On the face of it, Vimeo looked a good alternative to You tube and I used it for a few years, buying a few documentaries and enjoying the range of choice and flexibility. I then bought several films from Ryan Dawson whom I've followed on Youtube for years as a highly competent geopolitical analyst, one of which was around 5 hrs long. I intended to watch them in segments and enjoy them over a few months. However Ryan had all his content deleted without warning and so my paid for films disappeared, I wrote to Vimeo who basically said "tough" and no refund - I wrote a longer letter asking why they should take this approach with someone like Ryan who has never advocated hate speech and is the most anti-war person you can find. No reply. I don't like being treated this way and I don't like Ryan being treated this way - totally unprofessional and whatever agenda they have they can keep it.

Freedom of speech
November 21, 2018

This site seems to be persuaded by a external force to delete any account it is asked to. Was watching news about middle eastern affairs and how countries are dominating others with real journalism and now this account can not be found.

This company has a prove track record of denying "Free Thought" and "Dissenting Opinions" on its platform. It does not matter if the end user is a free or even a premium member.

When content is found that is considered objectionable, but outside stated company policies, the administrators will "milk" it for a period of time if "profitable" and then before the payout date to the end user, the company will lock down and delete the account/content.

In the unfortunate and ill-advised event that a user is of premium status, not only will no legitimate contact be provided by the administrators when videos or user accounts are taken down, but they will then funnel whatever funds were accrued by the end user into an unrelated Vimeo personal or business account (I don't work there, but its not going to the rightful owner(s)). This is clearly theft by any definition of the word...

DO NOT support this company. Their actions are comparable to the Nazi's in which Jewish finances were confiscated because the target was critical of the political party.

Like others I was deleted the last day of the month so that they could take one Month of profits plus 30 days of the next month. They stole over $5,000. The reason was claiming that I violated a guideline. I didn't. The next reason was because my reporting on Israel's attack on Gaza was done with "a mean spirited vibe". They actually accused me of antisemitism! My co-host is Jewish and I maintain an anti-war and anti-racist channel. I have been with vimeo over 6 years with over 590 videos and been reporting the same way the entire time. When they felt like there was a large payday they just kicked me off the platform and took all my money. I wasn't even told why I had to write to them constant and get my fans to do the same just to get a weak justification.

This has got to be the worst website since video was able to be digitized. What a moronic platform, copied entirely from youtube, even the next video button is enabled on every page refresh to play every darn video in the list they provide, not your list remember, their opinionated list. People wise up to these american companies popping up daily and controlling the entire video platforms in the entire world as something very fishy going on in the US over the entire Internet world-wide. Forget any help from the company as they will NOT respond to your emails. Horrible business people, but snowflakes are all like this. They have no sense, no morals and do not care about anyone, other than themselves.

Vimeo started off by being a good alternative to other sites like Facebook. It was a free or low cost service. Easy to use etc. But like all these sites they haven't quite figured out the copyright thing. All my websites which rely on Vimeo now as the host server went dark for two weeks when three old videos had copyright issues. It's a three strike policy, but curious as we saw other videos that were clearly copyright infringement and NOT taken down. Fine we all make mistakes and we were happy to comply - but instantly they took ALL my videos down. There was no warning, no way to fix the problem. All 500 of my videos went off line. Very hard handed. So all I can say if you are a video professional and you have copyright material anywhere on your site, even if you appeal you may be facing a shutting down of your websites and your business while they process the infraction. For this reason I would recommend everyone stay away to start hosting your own sites again and forget Vimeo, Google, Facebook and Youtube. Everything is wonderful and free with these companies until they want to change or enforce the rules. We are at their mercy... but no more.

I had a pro account for years. Anything you uploaded will be locked out after you cancel membership, which is horrendous, as they try to keep you for life. But if you'd just stayed on a free account, you'd still have access to all your videos. Makes no sense. Just plain evil. To hell with Vimeo, plus, youtube quality and quickness is 100x better. They're toast.

We are a commercial organisation utilising Vimeo for the sharing of short training videos for our own platform. We have to report video play stats to the board to demonstrate customer engagement in video content. We've queried clearly illogical and incorrect stats with Vimeo at various points. Their customer services is incredibly useless, and we've been told by a range of people that "all looks fine", "nothing stands out", but we have been recently told that ALL the video stats are incorrect. That's right - after querying for 8 months on a few occasions and pushing for an answer to mathematically impossible stats, Vimeo has turned around and said "we know of an issue, they are all incorrect". We have not been advised at any point of an issue, and have in turn been categorically told there is no issue. Most users rely on accurate stats to understand video success, especially business users - I would highly recommend you chose another provider. We will be ending our subscription and migrating to a new provider as soon as soon as we can.

Vimeo are Scammers! When the deadline arrives in which Vimeo on demand must pay you a percentage of the sales for your work, they will DELETE your account with any excuse.

And then they keep all the money from your sales, from your audiovisual work.

Thieves!

Poor!
May 3, 2018

Vimeo tells me that I have gone over my quota for the free account! So fine I will delete some of my videos. Vimeo tells me I cannot bulk delete my videos without being a pro or plus member. Are you s****** me? Is this a joke? So I have to individually click on every video and go into the settings and go into video to delete them to get under my quota?

This is poor tactics by Vimeo, I am disappointed...

Treated as spam
March 5, 2018

I tried to move my spiritual teachings videos from Youtube because Youtube is out of integrity; well Google and Alphabet and many of the big tech companies are out of integrity with political censorship. Vimeo sent me an email saying my videos are spam and they blocked all of them. I deleted them and closed the account. Far from spam, they taught spirituality. There was nothing being sold or advertised. Anyway, I'm off to Bit Chute and Steemit. Blockchain is the future platform anyway. I don't think humanity can afford to leave so much power in the hands of corprorations anymore.

I occasionally film a couple of my Rugby clubs video games. Were talking maybe 10 games a year. I film the games in 1080p. Normally a game lasts an hour and a half so the file size always exceeds my 5G weekly plan for $7 a month. So I have to cut the quality way down to 720 and edit the video down to 40minutes. What a joke. I'm tired of this overpriced and under quality service.

Once I complained about collegian whores invading the Vimeo platform and dirty sex comments, I received an email to "upgrade" to pay plans.

I did not, I erased the single personal video of a cow and mountains I uploaded with them and ERASED my account.

I should receive an email confirmation of my account closure.

Nope... 34 minutes later, they sent an email saying that my account was "suspended". What a joke.

Stay away from this shady business. You erase your video, and erase your account, and they do continue to keep your data, which is PLAIN ILLEGAL.

I've been using Vimeo for a long time, all of a sudden I got an email saying they deleted/terminated my account for uploading copyrighted material. Mind you I ask permission for things I used and 98% of the things I used are mine. I emailed them back asking them, which video was it? What was copyrighted? And they literally copied and pasted what they said to me in the previous email that told me I'm deleted, and at the end of the email they give a smart bottom remark saying basically to upload my videos else where. Disgusting. I got tired of their automative, fake responses, they don't care so I just blocked them from my email.
They do not care. They give no warning, no strikes, they don't care if you lose all of your videos.

And you can't upload HD videos, you have to pay for that. You can't upload long videos, you have to pay for that. And if you don't keep up your payments, I heard they delete your accounts. Vimeo is a complete mess and scam. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS SITE! IT IS AWFUL! I WISH I COULD GIVE IT A NEGATIVE 100!

This is to inform the members of this community, majority of the videos can be uploaded publicly despite of following the rules and regulation. I tried to get in touch with the customer support team, but there was no way.

Then I found all the negative reviews but still did not pay attention but just to alert all the user, that this service is going to waste your time and it is nothing but a big bunch of crap.

I am not expecting any response but still if there is anyone who can let me know about the issue, would love to hear.

I had to use vimeo in order to submit a documentary I made for a film contest. Seconds after I typed in my information to create a new account, I was greeted by a typical "select-you-payment-plan" page. However, all was not as it seemed. The selection for the free basic plan, labeled, "continue with basic" was blocked out and I was unable to select it. After searching the website for several minutes, not wanting to select a monthly payment option for a one-time upload, I finally found a small, blue link in the top righthand corner labeled, "Continue". This was my first red flag, since never before had I encountered a website where the free trial was made so difficult to find. I thought to myself, "okayyy..." before preceding. But my troubles had only begun! When I tried to upload my video, I was told the file was too big because it was over 5MB. This was my second red flag, since just about all professionally made videos I've come across in my film class and created myself (Finalcut Pro, Premire, ect.) have all exceeded 5MB. Irritated significantly at this point but wanting to enter the contest, I decided to select a payment plan. Since I would only be using the site once, (not to mention I'm a sophomore in college, so I don't have much money to begin with) I was not thrilled about having to pay to upload my video, but the site said the "Pro-option" (The next level from basic) was only $7 a month. Thinking to myself, "Well, seven dollars isn't much, so I'll just pay it once and cancel it later.) As Sherlock would say, "Wrong!" Not only did it turn out I would be paying $84 instead of $7, but when I went to cancel the payment plan since $84 is waaaay too much money for me to spend on a one-time use program with a college budget, but there was no contact information on their website, (I had to use google to find out their email) and absolutely no way to contact them by phone at all! I ended up having to call the bank to get things straightened around, since it would have taken far too long to get an email back from Vimeo to get a full $84 refund. In conclusion, I ended up turing in the video on a different site, and will never again use vimeo! Two middle fingers up to them is my review!

Load of Crap
December 11, 2017

Uploading a video was painfully slow, then it uploaded three times for no reason and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to delete the videos. If you choose one, the option to delete disappears, if you try to delete 2 at a time you have to UPGRADE YOUR ACCOUNT. To delete a video. It was confusing, slow and infuriating.

For a video hosting company, it is curious why the playback speeds are historically and notoriously slow. I have a video production company, and have used vimeo for years now. Our teams often spend more time waiting for videos to buffer and playback than we do watching the videos. This is the Vimeo reputation. Try another hosting provider!

I think Vimeo hasn't enough tools for videos. There are a lot of video hosting platforms offering marketing video annotations, player customizations and analytics. However, Vimeo works great for sharing high quality videos.
