They never said anything about skin color or racism. These people are just mad that they put in a new policy where you cant discuss politics or trump on the site. Its crochet and knitting, not a news outlet.
I absolutely love Ravelry and it's been my main resource for crochet patterns since I taught myself how to 3 years ago.
I was a member for four years. In solidarity to fiber artists everywhere I had to disassociate from Ravelry. Ravelry professes to include ALL but does not practice their own stated policy, Ravelry stereotypes people as "white supremacist" carte blanche. Interestingly, Ravelry even called BIPOC people "white supremacist." Ravelry.com is the penultimate in hypocrisy and duplicity. Basically Ravelry.com practices everything they self profess to stand against.
When any organization calls all people of any single race by a derogatory term and then bans them from speaking or even just because of their race, it is a place to stay away from.
If you're a socialist dem, you'll feel right at home! But for those who are white, stay far far away. You're included IF you say all the right things and lean the right way.
While this site allows political material such as patterns which say things along the lines of F. K Trump (I left the 2 letters out) others may not offer patterns with slogans such as MAGA. I would have no problem if they banned all things political but that is not the case. Additionally they lump all those -slightly more than half the population- who support our President, as being "white supremacists".
This site has been my go-to for patterns and community, yarn products, and wisdom from knityers, crocheyers, and spinners for years. Their recent statement freeing the site from hate speech solidified my love for Ravelry. Thank you for being and for being such fab people!
A political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. Bye bye Ravelry. Knitters have always been conservative.
I've used this site for YEARS, I love the new policy. I see so many people on here writing hate because they obviously have nothing to do with their lives. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEIR VIEWS LEAVE THE SITE AND DONT COME BACK. It is soooooooooooooooooo simple, no one cares if you leave I think it makes the site better
Many of the "positive" reviews use the word Nazi. They claim Ravelry is an inclusive and "for humanity" site. Seriously? Suppressing the 1st amendment and stating if you support our current president you are a white supremacist is inclusive? They still allow vulgar patterns about Trump. Designers laugh about people who have left the site and "whine" about not having access to their patterns. I hope I never bought a pattern from one of these disgusting individuals. I truly hope they reap what they have sown. They are obviously low info type voters who still believe our President called white supremacists "good people" in the Charlottesville lie. Networks spliced and diced that speech to make it sound that way. Don't believe me? Research it. Easy to find. Even Jake Tapper of CNN finally admitted President Trump never said that. He was talking about the people who had shown up to try and save the monument not the haters. Your favorite candidate, Biden, opened his campaign on Twitter with that lie. They are all lying to you now about the immigration situation. They have all been for what Trump admin is for but they lie because they can't give him a win. Do you know that Obama was deporting so many they started calling him "The Deporter-In-Chief?" That the Democrats refused to expand the area at the border where the immigrants are housed in crowded cages? That Obama did the same thing with this situation? That Trump has done more for the black community in just a few years than Obama did in his 8? Question? How can you be pro Islam and pro LGBTQ at the same time? Do you know what they do to gays? Trump has also done things to promote LGBTQ community. You would know this if you weren't so full of hate and did a little research. I could continue with this but it probably won't change anything for the bigots on Ravelry. God forgive them for they know not what they do.
Was a member there for a number of years. Recently labeled as a white supremacist for absolutely no reason. Forbes and their remaining members embody the very hate they claim to protest. Their hate-filled, self-righteous members bully and harass anyone who doesn't embrace their stance, including the very people they claim to "protect." They spew their vile verbiage against businesses and individuals who dare to stand again their censorship, viciously attacking some to the point of sickness. This is a toxic, poisonous web site now. People of good character should stay away!
I joined Ravelry in the very beginning when you still needed an invitation. I enjoyed the forums a lot and met many friends in them that I'm still close to. Even back then there was a lot of garbage on the site and it has only gotten worse as people have become bolder. I knew people then who wouldn't open Ravelry if their kids were in the room because they couldn't predict what kind of nastiness they would see. There is a Lazy, Stupid, and Godless group that is exactly as vile as it sounds and they are proud of it. There is a Rubberneckers group where they make fun of conversations in other groups (no groups were private). The liberals would go into conservative groups and ask an "innocent" question, then their friends would come in and pile on then they flagged our replies as offensive. Those flags were one reason given to us for having our group shut down. Most of the group was banned shortly after when we took our political discussions somewhere else. These days you can post a "$#*! Trump" hat pattern but "God is love" is hate speech. An avatar with Whatsherface holding Trump's severed head is acceptable but Betsy Ross is offensive. I deleted my account months ago but many people I know are deleting theirs now. Seems most of us don't care to be caught under a blanket statement that covers easily half of the country. They claim that being a Trump supporter automatically makes you a white supremacist but a lot of these folks aren't white at all!
If you want a fiber arts community that fosters left wing thinking and demonizes and censors folks on the political right, then this is the place for you! This online community has become a political site. The Ravelry owner has unapologetically banned most expressions of conservative views (under the guise of tolerance and inclusion, no less), equating anyone who would express such views with haters and white supremacists. The owner will allow conservatives to stay as members, but have made it clear they will not be afforded the same privilege of expression as left-leaning members. Go elsewhere if you just want a friendly and welcoming place to share a love of fiber arts. Way too much unnecessary controversy at Ravelry.
I spent 10 years on this site happily purchasing patterns never once thinking about the politics of the designer until the terrible day that it was announced by the founder that if you support or voted for President Trump, you are a white supremacist. But hey, as long as you don't create any pro-Trump patterns, you don't talk about your support for him, and you don't step on the tiny feelings of the truly 'inclusive' thinking folks, you will be allowed to stay. They are hypocrites! Bigots! Un-American! People are leaving in droves. I hope they enjoy their echo chamber populated by virtue signaling automatons. Goodbye Ravelry!
What was once a great site is now filled with hate and bigotry, exactly what they accused their conservative members of. They only keep liberal hate products such as $#*! hard and anti-Trump crap but that's okay. Never again, I would give them a penny of my money!
I was a member for 8 years and I'm one of the people the owners called a white supremacist. They've always been lazy and left learning, but to consider "MAGA" hate speech, but not ACTUAL hate speech, like calling us White Supremacists is just delusional. Their minions don't even know the difference between INclusuon and EXclusion. You can't be INclusive by EXcluding an entire class of citizens! The dumb is astonishing! May their site go down in a rolling $hitball of flames. I can find patterns elsewhere.
Ravelry was my go to for patterns and dreaming of yarns until that Sunday when i logged in and got gut punched, I then found out I was a White Supremacist because I love God, Country and President Trump. You are allowing hate and bigotry towards anyone loving our President and the USA. No longer allowing free speech to anyone you deem white privileged, but you are ran and owned by a white privileged male. Not allowing any knitting showing support for our great country but allowing "$#*!" hats and all things hateful to our great country.
I absolutely love being a member of ravelry with the many designers and patterns as well as all of the forums to share information. Great job
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
