The company's reputation is significantly marred by widespread customer dissatisfaction, particularly concerning its subscription model and customer service. Many users report unauthorized charges, difficulties in canceling subscriptions, and a lack of responsive support, leading to perceptions of deceptive practices. While some customers acknowledge the potential value of the service for avid readers, these positives are overshadowed by frustrations with the platform's functionality and the quality of customer interactions. Overall, the feedback indicates a pressing need for improved communication and more transparent billing practices to restore customer trust.

I unsunscribed to Scribd but still membership money was deducted from my account. So I deleted the account but still the money keeps on deducting every single month. A very cheap malpractice done by Scribd. I have contacted the support and got support ticket #*******. But still no action have been performed yet. As an attorney I will be taking serious action against this SCAM by Scribd. And I will make sure to include each person had suffered losses by this SCAM.
Even you choose a free trial periode they go on to take money from your card without information/Email.
The process of closing the membership is not so simple.

Honestly stay away from this website. I got an Email back in March confirming that my subscription was cancelled. They alread took 9,99€ in April, Mai and June... And Juli is on it's way.
Wrote them an E-Mail, no reply. They say it can take up to a week to reply.
Support says they are in high demand right now... No wonders since they scam everybody.
Support ticket is #*******
Thanks for letting us know, Mario! We apologize for the ongoing charges and the delay! We cannot charge a deleted subscription, and we can confirm your account with the email [email protected]
was canceled back in March and has no recent charges. If you have a more recent charge, you likely have a duplicate account. So I can assist you, I responded on your ticket (#3440119). Get back to me there when you can so I can assist you. Thanks! -EC
I signed up for a trial and then I deleted my account, but after a month they charged me for a subscription and account that doesn't exist. I have written a lot of emails, but without any answer. How is it possible that I pay for something that doesn't exist and I can't log in because this account is deleted?
Thanks for letting us know and we apologize for the delay! We can help escalate your cxase. Let us know your ticket number and we'll get right back to you -EC
They steal your credit card information and charge you. Sammy scamster and the scam scams. Run don't walk from this scamapalooza.

Stay AWAY. They steal your money even if you cancelled your free membership. When I realized that my bank account was charged I Immediately went to cancel the membership. But guess what. I cant! Becuase "Google sign in failed" message in my screen. LOL, you guys are good scammers. Well done! Now wait for my $#*!ing lawsuit cause Im not kidding here. Oh and also, OBVIOUSLY, they dont send you invoice of your consented payments lol
Thank you for bringing this to our attention - we cannot charge someone after they cancel their subscription, so there is likely a duplicate account causing your charges. That said, no worries! We're here to assist you. To get in touch, please use this link: https://scr.bi/assist and one of our agents will help you out. Thanks! -EC
Like everyone else here, I've been scammed by Scribd. I'm ON IT with tracking my free trials and subscription services and set alarms in my calendar so I can avoided cases like this. So when they charge me twice well after I canceled subscription (during my trial period) I started questioning MYSELF. Luckily I had screenshots to prove I canceled before the trial period ended, but doesn't seem to make a difference as they ignore all emails requesting support.
So I'm just writing here in a desperate attempt to get their attention because I feel very uncomfortable knowing they can pull money from my card whenever they want even after I've canceled the auto-pay service. I want that money refunded immediately and I want you to delete my account/ credit card #s and all the data you pulled from me. This is wrong and you guys know it. Cut it out and either shut the site down or create new terms that protect the customer!
My support ticket # is *******.
Thank you!
I have deleted and cancelled any subscription I've had with Scribd But I am still being charged every month!
I have no access to the content as I have no subscription despite the ongoing charges. No customer service number or a human being to talk to
We're so sorry for the ongoing charges and for any trouble you had with contacting our support team. We cannot charge after a subscription is canceled, so something likely went wrong here. To get in touch with our support team, please be sure to use this link: https://scr.bi/assist and one of our agents will help you out ASAP -EC
This is outrageous! I thought cancelling my subscription with SCRIBD was enough not to pay for it anymore. Wrong! On June 10th here there is... another transaction on my credit card $8,99. And, again, I ask for a refund but surprise... no customer service! And I apply again and again, no answer! This is theft! You have no right to take money from me like that! What do I need to do to be heard? Sue you? I WANT MY REFUND!
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We're truly sorry for the delay! Our general support team is encountering a high amount of requests during this time, however, we would be happy to get any messages you have sent over escalated for a reply within 24 hours. Please update this review to include your support ticket number so we can be sure you get the assistance you need -AR
I've just noticed on my monthly transactions a £9.99 taken out by scribd. I've never once heard of this scam company or signed up to them. On further investigations I've noticed there's been 8 payments have been taken. Will be phoning my bank tomorrow to stop these thieves from taking anymore
Hi David, thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear about this experience, however, our support team would be happy to investigate these charges and clarify the reason why you are encountering this. So we can best assist you, please submit a ticket through this link https://scr.bi/assist so your request can be escalated. Thanks! -AR
My wife just got charged the monthly membership starting February. She doesn't know the service. Has never used it. Never ever looked for the app in the play store (History proves that) and we had never logged in from any browser. On top of that there's not a single email from them (First one I've received it's the password reset, because OBVIOUSLY we didn't know the password.
What I DID found is a mail from Slideshare August last year announcing Scribd bought it from LinkedIn.
This bit is in that email: "As of that date, Scribd will manage your SlideShare account and any content you may have on SlideShare, and Scribd's General Terms of Use and Privacy Policy will apply. If you wish to opt out, please close your SlideShare account."
I'm moderately suspicious this is illegal, and I'll absolutely contact the corresponding authorities in my country.
Thank you for informing us! Please know, we cannot charge anyone who does not already have an active account. This means there must be an account somewhere in our system causing your wife's charges. That said, please do not worry! We have a team of experts who can absolutely help you out with this. To get in touch, please use this link: https://scr.bi/assist and one of our agents will assist you ASAP -EC
I canceled Scribd 3 times but they kept billing me anyway. So I called CitiBank and they said all I could do is cancel my credit card and get a new one. So I did that and Scribd still managed to bill me again. Now I have to get a new card CitiBank will block them but it will take a week to do that and get a new card. Save your money, get online with your library, get a card, download Libby, and you can borrow thousands of books free.
Hi Steve- Please submit a ticket through this link https://scr.bi/assist so your request is escalated straight to my inbox. We can assist you with this. Thanks! -RW
I got charged even after requesting a refund and canceling my service.
Ticket Number: *******
I don't mind paying but you guy's don't have the books I want and I want a refund having never used my subscription.
Please help :( It seems like everyone is going to blame you guy's if you don't respond sooner.
Thank you for providing your ticket number and we apologize for the delay! While we’re excited that the Scribd community is growing as rapidly as it is, we’ve admittedly not been able to reply as quickly as we’d like to. We're working to improve this moving forward and, in the meantime, I'm more than happy to help in any way I can.
That said, we located your ticket, refunded your recent charge, canceled your account, and responded to your email. Please allow 3-5 business days for the amount to return and we will not attempt to charge you again. If you have additional concerns, please follow up with me on that email and I'll get back to you directly ASAP. Otherwise, thank you so much for your time, and have a good day! -EC
I signed up for a free trial and canceled it before it ended. And I just noticed that I am being charged every month and I do not know how to stop it, because my scribd account clearly states that my memebership is not active. After seeing many similar comments in this site it looks to me like scribd is clearly a SCAM!
Hello Guillermo,
We sincerely apologize for any frustration, but since we can't charge canceled accounts, it's more than likely there is a duplicate account with another email or perhaps a Facebook profile. As such, please send us a message here: https://scr.bi/assist, and update your comment with your ticket number, and we will help with a refund. Thank you! -LH
I have been charged the monthly subscription for almost a year, even though I do not have any accounts. I have deleted my account many months ago, following step by step detailed in the directions. When I try to login, the login screen displays that the account was deleted. Yet I am still being charged monthly?
Additionally, there are no phone numbers or emails regarding customer service present on the Scribd website, making it difficult to reach out. The company recognizes these complaints (of being charged), yet completely disregards them by not having any form of direct customer service.
Reading the previous reviews, it concerns me how many people have not received the proper help to get their money back. This "ticket" system that verifies profiles does not work, as many people have proclaimed they do not have an account anymore (similar to my scenario). Through my bank app, I found a number related to the company; four-one-five, two-three-three, six-two-three-zero (this website censors phone numbers, thus why I typed it out). I will call them ASAP and see if it can help.
Scribd is a complete scam. Do not sign up for this app whatsoever. Reading through the previous reviews, I know I am not the only being fraudulently charged. I have filed a refund through my bank and will file a chargeback. To the many that are in the same situation, FILE A CHARGEBACK. Unlike a refund, a chargeback can negatively affect a company/business. The amount of reviews I've read of people being charged and not getting their money back is ridiculous! Give me and other people their money back!
Hi there, Hansol - Thank you for your feedback and we're sorry for the experience here. According to a support ticket you have with us, you are in current communication with our support staff regarding your account. You will be receiving a reply back within 24 hours. In the meantime, please direct any further questions back to your support ticket so that we may best assist you. Thanks! -AR
They are cunning. It would take you three steps to cancel subscription. In each steps you have to scroll at the bottom of page and click continue cancellation. It's shrewdly designed to make you fell you I've canceled the subscription but it continued. I almos paid for 9 months. My mistake that I was not checking the credit card statement.
Hi Amrendra, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We're very sorry for any confusion or frustration you've come across when canceling your subscription with us. In our terms, we state that you may go through the cancellation process on your own through your account settings after logging into the site or the app. You may also initiate the cancellation of a subscription by sending an email to [email protected] or submitting a cancellation request through the Scribd Support website. Unless you cancel your subscription prior to the end of your free trial, we (or our third-party payment processor) will begin charging your payment method on a recurring basis for the subscription fee (plus any applicable taxes and other charges) until you cancel your subscription.
You’ll know that your account has been successfully canceled when you see the following message displayed: "Successfully canceled your membership. This may take a few seconds to take effect." Also, we'll also send you a confirmation email to the email address registered to your Scribd account that the subscription was canceled. If you have not received a confirmation email or message, it is not guaranteed that your subscription has been canceled. You can learn more about our cancellation process by visiting our public article here: https://bit.ly/3c1bw7H
If you need further assistance from our team or have any questions, you can visit https://bit.ly/31b2Ybi and select “I need help!” and you will be directed to a relevant Help Center article and find the option to connect with one of our support specialists for assistance via email. Thank you! -AR
I must have signed up for a free trial over a year ago. So that would be on me even though I don't recall it.
But what is criminal is charging people without ANY correspondence! I didn't know I had an account, if I did I could have used it or cancelled it. But the fact is I didn't know, they didn't send any email about this account, and charged me for over a year without a receipt to know it was going on.
As a neurodivergent person who has serious issues with memory, I rely on correspondence and communication between companies and people I deal with. Scribd has just been cutting my purse strings for over a year, stealing from me from my point of view. I didn't know this account existed. Didn't use it a single time during the 15mo I was charged.
You've taken advantage of me, stolen money I need for medical purposes, and offered no service to me as I've been completely unaware of this site during the entire billing period.
Yes, the world is made for neurotypical people and nobody gives a $#*! about the disabled, I should have noticed my transactions earlier. And this is my general responsibility in the world we live in, but my neurology doesn't lead me to checking transactions often as I rarely use the card on purpose, and have never had a subscription to anything charged to my card like this before. So it was entirely new to have a recurring cost lurking in my transactions. Again, without any email receipts or notifications about the service, new offerings. What kind of business doesn't contact its own members!
Yes, I bear some responsibility. But your underhanded business practice seems by design. I'm shocked. I'll be reporting to my ombudsman, the better business bureau, and using my autistic powers to let every forum, rating and review site know what kind of shady hidden business you run. I will track my work in an excel I've opened and if I ever hear back I can notify these other sites, reviews and persons with how you respond to being called out on bad business practice.
No receipts!?! This will now consume my day as I can't stop myself from beating myself up internally when these kinds of things happen. I hope you got into business to cause distress, because if so you're doing great.

Hello,
I was charged twice for scribd. I NEVER made an account and was charged twice for $10.81 on 03/22 and 04/22. I need a refund for $21.62 ASAP. This is absolute disgrace from your company to take away the money from hard-working people. THIEVES!
We have a dedicated support team who can assist you further with this. We'll be happy to work with you in locating these charges, as well as clarifying the situation. Please get in touch with us through this link here https://scr.bi/assist so we can help. -AR
An amount of $9.44+$0.45(tax) was being debited from my accnt by scribd using my card without my consent. I submitted a request to refund my money but i am not getting any response from scribd. Please do give me my money back.
I have had an account for almost a year. My daughters signed up last week. Now my account and both my daughters accounts have been deleted with no reason why. When we try to log in it says no account found with that email or username. It's bad enough that their definition of "unlimited" doesn't match the dictionary definition but I became used to that. This is frustrating especially since the last time I reached out to customer support, it took them 3 weeks to respond and I had to reach out multiple times before they did.
We're so sorry for any frustration, but we want to help! If you've submitted a ticket already, can we have the ticket number please? If not, please submit one here: https://scr.bi/assist, reply with your ticket number, and we'll investigate this issue for you. Thanks- LH
