Good on Ravelry for doing the right thing when it comes to disavowing hatred and bigotry. In today's world, de-platforming voices that speak hate is an undervalued public service.
While I had other crafting hobbies, I wasn't into crochet before learning about Ravelry from the news. A crafting site that actually cares about justice, equality, and humanity too? Sign me up! I'm so excited for my new hobby and the wonderful caring environment to learn it in at Ravelry!
A wonderful and modern platform with great patterns. I love your blog, too! The photos are show stuff trust looks classy and fun but also doable to beginners. Keep up the good work!
This site is a community full of wonderful, supportive, and inclusive individuals. The pattern selection is amazing and the amount of free content is wonderful! I am incredibly thankful that in this time full of hatred and fear that Ravelry has taken a stand for inclusiveness and love. It may sound counter intuitive, but a tolerant society cannot tolerate intolerance. Go Ravelry!
Ravelry is free, functional, and easy to use. No one else is providing this type of service for yarn-artists, especially not for free. We are lucky to have the service and community they have built.
I am so very glad to have such an open and welcoming community of folks dedicated to keeping the fiber arts alive.
Ravelry has done so much for the fiber arts community by creating a database of patterns and yarns. I love the project page feature where I can keep track of everything that I'm working on. I love that I can see what other people made with a specific yarn. Keep up the great work!
It's all political, and Ravelry has decided to take a clear stand on evil. Good job. I am also a white American, and couldn't be more thrilled about Ravelry's statement.
Also, they're packed full of patterns. Best fiber arts database ever.
You should never have put politics in a crochet group. Sadly you did and apparently lost quite a few people. The sjw's of the world have taken over your group and like a sheep you follow along.
Has been site that's been taken over by the SJW. I am someone who is proud to be white and American and I support President Donald Trump Just like people from other places are proud to be who they are. Too bad I can't discuss my view point or hear others now.
I joined as part of a group of crafters I'm 2011 and or was ok. Visiting recently I was impressed with the search and favoriting features. I especially like the maps of stores near me and the type searches for yarn.
Great site, full of more information than I can make use of, and with very supportive community to provide help, opinions, and fun.
I am offended and disgusted by Ravelry's choice to make it a political platform. The owner could have kept his personal views private and not expressed his opinions in such a divisive, accusatory way. Apparently respect and acceptance were missing from his upbringing. I used to enjoy knitting in public but am starting to hear comments from people who unfortunately associate knitting with Ravelry's negativity. Way to go Ravelry. I guess you've ruined Knitting in Public day. Hopefully the more reputable vendors will offer an alternative outlet for their products so I can feel comfortable purchasing them. I have never participated in any of their blogs and have never considered knitting political. I respect the president of our country whether I agree with him or not. This does not make me a racist nor does it make me an advocate of white supremacy. My religious and political views are private and I am entitled to them without censorship from anyone or their website.
First and foremost, it's a great site for people who knit, crochet, weave and/or spin, but more than that, they offer amazing tools for designers who want to sell patterns and stay in touch with their customers. There is really no other site that does this better, with such fair and affordable fees and advertising options for sellers. I also appreciate that users do not have to pay to get all the robust social media features, which is not always the case for craft-based social media sites.
I am new here and am very impressed by Ravelry. I came here for the politics, but stayed for the patterns. <3
They are bias and very intolerant of views different from their own. Promotes harassment of people that don't think like them.
Sadly the racist us citizens can't understand that they are wrong in their ways. Ravelry takes a stand. In favour for all yarniacs, worldwide, against white supremacy.
Great webside, great founders, great people there and lots of georgeous patterns!
No matter how obscure the fiber art you're learning is, ravelry will have people who know how to do it. The pattern and yarn databases are incredibly helpful and the forums are full of great people.
The original, not possible to duplicate, most useful yarn crafting site. This is first and foremost a site to organize, track, and search for patterns, yarns, and help.
The database programming that drives this site is the best out there for this type of crafting site.
Then to top it off, the people who run this site truly believe in not allowing hateful, harmful speech directed to marginalized groups.
I bought many patterns from Ravelry over the years and wasn't even aware of the forums. I was just interested in the patterns and designers. I'm a knitter and crocheter. As soon as I was called a white supremacist for supporting the President of this country I couldn't support this site any longer. I just want to knit and crochet not talk or even hear politics! The owners of this site don't even know me! How could they even know if I was a white supremacist or not. That's ridiculous and foolish of them. Not a good business model in my opinion. And I'm a Christian. I tolerate and accept all people.
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
