I had to close my bank account so they would stop charging $39.95 per month. There is no such thing as free with this company. Don't go there!
Rocket lawyer will tell you it is free, but after a period they start charging your account $39.95 per month. If they were legit then you would most likely here from them via email with info or updates on a regular basis. You will not, they are a scam outfit do not use them.
Update: after seeing my review Rocket Lawyer refunded a couple of months of fees they charged me and are no longer charging my account.
It's my fault for being lax in reading my monthly statements and ended up being charged $160.00 for what ends up being one document. I am sure there was little square I didn''t check or something easily slipped in on the unsuspecting that authorized it. That being said I believe that is what they count on. Start a monthly billing and see how many payments they collect before the unsuspecting becomes aware.
This site is a scam. Period. I usually don't write reviews but it was so awful that I felt compelled. I wasted hours and hours of my time creating a legal document that I thought I would be able to send electronically for signatures and the recipients were never able to access it. Then when I tried to access it again I was locked out and have not been able to access it since. I am so upset that I wasted so much time to create a document that I cannot even use! The people at Rocket Lawyer should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.
I submitted my credit card for one week free service. They supposedly would charge my account $39.95 after 7 days unless I cancelled before the 7 days. Low and behold... my bank card was charged $39.95 20 minutes after the transaction was completed. I was unable to get the document edited so I was not even able to use their services.
When I called the service rep to complain and request a refund I asked him how this happened? He said it must have been a computer glitch. Glitch... my hiney! They have it set up that way. It makes me mad thinking about the people who get charged like this and probably don't realize it. If you do catch this so called "error" they will refund your money. It makes me sick how they are intentionally ripping people off.
I will tell any and everybody I know not to deal with these SCAM artists.
Nice of them to hide that I had to change my free trail status after realizing I had been billed $39 for something I didn't use and didn't suit my needs.
In simple English this is a scam and I will spread the word to the best of my ability about Rocket Lawyer.
I should have realized trusting anything to be upfront that has the word Lawyer in it.
I signed up for Rocket Lawyer and i'm on the free 7 day trial and have not provided my credit card yet. So far I've been able to create 4 contracts without having to pay. I will be purchasing the most basic package because it fits my needs. The verbiage and information on all contracts is great! The problem with the past reviews is that people are not good customers... and they are obviously not computer saavy! Had they read through the offers and understood what was needed (meaning your card is not necessary) they would not be complaining! #Happybusinessowner
A week ago I needed two leases for condos that I'm renting out. Rocket Lawyer advertised free forms so I started making a document. Some other reviewers have complained that they don't ask for your credit card info or tell you you will be automatically signed up for a $39.95 per month program, until after you do your whole document. That is true, and for that I have deducted one star. But if you cancel (downgrade) within the week, they say you are not charged. I didn't find out because after 6 days I went on the site to cancel and they offered to downgrade me to $1 per month. For me it's worth $1 per month to have my leases stored on the site, with the ability to make changes and create new documents. I went to my account and it showed that I was billed $1.
I hate to be skeptical, but with all the bad reviews, I still think there might be a chance that charges might start to appear on my credit card bill. But it's also possible that there are many people who expect too much for free. The site was clear that I would start being charged if I didn't cancel within a week.
So all things considered, I am pleased with the services provided.
UPDATE: I have continued to be charged only $1 per month. I have not used the site since the original two contracts several months ago, but I'm happy to be able to edit those contracts, if need be, and to create new documents for free.
I signed up but guess i didn't see the fine print that the trial is for one week. I got charged 39 for basically creating one NDA. What is more annoying is that while i unknowingly had "premium" subscription for a month i only got one NDA out of it and basically didn't get to use the site much at all. Had i known they would charge me i would not have used their service.
This is not free and they ended up charging my social security 39.99 a month without my permission i cannot get the money back because they say there is not fraud... i did not sign up for a monthly fee, trust me! I was caring for my dying mother and wanted to read a document. I put my card info in even though it said free: i had to cancel my card to get the payments to stop. I called about one charge and found monthly! $120.00 to read a power of attorney document. I could not leave my mother accept when a nurse came in. Horrid way to treat people. Now they are being bought by Google i guess. My word. Computer scamming must be big business. I live on a fixed income and this was a hit for me. Notice they have no contact information. I plan on being more careful. I only use amazon.
Did the contract and put it my information and credit card. Now I am contacting my bank to cancel my credit card. I did a screen shot of everything so I have some profit that my credit card was denied. I hope everything is ok, but this website should be taken down.
I went for the free trial week and put in my credit card but when i try and cancel the trial and downgrade the account no options are given and i am told to call a number, so i try and call the number but the operator says this number dosnt exist. I tried to send them 3 emails but still no answer. Watch out this is just a giant scam.
I used this service one time and will never use it again. For the information they gave I might as well have thrown my money in the trash. Please don't waste your money like I did.
I paid their fee of $300 or so dollars and got a referral to a lawyer who was supposed to give me a special rate. The task was simple, file a couple motions in superior court so I could engage in an aggressive settlement. I ponied up $1,500 for the lawyer to do this which I thought was high for a simple filing. The lawyer then turned around and ASKED FOR MORE MONEY. I demanded my money back, which I got. I complained to Rocket Lawyer, and they referred another attorney, who once again wanted over $1,000 and went so far as to state they do not abide by the "discounted" attorneys fees Rocket Lawyer claims to provide as part of their "service" I had had enough -- I ended up finding a lawyer on Google who did the filings for $400 and then asked for another $200 to handle a legal review of the settlement agreement and execution thereof, a price I thought was more than fair. In the end, I got the job done but at the added cost of $300 and time wasted with Rocket Lawyer.
Bottom line: If you need a lawyer, go to Google and find one directly. Don't waste your time and money with this money grubbing middleman service ad the bogus claims of "discounted lawyer fees"
Rocket lawyer is running a scam!
They advertise free documents, but collect your personal information and credit card data. When you download your "free" document, they charge $39.95 to your credit card and continue to do so every month.
Additionally, based on my experience, the documents provided are very basic and do not cover all the bases that need to be addressed. Even though the documents are suppose to be state specific, I spent several hours modifying and adding information to make sure the document conformed to state code.
It is not worth the expense nor the grief when you find out you have been ripped-off.
Sent a question and was told to find a lawyer. WTF? Not worth the time it took to even set up the account.
Same as everyone else. 'Free' trial required an account setup. Account setup required a credit card. Fine print says that as soon as your 'free' trial ends, you start paying monthly until you cancel. So if you don't proactively cancel, you end up paying until you notice it showing up on your credit card bill.
The quality of the document I got was garbage. I am willing to bet that the majority of their revenue is derived from 'free' trial members who fail to notice the fine print. These paying customers, like me, don't actually use the service. That is, they paying for nothing. It might be legal. But it isn't right. It is a scam.
Scam artists is my term for RocketLawyer. Mom is 96 and I needed a Power of Attorney form. They boast, "We invite anyone to come make one document for free." I did. Then mom started getting charged $39 a month.
The lead-in on the internet said, "100 % Free" and it named the form I wanted. 100 % FREE! I answered all the interview questions and when I got to the end, I had to enter my credit card before I could get my form! Now, I'm no lawyer, but, to me, that's not 100 % free. If that's the definition of "free" to these guys, they must have graduated from MORON lawyer school. You know, I think it's lawyers that give lawyers a bad name.
I had contacted Rocket Lawyer in 2014 regarding landlord rights. I did receive the answer to my questions along with forms that I had printed. The problem is however, that since June of 2015, Rocket Lawyer has been charging me $39.95 each month until now. Shame on me for not catching it sooner. I contacted my bank, who investigated my claim and found that the charge was fraudulent. I'm in the process of filing for the additional months and contacting the MA Attorney Generals office. In my opinion, the credit card number that was charged each month was entered at Rocket Lawyer. I will not use this site again. Should I have the need to inquire or obtain legal advice in the future, I'll try Legal Zoom.
Answer: Sorry, but I would try any other service before Rocket Lawyer. All they will do is take your money and then tell you to go find a lawyer. Waste of time and $$.

Answer: Hi Brit, Thanks for your question. We are a legitimate business; our 7-day free trial does require credit/debit card information, but so long as it's downgraded (cancelled) within the 7 days, there is no billing whatsoever. If it isn't downgraded within that timeframe, then it will convert into the Premium Monthly Plan. You can downgrade your membership online, by phone, chat, or email. Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.
Answer: Hello Randall, Please email us at [email protected] explaining your billing situation and be sure to include the email address that you've signed up with. The Free Trial is free for 7 days, if it's not cancelled within that time frame then it does convert into the Premium Monthly Plan, which is explained at the time of sign up. We hope to hear from you soon.
Answer: Hello Patrick, We're glad to look into this to make sure your membership was downgraded (cancelled). Please send an email to [email protected] including the email address that you've used to sign up with so we can take a look at your account.
Answer: Hi there Maria, Thanks for your question, but unfortunately this is not something that we can answer for you and we greatly apologize for that! You would need to get this answered by an attorney. If you're in a membership with us, you can ask a legal question in the "Ask a Lawyer" tab that we have when you're logged in to your account. If you need assistance locating it or if you'd like help with signing up for a membership, please call us at 877-881-0947 (M-F, 6am-6pm PT).
Answer: Hello Norma, We appreciate your question! Unfortunately I myself am not an attorney, so I am unable to answer your question as to how difficult it will be to file for a divorce on your own. At Rocket Lawyer, we do provide a Divorce Settlement Agreement and a Divorce Worksheet, which can help with this process, but it will not be the only documentation you will need. You may need to obtain documents from your local county clerk's office, I'd recommend giving them a call or visiting them in person. If you're in a membership with Rocket Lawyer, you're more than welcome to get a consultation set up with an attorney to discuss your situation at no extra cost. If you aren't in a membership and would like to find out more about what we have to offer, please feel free to give us a call at 877-881-0947 (M-F, 6am-6pm PT).
