Really don't understand why the reviews are so bad for Provident just on this site.
Elsewhere the reviews are good. I will add mine to that list.
12 purchases over 5 years. No issues. Yes if you pay by check you will wait 5 days before they even put your order in line to be filled. (they tell you this).
Then they have to pick your order which may take three days. (they tell you this) (It never takes three days) and then you have to wait on UPS or USPS or whomever to ship it to you. If your after instant gratification go to your local coin shop.
12 PURCHASES OVER 5 YEARS... NO ISSUES Good Company
Usually no problem with them. But they messed up two orders in a row. First they sent me copper rounds instead of silver and didn't believe me until they checked their video.
Then they sent me underweight and damaged bullion. They want ME to pay for shipping back to them so that they can charge me a 10% restocking fee. WHAT?! Never again. I've had problems with other dealers and THEY made it better. Not Provident. Their mistake is YOUR problem.
Mailed check for $13,000 two weeks ago. Provident claims they never received check but post office has not returned check to me the sender. Odd that price of gold went up after order.
Edit: After three weeks of telling me they never received my check, Provident admitted they had it and shipped my gold. Received my order exactly one month after placing my order. (Mailed check on October 6th, received order November 6th).
Provident is quick to charge my credit card and take my money but then my order sits in "confirmed payment" for 3 day and then "processing" for another 3 days before it finally ships. Provident sells what they don't have in stock so be prepared to wait. Apmex and JM Bullion ship same day or next day every order I've placed.
Purchased 90% Silver coins. While not as pretty as the newly minted coins they are rich in history. Shipping was fast and secure. Definitely worth passing on to the next generation.
I love Provident Metals! They have the lowest prices in the industry and they have Free Shipping which is a big deal to me.
Apparently Provident Metals is making a bad habit out of taking money for a material they don't have in stock without telling people it's not available.
You made a big mistake with me when you told me that you couldn't buy those Egyptian coins after the 30th of November.
They are still available for sale today December 13th 2016. That's false advertising as far as I'm concerned and you will pay for it. I also wasn't notified that a small item over 2 weeks ago that was paid for instantly wasn't in stock.
Only through a series of phone calls and emails about an able to get any response from Provident.
Offering to give me a credit on a card that I no longer use. They paid no attention to that in the email completely overlooked like I was talking to myself.
Go to JM Bullion folks I have no trouble with them ever.
Seriously disappointed, offended

I've ordered both gold and silver products from Provident Metals and have received my bullion with no issues at all. They always have the best prices on the Internet and they ship the product very quickly.
I've ordered 5 different products from Provident, about a 15 orders in all. Every one was delivered within 2 weeks of receiving my payment. I mail them checks, which is cheapest way for me, and they handle very quickly. If the market goes up or down they deliver at agreed price. I once left my check on my desk and forgot to mail when I went out of the country. They sent me a polite email and I called them. The market had gone UP a good bit, but they didn't try to weasel out and let me pay check by phone. I don't understand the negative reviews and can only say it never happened to me.
Placed many orders, never an issue. Best prices I've found online and if you order more than $99 your order ships free.
They are awesome. I've placed many orders thru them and have been very satisfied. No damaged goods so far. As to the waiting time, if you want it sooner pay by credit card. The way I look at it is, I don't plan on selling anytime soon so why worry bout it taking a few weeks. Waiting a few weeks and paying $. 84 per ounce over spot is better that getting right away and paying $5+ dollars over spot. Quitcha Bittcchinn' and keep stacking. Jon
After placing several thousand dollars in orders with them, I had assumed I would be treated with fair customer service. I placed an order for two, 10 Oz. NTR bars that were listed as "New". While the bars I received were in Mint Plastic, the bars were somehow dinged up like crazy. There were even X marks scratched all over the packaging which is usually indicative of a reject product. When I called they treated me poorly, and refused to give me a refund, or even an exchange. The woman seemed like she really didn't care, and kept confusing which product I was even referring to. She even had the nerve to offer me the Buyback price, which would have meant I would take a loss on the item. Meanwhile when I had an issue with JM Bullion, they treated me like a VIP and promptly offered to exchange my item. Give your business to anyone but Provident.
I purchased two silver 45ACP bullets recently. They both were inferior. One had a blemish on the side and the other hadn't been polished. I could still see the machine marks on it. I sent photos in and was told there was nothing wrong with the product I received. They said they would replace them but there would be no guarantee the replacements would be any better. Then they said that If I sent the bullets back they would issue me a credit.
My problem is that I don't trust them. I can't see me returning anything to them for any reason. I honestly believe they might steal them from me and never issue the credit or the replacements.
I do not trust these people and will never spend another dime with them. I suggest you avoid them like the plague.
. 999 purity stamped bars i ordered are turning black in my electroplating solution, indicating the presence of iron- Fe II (aq).
These bars are not even close to pure, and Provident has no interest in refunding me or compensating me for the damages caused by their false claims. So i'm filing suit.
Long-time customer... never had a bad experience. I've tried just about every bullion site out there and Provident is by far the best. Affordable, discrete, fast, good customer service... and free shipping. Customer for life.
I have made 14 purchases from Provident Metals since 9/25/13. I've purchased silver bars of different sizes and a few coins. I have never had a problem with the quality of the silver or the shipping time. By paying with a personal check, I've gotten the best price and Provident will ship free if I buy one of the items that qualify for free shipping. The savings on the shipping is well worth the items I've bought. As for the shipping time -- they clearly state it takes up to 3-4 weeks for processing an order paid for by personal check and I am not in such a big rush to receive my silver. Most of the time I've received my orders in advance of their shipping policies and they also update the status of my orders on my personal account page. As I see it, no matter from whom you purchase, there may be issues from time to time --that's life. I've purchased silver from other companies and had issues with them but things were eventually worked out. Provident, thus far, has been excellent and I will continue to buy from them. When I see people complain about the shipping time I wonder why they are so fussy about "getting their order" RIGHT AWAY. If you're going to behave like an amateur, my advice is to find some place where you can physically go, pay them, and get your order on the spot. Otherwise, when you purchase anything that has to be processed and shipped, etc... have patience... or stop buying altogether. Peace. :)
I had issues with a delayed order. Provident was affiliated with mulligan mint so not clear where their products originate from. Owned by Mormons hence the name Privident. Not 2 sure about this company: questions need to be answered about consustently late orders and money in the currency float.
My first order included copper rounds and bars and nickel rounds. Somewhere around 24 in all. When I received them they had scratches, gouges, and finger prints on them. I put my comments on one of the items and immediately got a call from Robert. He never once offered to replace the items and assured me that they were taking all the necessary precautions to keep the coins from damage and that it must be from the supplier. It's obvious that Provident doesn't care what the conditions of the coins are when they send them out and they surely don't stand behind their products or they would have offered to replace the damaged items. Instead Robert offered me free shipping on my next order and that he would put it on my account and all I had to do is let them know when I made an order. On 8/28/13, I made another order and paid with a credit card as I usually do. I sent an email to them letting them know that I had free shipping. Here comes Robert again. He states that he can not give me free shipping on a credit card order and that I would have to call it in or pay by check. I promptly, before my order was processed, told him to cancel my order. He wrote back and said that if they canceled my order I would have to pay a MARKET LOSS penalty. I will never order anything from this company again. BEWARE! DON'T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY ON THIS COMPANY. They will take you for every cent they can. They have way too many loopholes. Read the MARKET LOSS POLICY very carefully. Once you get a confirmation number you can't cancel it, even though the payment has not been processed. DON'T GET CAUGHT.
I've placed two orders with Provident. I received the first order after more than a month. It's now 3 1/2 weeks since they received payment for the second order, and it hasn't been shipped yet. In both cases, they blamed their slow shipping on delays in receiving product from their suppliers, even though the items ordered were advertised as being in stock when I ordered them, and showed on their website as being in stock when I called to ask why the orders hadn't been shipped.
I won't be doing any more business with Provident.
Great Overall, Low prices, Low shipping & handling cost. Would buy from again
Answer: I heard the same thing. I would not buy from Provident Metals, especially when there are real companies out like APMEX and JM Bullion.
Answer: Not often because Provident Metals has terrible management that don't know how to keep things in stock.
Answer: Ive heard this from so many people at coin shows. Typical for Provident Metals. The management at Provident Metals seem to only care about themselves. They do not value their customers one bit. In this day and age you need to be treating your customers like gold. They definitely don't seem to understand that we can just go straight to a competitor. Provident Metals seems to only cares about what goes in their pockets.
Answer: No, because they have a lot to hide. I would RUN in the opposite direction.
Answer: So true. I've heard this from a lot of people. They keep all the good ones for themselves.
Answer: They sent me several worn-out/slick/wafer-thin US silver quarter-Dollars under the heading of "average circulated" condition. One of the coins was also riddled with "BB" indentations. I photographed the coins and emailed it to Provident; I was subsequently instructed to repackage the affected coins (at my expense) and send them back for replacement. At this point, only time will tell if Provident follows-through with their agreement to exchange the worn-out coins.
