say that yesterday. So I said I wanted to cancel but she kept trying to sell me packages. Finally I spoke to a manager that said I will get an email for cancellation and I have to send the email back with the password. So we did just that. Then we get an email about a month later saying the account cancellation was unsuccessful. That doesn't make sense. At this point I removed all credit card information from the account that was still open and accumulating charges. I called they again. Same story are you sure you want to cancel blah blah. All over again. Never received email about cancellation. January 25th we called again to ask why is it still open. Then they want to say because we have a balance. We canceled in November anything after that I'm not paying. Spoke to manager and she said they would take off anything after November so we only owe $90. So I give them to payment information to authorize that only. Received the email of the payment but never the cancellation. Fast forward 3/7/24 and I noticed my account balance is lower than it should be because I need to get my car fixed. I have four charges of $79.56 in my bank account. So I called them. And once again "I'm so sorry" and I was put on an eternal hold. Spoke to a manager and she said we don't see that your account is cancelled but we will cancel everything now and delete the balance for you. You will get your funds in about 5-7days. Still no cancellation email or money.
As the title of my review says, I paid them $57 per month for their service and I have had Vivint for the past 5 years. During the past 5 years I have never been able to get anyone on the phone when there was an emergency...seriously, and no exaggeration here! I have had my alarm go off many, many times over the past 5 years always because of equipment malfunction, which is a whole other issue. One continual issue is there is always a delay between the app and whatever the app communicates with. I disarm my house, and the app says it's disarmed, but as soon as I open the door the alarm goes off. Constant issues...and I'm so sick of having to talk to the repair department, which also takes forever to get on the line, who haven't been able to fix the issue for 5 years. However, that is not why I just cancelled.
I cancelled because my alarm went off the other night while I was at a work seminar. As usual, I had received a text, an email and a vmail from Vivint saying call us! Your alarm is going off. So as soon as we had a break and I saw that there was an issue, and I called. And as ALWAYS, I received the same message..."we are experiencing higher than normal call volume, so just wait." And once again I am not exaggerating when I say... you ALWAYS get this message. This is why I cancelled. They are not doing me a favor, I am paying them monthly for their service which they are incapable of supplying, or are not interested in supplying.
So, I had to return to my seminar, but next break I called Vivint again and got the usual message of we're way to busy to provide you with the service you are paying for, and after being on hold about 12 minutes, I had to return to my seminar again. So once the seminar was over I called Vivint for the 3rd time...it's now about an hour after the first call...and got the same message about how they could care less about my business and providing me with the service I am paying for. I was on hold for about 20 minutes this time, and once again their message came on thanking me for waiting but they are experiencing higher than normal call volume, which is what they experience 24/7, but then their system hung up on me. So after 3 phone calls I still couldn't get anyone on the line.
I called them later and after being on hold for about 20 minutes again...and this is the 4th phone call now... I got someone on the line who told me that my alarm has timed out and is no longer ringing, so not to worry. I said yes, I know, I'm standing in my house, please cancel my account. That was last Thursday, and I'm typing this on the following Thursday.
After days of trying to cancel, and the process literally took me 6 days to cancel...and a total scam like everyone else has mentioned, just yesterday I finally got my service cancelled...or will be cancelled in 30 days. It takes them 30 days to cancel an account, which means I have to pay these scammers for another month of their lousy service. Seriously, I have to pay them another month. But, they justified it by saying yes, I have to pay them another month, but they will prorate the amount. So if your payment is deducted on the 15th of each month like mine, then they will credit me back 15 days, so I still have to pay them for another 1/2 month so they can rip me off even further.
Also, like I see others have mentioned, if you get Vivint, as soon as you can call and cancel...if you can get someone on the line. Seriously, they will offer to reduce your monthly payment $20 per month to try and keep you, and offer you a credit where you can buy more security equipment. They told me that they have offered people up to $600 in equipment credit to stay with Vivint. So all Vivint customers should call and cancel to get your monthly charged reduced and free equipment! However, you still won't get the service from them that you pay for.
Door to door scam. Go through there tablets real fast and don't tell you that 2 cameras and a cheep touchpad screen will cost you $3500. On top of that, you cant cancel there monitoring system until that is paid off. This company ruins lives and they have the worst customer service. Stay away please.
If I could give it no starts I would. I have 4 cameras and only 2 of them work properly. They charge me a monitor fee, but when i called about my cameras not working i was told my monitor had been suspended due to none payment but they had just took over $240 out my account without my permission or notified my about them taking the money out my account. Long story short say yourself time and money by not dealing with this company at all! Now I see why this company has been sued!
I swapped from Brink to Vivint. Prior to Brinks I had ADT, I had never went with another company. I regret not going back o ADT, this by far is the worse service I have ever had. Their equipment is horrible and the majority of their installation techs o not know what they are doing.
I have a fairly new home, the sales person made this company and their service appar amazing and better than the rest (let's just say she is her job), but over he last 6 months I have regretted every minute of having his service. The cameras never work when needed. I am going to reinstall my ring camera, because each and every time I attempt to talk to a visitor through their doorbell it never works and disconnects when trying to talk. Their thermostats, huge joke! They rarely ever work as design and the one upstairs falls off the wall at least once a week and I have to take the batteries out to get it to start back working.
I won't continue to elaborate but instead reiterate NOT TO PURCHASE THIS SYSTEM O THEIR EQUIPMENT!
The phone support can't/won't/doesnt know how to help and they want to charge you $99 to send a tech out. I am going to the media as this system hasn't worked properly for the time I've had it. DO NOT BUY THIS SYSTEM
I had a door to door salesmen tell me that VIVINT wanted use my house as a marketing strategy due to it being a highly trafficked area. He said that they will cover the cost of all the products as well as the installation as long as I agreed to put their sign up in my yard & recommend their product. I decided on 3 outdoor cameras, 2 door sensors, 5 light bulbs & switches, carbon monoxide detector, motion sensor & glass break sensor. He tells me I'll have two charges a month. One was for about $40 & the other $60. I end up not liking the service & want to cancel due to products breaking, cameras lagging & sensors being not sensitive enough as well as many other issues. I am told that I am contracted in until 2028 & if I wanted to cancel I would have to pay the remaining balance of the equipment which is $3,000. I asked for the contract to be sent to me with the cost of product. After reading it turns out nothing was free. I paid $200 for the installation. I incurred $3,800 in product which I signed a 60 month contract on. I do not recall any mention that I was signing on for 5 years otherwise I would've never signed. However I obviously did not pay close attention to the contract at all as everything I thought was the opposite. Basically I signed up for a loan of $3,800 in equipment from them which is not even efficient, helpful or securing. Paid for an installation I was told was free & am now stuck with them for another 4 years after not enjoying the first. The lights don't work & I can't turn some off & others won't come on. They sent me a new light switch to resolve that which I will have to install on my own. If I want someone to come out to fix any broken product I have to pay them $100. I don't even bother arming my house on away because the sensors are so sensitive it send the distress call if something is dropped on the floor. However animals & people can creep through my yard without the cameras even detecting them despite the sensitivity being set high. The cameras installed do not even have coverage on my side yards which makes the whole thing feel pointless as I do not have a fenced in yard & with the woodsy area behind my house people constantly walk through my yard to get to the street. Everything this company sells you on is a lie. If they have anyone try to sell you on it please decline unless you want to sign your death sentence. Well if it isn't obvious enough their sign is no longer in my yard & I would NOT recommend their product!
The company kept calling me after I told them I was gona go with my old provider being I paid for equipment in full. They texted several times trying to see why I didn't want them. Today Feb 20th a salesman claiming he's with this company knocks at my door trying to get me to switch. He wouldn't take no for an answer and I found it to be very creepy. He also asked if I had a countertop or table he could use to write things out so I could better understand. Why are you trying to enter my home? They are in competition with ADT and it's crazy.
My elderly aunt and uncle in their 80's paid on the equipment for 2 years then moved into a nursing home. Vivint said they had to pay off $1400+ for equipment before canceling the service. They did this. Once the service was canceled, they have continued to be charged for the past 5 months. Terrible company that took advantage of elderly on so many levels: first telling them they needed to finance to build up their credit rating (at 85 and 86 years old) to refusing to stop billing them when services have been canceled.
I decided to switch to another security company. It was borderline harassment getting it cancelled. Despite telling the first person I spoke with multiple times I just wanted to cancel, he wouldn't stop. I had to speak to two different people and took about 30 minutes. After the high pressure to keep Vivint, there is no way I would consider keeping or using them again. On top of all this I am getting a whole new system from a highly rated company for half of what they quoted me for one outdoor camera.
I signed up for this during the pandemic, while trying to make dinner. I was made promises, such as my home would be a "smart home" and I would be offered upgrades. The camera is a JOKE, yet I feel like I've been paying for the equipment for WAY too long. The apps, website, and any way to contact the company are a waste of time. When I really need to see who is at my door, the app is " not available. " I feel like I'm being ripped off daily and don't even get a response from the company. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! You will pay for years on a worthless service.
After 3 years of using Vivint, my contract ended. I called to ensure that I would not be anrolled in anymore programs with them. When doing so, the agent told me that they had to enroll you in a month to month plan even if your contract is over. Of course that was a lie. He also told me the app would work even without a subscription with them. Another lie. He of course refused to give me an email so that I could send in a written notice that I didn't want to enroll. He said nobody would read it.
Thankfully, with reddits help, I had their email. I sent an email to *******@vivint.com and within a few days was slammed called trying to upsell me this monthly fee.
I called back to verify that my service was cancelled. This agent calmly stated they had received my email and already were canceling once my contract was up. I also verified with her that the app would still work, she said no.
Think about this, after 3 years and a few thousand dollars later they still charge you to use the app. You're equipment works not the free app. I was angry. All that money and time to not have such a vital function work. Other vendors apps work for free forever once you buy the equipment.
Vivint is a scummy company that lies and steals from you any chance they get.
I had them install and for 5 months the system kept dropping off the cellular and panel did not work. I went through hell and they want me to pay for the monthly fees and are trying to hold me responsible to pay for the entire 3 year contract when their system does not work. The technician didn't show up 3 times when they scheduled to come to my house. I took time off from work and they didn't show. I called them and they continue giving me the runaround. Save your money and go with ADT or another reliable company. If you google this company you will see that they use search engine tactics to hide their lawsuits and bad BBB reviews. This has officially been he worst company I have EVER dealt with.
I was with this company for several years when I call to cancel the services they charged for one more month. The cancellation take one month even if you are not using the services.
Where do I start? First off I WAY overpaid for a system that provided inconsistant coverage and playback ability of alarm videos. That was my fault for not doing more comparative shopping. I was getting better coverage with my simple ring cameras. The big kicker is when I sold my house and tried several times to transfer my account to the new home owners Vivint instead created a new account for them and I still had to pay of the $1400 balance of the three year contract. So Vivint was able to double dip on the same system! Their customer service farms you out to foreign call centers to very poor English speakers and they pass you around from one department to another until you get dropped or tired of waiting on them. I wasted $3k in equipment and $3k in service contract so trust me when I say go any other way but don't go vivint!
Update: After posting here and on several other sites Vivint sent my case for review and they refunded my $1400 payment. Squeaky wheels get the grease, I guess. At least they did the right thing in the end.
