For a long time now their political affiliation has been evident but not until this past few weeks had it been an unsafe place for anyone except, now, anyone of a slightly conservative bent who believes in free speech. Sure, it had potential with a good library of patterns - may one say pretty much a monopoly of online pattern sales which many designers have found to their cost. It also had the capacity for users to log their projects, insert photographs and keep track of their stash. Fortunately, nothing that can't be done better on new, more user friendly platforms. It's interesting that there had been a culling of one star reviews by this host site. Are we to expect that only the prevailing meme will be accepted? I'm not American but as a conservative thinker this was an unsafe site for me.
Please tell me how I am a white supremacist because I support Trump? How? By enforcing the law? By making the border safe, that makes him a racist. Sure.
Imagine if a conservative site did the same thing to Obama supporters... oh wait we wouldn't.
It is a privately owned site that fluffs it's numbers to get ad dollars and they have every right to ban whatever they feel keeps the snowflakes from melting and I have the right to never visit the site again or anyone that supports them. The absolute biggest bullies there could ever be. So glad there will be alternatives that are technically more up to date than this dumpster fire (which is where all my Rav gear is going, bags and T-shirt all garbage).
I love this site for making it easy for me to connect with others and share our love the fiber world available to us. I have discovered many creative designers and yarn providers over the years. I have made friends locally and far away by the friend finder. I love the community I have found there and the database is great for storing my designs and patterns. It's my go-to!
I wasn't aware that by the way I crochet something I am a white supremacist. Where do you get off dictating how I vote. I don't need your website and will no longer use it. So much for all inclusive left. Way to divide every aspect of society.
I quit when you decided I was a white supremisist. Gee I don't even know how to spell it apparently. NOT a good business practice. I don't want politics and crap mixed in with my crafting, my joy. Stop sucking the life out of ppl
While at one point in time ravelry was a great sadly that is no longer the case. The site has been out dated for sometime. It is not easy for newcomers to use. When searching for a pattern I often got results that didn't even match my query. Then ravelry had to go all political and ban one certain group of people because their opinion differs. All this combined just doesn't make for a very good website platform anymore.
I joined in 2013, enjoyed my patterns, barely ever looked at the forums, imagine my surprise when i found out i was a white supremicist, and guilty of hate crimes because i support my president and believe in free speech. This site is simply orwellian, as are their cult like followers.
Beware the site caters to what most would term flakes, fringe, extremes. Usually I just used the pattern link, because in the other areas they preach their nonsense from Wicca- to atheism, etc
The idea is great. The operation is excellent. But the need to exclude people, just because Ravelry REFUSES to understand their position, is nothing short of discrimination and hate. I had very many patterns that I bought and chose for free in my library, but I coudn't stay, knowing that this company is acting in a way that is so devisive. I'll get my patterns elsewhere.
While Ravelry is a great resource for patterns and information concerning knitting and crocheting, the owners have allowed multiple cases of bullying to go on within the site and have not done anything to stop it. If you are Liberal, then you will find it welcoming. If you are Conservative, you will not. While hiding behind a statement of inclusiveness, the owners have allowed their cult-like followers to bully and harass the more conservative people. Even going so far as to take down forums and block any USA related icons. In one such instance, they removed a hat pattern that said "God Is Love" on it and branded it as hate speech.
They recently released a statement that support for President Trump and his administration would not be welcome as they felt that it was support for white supremacy. While they did not say that anyone who supported is a white supremacist, their followers decided that's what it meant and the owners of the site have yet to correct that.
Ravelry has been a fantastic way to improve my skills, connect with others, and organize my projects.
I've been knitting and crocheting almost my entire life. When I was a child or even just a couple of decades ago, I never could've dreamed up such an amazing tool for people who love the fiber arts! All of the patterns, information on yarn, and answers to my questions are there on Ravelry. In addition to that, the best part is the warm and welcoming community of people who also love fiber arts.
Disappointed by the hatefulness and discrimination displayed on this site. What was a wonderful resource for patterns has become nothing more than a place for hate mongering to thrive.
Fabulously designed and properly moderated, this website has everything a crafter could need, except hatred.
I used this site beginning in 2008 to keep track of all of my knitting projects, purchase patterns, research yarns, and store all files of my craft. I did not participate in discussion forums. The Forbes, who own this site, have decided to be inclusive by being uninclusive. If you support our President, they label you as a white supremacist, which I am most definitely not. They allow patterns and talk denigrating our President but none in support of him. They might as well say they are anti-USA and against God. I love the USA and God too much to participate in a site operated by such narrow mindedness.
Ravelry is a huge resource for knitters, crocheters, spinners and weavers. I have been a user since the first few months and have been astonished at how well it has scaled to accommodate millions of users. I am beyond thrilled at the courage the owners have had in fighting back against racism and homophobia to help to create inclusive spaces in the crafting community.
Being a member of this site for years, it provided me with the opportunity to buy and store my patterns and browse the many patterns by designers, some good, some not so good, but there for people to choose. The Forbes, who own this site, have let their political views and now recent guidelines, ruin a good thing. They encourage bullying and name calling of people who they think deserve this treatment because of opposing political views. The Forbes don't know any of these affected people personally, they know nothing about them. Sadly, designers, not all, have followed suit. So if you support this group and their unprofessional attitude, you are a bully too. If you can think for yourself and leave, like so many others who are standing up against this, you will be in the company of true patriots of this country.
I've been a member of Ravelry since 2008. I accidentally stumbled upon it during a quick search, and consider myself lucky to have found it.
With the amazing pattern databases, diverse discussion threads, lots of learning opportunities, my knitting and crocheting skills have flourished.
And some literal Nazis were banned, too. How fricking great is that?
I was a member of Ravelry for over a decade. When it was in dire need of funding to start up I donated; and they did not ask for my race, political views, sexual preference, religion or any of the other alphabet subgroups they support. Casey took my money in a flash without an acknowledgement or a thank you. Now that Casey has made his millions he has decided that a large group of people that supported Ravelry are hateful and should not have an opinion that he does not agree with and should be banned. Yes it is a private company, but their policy on group participation and 'group think' should have been stated in the beginning before I bought patterns and supported the advertisers. How selfish Casey is now that he has his millions to make a decision that negatively impacts the lives and financial well being of designers and advertisers. Designers and advertisers are being boycotted, new web sites are being created to fill this void; and though in their infancy they are thriving. Tyson A. Says that it is the best social media site in the world, but I thought was that Ravelry was a free site for people that knit or crochet, not a social media site for a specific and non-inclusive group of people. Casey boasts that Ravelry has 8 million members, but why every time I sign in to download my patterns (before I am banned) there are less than 1,800 people signed in? Should it not be millions online supporting designers, advertisers and each other as they enjoy their craft? Where are the other 7,800,000 people, or they just bots that were created to falsely inflate the number of members?
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
