User friendly, instinctive to use, and doesn't tolerate bigots and white supremacy - what's not to love?
Fabulous site. The best site. A site that rejects hate speech can only be a good thing. Those that are complaining they've been seen for what they are - bigots.
One of the worst sites ever. Lots of rude people who often say hateful things if you don't share the same beliefs and opinions on everything. This problem actually goes farther back; but only gotten worse over the years.
They practice double standards and banned people who just simply disagreed with them. Tasteful designs like God is Love hat weren't allowed to have patterns up to sale or for free use but vulgar and obscene patterns with curse words are allowed if they agree with the message, even though it breaks the sites rules. Some groups bully those who are Christians or conservatives even though hate speech is supposed to be banned. Hate speech isn't banned as there is plenty of it towards people they don't like, just different opinions are banned even thought they claim to be inclusive.
It is supposed to be for people who love knitting and crocheting, where they can look for patterns and share their interests with others. Now it just a hardcore Liberal/Political site and it sad to see it come down to that; but not surprising though given their history.
Worst is what they labeled peopled who come from all sorts of backgrounds and never said a hateful word to anyone as White Supremacist because of different political views. That is not only a sweeping generalization; but racist. Half of my family is of Mexican descent and yet we were still called such horrible things just because of we're not Democrats.
Tons of ways to find free and paid patterns, Ravelry is not needed. They are extremely unprofessional and should of just said no politics at all in order for everyone to feel welcomed. Bad business practice to exclude half your members, many who helped the site.
Loads of patterns, forums which are helpful and including and an overall including and accepting environment, a safe spot for anyone!
Ravelry has everything; an amazing database of patterns for knitting, crochet and other fibre arts; a plethora of forums where you can find like-minded people to discuss pretty much anything; hardworking and caring owners, staff and volunteers who do their very best to make sure the site is welcoming, inclusive and safe.
Casey is a gaslighting bigot. He can't handle anyone having a different opinion, so he lies about their character and deletes their account.
Love this website. Have been a member from the get go. Best resource and community on the net for anything fibre related
I can put the type of yarn into the web site and it will pull up patterns that people have used that yarn on or I can pick a pattern and it will tell me if any of my stash would work for it. No other web site I have seen can do that.
This is a place where every word you write is monitored. You are not allowed to use any word that could possibly offend someone, such as "America" for example. Or for heaven's sake do not even mention the word Christian. Anti Semite phrases are allowed though. Photos such as the American flag are prohibited while F someone or something is A-ok. Just so weird. It used to be for knitting content, but no more. It is very sad.
I am not an advocate of anything. I came to knit and get inspired by other knitter. Their statment was so far from being inconclusive that ir shocked me to my core. It promoted division and hate far from what they are preaching about. Left the site never to return.
I thought this site was about sharing patterns and yarnies work but I just found out that it is a political site! Very disappointing that the "boss" has decided to demand everyone agree with him or they aren't welcomed or allowed. In addition the site is asking others to report on "offenders". I wonder if they have to wear brown shirts?
If you thought this was a knitting or crochet site, perhaps even a place for those who spin their own wool- think again. It's a place for those who use the fiber arts to spin controversy and divisiveness. Only those who buy into the current groupthink are allowed a voice. Those guilty of wrongthink are cast out, and disappeared. It's the best of George Orwell, plus knitting needles.
I've been on Ravelry for almost a decade. It's the only resource I use for patterns, finding out about yarn, and getting hints and tips. The forums are great, made even better because they have taken a stand against hate speech.
If you want to start, improve or try new techniques Ravelry is the best place to be.
Yes, they banned vocal support of Trump - for reasons other than what the 1-star reviews state, and they didn't go around capriciously banning users.
Anyway, this site really is the best site for fiber arts out there - by a wide margin. It's a good social media site, and it has a great database that supports a lot of different types of searches. Really, it's remarkable beyond its function for the fiber arts community.
I've been a member of Ravelry since their first year and they have consistently improved over that time. The forum platform is the best hands down it will spoil you for any other forum. The heart of the website, the project and supply database is likewise fantastic. It's user friendly and clean to look at. There isn't anything lacking honestly. If you are a fiber artist/crafter of any type or level you are seriously missing out if you aren't a member of Rav.
The site has morphed from a crafts related to an anti Trump propaganda outlet. If you happen to believe in free speech or real diversity- you are in the wrong place. The site would ban anyone who happen to support Trump, no matter how gently because according to the site's guidelines every single one of 46 millions of people who voted for Trump are white supremacists. It also encourages its users to "report any pro Trump comments or projects". Joseph Stalin would be so proud of the owners. Shameful!
The most comprehensive knit/crochet pattern database on the web. Robust social media component w/ generally helpful and pleasant contributors. Recently had a purge of ignorant bigots and now the site is even better.
I left Ravelry after reading their "No Trump policy".
Just a small section of their bigoted policy...

We are banning support of Donald Trump and his administration on Ravelry.
This includes support in the form of forum posts, projects, patterns, profiles, and all other content. Note that your project data will never be deleted. We will never delete your Ravelry project data for any reason and if a project needs to be removed from the site, we will make sure that you have access to your data. Even if you are permanently banned from Ravelry, you will still be able to access any patterns that you purchased. Also, we will make sure that you receive a copy of your data.
We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy.
The Community Guidelines have been updated with the following language: "Note that support of President Trump, his administration, or individual policies that harm marginalized groups, all constitute hate speech."
Unprofessional, rude and just unacceptable.
There is no place in the world for white supremacy.
Ravelry is the best thing to happen to crafting. Ever. Period.
I have been a member of Ravelry (Rav) since just a few months after the site opened. It is the single best pattern source and data base for knitting and crochet patterns. Over the years it also has developed into a fantastic social media site for fiber arts enthusiasts. As a designer, I love their business model and easy of access for small scale designers like me.
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
