Our company provides SafetyWing insurance coverage, and while the policy itself looks good on paper, my actual claims experience has been very frustrating and inconsistent.
Before my surgery, I submitted a pre-approval request that included the estimated cost and the procedure details. It was approved under the policy's 100% surgery coverage. After the operation, I submitted all the required documents on **October 10**, amounting to around **USD $6,000**, but the claim still hasn't been fully approved. Communication has been slow, often taking about a week between responses, and each follow-up seems to introduce new document requests even though everything was already submitted.
On **October 29**, my doctor prescribed a knee brace related to the same surgery. I submitted another claim (around **$160**) with a valid manual receipt the same doctor, same handwriting and format as a previous claim they already approved for a smaller amount (~$15). This time, they first asked for proof of payment, even though the receipt clearly had "Cash Sales" checked, which in the Philippines means it was paid on the spot. I still went the extra mile and provided a GCash transaction screenshot to prove payment. Now they've come back again asking for a "clearer copy" of the same receipt, claiming the handwriting isn't legible even though it is.
This back-and-forth shows clear inconsistency and makes it feel like they simply don't want to honor what's written in their own policy. It's exhausting to keep explaining the same thing for a valid claim that's clearly covered. It looks like they want to give you more and more tasks until and would push you to give up. They are not thinking about the situation of the one who is submitting a claim, especially when I have just undergone surgery.
I'm from the **Philippines**, where medical care is very expensive and government support is limited. That's why I proceeded with the surgery, trusting that SafetyWing would provide financial protection. Unfortunately, my experience has been extremely disappointing — the process for high-value claims seems unnecessarily difficult and slow.
I hope SafetyWing takes this feedback seriously and improves how they handle claims, especially for clients in countries like the Philippines who rely on their policies for real medical needs. Customers deserve fair, consistent, and timely claim resolutions not weeks of waiting, repeated document requests, and added stress during recovery. :(
