We used A Plus Reliable Roofing to replace our roof/gutters and repair our chimney. Our roof was in bad shape, and we received a fair estimate. We found Nick to be both personable and honest. We were so pleased with their work that we also had them side the front of our home and install a new front door. We couldn't be more pleased with how everything came out. We had a decorative wagon that broke, and Nick surprised us by fixing it... very thoughtful. We highly recommend this company and will use them again for future projects.
The owner Jason came to out house looked at the job agreed on a price. Later we even increased the size of the job. He stopped taking our calls and E-Mails (said he was out of town for a week), It, s now been three refused many calls and E-Mails. Please don. T even consider this company. It, s the worst he has held up my project
I have to say this is the most disappointing correspondence from Thumbtack. Your service went from tolerable to incredibly expensive. As a freelancer to have to pay simply to have a discussion is quite defeating. If I have to pay $34 every time a potential client speaks with me, I will not survive. The same $34 I just referenced would have cost me $13 just a few months ago before you switched to this new billing system you have devised. There is a difference between charging for the value provided versus charging for mere correspondencewhich may or may not lead anywhere.
And in this case, for what I had reported having someone reach out three weeks after the original bid was made, to have taken money from my account caused an overdraft, so the $34 bid cost me $69, so thanks for costing me too much money to run my business.
I understand that your service is a valuable go-between in connecting me with potential clients and a better business and I value and appreciate that and I would gladly pay for the business I can land. But to have to pay such a premium to have time-wasters and tire kickers' is something that I refuse to do.
I do hope you will consider reverting to the previous model of paying a set amount for bids OR taking a commission when the job is hired.
I will use other services and exclude Thumbtack from my desired service providers.
I was scammed out of $180 for under priced leads that lead to nothing and Thumbtack refused to refund anything.
$#*! Thumbtack.
Their new policy completely changed the business model as to how you as a professional get and pay for leads.
They hit my debit card four times this month for over $400.00 and out of 4 I didn't have a valid lead.
On August 18th of this year. A group of 14 ladies had the pleasure, of booking a day trip, with Events by Tashielallc.com.The Hostess made out day, very special, We received wonderful ginger massage, that made you feel, like a new woman. We relaxed in the hot tub, and bake in the sauna. A few ladies enjoyed the pool. We enjoyed a lovely lunch, and had fun at the Casino. Our wonderful hostess Tashiela, gave each ladies a gift, with pampering things in them. We have already booked out next trip in October. Can't wait. We have 20 or more ladies going this time.
Not fond of Thumbtack's new policy of charging blind charges on quotes sent without having the chance of evaluating the clients' budget first. They have the option of charging fees that are not commensurate to the projected budget, but a fluctuating price based on their own preference. I thought you would only be charged if the client contacts you... not! I have been charge of merely sending a non-responsive quote as well. A client called me a month ago and was charged for the contact at the time. The client answered to my response a month later and was charged again at triple the original price.
You will get leads from TT. There is no doubt about it. HOWEVER! They get to decide how much they want to charge you for a lead which is unfair. If the customer responds to your bid, you are automatically charged no matter if you get the job or not. I HATE thumbtack! They do not offer refunds if you get a flaky customer. Then they encourage you to respond to all of your requests and if a customer says "No thank you" BOOM! You're charged for that lead. TT sucks.
From good to worst lead generators.
Thumbtack struggled to advertise on CNN and other known TV Station. In other to be able to compete with other lead company, they have to change their lead pricing and makes it so bad that, a project such as " I need a TV installation" will be sent to at least 15 Pros. Is TV installation a rocket science?
The fact and truth is that, they needed to compete and grow their business via adverts but at the detriment of their Pros.
Yet, with their bad and greedy services, they are still looking for more Pros and wanted Pros to refer another pro to get free credit. A reasonable Pro should not in any way refer Pros to thumbtack. It is a business killer.
Just less than 2 years with thumbtack we have spent most of our profit from other businesses on their shady baits.
Very Inconsistent and hidden pricing.
Please Pro. Do Not Waste your Money! Do not refer pro.
Money Hunger!
I signed up for thumbtack to promote my business and reach more customers. That was a mistake. Thumbtack charged me inconsistent fees for the job contacts, including leads that contained false information from the customer. Thumbtack posts no customer service contact information on their app, you have to google them to find a support phone number. Any business that doesn't provide support numbers to its clients is clearly not user friendly. I was told that the service fees are based on how much work thumbtack thinks that I'm going to do on the job, and are not based on my job cost estimate. Thumbtack charged me a fee of $9 on a $600 quote, and $15 on a $200 quote.
Thumbtack charges you once a customer contacts you, whether you take the job or not. This is just a bad service overall, definitely not worth the arbitrary fees that thumbtack charges you.
If there was a set fee schedule, a user friendly contact method between pro and customer, a better payment method, and an easy way to actually contact thumbtack customer service, it could be a decent company.
Unfortunately, thumbtack seems more interested in taking a cut of our profits than actually making their system better.
I deactivated my account and will stick with the advertisers that have been bringing me continued business at reasonable rates
Have to agree with the majority of contributors here... When you sign up and look at the number of "leads" sent to you on your cellphone doesn't seem possible that one vendor can generate so much legitimate work... Anyone reasonably intelligent would doubt that there's tons of jobs coming in everyday just for the taking... because there aren't... lol. There might be a few real jobs there but the rest...
I got a lead for a wedding and at the time thought i was the only that would be responding (0 pros contacted) first mistake...
The supposed wedding... Nadine Kh^%$$... was supposed to be 5 days later... Wow... most important date in most people's lives and this one is booking a photographer in the middle of August 5 days before... the date was set in the request according... a Saturday in August...
I get a "response" later --" What is your availability? " Ok... And what is that supposed to mean? They mean when am I available to shoot? So that they can get married according to my schedule? Or when am i available to chat? But they dont' specify that at all..."What is my availability" ----four words from someone who is supposedly getting married in less than a week... For this garbage I got charged $32... I sent a message asking to clarify..."What do you mean... availability to chat? Availability to shoot? Availability for what? No response... Waited another day asked if they're still looking - no response...
There are legit leads and there is pure garbage... Phony leads...
They tell me to keep on them... keep messaging "them". I said listen... haha... I wasn't born yesterday...
Use at your own peril and watch your pennies...
I believe that some folks might actually make some money on Ttack... depending on the area of expertise AND number of reviews... Some folks might have 70 -200 reviews... because they got on when the company was new... good... If you dont have a ton of reviews - good luck getting anything... You're just throwing your money away... Maybe after 10 years and paying a lot of fees that never pay off you might get some reviews... But during that time you'll be losing money unless you're real lucky...
Watch your back...
I worked with Thumbtack for 4 years and was hired more than 400 times with a 4.9 rating out of 5 on 200+ reviews so I know this company very well. One of their poor practices has always been making dramatic changes to their systems without any advanced notice to their network of professionals. Their recent system modification that they call Instant Match allows 10-20 responses to each opportunity is simply a money grab. To make matters worse, they cannot solve even the most simple issue with their system performance. I went from receiving 50-90 opportunities for resume writing to 0 in one week. They claim to care but I find their explanations about this catastrophic drop in business absolutely worthless.
For resume and career coaches out there I would suggest you look at LinkedIn Profinder which limits responses to 5 professionals and provides support that Thumbtack used to in the early years.
In the past 6 months Thumbtack has lied about their prices, their distance to customers, their customer identities and the professionals.
All they care about is money. It is a rip off!
Do not use Thumbtack!
Thumbtack use to ge great got work at a fair price. Now there scamming
Pros to cover customer work. Lead goes to as many pros as they can. Then
If customer responds your charge whatever they wanna charge you. Its to
Late if contacted your charged. Prices are hidden and you have no clue
What the fee is til your charged. Shady and dishonest service and they
Need put out of business. If you decided to use thumbtack as a pro after
Reading this, well you deserved to be screwed. If your customer using
It after reading this knowing the pros are being screwed your just as
Bad as thumbtack. Use google maps and look up your working needing done
And pros have reviews and can be found there.
This company has gone done hill, as you will see by the other reviews, they once had something great going, and now it's gone.
Unlicensed contractors marketing as professionals
People leaving false reviews on pro pages in order to hurt their business, some of these people with no actually interaction with the company.
Thumbtack does nothing about it.
Prices have doubled and have become hard for pros to afford, so expect to pay more for service and get less of a result when high someone from this site.
Do not use thumbtack! They use your legal name/information without permission and then when you complain about it on their contact page, they hang up on you! Definitely a BREACH OF PRIVACY. Also, you'll pay $10 or more on every quote that someone contacts you on even if they don't choose you! Then thumbtack blames you if you don't make the sale. Their app is horrible and they try to strongarm you into choices you don't want! Don't use thumbtack!
Everyone I have hired on thumbtack has been great, and I've needed a lot of different services. However, I used to be a pro, and I still have money sitting in my account that I haven't been able to use. Initially, the site got me a lot of clients, but they chose to ban the service I was offering. Since I've wasted close to $20 on this, I can only give 4 stars. I would have definitely ended up spending more money on the site if they didn't make this weird change.
I put off turning on Instant Match until just recently since Thumbtack CONTINUED to bombard me with emails and PHONE CALLS about using the service. The first two weeks of using I averaged about 250 quotes sent on my behalf using the instant match feature. I turned it off for a long weekend, as I try to "unplug" every once in a while. When I turned the feature back on the following week, I was surprised that I hadn't gotten any responses after a few days. To my shock and surprise - only SEVEN quotes had been sent for me in FOUR days. I had 250 quotes sent the previous week and, in total last week, i had 20!
I have called, emailed, and left feedback to thumbtack resulting in thumbtack informing me that my profile (which was 99% complete) was not fully completed and that's why I wasn't receiving as many matches. So I fixed that. ALL questions are answered, added more photos, had the recommended amount of reviews -- i even broadened the scope of acceptable clients. AND NOTHING. No change.
They continue to say that it is something that I can fix, but refuse to give me any clear answers as to what has changed over the past 14 days, and how the algorithm now works. I am left in the dark. The most specific thing I was told was that more hires and more reviews could help me seem to be a "better fit" via the algorithm, but tell me -- HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET HIRED IF I CAN'T GET MATCHED TO ANY CLIENTS? This is all besides their recent pricing structure change, terrible bugs in the app, and terribly unhelpful customer service.
I started using thumbtack a few years back and although most of the leads were crap there was still a few that were ok and it was reasonably priced, Now however thumbtack is using the same business model as Homeadvisor another rip off lead service but that's for another review! Since thumbtack has changed their business model they have become very expensive and their leads have gotten even worse, I ead some contractor reviews and they all said the same thing phony leads! In the last week I paid $ 300.00 for (4) leads none of them a solid lead, with thumbtacks new business model they say they only charge for a lead if a customer contacts you so what I got for $300.00 (4) leads at $75.00 each was hi thank you for your interest that's it! So after reading the contractors reviews claiming that thumbtack subits phony leads I decided to get on their website and put in a work request yes a phony one and guess what in a matter of minutes I received and email on my business email saying that Joe is requesting lighting installation HMMM when I confronted thumbtack about their phony leads they said oh there is no way there are any phony leads, then I told them really I just created a phony lead yesterday and in a matter of minutes they sent the lead to my business email the response I got from them was you shouldn't do that and we can cancel you as a pro, well I just laughed and said that's fine by me because I am not going to pay for phony leads anymore :) !
This site really just sucks. 1st of all is so fake. There are way too many leads everyday but doubt they are even real since 90% of the time they just expire and never contact back. The very few leads they get that might be real are of very low quality. Half of the time they are just searching but are not even serious. When you get contacted from 1 client who can just be asking you a simple question tou get charge $13! You can basically be chatting a few times back and forth wanting to win on a client and by the time you possibly get the client you already spent the service amount on thumbtack. Totalyy a rip off and a piece of crap
Answer: Thumbtack does not generate fake requests. When our professionals come to Thumbtack to meet new customers, we know how important it is to receive requests that can help them expand their clientele. We have a lot of customers that come to Thumbtack and hire professionals to help them complete their personal projects. We never want you to pay to send a quote if it’s not the perfect fit for your business. This is why you can view the details of each request before you send a quote and introduce yourself to the customer. James - I’m so sorry that the concerns you’ve brought to our attention haven’t been responded to in an appropriate amount of time, this is never our intention. It's important to us to obsess about answering our customers and professionals questions and concerns within a timely manner. We are a real company that can always be improving. You can read more about our company in reputable sources such as Forbes and the New York Times. If anyone has specific concerns about certain requests you’re receiving, we’d be happy to review them and see how we can help. Feel free to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we have an amazing support team that is just waiting to talk to you.
Answer: Hi Kay, I’d be happy to answer your questions. When we initially started Thumbtack in 2009, we tried multiple business models. This included a commission based model, but there were some concerns. When professionals didn’t pay for each quote they sent out, there was nothing to stop pros from quoting as much as possible, regardless of if they were the right fit for the job. Paying for each quote encourages better quality quotes and creates a much better experience for customers. Like you mentioned, it’s important for us to get customers to try our site and continue to hire professionals. In the end, pros are paying to promote and advertise themselves to customers that are already actively looking for that particular service. S. G has an amazing point, and Thumbtack is a great introduction site. There’s a lot of potential to expand your clientele, but sometimes it takes some tweaking to your profile and quotes to increase your response rate. The goal is to create a connection through your profile and quote message, and we’re here to help you do this. It’s kind of like sending the customer a virtual portfolio of your experience, achievements, and reviews. I do want to clarify that Thumbtack does not create fake requests, and it goes against everything we value as a company. While Thumbtack may not be the perfect fit for every business, we strongly believe that we can help connect businesses with new customers and foster growth. If you’d like to give us a call at (800) 343-1710, we’d love to give you more personalized help or answer any other concerns you may have.
Answer: We love to see that you’re interested in joining Thumbtack, Grace! Your party planning business sounds like it will be a blast. When it comes to having a license, it's up to each professional to determine what licenses are necessary and follow their local, state and federal laws. I recommend checking with your state to see if a business license is needed for your service. Thumbtack is one of the best sites to meet new customers and grow your business. Robert S. Gave a really good explanation of how we work. You can sign up and receive requests for free, and you only pay us when you send the customer a quote. Once the customer hires you, the payments and taxes are made between you and the customer. This is a great way to connect with the customer and build an extensive referral network. We wish you the best of luck with growing your business. Have an amazing day!
Answer: The reason you had a lull in leads we because thumbtack had a manual action penalty levied against them. If you are not sure what that is you should google search it. The letter you received from Thumbtack regarding this was (as usual) not fully truthful. The letter does not detail the slimy tactics thumbtack used ti enhance google rankings in organic search returns. Do yourself a favor and search this phrase "thumbtack manual action penalty"
Answer: With our recent changes, you're only charged when a customer responds to your quote with interest in working with you. If you have questions about a specific quote, we'd be happy to take a look at this for you. Just send us a message on Facebook with your email address and the customer's name.
Answer: We want to make sure you get the most out of our site and see a return on the investment you've made with us. Please give us a call at (800) 948-2034 when you have time so we can go over your concerns with us.
